Note 4 getting very very hot and rubbish battery life - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

owning a qualcom snapdragon 805 note 4 for sometime.. The battery drains out out to less than 10% in 5-7 hrs of normal usage .
The phone becomes very very hot, rather untouchably hot if i use the camera or even play a game for as little as 30-mins to 1 hr....
whats going on.. is anybody else facing the same problem
is the claim of note 4 battery to be more than a day and half all humbug or is it my phone giving my problem...
solutions solicited pls......

Hi Paul,
I think your phone is the problem, I have the same phone and an amazing battery life. I think either you have a faulty app installed or the phone itself has a problem.
Are you running stock, did you update to the latest version? Did you install betterbatterystats to check if an app is draining your phone?

you need to update your phone...battery life was an issue before update but not now..and yes if you are paying games for an hour or so any phone will get hot..it ain't average use that is heavy use which will last your battery for around 9 hours..but average use easily gets you through day

I play gangstar Vegas and need for speed 8 and everything it's OK with battery it's cool. ...

You may just have a trouble application. In my case it was Lookout.

I've hat the same issues. At a samsung service center they did a boardswap and everything is fine now.

All.
What do u consider as hot device?
Can u share your temps during :
1) Internet browsing
2) Tapatalk
3) Watching movies
4) Playing games
Thx

Can you show us a screenshot of your battery graph?

Check battery usage. If you see an process called "index service"
Then its your sd card. Actually its a chronic problem of samsung phones.. Stop that service and see how it goes

[Q] HELP in Extending Xperia Play Battery Usage

problem solved by gingerbread 2.3.3 update
The problem is that gaming takes a lot of battery power. I haven't attempted to game for 6 or 7 hours straight but generally speaking, the Play has the best battery of all the handsets I've played with in a really long time. I jumped from a Captivate to the Play and even with little use, the only way I would get through a day is by charging while at work. No problem anymore with the Play, which always has way more charge than I expect to see when I check out my battery life. On the Captivate, you'd be lucky to get 3 or 4 hours of non-stop gaming before it was dead. My first charge, I went 36 hours on my Play with quite a lot of gaming (though not all in one sitting and probably not as concentrated as you). I can hit the promised 5 hours of straight gaming.
I've rooted and removed a few small apps here and there, nothing too huge. I don't bother with attempting to save battery life by going GSM only or just using a headset. Not sure what else you can do. Maybe your apps are more battery-hungry than mine.
Well I havnt modden not even rooted my play but I get 24 hrs or more easily with 1-2 hours gaming and moderate web browsing

One thing I ha e noticed is if you are in a poor signal area and the phone is constantly searching for signal it will drain the battery quite fast.... just a tip to check out... I've solved my battery issues by turning the phone off when inside the office as after 2 hours of no use with no data or wireless connections the phone would lose 20% battery

I came from the iPone 3GS to the Play and the iphone had great battery life for movies, music and web. But when you played games the battery died fast. I still need to try with my Play but I think I get more playtime from it. Download Advance Task Manager and run it when you are finished playing around with your phone each time, great little app. I also killed the widgets. Widgets are awesome and I wish I could use them but they seem to kill my battery fast. I'm going to order the charger with extra battery from Ebay soon. (Probably today)
It charges a separate battery on a stand so if you have a big game day you can swap out the battery during the day.
I love this phone for games. The iphone has a lot of games but 1 in 100 are worth the time. And the touch screen sucks for playing games. But the iphone beats the android for ease of use for thing like managing space.
Also get App to SD Pro. It is worth it and I like to buy cool tools if it saves me time of going through all my games to see which ones I can move to the SD card.

I hear that at work I have to put it on Airplane Mode.
For to increase battery you can put advance task killer on or something and get it to auto kill after lock like I did for my HTC Hero but with new advancements in the custom roms I didn't need it. I expect custom roms to help battery. Untill then, think about getting a new bigger battery. Look in the accessaries thread and find mugan batteries.

