Lollipop Bench Results and mini Review - Shield Tablet General

Hi everyone,
I just download the OTA of Lollipop on my Shield Tablet. Here the results of many benchs. Lollipop update work great, but has less options than Kitkat. Unfortunately, Power management disappear. I hope Nvidia reintegrated it later. I had a bug in Riptide GP2, the jet ski leans to the left , you can not recalibrate. Wifi seem to be stronger than KitKat.
Edit : Power management Shield found, it's hidden in battery menu, bouton option=>Power management Shield. But it's much less complete than Kitkat(No framelimite, no personnal profil)
Edit 2 : Orientation Fixed after a calibration with Gps status & toolbox.

32 Gb version seems to have better scores

Faster 32Gb emmc memory than the Wifi version!

The old power management options are still there, but are even more hidden than the ones you found.
Create a Settings Shortcut widget, choose Power saving, and you'll find all the old options there under Shield power control.

Lte version with Lollipop.

Shield 16Go Wifi, no root, no tweak, CPU set to Nvidia Optimized mode. Pcmark result :

Same test with CPU set to max performance :

I think it's hidden for some reason. A no power-user can't find this. Hope this option come back in settings in next update.
Thanks everyone for your report

Turbo Speed ROM 2 - [ SpeedBooster 2 New High Score = 6.7 by toader ]

