Galaxy Note Edge (Korean Model) vs (International Model) - Note Edge General

I am thinking of getting the Galaxy Note Edge but I am confused which model to get.
The Korean Model has the Exynos CPU while the International Model has the Snapdragon CPU.
Which do you think will be a better option?
The only negative point about the Korean model is the useless Korean apps and Korean Text on the phone dialer.

I have the Snapdradon Note 4 and Exynos Edge and i do prefer the Exynos based Note. But i have no warranty as it is imported to the UK. If you are happy with that risk i recommend Exynos. Also check the LTE coverage for your location. In the UK on EE i appear to have Cat 6 LTE, which is good.

I have the Exynos Edge and the Snapdragon Note 4 and I find the Edge superior in every way.

I too have Note 4 snapdragon and the Exnyos Edge. Very impressed with the edge. I would not swap it for snapdragon model.
Yes you end up some useless Korean apps but uninstall most. Korean characters on the dialer is the only thing thats currently bothering me.

Dear
I had the chance to use three models of the device
N-915S ||| N-915G ||| N-915F
the later models uses the snapdragon while the first uses the exynos.
I can say that the snapdrgon Edges are way better than the exynos. I had lag in the S model. Battery life is at least 20% better in the snapdragon. The only drawback is it gets heat more.
However we should consider that the S had an operator ROM which might causes the issues above.

have the n915k (another korean variant like the s)
dont have lte in my country yet but I noticed with my previous note3 n9005 snapdragon if your 3G provider supports h+ (hspa or something) the connection is upgraded to H+ (and shown in the status bar as h+ instead of 3g)
with exynos unable to connect to 3g as h+ (same location same operator) hope this is a modem thing and could be fixed via custom or official update in the future coz h+ is definitively faster than 3g at least with my operator.
the Korean characters did also bug me so I had to install a 3rd party dialer

From my experience with the G906S...even if you are connected to H+ the icon still stays at 3G.

I bought the Korean N915S phone and I am very happy with it.
The performance is good as expected. I waiting for someone to find a way to get the Korean text out of the phone dialer but apart from that it is a great phone.
I am currently running Skyhigh rom from "UpInTheAir". Thanks for a nice rom. Hope he carries on with updates as new firmwares are released.
Here are some pictures of my phone.

Here is a test run of Antutu.
Antutu = 49771

Finally found a better full screen protector for my Note Edge.
It is anti glare though but it covers the full screen (edge to edge)

Last week I got the S Charger cover for my Note Edge. I also put 3M protection for the phone body and back cover so that I don't need to put a case on. It is much easier to carry it without a case.

Well, it is the Exynos processor not a hummingbird (hummingbird is the processor of the original galaxy s), it is not yet known which will launch where and how it will effect hacking. We will have to wait for that.

There was a discussion about Tegra and Exynos versions.
I remember that Tegra goes to south America and USA and that's all.
Is that Tegra2 + SLCD even confirmed by anyone yet? I haven't seen anything but rumors.
All rumors, nothing that has been remotely confirmed by Samsung. Just a few benchmark sites posting the possibility of a Tegra 2 version.
At least thats what I have seen so far.
Tegra 2 + SLCD = Russia and Middle East.
not confirmed .. but like the old galaxy s i9000
when it came with slcd and another processor it was for ME and Russia
I think sammy would want their SOC in the "premier" markets. And maybe use tegra as a way to fill in the gaps in countries that are maybe less inclined to buy a super high end smart phone
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I have never seen proof anywhere that the Tegra 2 version will come with SC-LCD.
Has anyone else?
i think this time around, samsung is going to keep the screen on both the versions as Super AMOLED Plus, and only change the SOC where necessary.
Its probably not relevant to you guys but apparently the combination of Tegra/SAMOLED+ is coming to Hong Kong.

anyway glad its coming with SAMOLED+ cuz thats what makes SGSII stand out.
how can samsung still call a version with slcd and tegra 2 samsung galaxy s 2. its highly likely that handset with slcd will be considerably thicker and will be less efficient in consuming battery. there may be tegra2 with samoled plus but i highly doubt slcd version will come out. may be tegra 2 with amoled or superamoled ?????