You have another couple in there that I would get rid of
Crash monitor, SecureClockService, SetupGuide, Sony Ericcson Sync.
If any of those make you nervous, have a look at this thread for details on each (look for the entry from "constin").

As always, freeze first Oh, and kill your music service when not in use also.
I leave my house at 7 am for work with a fully charged phone.
I play with it at work for about 2-3 hours on and off. (my work place is really easy going, not much to do atm )
I get home at 4pm (which is now) and battery is 48%.
Then i play with it around 1-2 hours at night when i am in bed after 10 pm.
Normally the battery is around 15% then and i put it back on charge.
So i guess 6-7 hours worth of non-stop gaming sounds about right tbh.
For no signal situations, you might want to grab NoBars from the market. When it sees that you have no signal, it puts the phone into airplane mode to save your battery and then checks for signal again every ten minutes or hour or whatever you set it to.

Thank god its not an iphone, theyl forget to put a microphone on the next one lol
I've been using Juice Defender, it works great IMO. Turns off 3G and Wifi whenever the screen is off, runs scheduled data periods to let apps/widgets update, etc.

Insane Battery Drainage

Hey, I got my nexus 4 a couple days ago and have been messing around with it. I recently went back to stock and flashed franco kernel. I just played about ten minutes of Modern Combat 4 and my battery fell more than 10%!!! I think it was fine when I first got it so I hope I didnt damage my battery somehow. I did run like 3 mins of stresstest but I did not let my battery temp get higher than 40 degrees Celsius. My CPU temp did hit 70 though and throttled. Im really baffled as what to do... When playing MC4 my phone did not feel overly hot and when I checked my battery temps were around 35 degrees.

Gaming on a cellular device does eat up a lot of juice. Especially a game with great graphics like modern combat. I see you have red lines in your battery status. You must have bad signal or no signal from where you are. That drains battery power as well as it tends to draw more power to try to connect to the cell tower/antenna. (Just in case you didn't know)

I actually dont have a sim card in yet, since I just got the phone.
I've found the phone goes longer between charges since I've broken it in a bit - a few months' charge / recharge cycles (plus expecting to need to recharge after a heavy gaming sesh) have helped

Even without the SIM card it still scans and connects to the wireless network (or attempts to when there is no signal), any cell phone with or without an active plan legally must be allowed to complete a 911 call.
Just one app's performance is not sufficient to determine the state of the battery. Run the phone for a couple of days (without the game) and get a better idea of the overall performance. I'm not sure what franco's kernel gets for battery life overall, but I'm sure other user's have posted in the thread, compare your use vs life to theirs.
In the future, don't stress test your phone. And don't double post threads please.
But my main question is, should it fall so steeply during a 10 min gaming session? If it kept falling like that I doubt il even be able to get an hour gaming time...

That's normal for MC4. I can completely drain my phone in about two hours playing that game.

Alright thanks. The first day I got it I was able to get 4 hours screen time since I was just installing stuff and readying it up. I just got worried that from my stresstesting for 3 mins I might of damaged the battery somehow. I wont be stresstesting again lol.

That's pretty damn good. Game's tend to use up quite a bit of battery, even games that aren't that intense, I get about 4% drop in ten minutes of playing Plague Inc. I don't imagine that game is nearly as CPU/GPU heavy as MC4. Of course I tend to have screen brightness higher, so that burns juice too.

is my battery faulty?