This is a new thread with the same goal as my previous performance thread ' Turbo Speed X1 ', to tweak and speed up the performance of ROM 2.
I have a silver X1i with a 16gb SanDisk Micro SD ( Class 2 ), and I have just upgraded to ROM2 through the official update facility provided by Sony Ericsson, on the UK o2 network.
First impressions of ROM 2 are very positive, subjectively speaking. However I am going to be using Benchmarks to test and demonstrate any quantitative improvements. I am going to be using Spb Benchmark, widely regarded and well respected, avaliable free from the Spb Website.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/benchmark/
I will also include the results of SKTools5, we are all aware that results can fluctuate from run to run, but most people have this tool and it is quick to run, and can measure Memory Card Read and write speeds.
Tweak 1 - Cache Settings
These are the defualt settings that come with ROM 2, they should be the same for everyone who has upgraded, so we all start from the same level. They are captured and changed using Advanced Configeration Tools, posted below.
View attachment 175679
At first sight these settings are very similar to the defualt settings that came with ROM 1. So I changed them to settings that I found worked well with ROM1, they are as follows.
View attachment 175678.
Here are the defualt cache settings and new cache settings I have tested side by side for easy reference.
View attachment 175682
SPB Benchmark Results
First the results with Spb Benchmark, defualt on the left, new settings on the right. Green indicates faster results, red indicates slower results.
View attachment 175676
Observations from Spb
1) The majority of the tests showed a speed improvement with the New Settings.
2) Test 4 shows a 20% increase in speed, and Test 6 showed a 9% increase in speed, in my opinion both results are outside natural variation.
3) The two results that were marginally slower for the new settings were less than 3% slower which I would consider to be within natural variation.
Conclusions from Spb
The results indicate a speed improvement with the new settings, a 20% increase is significant.
SKTools Benchmark Results
View attachment 175677
Observations
There is significantly more variation with SKTools, the one result which stands out is SD Read Speed which shows consistantly up to 3 X Faster, with the New Cache settings.
Conclusions
A result of 3 X faster consistantly, run after run, cannot be explained away by natural variation. This is a very good positive result.
Overall
I am pleased with the first stage of tweaking ROM 2, it seems to respond in a similar if not slightly less dramatic way that ROM 1, but still increases of 20 % and upto 300% ( 3 X Faster ) for some things is still a good days work and well worth implimenting.
I welcome all contributions on this thread from Junior and Senior members alike, on tweaking, benchmarking the performance of ROM 2. This thread is not about me, or my personality, or what I had for breakfast. This thread is about improving the performance and experience of the X1, it is for all those who...
" feel the need...for speed. "
Player Slayer
Sometimes on this thread I may go off on a tangent into uncharted waters. I did it a few times on Turbo Speed X1 and got some good results, just by experimenting and playing around. Some Discoveries on ROM1 were :
Cluster Size increasing SD speed ( Cluster Buster ).
Ticking [Show All files] in File Explorer slowing performance down.
Having [autobacklight on] increasing performance.
Im not going to go over old ground, but I have gone off on a tangent this morning and discovered a new tweak and performance increase, which I will call ' Player Slayer '
I am going to set some simple ground rules for my contributions. First of all 90 % of the time, subjective tweaks and improvements are how my discoveries are made, how my phone feels, or by 'using the force'. This is all very well and good on a personal level but difficult to communicate on a thread like this, so I set a simple principle for my posts.
" If we cant measure it...we cant treasure it "
Also on Benchmarks I set the following guidelines to assess differences in results, before and after a tweak.
Less than 3% - Natural Variation - Insignificant.
Between 3 and 5 % - May prove interesting.
Between 5 and 10% - Definetely worth investigating.
Above 10 % - Probably a bonifide tweak or effect.
Above 15 % - Definetely a tweak.
Above 50 % - Break out the champagne.
Tweak 2 - ' Player Slayer '
On to this mornings foray into the unknown...the WM Twilight zone, inspired by the effect of [ Show all Files] in File explorer, I began to think about Media Player. Like File Explorer it is Microsoft and its functions are heavily embeded in the operating system.
On the Media Library screen, under menu, there is an option called ' Update Library ', see screen shots below. If you run this, Media Player performs an inventory of all the files on your X1 and your memory card and adds any media files to the Library.
View attachment 175822
If it finds files on your memory card it adds some system folders and files to your memory card, see below. Visible only if you Click [Show All Files] in file explorer.
View attachment 175821
The WMDRM folder is most interesting, no one knows what it is, and the file inside it is called ' 438F6A10A8D......'
To test the effect of the performing the inventory and the addition of the system files to memory card I did an experiment.
Procedure
1) I took the stock 4GB SanDisk memory card and formated it, using Storage Tools, so it was completely blank and wiped clean, I then ran the Spb Bench and the SkTools bench to get some defualt results.
2) I then went to Media Player and performed the 'Update Libarary' inventory.
3) I then ran the benchmarks again
Results from Spb
View attachment 175830
Green indicates faster, red indicates slower. On Spb bench the lower the value the faster the result, and only results that differ more than 5% have been highlighted.
Observations
Test 4 showed an 18% increase in speed, which by my own rule of thumb I consider to be very significant.
Results from SKTools
View attachment 175829
Observations
Again Green faster, red slower. On SKTools, the higher the values the faster the performance.
Main Storage Write Speed 8% faster.
Main Sorage Read Speed 11 % faster.
Conclusions
We have new tweak on our hands, ' Player Slayer '. If you dont use Media Player to play your Music and Video files you may never have done the Update Library Inventory, its not automatic, so its worth doing.
Explanations
I would theorise that performing a system wide file inventory allows the operating system to operate more efficiently, in laymans terms, once it knows whats there it can use it faster.
If members have a more scientific explanation for this effect please post them, I class this as classic case of WM eccentricity and part of what makes it such a fascinating operating system, like the wrinkles that add character to the face.
PS - Oh yeh and if you discover a new tweak, above 10%, you have have to give it a catchy ryhming name , and remember...
" A glass of Champaign a day...keeps the iphone at bay. "

Perhaps I should have been posting here!
What version of SPB tools do you have/use?
Des. . .
I used SKTools5 posted below, but I trust Spb Bench more results wise, but like ya said how your phone feels at the end of the day is what matters.
If you've updated to ROM 2 through Sony, did you remeber to format your Memory card as well, becuase in the post above, I described how WM places hidden system files on your X1. These system files, including Programs Folder are all designed for ROM 1, and if your running ROM 2 some of the programs could get confused.
My advice to back up on your PC all your personal data, music, films, software cab files etc from your memory card onto your PC and do a format of the memory card with the following Storage Tools. Under Fomat, click back-up FAT and choose 64 kb Cluster size which is the fastest.
Better still if you have time, do a hard reset, format your memory card and build your phone up again from scratch. Everyime you install some software , play with your phone a bit to see if it has any adverse affects. You should be able to find the offending program.
Do this then post back and tell how it feels, or show some results.
Hi,
Might just do a complete reset and take it from there.
I did format the card - on the PC but copied all the files from it and back to it after the format!
Will let you know how it goes.... Ta..

