New Firmware Rolls Out for Xperia Z3 23.0.1.A.5.73 - Xperia Z3 General

I didn't see this posted. I just got a notification on my Xperia Z3 D6603 that a system update is available. It is 23.0.1.A.5.73 for 129.5 MB. My firmware was Generic Global 23.0.A.2.93. I haven't noticed any visual changes but it is faster and snappier.
Has anybody gotten this?
Any changes?

I got it on Slovakia

I've got it too in Poland. Actually installing

I still have older version (23.0.A.2.93) ,should i be worried? I have flashed smartphone for central europe 1 (poland) wichout any branding

An update is nice, but in lieu of this privilege escalation, http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2014/Nov/51, I'm not touching any update until I apply a root exploit first.
I just don't want an OTA slimming my chances of being able to backup my TA partition.

Got it as well. Can't remove persistent Google search bar from homescreen anymore.

Don't worry, you can always go back to whatever FW version, if then really required. And, whether an exploit would be found... well, I hope so, but it may take some more time. Could also be the case no Developer cares about KK anymore.

Definately more snappy, camera launches extremely quick now.
The phone also now has more than twice the amount of free memory for me than it did prior to upgrade 1.4GB free.
Just tested the camera, and it is about the same as previous in terms of picture quality.
This update fixed my touch screen issues I had with games and other applications.

That's disappointing. They really need to fix photo quality and correct for that pink spot issue. The camera is a huge step down from the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 at the moment.

Samsung, HTC, and others had the issue and fixed them from a firmware/software update.

ok then good news if that is the case. I would be sure that more people would have the issue if in was just a firmware issue.
If you have got the issue, why don't you try to flash different firmware versions, and see if any fix the issue?

I think it's a hardware related software issue. I fixed my HTC m7 before but the low light performance got weaken after that.

Seriously? You may have an argument for the Note, but the iphone 6 camera is as bad as the phones that came before it. The iphone 4 was the best out of the iBunch for me.
As for the Z3, the camera is far from amazing but I have exellent 20mp manual shots to my eyes and no pink spot and i'm on 23.0.A.2.105.

Pink spots only appear in low lighting. If you adjust the white balance warmer, it won't appear.
The iPhone 6 is absolutely a stunning camera and beats the Note 4 when it comes to indoor low light consistency. I've owned each have compared them side-by-side. It is quite a bit better than the iPhone 4.
The 20MP and 8MP Superior Auto shots are roughly the same in terms of details, by the way.

New firmware certified for the Z1 14.2.A.1.114

What is it going to bring?
hopefully camera improvements, this (at least for me) is the main area that needs further improvements. we also need white balance and the ability to move apps to the SD.

I was amazed too! I guess it will be bug fixes, which we need.
Camera improvements too! I mean, you can take great photos with Manual, but you'll need time to set it up.

White Balance definitely will be in next update.
May be we'll have better RAM management, fix some issues of previous firmware.
We have to wait til beginning of Jan to get this update.
Btw, someone in XDA have posted the way Sony named for Xperia's firmware. I don't remember, can someone re-post it please.
Wow Sony is really not slacking with their updates now!
How long did it take from when .290 got certified to it got released again?
I think we will see this update out early January

Well this might be the update that was mentioned by a Sony representative from a Sony forum that will be rolled out of the first few days of January next year and if this is it then it will include the White Balance setting. And that'd be the answer to our prayers who's suffering the yellow hue. Yay!:fingers-crossed:

this isn't 4.4, neither it is just a minor bug fixes. I am not expecting a big list of additional features but we might see quite good number of bug fixes and few additional features (white balance) and some improvements because the build number is quite different from what we have. just like .257 update.
One thread was already closed few days ago when someone show up with a new Firmware update which should fix all the problems with the Z1. I really hope this one will be confirmed soon as I waiting for that. The number 1 is the most important thing that mean huge improvements and changes between 14.2.X.0.XXX and 14.2.X.1.XXX.
actually, this can be a decent update, the one that just came out was maybe tested and created as a core android 4.3 with same features and functionality across for Z1, Zu and Z phones. This upcoming update is probably ZU and Z1 both newer and S800 specific update with extra features. Could be why we still havent gotten an offical change log because they are still rolling out 4.3 for Z phones and probably update the change log together with this firmware for Z1. Who knows.

yes at present it is in testing but a firmware with 14.2.A.1.XXX will come soon either the same build certified or a higher one. ( hopefully by end of this year on in early week of JAn 2014 ).
Or if you've bought an unbranded one in UK you probably won't get it before your next new phone purchase. Never known an update take so long for sim free phones.

if you guys got the japanese one, the new firmware gives white balance option and some tweak to the battery save menu.
Nothing much else though.