hey,
Im a new tablet user.I own a nexus 7 and im so disappointed with its battery life that i cant take it anymore so i have to ask.its just been a couple of days since i bought it. the maximum on screen time i get is 5-6hrs.i scrolled over battery life posts of others on this forum and i was shocked to see many of them actually have good battery life which made me worry even more.Maybe its the battery's fault or something.it had some heating issues then i did a factory reset now its fine but the battery still sucks.i have disabled all google apps,location,maps,books..etc all that i dont need but still its no good.please suggest something.shoud i ask for replacement or is it something like the model whose price go down are geared up with cheaper hardware and stuff cos i bought this one recently and this probably came out last year.
The third screenshot was taken after watching a full movie on earphones with full battery.it went down 32 % of the battery.wifi was off.
Please suggest
It's you usage. That's all. Games take a huge toll on battery life on any device.
You have no issue.
Try one full charge with zero gaming. See how you do then. ?
That's about average, as LJ says games really suck battery the most. My typical usage consists of web browsing, XDA forum on Tapatalk browsing, pocket, twitter, fb, etc nothing too heavy really. I get about 4-5 hrs screen on over about 2-3 days. Im usually only on my tablet in the evening and so it sleeps the rest of the time with WiFi and autosync off.
You can always experiment with other ROMs/kernels to see if you can tweak things further.
Also, 5.0 is on the way, you could always flash the factory images for a full fresh lollipop experience. [emoji2]

BATTERY LIFE: Heavy Use Endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Note5's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
When using the Note5 heavily, I can get through an entire day...but barely. Like if phone comes off the charger at 7am and I beat the crap out of it with tons of use, it'll be at around 10% by 8 or 9pm. If I'm going out, I just put it on the fast charger and bam, I'm back up to 50% in like 30 minutes.
I'm getting 8hrs sot, with WiFi running continuous, but mobile data off,I'm moderate user, still my previous phone didn't last me a day,but thanks to this phone now I'm carefree about battery, well at least for me the quest for better battery ends

Dear All,

would you help tell me about your phone it is the same or not.
Thanks

man this phone battery sucks, i use sometimes facebook, and have some news apps , some youtube, email, and bit of this and that
i charge it overnight and leave home at 8 am
and at 7 pm the phone battery is dead that is such a bad battery i wish to know how the people here praise its battery it really is bad
HI Man, it is as same as me
man today it ran out of battery so fast by 5pm it is dead, and i barely used it . Oh man i feel i did a huge mistake buying this phone
i tried factory restting it and still the same
this is so so so bad that i am so missing my iphone which was working great and had an amazing battery life
and add salt to the injury i ended up buying the sm-n920k which is the korean version and this has no rom support what so ever here on xda
i am so disappointed
For those of you that are having a lot of trouble getting through a day, I'd highly recommend this http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/guide-bloating-touchwizzing-note-5-t3184563 because I got at a minimum 150% of my original screen on time compared to when I just got the phone.
Guys i don y know what you re doing but my battery life is amazing. By far the best phone and battery money can buy at the moment. Check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63851201
I'm not sure what you people with terrible battery life are doing. I hardly used my phone today but it's still been on for a while. Switch to T-mobile and put some cool stuff on it. I am by no means an android expert, but the quest for battery life is how I discovered XDA.
My experience is different. With moderate use i drain about 12% an hour. Then again im on the moar rom with no bloatware running in back ground. But heck even with heavy use. I have yet to see the phone less than 50%.
i am not using my phone when i at work and now 16:15pm. unplugged at 07:00am. total 12,5 hours on. SOT is 1 hours and now phone at %37. Heavy AndroidSystem and AndroidOS battery drain. i tried to use my phone without root for one week but impossible. %5 per hour. Battery graphic is going down everytime!!! This is so stupid!! again i will root my phone and i will use custom kernel and again everything will be fine again.
1) samsung dont know how to code a good kernel
2) without root note 5 is worst multitasking phone with huge 4gb of ram
3) without root i cant even delete that never use and never wanted phones by me (facebook or instagram or other bull****s)
4) without root i cannot use my phone without lagfree( because i must disable or delete some useless apps that allways sits on my RAM!!)
5) i paying lots of money and for use a good phone i must forget my guarantie!!
Thanks a lot samsung! note 5 will be my last samsung phone
Actually we must talk about that! Thanks !!