CTC Network - I was curious that you tried the SKTools Optimize Tweak and the tnyynt Tune up tweak on ROM 2 with no effect, so I tried them self. These are two tweaks which worked well with ROM 1, but like you , from the results I have benchmarked they show no significant performance increase.
Optimise Tweak using SKTools.
Here are the Spb results, before Optimise on the left, and after Optimise on the right.
View attachment 176431
Here are SKTools results, again before Optimise on the left, and after Optimise on the right.
View attachment 176432
I also tested the tnyynt Tune-up cab which you mentioned also.
tnyynt SD tune up tweak
Here are the Spb results, before on the left, after on the right.
View attachment 176434
Here are the SKTools results, before on the left, after on the right.
View attachment 176433
Conclusions as you can see, judging just on these two benchmarks alone, like you I found both the Optimize tweak and the SD tune up have no discernable benefit for ROM 2, and like you I am now doing a hard reset to build my phone up again from scratch.
The only two tweaks for ROM 2 that work so far, in my opinion, are to change cache settings as described earlier, and the new Player Slayer, described earlier.
Oh well, some days you eat honey, some days you eat straw.
Personal Comment
I have to say I am pleased with ROM 2, having just done a hard reset, and applied the two tweaks on this thread I am struggling to find anything worng with ROM 2, unlike ROM 1 I haven't found any areas where it is slow and lagging. The fact that some tweaks are not working like they did for ROM 1 is a good sign. If my X1 had performed like this when I first took it out of the box, I dont think I ever would have started Turbo Speed X1 thread. They just doesnt seem to be much slack in the system to improve, but I will keep looking just in case. In comparisons it is unfair to compare the X1 with other phones, but we can compare ROM 1 with ROM 2 and ROM 2 seems to be much better all round.
If any members are having performance issues and problems with ROM 2 please post them, becuase to be honest I dont have any problems with it. Good job Sony
Hi,
I have the SK file dumped on the phone so will post that later, however, what I did notice when checking through all the SK results on the benchmark was that the memory read speeds were near abysmal compared to the stock results that were listed.
I also notice that I seem to be using a larger chunk of memory with task manager regularly reporting 32% to 36% or memory in use. That is about 3% higher than I noticed before on the ROM one.
So perhaps SE have sacrificed some performance for either battery life or stability?
My main concern, GPS and using TT7, does appear to have passed as I nearly always get a fix within 20 seconds.
TT7 doesn't run as smoothly as it used to though and there appears to be a noticeable lag in where I am compared to where TT7 thinks I am.
Or I'm driving to fast!!
Will be watch ing this topic with interest.
Des. . .
I see you have a new thread.

it is fast and has a compare with other devices function, showing a chart. neat!

Quote from Groundzer0 on Turbo Speed X1......." Hi Mark A Cilenti,
funny you ask me that since I got the program based on your recommandation in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=337
The program is Speedbooster, and you said it made your device faster.
The download is the link you posted previously:
http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=speedbooster
The only thing I don't understand is that you said you've changed the priorities of several exe files, but on their website they recommand using only 1-2 boosted tasks at a time:
http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?s...ster#practices
Maybe the difference is that your tasks are not all running at a time.
Anyway, this is a newer version, I'm using it after I read your posts here, and I can say that makes my GPS software go WOWW!! So I also recommand it.
And the good thing is that they have some weird contest on their forums, and are giving away free licenses (I guess it's some kind of promotion), check this too:
http://teksoftco.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2011
You could post this to your first page, since it seems a good tool and does speed up considerably. "

Groundzer0 - Brilliant I am so pleased you decided to post Speedbooster 2, I was playing with the older version the other day I had no idea a new version was out, Iv bought a license and here is my first Benchmark with nothing boosted, just the tweaks posted here on Turbo Speed Rom 2.

The benchmark is also brilliant, clear, easy, quick and an overall score, this is the best race track weve ever had.

Groundzer0 im sure you can do better than 6.0 , have you applied the 2 tweaks posted above ?
I will keep a current highscore with the name of any member who posts results on the thread title.

