update is now available - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

Currently downloading for me

What's the update for, though? VR?

VR and performance enhancements per Droid Life. I'm taking, Lollipop is coming soon, so even root is achieved, that would likely go away with Lollipop.

I just checked for updates on my Note 4 and its downloading something. Not sure yet what it is.

Just installed update. Wifi connection has improved.

I had no phone icon after the update reboot. Rebooted again and it came back. I use LTE exclusively so can't comment on wifi.

it's 4.4.4 not 5

Shame no advanced calling

Maybe because it restarted your phone? Would be great if it really did improve response time.

I thought maybe it was the placebo effect, but I've been running it for a over 3 hours since reboot and there's still much less lag than before the update.

It makes me giggle every time one of these update threads come out how people say wifi/cell signals better, this and that is better blablabla. As far as signals go unless the software running the hardware have serious flaws in it you are not going to see a difference at all. As far as signal strength goes there are so many variable that come into play was before you get anywhere near the software running the radio. Even when it comes to phone applications there is so many variable on how things run from phone to phone settings, environment, and the human using the phone being the major ones. Usually the only time you can really notice performance issues (at lease on a minor release) is if there is a serious that has been fixed or if a new issue has come up. Think the best we can hope for with this release is finding a root exploit. We have been on the previous SW version for a while now and not being able to root it so anything new is a step in the right direction to me. As far as not taking the update to each there own but in my eyes we don't have root so whats the worse that can happen.

I will not update my phone. I will keep on this version hoping for root. Nothing good for me on this update.

Bah.. Lol, I'm not even worried about root and whether or not it comes(any more).. I am just enjoying the stock device for the first time in years! This one, I installed the update.. If root comes, and I can't use it because I took the update: "oh well"... Lol..
From s-pen monster Note4

It makes me giggle when people try to make themselves feel better or superior by being condescending to a helpful poster by posting unhelpful and useless information. The wifi performance did improve. I measured it. Also, it's in the change log.

Yea, I want root to. But tossed the coin and decided with the time that's expired thus far with no root, I am currently installing this update so to get hopefully the best experience out of my Note 4 as it is w/o root. Guess it's the chance you take...

GS4 Running slowly, keyboard missing keys, and just other miscues

Hey Guys
So I am coming up from an HTC Evo 4G..(not LTE) so you already know this phone is a come up for me. I noticed, however, that the phone is running a tad slowly. Here are a few examples, maybe you all could help me out.
First - when I put in my password pin the phone will lag and catch up when I press OK. Now, technically, this is not that much of an issue because the phone opens up when I press OK...but to see that lag is a little disconcerting.
Second - if I am typing some messages the keyboard will miss certain inputs in my typing. Now maybe I am typing a little too fast, but, come on? I know I am touching those keys... I am using SmartKeyboard but I figure that could be an issue too.
I notice that my ram climbs up pretty high. I clear all my programs...but still. Anyway to remove this bloatware?
Finally is there a root out yet?
Thanks guys. Sorry for the litany of questions

Either debloat for yourself or flash a custom ROM.

There is a root available for the phone as well as a stock ROM that is entirely free of bloatware located here.
The lag may, in fact, be the keyboard you're using. The most popular keyboard of choice - and for good reason - is SwiftKey; have you given this keyboard a shot? I use it myself and type extremely fast and it keeps up better than my iPhone 4S ever did.

You can try to uninstall most of the bloatware apps but a lot of them aren't able to be uninstalled which is why people root and head to a custom ROM.
Sooner or later you'll find yourself flashing AOSP ROMs for a complete Vanilla stock Android experience and a performance increase and flashing often.
It's an addiction, I caution you my friend!

o yes, i understood that. but I just don't want to brick this thing...I'm a little nervous about that
its kinda hard to brick any samsung galaxy phone.. u would have to do thing really stupid for a brick
100% stock here and using the stock samsung keyboard I also can validate the lag and skippy issues. The chief editor over at phone dog goes over and over about this. So its kind of a known issue. I am coming from the s3 and it was smoother when it came to typing and multitasking. I end freezing and dropping frames a lot I am hoping samsung comes up with a fix.

I dont see a bug thread so this is the closet thing. Anyone have problems with youtube top bar? Its starts normal then I switch from landscape to portrait and the top bar seems to reflect different parts of the app. Since you guys dont like bloatware are there any sprint apps you actually like?

Rogers Lollipop 5.1.1 Update "Coming Soon"

Follow me @ootpapps for more timely Android updated for the S6!
Coming soon sounds worse than a definite month like June.
No, they set it to coming soon when it's near approach date. This happened with the Nexus 5 update.
Coming soon means within days or a couple weeks at most, it's their lowest date range.

Why did Rogers have anything to do with a Nexus update?
Seriously? They issue the update to customers with Nexus 5's. I'm referring to Rogers update schedule... It was the same case with the Nexus 5 update from Rogers, it was previously a month, then it said coming soon...

If you're asking this question seriously, I would say probably right around when the S8 rolls out. The S4 got 5.0.1 a few days after the S6 was released - so it seems like we get about 2 years of update coverage. That seems pretty reasonable to me for a two year old flagship (or more than reasonable, given that I last about 6 months per phone).
looking forward to it , i just hope pinpong root will be supposed

I think they may mean whether or not the new ROM has it... I don't think Rogers does anything but add their bloat to the ROM, so, chances are it's got the bug.

Would you think its still worth getting an S6 even with this flaw? I have an upgrade on Rogers, and the S6 seems like the best option. However, I feel this bug may drive me crazy.

