[Q] navbar and status bar gradient - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else notices the gradient over the N4 navbar and status bar running lollipop that is not present on the N5 (and the N6 as far as i know)?
Bug or feature?
Any way of making it clear?
(n4, unlocked, unrooted, stock)

am I the only one who is bothered by this?

I never noticed it, but you're right. Must be because the Google Now launcher isn't the stock launcher on the Nexus 4

It's not the launcher that's the issue, it'll be SystemUI.apk or something similar that has the gradient in it...

there's a fix, but don't know where!!!

Xylon ROM Mako

Since I am not allowed to post in developer forums, I try it here.
I flashed the latest xylon rom (xylon_mako_017_nightlies-23.zip)
I really like that the whole screen is filled with the live wallpaper. Even the background color of nav and status bar are transparent.
But as soon as I went into navbar settings they aren't fully transparent anymore. They are black with a low transparency.
I didn't change their color just the color of the icons. But it changes by itself. And I find no way to get them back to be fully transparent.
Anybody running xylon and knows what the problem is?
Moreover what do I have to do to be allowed to post in developer forums? Only make more then 10 posts?
thanks
Did you check in Xy settings, General UI, Navbar Transparency? He moved that setting from navbar settings to general ui a few days ago.

Yeah, you can change the transparency for the homescreen area but any time you open an app the navbar and status bar go to black.
I was hoping it would stay transparent everywhere, I'm not a big fan of Pie myself and would rather have clear bars.
I just started using this ROM though, so wasn't sure if that was normal or not.

No the fact that when you plug in the device the LED stays green and when the phone hits 14% and under it will constantly flash a red LED

[Q] Hide Notification Bar

I've noticed that with a stock (default) wallpaper the notification bar is transparent. But when I put any other wallpaper it is opaque and visible. See the difference in the examples in the attatchments.
My question to everybody is this.
What is your favorite app to hide the notification bar?
is it a Launcher app? a status bar app?
which one do you use?
Nova has the ability to hide the notification bar. Then you can swipe down from the top and it will reappear as needed.

Nova yes, but it works only on the launcher, not apps or lock screen. Do u have any apps/xposed frames for hidden notification bar for all situations? thanks in advance.

I hide mine with the xposed app settings module and than call it with smart statusbar +
I started using the Nova Launcher. While I do show it hiding the notification bar, it doesnt let me pull it out when I need to.
I mean like unhiding it to see what notifications are there by scrolling down from the top.
I dont want to see it 24/7 I only want it to show when i want it.. make sense?

Yeah... I don't understand why there isn't a LMT launcher for the notification bar, to have it work in the same way as their soft buttons, ya know? This would be sweet...
I use GMD Gesture Control.
I like to sometimes go full screen too, and with this you can still go back, go Home, Settings, Multitask, etc... All by using gestures (like an iPad).
I really recommend it much!
Cheers!

How to remove Lock Screen Wallpaper!

So, I was looking for a while how to remove the wallpaper on the lockscreen to match the one I have on my homescreen automatically. Some apps that apply wallpaper don't give you the option to select to change the lock screen, and the only way is to go through the touchwiz system wallpaper chooser, and it will prompt. Otherwise, I might have found a solution??
The trick is very simple, head over to the galaxy store and install good lock, then from the good lock settings uninstall it, and it will remove the lock screen wallpaper and it will match your homescreen if you change your wallpaper a lot. I also found if you changed the theme, you'd have to re-do the process over again. Make sure to select your favorite theme first before you do this.
Did anyone find a simpler solution? Please share if you have one!

Interesting... I was trying to figure this out to use with Muzei. I'm wondering why note 7 doesn't have the ability to choose lockscreen and homescreen wallpaper the way older galaxy's did.
Anyway will try this and report back
Um, all you have to do is go into your gallery, choose pic, choose set as wallpaper, and then select lockscreen..

Yeah but that only selects the wallpaper, it doesn't do anything else. It doesn't match. The objective is to match the same screen. I'll try with live wallpapers and repot

Awesome, glad to hear it worked for you. For a while, it was bugging me. Here is a funny thing. As I am using the phone now like that, sometimes after unlocking the phone, I see flashes of what appears to be stockish android before the tw launcher comes, barely noticeable and very interesting.

On a serious note, that is very interesting... A Galaxy device with stock Android UI plus unique Samsung features would be a Android fan's dream.