I'm about to try your other tweaks as well. Thanks for this - you rock!
Hi,
Well, I am surprised. With only a few tweaks set (as defined by you, Mark) and having completed my re-install (including a reinstall of the re-install of TT7!) I managed the following results as attached...
Is this good??
Score: 6.38
CPU: 7.79
RAM: 7.11
Storage: 5.76
Video: 4.85
Des. . .
Good result, its about the same as mine, if your repeat the benchmark and disable all today Screen Plug-ins and turn phone and wifi off, you should get 6.45, although apart from once I have nt managed to get it again. I am now going to use SpeedBoost 2 to boost system processes, ( filesys, cprog, device, gwes, shell32, services etc ) found under Processes in SpeedBoost 2, I hope to get close to 7.
By the way whats TT7, is it a tweak ?
And what are your cache settings ?

TT7 = TomTom 7
And cache setting, I believe were the same as you detailed above..
Something that maybe worth playing about with, I think.
Ultimately though, tweaking one thing or another to benefit one performance measure will lose out on another.
Given my phone seems to be performing pretty much similarly to yours I can surmise that the phone is Ok and performing as should be.
Maybe it will be time to try a different ROM one day!
Will see what other settings get and what results are achieved.
I know that using SE panel 1 gives a hit on memory, but perhaps not on performance. Might be different for the other panels?

Devil may Cry - 6.66 Points!
Ethermind, care to share how you achieved such excellent results? I can only get around 6.30, but not on a freshly installed rom.
it is on not very fresh, but cleaned up ( down to 100mb ) ROM
i just use adv config tool
> perfomance
cache - on
cache of fs - 8 mb
filter of fs cache - 32768 sect
cache of fonts - 64 kb
also i used tyyntSD, but not sure is active : )
BTW first time it was just 6.50, then 6.66 and then 6.48
6.66 is the best : )
i think random component is present : )
Ethermind that looks like an excellent result, your sktools results are interesting, they are not ROM1 or ROM2, i think you are runnning a custom ROM, and its a hot rod. Your name goes on the scoreboard anyway, even if you have a rear difuser ha ha, respect.
i just deleted from ROM2 some apps (windows live, getting started, some panels), replace x1 calculator on htc calculator, replace picas of dialer etc.
so i think it can not affect prefomance : )
Ethermind I agree with what you said, if we continue with the car analogy, a stripped out car, shedding weight will increase performance. I only install whats absolutely necesary and when im ' racing ' I have a stripped out Today Screen. Apps and plugins are like air con, sat nav, stereo and electric windows, they will weigh you down when racing.
This is my stripped down Today screen for race mode.

A Clock, bluetooth, wifi and phone toggle with programs and settings at the moment, at the end of the day this is all you really need. HomeSCreen ++ does all that. I wonder if I can shed some more weight
if so, then we must awaiting better result from lite rom user's : )

For understanding more, I did the calc how much volts the different vsels really yield (based on $auron's formula )
vsel
60 = 1,35V (default for 1Ghz)
65 = 1,4125V
67 = 1,4375V
70 = 1,475V

Well I have some strange issues with that too. Before updating to RC4 it would always be ok to use FileExpert in root mode to edit the file. But now, that leads to error when saving, ie no rights.
I have to go into FileManager or what the other thing is called (also root capable), rename the cpugovernor to cpugovernor.txt, edit it, then I can save. Then rename it, (re)start CPUGovernor: then the settings DO take succesfully.
Archos 70it.
I have tried 1.6rc4 both with 1.6b1 kernelocuv and with 1.6rc4 at 60& 1100000.
Both were stable and fast. I may prefer the first one.
Are there any advantages- disadvantages to either of them?