No SAmoled and SAmoled+ at the same time! Samsung is replacing SA with SA+. SA is basically not produced. It is old technology, makes no sense for them to use factory capacities for SA when they can use them for SA+.
And Samsung Galaxy S II is a series or family of devices, just like the original Galaxy S was. You had various screen and processor technologies in the original SGS, as well as various screen sizes!
How you distinguish these - by model number.
SA+ with Exynos is model GT-i9100 (followed by letters of the target market)
hope this helps.

Interesting
This is super interesting! From your pics I see that the phone has 4 connector pins, how many does the battery have? How many does the Indian battery have? I am inclined to believe this is the mystery behind "Optional NFC".
It would be interesting to see some side on shots compared to a standard SGS II - I hear the NFC version is somewhat thicker?
AFAIK, the KOREAN SGS2 had NFC since launch. lol
sd card slots not in the same place either
An NFC-chip inside the battery would actually make sense. It has a large surface area inside the phone, which would make the NFC handling easier.
However, the design is completly different. On the non-NFC GS2, the microSD cardslot is on the left side and the battery connectors are on the right side. Some small differences with the SIMcardslot and the external antenna connector too. So it seems its more than just the battery.
What are the specs on this version? Do they use the AT&T US frequencies?
Just a quick question: Have you checked 3G bands on the phone?
I heard that the Korean version is NOT quad-band, and am just wondering if you could check that.
Thanks.
I mentioned this a while ago.

It's my understanding that the phone extends the NFC antenna onto the battery so signals don't get blocked by the battery.
It's tri-band only. Don't know why they'd do that though.

thats why samsung has maded such a thin plastic backcover... i guess so.... nice thinking & it is an indirect clue i am almost sure....

Was on one of the Korean Samsung Spec pages. Lost the link. Although I don't see why they'd make the international version quad band and the domestic version tri band, makes no sense. There's a number code you can enter to check the phone's settings/hardware. It didn't seem to work for me though.
BTW how did you manage to get the phone? It's my understanding you can't buy it outright here unless you're on a visa. Unless you're on a visa...
@manuvaidya:
They've been dumped already. They were dumped a few days after the phone was released. Seems like it's just not that interesting to devs here.

I hope so, we can just purchase the battery and/or sim if both are needed and we get NFC.
I guess NFC in the future release might mean it comes with a NFC enabled battery.

The picture above makes it quite obvious with the “Galaxy S II” logo printed on the back. While this is expected to be a rather minor upgrade, with no major changes, a few improvements are expected, such as a seemingly larger 4.5-inch display, as opposed to the current Galaxy S II’s 4.3-inch one, and support for T-Mobile’s faster HSPA+ 42Mbps connection.
Much like the original Galaxy S II, this slightly revised model is expected to include the hardware and features that made the previous one successful, namely its dual-core 1.2 GHz SoC processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel camera and the ability to output fully uncompressed 1080p high-definition video through its built-in HDMI port. There are no apparent changes software-wise: much like the original release, the revised Galaxy S II is expected to include the latest version of Android, 2.3 Gingerbread, along with Samsung’s custom TouchWiz interface, which is aimed at streamlining Android’s standard user experience. The phone’s back now sports a brushed metal look as well, contrasting with previous Galaxy S II models.
Although the handset is not yet available through a carrier in the US, its release is projected to take place sometime this month. In addition to T-Mobile, this variant of the Galaxy S II is expected to also be available North of the border through the Canadian carrier Telus.

Shannon 333 Modem

I have been wondering about baseband(s) in the S6/Edge. The teardown video did not reveal anything about it due to shared heat sinks blocking the markings on various chips. Then I found this nugget from AT&T's specs listing for the S6/Edge.

All I know so far is that this modem was used in the 3rd variant of the Note 4 after the S805/Exynos 5433. There were rumors that Samsung would produce a new version of Note 4 using S810, but it turned out to be Exynos 5433 + Shannon 333 modem which was named Note 4 S-LTE. I believe this model was Korea-only at the time.