The issue is that the S6 has to keep reloading apps, Say you open a webpage on chrome, then exit to another app. switching back to chrome will reload the page, when the page was supposed to be stored in memory.
The problem is that for a premium device which costs 600+, there should be flaws like this.

[FIX] SGS Touchscreen Booster - No more missing taps or touchscreen response delay

*If at all possible please donate to the person that created the application, you can pay via PayPal within the app*
No root required. I was able to install app from the Playstore, disregard that it mentions a Samsung phone. This website pretty much advises what settings to use and all.
Works in the meanwhile until an official fix is released for all of us G4 owners. Night and day difference.
You don't have to use the specific settings in the website, I've found some values myself that have worked well but it's a good starting point.
1.) Enable parameters
2.) Don't forget within the app to 'start service on boot'
3.) Reboot phone and enjoy a better phone experience

After setting the parameters and checking the enable on boot you must restart the phone.
If you still see no difference I would look into exchanging the unit

I tried all kinds of configurations, I notice no improvement.
I tried this app before and found no difference either. What did seem to help though (at least in my experience) was I just opted to do a full system reset, since then I have had no lag or missed touches or anything negative with my device.
I saw the title seen than seen there was no thanks to the OP... I won't even bother trying

How did you go about backing up app data (if you did). I'm kinda lost without Titanium Backup in my toolbox
Sent from my VS986 using xda premium
It might not work for everyone, unfortunately there are many that see threads like this and never post that it works.
I've done so myself once or twice in the past.
Can say for a fact that it's helped another user above and that's why I post in the 1st place.
All I can say about that is that some units may be too messed up to even fix, for them I would recommend swapping out for another device before the 14 day return is up. I noticed a huge difference in screen response taps and swipes.
I'll post my specific settings once I turn on my device, I installed my Skinomi Tech Glass today and want it to settle before I use it again.
.: Sent from an optimized 'ANDROID til I die' device :.
I'll be interested to see what settings you find to be optimal. I didn't change anything. I just started the app, set to start on boot, restarted my phone and the response is phenomenal.
I'm willing to tweak some but I'm liking it as is.

As far as backing up my app date, with US Cellular I have a stock bloat-app that allows me to back up stuff.
Only thing I may suggest for you is to get one of the Non-Root App2SD apps, install all your apps to the SD card and then reset the phone without having to touch your apps.
I tried this when it was first suggested by someone and didn't really notice any difference.
I was using it on 10a firmware and did notice an improvement.
Since updating to 10c, I don't use this app anymore, as I do not have any issues with missed taps.

I have heard others say this as well, I do not want to update though as I do not know what all is hidden within the update, and I do not want to risk blocking any exploits or anything like that.
I'm already rooted & unlocked as I have h815 GB version.
I flashed 10c from autoprime and runs nice.
Not sure if updating from lg will block any exploits?
Might be worth asking one of the devs??
This app has not been updated since 2012. Not sure if it works either, saw no difference with or without it. Placebo maybe?

did the device reboot into a recovery to install the update? curious is someone dropped the ball and left a open bootloader on the released device OR its just the monthly security patch, prob the latter...
further investigations...it did include a new bootloader. i would hold of on installing this if you want root. you never know
Lol yeah not rooting, leaving it alone
I did not install the update. I just love that they say that ATT wants to install an update and give no more information as to what or why. After my upgrade experience I'm not real trusting and was hoping someone could report what it is. Want to compare?
Sadly, it's probably a bunch of good fixes bundled in with some unwanted bloatware and security "enhancements". Lol
BUT... that's just pure conjecture on my part, as I watch the N7 forums and live vicariously through you all. I'm still happy with my rooted Note 3, can't justify the upgrade cost, can't live without my IR blaster, and so will wait.
So, anyone know whats in the update(is it just the Android Aug security update)? Any chance it really would affect root? For me, the only reason to not root is Samsung Pay and since it doesn't support either one of my cards, not worried about that "feature".

It does contain a new Bootloader, and the update was prob forced upon you. Yesterday my device buzzed in my pocket, heard the ATT ding ding dong sound. Pulled my Note out and it was optimizing apps (about 50 of them). Seems they forced the update to my Note, even though I had clicked "install later" many times through-out the day. bastards!
I believe it's just a security update.
I did not get update. Do you have to have a att simcard in phone to see update.

It does contain a new Bootloader, and the update was prob forced upon you. Yesterday my device buzzed in my pocket, heard the ATT ding ding dong sound. Pulled my Note out and it was optimizing apps (about 50 of them). Seems they forced the update to my Note, even though I had clicked "install later" many times through-out the day. bastards!

The only way to keep from downloading an update is to have Wi-Fi turned off or disable the update totally with package disabler pro. The phone automatically downloads any update if you are connected to Wi-Fi and will install it even if you hit install later. The phone does the install after the third time you decline it. All of my Samsung phones have done this.

Okay i sh*t you not, I read this on lunch and said in my head there's no way it forced itself, or maybe it's an option to disable under developer settings. Got off lunch and felt my phone vibrate because it was turning back on. Pulled my phone out and saw that it was optimizing apps and I'm like like wtfffffff out really forced itself. I wasnt on Wi-Fi or anything and my phones battery was at like 30% so i honestly couldn't believe it did the update as such a low battery without asking, crazy. ?

The device is brand new. You can expect battery improvements over the next few days, no matter what you do. It takes 3-7 days of charging and use for the battery to reach maximum efficiency.