Well yes - second on is better You can do ALL what was done in OCUV (just rewrite cpu table) in RC5+ - but you may disable it with few clicks and test configuration that suits you best.
ps. I've added link to this thread in manual for overclocking.
ps2. Free "root capable" file explorer is FileExpert (default file manager since UrukDroid 1.5) - you just need to enable this feature in it's configuration menu.
@$aur0n
I have installed UrukDroid 1.6.4 and wanted to overclock the Archos 101 with the help of you manual.
My current cpugovernor stats output:
Code:
Uruk-CPUGovernor statistics:
Current governor: interactive
Overclock module: Enabled
Current max vsel: 66
Current max rate: 1000000
CPU Max: 1000000
CPU Min: 300000
Available frequencies: 1000000 800000 600000 300000
CPU statistics (tick spend in every frequency range):
1 GHz had 17458 ticks (8.18%)
800 MHz had 20275 ticks (9.50%)
600 MHz had 31112 ticks (14.58%)
300 MHz had 144634 ticks (67.75%)
Then I try to manualy set the vsel and rate with:
Code:
echo 66 > /proc/overclock/max_vsel
echo 1000000 > /proc/overclock/max_rate
and whatever numbers I set, the Archos reboots instantly. I even tried setting max_rate to 900000 and it also rebooted!?
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Edit:
I did the rest in your manual and set the right memory addresses... damn, I thought these are automatically set - it seems they could be. Now lets try to set the real max
Edit2:
OC = 1.1Ghz ; Max_vsel=68 == Enough for me.
I have just installed Urukdroid 1.6 on my Gen8 A101T.
Sorry to be a bit thick, but how to I know test how much it can be overclocked?

Welcome to the Unofficial Boeffla Kernel App Profile Sharing Thread
Introduction
This idea was tossed around in the Boeffla Sammy Kernel thread so I decided to make one here in the General Section so that questions regarding user profiles would not clutter up the main thread.
If you want to share a profile, just upload it to your host site so that other users can grab it
For those that want to implement other user profiles to their device, simply grab the .bcprofile profile and place it in the boeffla-kernel-data directory in your internal storage and then open the Boeffla Config app and load the profile in the upper right corner of the screen.
oh, and one last thing..please remember that the Galaxy S3 is a diva and will not behave in the same manner for everybody..we all have our own unique usage patterns, so dont expect that one profile will be as effective on one device as the other..you may always tweak a profile once you download it so that it will fit your preference
=============================================================================================================================================
Read posts #2 and #6 for explanations on some configurations and settings.
All shared profiles are listed at post #3 while activation procedure is at post #4
For kernel updates and download head over to Official Boeffla-Kernel website.
For discussions regarding development, and we mean DEVLOPMENT ONLY, head over to the Boeffla Sammy Kernel thread, and Boeffla CM11.0/Omni/CM10.x thread.
All credits goes to @Lord Boeffla for an amazing kernel. :good:
**Fan teaser created by mateepunkt !**

First things first:
For those asking what config is best for which rom, THERE ARE NONE. All configs shared here are cross compatible with all roms. Ok, not all, since they are bracketed into Touchwiz and AOSP configs, but you get the idea. For all first timers, please try out Archi's and Lord Boeffla's and metalgearhathaway's configs first. I've been saying that for quite some time now. You can also use those profiles as basis for your own, which you can in turn share with everyone else.

For a comprehensive guide on all things that can be tweaked in a kernel, please read up on the following write-up by @gsstudios :
Some of the governors and schedulers and other kernel features are not implemented by @Lord Boeffla on his kernel, so just read up on those that are included in the Boeffla Kernel.

Thank you for your reply, and I have to say that I have to ask you a couple of things because you know the poor situation I'm in.
First of all, what does it happen if I uninstall the samsung push service? What I will not have any more?
What happens if I greenify to hibernate google play services as you say? Same question as above... Does it still receive Play Store automatic updates?
My connection is not the most perfect of ever as I continually switch between 3G and 2G due to my provider. Can't do anything about that. In such a way, I can say that I always have signal, wherever I go. Then, I have to say that I use a lot my device for internet, and in 2G it's toooo slow for use, I tried, especially because my provider is an H3G provider that users 3G a lot. Here in Italy using 2G connections it's some kind of bad for internet. Some provider do, bit Theo are quite slower. Maybe battery drawning for this it's the price to pay. I'll anyway put an eye to the app you say and see what it does, tnx!
My screen is always at minimum bright, and often use ScreenFilter to 40%, so I would not consider that too much, no?
About lockscreen effect - water droplet and all the sounds, well the water drop sound is off, and about the other like key pad it's also off. But I have to say that I keep my phone quite constantly in vibration mode, so dunno if sounds events are called anyway if active.
The only one it's active it's touch keys vibration because I like to feel that!
The water drop at lock screen is there, and the reason is that I have a Samsung phone and I like that unlock method. You say that it drains a lot of battery?? I should really change that?
Maybe I should first of all put my hands on the processes that run in background and in the kernel settings.
I am with PegasusQ battery, row with 512 on internal sdcard, cfq with 1024 on extsdcard, AFTR-LPA Aggressive, no cpu OC/UC, no cpu UV, some gpu freqs lowered at low steps, but still the same at high steps so to have stock freqs in games, some general gpu UV, screen touch boost at 600, Boeffla sound with all active minus the Mono output, Frandom tweaks, 4 zRam at 200 with 80%, stock LMK, no logging.
Hope to have said all.
Should I look at you second post I quoted down here for the file you linked and freeze/uninstall most off the apps listed there, and then greenify most of the remaining, keeping an eye on the system ones like you did??