Thnks....
I get very decent battery life, check this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/battery-life-discussion-t3178480
I currently have all of the bloatware running, as well. I used to use Package Disabler Pro, but no longer find that I need to use it for battery life. 99% of the time I am NOT using wifi either.
Things I have done (to the best of my memory):
1. Disabled VOLTE
2. Wifi calling
3. Turn off location history
4. Remove Android Device Manager as a Device Administrator
5. Screen brightness set pretty low, but I have it set to auto as well
Probably a couple of other things I missed, but I believe those optimizations have greatly improved battery life on my phone.
Hope this helps.

Any one has this problem after the latest update i have battery drian faster and my phone always has used more than 85% from ram.(Note5 SM_N920c)???
i would say this accounts for heavy use...a little bit of everything but.mostly youtube 1440p videos with almost full brightness...some facebook, browsing, games, etc...only wifi. from this point till i reach 5% i ll use only data to.simulate further heavy usage - so i ll update the info as soon as i reach 5% or so...
my config : darthstalker v5, skyhigh kernel 2.6 undervolted by around -100mv on almost everything, if you want i ll post links to the synapse settings from othe threads...and frequencies locked to a57 min @600 max @2400mhz, a53 min @300 max @1500mhz, gpu 266/600mhz. coming up - only data connection from 51% to 5%.
and here s the end result (so basically 49% spent only on wifi and another 46% spent only on data...

Help with new s7 edge PLEASE

Hello,
After reading alot of reviews about the s7 edge battery life i decided to get it. so i got 2 days ago and was really excited about it. the problem the battery is draining so fast and thats really confusing
ive seen screenshots with 50 hours and 60 hours with estimated time. mine barely shows 7 hours. today for example i left the house at 8 with 92% and now im back wth 36% left screen was on auto with wifi
and 3g and sometime gps on. is this normal? am i being paranoid? is it true that the battery will get better with more days of use?
Please tell me what should i do im really worried that its faulty or something.
PS: i did a factory reset before i use it.
Yes, it will take a couple of days for the battery to level out. Do you have the Exynos or Snapdragon processor? What apps are reporting high battery use? Have you disabled any apps?
Sorry for the barrage of questions, but all of these things play a role in your battery life. I recommend GSAM battery monitor and Greenify with aggressive doze, but I will say that 50-60 hours is ambitious. I can usually get 25-30 hours with about 5 hours of SOT. That is with a combination of wifi, 4g, gps and Bluetooth on (android wear), some gaming and facebook, instagram, etc.

Hi thanks for the reply, yeah its my fault i forgot to mention some information
I am using the Exynos model in Netherlands. the screen is always on the top of the list of the battery usage. im using gsam to monitor the battery and i dont think there is anything unusual there android system on the top using 25% or something. im really scared of using anything so it wont die on me outside today i was only navigating and doing some whatsapp calls on the 3g network "not even 4g". i only disabled facebook and using nova launcher and the AOD is off also. im not sure if i should send it back... how many days are we talking about for the battery to get better? i only want somehow a good battery not worse than my old grand prime. as i said i got it wendesday's evening and now its friday and its still bad

If I'm reading correctly, you are losing about 60% in 5 hours? If so, that is definitely excessive even during the first 2 or 3 days unless the screen was on and the phone active the entire time. Can you post screen shots of you battery stats? Maybe some app is causing the problem, but is not being reported as using too much battery.
Some folks say that the different firmwares have different battery usage. Has yours updated?

ok someone told me to turn it off and charge to 100% so i dont have enough data now. but im doing a test now with pokemon go lol
the screen is on about 70% brightness wifi and gps are on and radio is off (i have low cell signal now) and music app playing in the background and now after 50 minutes i am at 89% with screen on all the time. do you think this is good or bad?
i just noticed something in most of the screen shots from other people gsam shows about 3.80v near the temperature but mine show 4.07v does this makes any difference?
That sounds normal for an hour of paying Pokemon Go. It's pretty battery intensive. That voltage is just the current battery charge. It'll drop as your battery percent drops.