What I did was took a picture of the wall with my phone flat up against it in low-light with my screen darkened. Then I edit picture in gallery (darkness down, contrast down). I did that twice then saved it as a perfectly black picture then I set my wallpaper (home screen and lock screen), using TouchWiz.
Thanks for the tip. Now my live wallpaper is also now on my lock screen.

Good find,
Thanks!
Why doesn't this work for me?! I want my magic fluids lock screen!!!!!
Works great, thank you. Nice to have again live wallpaper on lock screen.
Currently "good lock" app is not available on Galaxy store, but it is available here:
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsun...lease/good-lock-24-0-12-android-apk-download/
Don't try other apps with the same name from Google play because it will not work.
There is also a way to do it. Download and set a live wallpaper as background on both desktop+lockscreen. Then unistall the lwp. There, both desktop+lockscreen should have a blank (black) background. Then when using an app like QuickPic that doesn't give an option to set wallpapers in both desktop+lockscreen, becouse all are blank, setting only desktop wall then lockscreen will also have the same (because it is transparent now)
Maybe some developer could make an app that removes the background wall from both desktop+lockscreen, that way it whould be much easier to do it.

how to change the default icon in an icons pack?

hi guys,
i have a question about an icons pack, when i use it with my launcher, everything work normally but some icons, i don't like them and if i open the icons pack app i find that there are other icons for example icon for "Phone" app there is 8 different designs and settings app has 6 other designs ...ect. but how to change the default one by the other in the icons pack app ?
i hope you understand my question.
With Nova prime hold and drag any app too edit on the top of the screen. Then in that box that pops up just selecting the icon picture will bring you to the icon pack selection. Then from in there the individual icon you want. I'm sure most launchers work in a similar manner. Just look up your launcher on google or youtube and how to change individual icons will get you a tutorial.

I figured that just want to throw it out there just in case you where. Yeah that's not possible with a stock launcher as I mentioned before if you can invest in Nova launcher Prime. You can virtually do everything you've ever wanted to do. It's even easy to replicate pixel launchers if you want. And as mentioned in my previous post change each apps icons to whatev

android pie gestures are pointless

Can someone explain the point of gestures control in android pie? I thought the point of it was to take up less space on the screen, but the pill never fades when scrolling so you have the exact same amount of space on the screen as when you didn't have swipe up on home enabled. The whole thing seems a bit pointless to me. It would make more sense if when scrolling through a website the pill would disappear and reappear if you swipped up
True
I'm what would be considered a Google Fan Boy. But you're 100% correct about this.
I had PP with BB10 OS there was excellent swype control
The only "advantage" over regular button navigation is you can swipe directly to the app drawer from any app. Other than that, yeah it doesn't add much but I still use it.

It is beyond stupid. And super ugly too. Home "Pill" in the middle, back button on the left, recents now added to the pill and nothing on the right...

Not without root.
You can change without root
Absolutely correct op. I don't get the gestures. I hate how the opening of the app draw is implemented. Big swing and a miss.
absolutely agree with you. saddens me to say that apple has implemented gestures much better.
Personally I don't mind it but the most useful thing I found was being able to switch between apps that are in the background easily. For those who haven't discovered it you swipe right from the pill. I hope they add more functionality to it.
I use 'OnePlus Gestures'. It does cost £1.99, but I find it an almost flawless execution of what gestures on Android should be particularly when used with 'Hide Nav Bar'.
The Google implementation of gestures is just bizarre!
I'm rooted. How can i move it?

No root needed to swap back key to the other side.
adb shell
settings put secure sysui_nav_bar "space,recent;home;back,space"

I am also using nova launcher and custom Navigation bar app so I have it set for the pill to disappear after a couple of seconds. Swipe up on bottom to make it come up.

To understand what they are doing and why they are doing it the way they are, you first have to understand one thing:
Google likes the navbar. They have no intention of ever getting rid of it. (They have mentioned this in their blog.)
So with that in mind...
What they are doing is adding functionality on top of the navbar. Instead of back-home-recents, you now have back and a pill. The pill doubles (quadruples?) as a recents button, as an app-drawer launcher, as a switch-to-last app button, and a scroll-through recents button (All of these things can be done with one touch, from any screen.)
The aren't getting rid of the navbar, they are not trying to free up screen realestate; they are trying to make the existing navbar that they love more functional
Love it, or hate it; I hope this helps someone better understand the reasoning behind the direction they are going.
I just upgraded to Pie (Full Image dirty install) and my Nav still has back/home/recents. Do I have to flip a switch or something to try out the new version? Also, related question, how do I do split-screen with Pie?