Well....they have found a bugs in that fw so they built fixed fw, certified it and it's in testing stage.
That will be (most likely) fw that will be released.
Would you be happier with fw full of bugs and errors or rather wait few more days for fw with less bugs and problems?
Lollipop will be out sooner then we all thought and that's something that I want as soon as possible, 4.4.4. is something we need but 5.00 is fw I can't wait to see...

No...it'll be out in a next few days...there's no chance they'll wait one whole month.
New firmware is tested, they fixed all bugs and they are doing finial testing.
It's quite obvious that testers found problems in first build, so they fixed that and certified another build.
That should be the one we'll receive...
Of course, it's always possible that they bump into serious problems and can't release this one too but I really doubt that...
This is now just polished version of first certified fw and that one should be good...

may be Lolipop's!... as far as I know PTCRB versions for certifications are for release versions... not internal. My assumption is either this is for a different market or an enhanced version. the 3.0.1.A.3 and 3.0.1.A.0 numbers - makes me think it could be an upgraded version.
on the other hand I see Z2 (just like Z Ultra) prices falling linearly - I suspect we will have this version as last but one in case it is 4.4.4 or if 5.0 then could be the end....!

I think he mean it is the end of the Z and not Z2 because the Z2 have more ram and a better chip like a 2.3 ghz quadcore instead of 1.5 ghz, so let we all wait on 4.4.4 and next year on 5.0 and then we can talk further about any updates if we Z2 users already run as the 1st ones on 5.0 !

I think so, but it's a big jump over previous build.
if you look at curent market outlook, sony's losses and Samsung in re-planning, and Motorola out from google, i see that gameplan will change soon, and the support model and release cycles will have a great impact.
Supporting a model over 2 years is a huge cost if the chipsets and technology change with every model. Z2 an Z3 will not have impact for a year or so since chipsets are similar. but Z4 onwards I see there will be a shift in whole view of mobile devices since business is getting hit, Google is revamping its strategy. it will not be plain simple firmware upgrades every quarter anymore in my view. I may be wrong and I know people are just waiting for new firmware upgrades - as long as mobile works - and apps work I dont see a need of releasing a version unless there is major tuning or upgrade.
2 years lifecylce is good, but every 6 months firmware upgrade is something I doubt going forward after Lolipop
i cant wait anymore , i hope this FW rollout in next days

I haven't seen anything yet that says RAW and shutter control WILL be coming with 5.1, just speculation that it will.

Well rogers is Canadian. My Telus Note 4 got lollipop about 3 weeks before the T-Mobile N4. Sprint and Verizon I think had it before. So maybe there is some hope.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920AZ
Sprint has been rolling out updates suprisingly quick...probably their effort to maintain the customer base they have. ?
With the GSM variants especially the Multi CSC ones like the Canadian 920W8, carriers need not do anything except make sure their bloat works and the APNs are correct since the bloat is only installed upon first boot. The biggest delay is probably hosting it on their OTA servers and deploying it cause they are in no way touching the core OS or FW itself!

Z5 Marshmallow update

Ok guys, since we're all waiting in here, seemed like a good idea to start this thread... If anyone has any 'good' news they'd like to share about the update, please do so here
Also, when the update is out, would be cool to have everyone post their comments and experiences in this thread, keeping it tight!
At this point, we don't seem to have anything set in stone on when this update is coming, I'm just hoping on a couple of good fixes with the update, like the auto brightness issue, camera optimisations, smoothness/lag issues etc..
What do you guys hope to get to see in the new update?
I hope it wont take long.
Misleading title
I'm kinda happy with my Z5 so far (I encounter bugs and issues here and there though). I'm a little bit less impressed with Sony when it comes to fixing bugs and releasing updates.
Mashmallow release date: October 5, 2015
October... November... December... 1/2 January... still no release date. I'm not talking about the actual ROM, just about a release date... (January? February?)
And I'm pretty sure they received the Marshmallow sources way before October 5th and they use a pretty-near stock ROM. What's taking so long compared to, for example, Motorola or LG (already on Marshmallow)? I mean, yeah the KitKat -> Lollipop transition was pretty steep, with a lot of new code, but Marshmallow and Lollipop are close cousins, use the same design, ART runtime, etc.
Or maybe it's just me; After using custom roms for years, and not having to wait that long after a manufacturer to update its phones, I became impatient :|
At least Sony update their phones I'm happy to wait when it comes it comes I'm tired of expecting. We had 2 year updates with the original XZ so I'm more than happy
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
I don't understand why the Z3 series has the Marshmallow concept and Z5 doesn't.
Waiting is okay for me, as long as the update brings something big, like new feautres. But at least Sony should tell us when they're going to release Marshmallow - it's now a bit long time already.
I hope to see new redesigned UI as current one is really boring and these colorfull icons in menus are no longer elegant to be honest, it does not look consistent to me any longer.
Camera blur fix and low light improvements along with 4K 60fps and intelligent stady shot are expected.
Battery life for sure needs to be improved as well as lags and response of the phone.
Bug fixes please.

