Moto Maxx in Soak Test in Brazil - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

So i just asked motorola support this morning about Moto Maxx and they told me that a very limited number of people already received Lollipop. It's coming :victory:

I wouldn't get too excited about it. To me, it seems like a pretty standard answer that they would give about any model from the Moto line.
But, yeah, let's hope the update reaches us before the end of the year!

I know but i asked specifically for Moto Maxx .

Threw that into translate for those of us who don't speak Portuguese:
In the first phase of the testing process, Motorola began updating the new Android (Lollipop 5.0) for a very limited number of customers.
Motorola recommends that users stay tuned entire information disclosed on his blog and official profiles on social networks to monitor the availability of updating the products in Brazil.
In addition, the information may also be viewed through the link:

aaaaand now 5.0.1 is out.

I wonder what is fixed and how long it'll be before moto pushes that out considering not many are even on 5.0.

So Motorola now pays for being the good guy here. They quickly worked their arse off on 5.0 update , Finalising , carrier approvals and Google brings out 5.0.1. Motorola must be feeling that they should have waited.

I think this is a major reason why most companies wait a before releasing a new version. The added costs of more releases adds up quick when you have a bunch of different phones/carriers.
Its not like its going to be a major update though? Bug fixes and 'addressing complaints' id imagine.
And I only got 5.0 today.
I am sure that Motorola was well aware of Google's actions and the impending 5.0.1 release well before we were told on news feeds...
These guys are close partners and I don't think they blindside each other. I am sure Moto incorporated 5.0.1 into their update plans.
What I'm curious about is how this will effect the 5.0 rollout to devices still pending an OTA. Will Motorola halt the update and go directly to 5.0.1? or will they continue to push out 5.0 with 5.0.1 to follow in a month or so?

Try telling that to Moto X owners outside of the US.
Looks like 5.0.1 bug fixes were already fixed by Motorola in their 5.0 update.

I hope so. LG G2 in Korea is already receiving Lollipop. Galaxy S5 in Europe as well. Probably Sony will deliver this month.
This is my first motorola phone and I bought it hoping updates would be nexus-like. I'm kind of disappointed.

That's not the main reason I bought the phone. But it was definitely one of the reasons. Looking at the droids of last year and how fast they were updated on Verizon to KitKat I expected the same. but the initial launch of Kit Kat had a lot less bugs than the initial launch of lollipop. And FYI.. The s5 update is based on 5.0 not 5.2. Which is strange.

Why would it be strange? Samsung based their OTA on the version available when they started working on it. 5.0.2 wasn't available until quite a bit later.
But 5.0.2 only in nexus, and motorola said will fix bugs in Lollipop base, so i think for motorola devices this is greatt

As did htc but there lastest version is 5.0.2
I'm thinking that the Turbo will lag somewhat behind the Maxx due to the further burden of Verizons in house testing and validation. I wouldn't think too long since the Droid is minimal in its carrier bloat but I would be surprised to see the two released at the same time. It should be remembered that this is a Moto employee and he is talking about Moto devices, not Verizon devices. The latter will come out only after Verizons own testing which is another layer on top of what exists on the Maxx, Moto X, Moto G, etc.

That is because they can't just restart OTA development every time a new build is released.

Yeah, I saw that later. PocketNow originally said it was 5.0.2. But the point was, even if it's 5.0.1 the release dates are almost identical between the s5 and the M8. I guess HTC is faster at getting a build together? Or because TouchWiz is so heavily modified.
Looking at all the other oems, touchwiz, sence, lg.. They all look like the ui was just slapped on to lollipop with out adjusting the ui to reflect material design. They all look out of place and unimpressive. Which is probably why I have a droid turbo and not an s5 lol

I think a lot has to do with Samsung having such an enormous beast of an overlay, it really slows things. Lollipop also requires for everything to be compatible with ART, which means more work on the OEM's end (we can see how that can be an issue with the Turbo even now).
Then you also must account for the fact that Samsung is probably splitting resources amongst more devices to update. HTC just has a couple.
Lastly, from my rom dev days, I can honestly say that HTC has better developers than Samsung.
Motorola said to me, will comes soon, in final testing already

What happened to the soak test?

The droid turbo soak test was weeks ago.. Why aren't the rest of us getting an update of some kind. I don't care if it's a patch or 5.0, can someone just tell me why there hasn't been an update for the masses yet?

I received the surveymonky email on Jan 28th., but what I think happened was they were originally gonna soak test 5.0 or 5.0.2 and then when google release 5.1 they changed their minds to just release 5.1 as the first lollipop update to the turbo. I could be wrong but it does seem like something changed, because normally there isn't this much of a gap between surveymonkey email and actual soak.
It got delayed. They ran into a few things last week, whether its bugs or VZ approval. Should see it later this week or early next week.

I am in the Droid Turbo soak test personally. Let me say this, we know just as much as you do. A Motorola engineer recently made a post that they were facing delays and that he could not provide any further details. But they were working as hard as they could to bring us a release. For this delay, I REALLY hope it's Android 5.1. Otherwise, my image of Motorola's speed will be tarnished. Practically every flagship now is currently/has already gotten the update to Lollipop.