There has been scarcely anything known about this modem. I am hoping to learn more about it.
Entering Service Mode might tell you a lot about the capability of the modem, I think.
Shannon 333 LTE Modem
I just learned about Samsung using this modem in the S6 in the last 2 days. I Pre-Ordered an S6 Edge on March 27 and it arrived March 31. Almost immediately I noticed a much larger than normal drain on the Battery. I also noticed something even more unusual given my observations of Android Devices. It seems the highest battery drain on my T-Mobile S6 Edge is coming from "Cellular Standby." I have taken the liberty of uploading a screenshot. My observation is that, almost without fail, the screen is usually the largest consumer of battery power on Android Devices.
When I learned that Samsung ditched the Snapdragon SoC for the S6, I loved the idea. I've had a Note 10.1 2014 with the Exynos 5420 for some time now and love the performance. Performance is similarly awesome in the S6 with the 7420. I can't help but wonder though, if the Shannon 333 LTE Modem is at the root cause of the inordinate battery drain. Is it a hardware issue or a software issue?
With the little research I've done I have been able to determine that there is a bit of a difference in the LTE transmission frequencies between the networks used in Europe and Asia and the networks used in North America. I wonder if I am on the right track.
So if anyone reading this knows more on the subject than I do; I'd sure love some feedback.
The FCC documents filed for every phone shows how the radios perform. The S6 sprint was average.

That's irrelevant because the Sprint version doesn't use this modem.

Which modem does the Sprint/Verizon version use? Is it not the Exynos 333 modem?

The issue has been confirmed to be related to having wifi and wifi calling on. It's an issue that has plagued most 5.0.2 devices. Turning those two things off results in cell standby disappearing from battery section.

MDM9635. Qualcomm still has a monopoly on CDMA.

I wonder if this has any affect on battery life. Although I've read the phone no longer does SVLTE which equalizes power usage on standby for calls etc.
Are you with Anandtech? If so when will the review be coming?
The reviews around the net are good but does not mention which version of the phone ie. carrier is being used.
my 2 cents

End of this week / early next week. All US reviews out there use the T-Mobile version with the SS333. I don't think any media has the Quaclomm modem yet unless they got it from the carriers.

Yes, all the CDMA variants are using a Qualcomm modem.

More info on this would be appreciated if found...
Still hoping for some information on this modem
This modem is horrible. Probably why I have poor reception on my Galaxy S6 Edge.
Likely a stupid question.

I am trying to determine if a modem flash is capable of allowing a switch from gsm to cdma. Are the shannon 333, or MDM9635 able to be altered in this was, or is it completely impossible, because a hardware change is necessary?

Galaxy S7 Edge Black Pearl 128GB SM G935FD

Hi I bought this variant in exchanging my Galaxy S7 flat model. The phone variant is now available in India from 31 of December 2016 in all Samsung stores.
Two main reasons which made me to turn to this model:
1. Storage ( which was less in flat model)
2. The stunning complete black colour in all surfaces and more shining than the normal black onyx.
It has to be prebooked first then only it can be made to purchase.
In India it cost at 56900 rupees.

Mind posting some pictures of it, if possible?
I'm contemplating on whether or not to trade in my Black Onyx 32GB S7e, the extra storage would certainly be appreciated lol.

Dual sim bro but hybrid. Either Sd card or Sim 2. Both the slots supports 4g and VoLTE.

I am tempted by this. Have a S7 Edge which I picked up in November (was a Note 7 prebooker). Have already run out of space thanks to VR apps. How much of a price reduction can you expect if you trade in the 32GB version and buy the 128GB one?
Also, with the S8 out in a few months, wondering if it even makes sense to buy the 128GB version, especially if you already have the 32GB one. I am pretty sure S8 will be a radical departure and something that may even need you to buy a new VR headset.
Currently, a bit confused about what to do!

My S7 flat was exchanged for just 28000 INR. It was only Samsung showroom who accepted this amount whereas other sellers were highly disappointing me in the exchange value. As I said earlier I was dying out of storage since I use mobile more in both official and personal than my PC. Hence I need storage. Also dual sim support where carriers like Reliance jio are giving VoLTE services.
You can wait for S8 if you need but remember S8 mostly will not support the current VR glass and many changes and more luxury ( costlier than note 7)

But is this the SM-G935FD Exynos?