Marshmallow was released by google on October 5th 2015...
It's a shame because I'm waiting for the marshmallow update to see if it's worth me keeping this phone or selling and getting a nexus 6p
Sony never promised MM to release in 2015 for the Z5 lineup, according to sources the update is going to be released this month.

I'm thinking the same thing, either swapping it or selling it for either a 6P or a G4 (or even my previous Moto X Style I swapped for this device)
They need to fix and improve a lot of stuff for the device for me to keep it..
It's been reported that the new firmware bound for Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z4 in Japan has been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance, a process that is needed to for OTA software update, so hang in there folks =)

It was, like, a month ago... Nothing new.
I have marshmallow on my 6P and I tried the concept on the Z3 and it's not that much of a change. It does bring native fingerprint scanner support that hopefully Sony will bring forward with their own scanner. Also adopted SD storage with it's a bit of a mess on its own.
Another thing I've noticed, because app uptake for new versions of android is slow (right now about 5% of people are on marshmallow) there's a lot of bugs to be ironed out by devs at the beginning therefore IMHO is much better to get onto the new big releases a few months later after Google puts them out.
I think Sony does a fine job with all this. By the time they came out with Lollipop most bugs had been ironed out and they quickly brought it up to 5.1.1.

Android 7.1 Update ??? Will we get it ?

When will LG rollout Android 7.1 update for LG G6 ? Will they give 7.1 or directly to Android O ?? Beacuse 7.1 has many improvements including battery optimization.
no we no
LG update only main version. and security patch...
But now big problem. lastest security patch april 1---

So now the LG users are doomed? The biggest security risks are the users themselves that downloads apk files of the Play Store grid and don`t read their rights when installing them And yes i`am sure we`ll get 7.1 and after that Android O.
Got the EU G6 delivered today. I really like the design and screen.
To my amazement it was running the April patch. I was assuming that LG had their updates working by now, like Samsung. Even my old Note 4 from 2014 gets regular updates and has the May patches. The G6 being a flagship phone and anything but cheap, this is unacceptable to me. Needless to say it's going back to Amazon tomorrow.

So... this bothered you to the extent that you actually returned the phone? It runs good, has an excellent screen, top-notch camera, IP68 and so on, but screw all that - it's not sporting the latest security patch from Google.

Yes, the missing updates are the core reason and it goes to show that LG still doesn't care, just like Samsung once upon a time. Samsung has now understood and are much better at keeping their units up to date. And as you can see at least some customers do care.
Everyone has different priorities and having the manufacturer keep the software up to date is very high on the list for me.
As to the LG G6 itself - I do like it a lot. But the fact that they have cut more corners adds to the software dilemna.
Here in Europe we get no wireless charging and are stuck with a measly 32GB. The Asian model gets 64GB and is even 100 EUR cheaper (go figure) and would work in terms of the LTE frequencies. But as we know that one isn't unlockable which is the next move by LG I don't agree with.
And lest I forget, the Snapdragon 835 is a huge boost compared to the 821, that's another sub par feature of the G6.
LG and others like them are going to go the way of the Dodo if they don't keep up with the Jones's and release their units with tons of features missing and without proper software support.
Your first post only mentioned the security update being a month behind as your reason for returning it.
Now youre complaining about details that you knew (or should have known) before before deciding to purchase it.
What are these "tons of features missing"?
I'm talking about the 821 vs. the 835 the phone deserves. Then no wireless charging, lack of community support due to the bootloader only being open in certain regions.
I would have been fine with all of it but the software just did it for me.,
It's still a nice phone but not for me.,

And it's not one month behind. LG gets the April update in March, by now they already have the July update. June is already out since Tuesday.

Calm down now. Korean version supposedly allready got May security patch so we're gonna get it any time now.
Also, LG doesn't do "small" OS upgrades so no, we're probably not gonna get 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 but we will definitely be the first ones to be getting Android O which is right around the corner. That's how LG rolls.