Honestly, I'm a little disappointed. One of the reasons I bought this phone was due to Motorola's timely software updates. Besides a few moto software tricks there's really nothing different. I know some people will say "don't buy a phone for what it might do," or "We want a stable build with no bugs." Seeing as most of their flagship phones and even budget phones are on 5.0 or higher, I'm disappointed. I get that Verizon has a big role in this but the Droid lineup seems to always to be in good favor with Verizon, but this is starting to get frustrating.

Thanks! I had no idea that the soak was delayed. I thought they had delivered it to people and for some reason it was not getting pushed out to the rest of us. I am all for giving motorola time to squash all the bugs they need to, but I feel like they could be a little a bit more transparent.
If Motorola is trying to push 5.1, and anyone working there is reading this, thank you! I cannot imagine how frustrating it must be a developer at Motorola right now. This company has changed hands multiple times since the 18 month development cycle of this phone (thanks to Verizon's rules). These devs have likely been working day and night to produce a stable build of lillipop for Motorola's flagships devices, all while Google employees, formerly co-workers of these Motorola developers, have simultaneously been doing the same for the base lollipop build with significantly better resources at their disposal and without a time crunch. Just as these Motorola devs have made 5.0 stable 5.1 comes along fixing many of the issues that delayed 5.0 on our devices to begin with. Much of Motorola's dev work and code is thrown out in favor of using what Google provided in 5.1 and now these poor devs still have to work to make 5.1 work knowing that with each passing day every user is getting more frustrated with you.
THANK YOU DEVS, we appreciate you, and we understand. Be proud of the work you do, like those of you that worked on the original DROID, who felt confident enough to mold MOTOROLA ENGINEERING into the plastic under the batter cover. I hope to see the fruits of your labor soon.

At this point, it better be polished all to hell. I'll be upset if I see any major bugs at all after that wait.

Hopefully, 5.1 for all the Quarks will be released at the same time: U.S. Droid Turbo XT1254, U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250, International Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo XT1225.
Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo XT1225 has had 5.0.2 since March. But I knew Motorola wouldn't give us 5.1 until Verizon signed off on 5.1 for the Droid Turbo.
Also would be great for Motorola to post kernel source code to Motorola's development GitHub sooner rather than later, for custom ROMs. Back in 2014, took them up to 3 months to post the source code for some updates -- which they are obligated to release under Android license.

GPL license actually and there is a gotcha in it: there must be an official request for it first and the stipulation of it being released in a reasonable amount of time is open to interpretation. On top of that, they are not required to deliver it digitally.
GPL has all sorts of unfortunate loopholes and GNU won't take people to court who violate it.
I don't suppose anyone knows the chances of us getting to keep root with this update....

If you have unlocked bootloader or bootloader than can be unlocked -- like the U.S Moto Maxx XT1250 and International Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo XT1225 -- then yes you can keep root.
For the other Quark phone, the Droid Turbo XT1254, will depend on the magic of those skilled people who did it the first time -- IF you accept the OTA.
Down in the development section, there's a rooted ROM for the Droid Turbo. Guy says you can flash his ROM, he will keep it updated to 5.1, and don't take the OTA:

I'll believe this when I see it. There's no way Motorola and Verizon would move forward with this update without a fairly large soak test. Too much stuff changed going from 4.4-5.x. 6/10 is a week away, and there's no sign soak test surveys have gone out yet, so I doubt we'll even see a soak start by that date.
I do think we're getting close to v5.1. 6/10 might have even been the target date for the release or a soak. Or maybe it's a target date for the final build which will eventually go out in a soak.

I'm skeptical too, but I will be happy to be wrong.
July 2015 was the original leaked schedule for Lollipop (after 5.0.2 was scrapped) for the Droid Turbo, leaked by someone back in March with supposed inside information. This is what I posted May 16:

95% of phones out there won't be getting an M update this year, so you are probably right.
Well, I am looking forward to the release sometime in July. Fingers crossed. I think with the hardware power of this device, getting a software makeover will make it more attractive. Especially, considering they lowered the price. The more they sell, the more likely they are to support it going forward.

As a long time Motorola user I can tell you that all these chat Infos are nonsens.
As @acejavelin said, Motorola never announced anything about update ETA. You will find these " some chat helper said" posts from Falcon over Titan until now and always the answers are useless.
All that these guys are able to do is telling you to do a factory reset. They have no clue when an update arrives, maybe they are told to say something like "within the next weeks" just to calm down the countless users that are asking for it.
These posts are useless even in combination with a screenshot. So don't post rumours that will never be confirmed and don't help anyone.
And don't crosspost these stuff in several threads!

I doubt this would happen, Moto users are not so lucky in the firmware update department!
But if you say so...then "I would give away free sweets riding a royal elephant" like those royal kings.
Coming back to the point..i strongly disagree that moto would give a certain timeline or a date, their culture is different; they believe in uncertainty and chaos.
Moto would make a grand entry with (nectar) Oreo (ahem..32-bit) for their dying devices, like a savior.
Peace out.

It doesn't seem to be available to my phone. Any idea when the Oreo 8.1 info might have been posted and when it will actually be available on my G5 plus?

Depends on where you come from. Oreo is available in India and Brazil, some users also confirm it's rolled out in Mexico and GB.
Threre are several threads around about it, also some OTA are available also fastboot firmwares.
Just search in this forum and you'll find all informations. For pending regions: Motorola never gave a timeline and most probably never will.
Edit:
Oreo won't make your life better, gives you wealth or makes your love life better. No offense, just kidding....