1/ samsung push: nothing happens if you dont use any samsung apps like chatOn. opne play store and search for samsung push service -> read the description and you will see -> reduce a lot of wakelocks according to your BBS
2/ Greenify play store: you may lose autoupdate but they will be triggered again when play service is activated -> you dont lose any update but it is slower than normal. I recommend you to turn off autoupdate in playstore settings and update apps manually. Autoupdate is reported to consume Ram and battery -> this will reduce a lot of wakelocks (A LOT)
google play service was updated to v4.1 and claimed to save a lot of battery. I dont care, I turned it off
3/ Only use 3G when you need to surf the web. Use 2G when you put your phone in the pocket or only when you use IM chat apps like viber and whatsapp. Im fine with these
also try intelli3G. I have never used it but I think it helps
4/ using lowest brightness is very good. Use autobrightness at the lowest level in outdoor conditions
5/ DONT USE PegasusQ with AFTR+LPA -> your phone cant reach deepsleep state
If Im not mistaken, I read this from somewhere that if you use AFTR+LPA, your phone can only go to deepsleep only when there is 1 core running. If there are 2 cores running, it prevents your phone to go to deepsleep
usually, pegasusQ keeps 2 cores running and maybe switches off 1 core after a period of time (I dont know when) -> goes against AFTR+LPA
pegasusQ battery saving & pegasusQplus battery (maybe there are some more but I dont remember) are the only governors that switch off the 2nd core quite fast so if you use these, it's fine but in general, I dont recommend to use pegasus with AFTR+LPA
I use zzmoove yank battery extreme instead. If I wanna play games, I use pegasusQ battery
with exactly the same configurations, PegasusQ battery seems to be slower and makes my phone hotter than zzmoove yank battery (dont know why). It got 44*C, never happens with zzmoove. Both are set at 1.2ghz, same GPU, same UV
I monitored the behaviours of these. However, because the overheat, I cannot go with pegasusQ battery
6/ turn off all sounds and effects and see how it goes. In the older versions of touchwiz, they are reported as the culprit of using too much ram and causes too many wakelocks. I dont know sammy do fix this or not because I always turn them off from the beginning
I dont recommend using CFQ with extSdCard because according to a credible source - thanks droidphile:
it might causes problems with mediascanner. I prefer SIO and ZEN. In fact, changing these in the extsdcard doesnt bring noticeable difference, quite minor in my experience because we dont always use sdcard and the speed of this is limited. You may see noticeable improvement with internal storage
7/ you should consider the list of frozen apps. you will have more free ram because useless apps are removed. They wont consume ram and battery and cause wakelocks.
if you have a look at my screenshots, you can see, AndroidOS only took 4% -> I was surprised also, couldnt believe that. I only have ~2 minutes of wakelock in 11 hours of deepsleep. I use facebook + fb messenger + viber, they cause wakelocks. I dont greenify them
I dont dont know. there should be soneone who has time and do a lot of benchmark tests to conclude. IMO row is very very fast but writting speed is slower than the others (read over write) and battery might be a bit worse. ZEN I have no idea but it is fast and works well. Andi said it saves some battery so I use ZEN. I dont have time to test. negligible difference because s3 is a flagship. It is easier to conclude in a cheap phone
try zzmoove. Pegasusq battery mostly uses 1 core so it would cause some delay. check your battery, maybe it gets bigger => not good => considered to be replaced. If it is bigger, input current is not enough to keep phone working (quite similar to undervolt) => stucked
moreover, maybe your free ram is too low that makes it slow. increase empty app to 110 or 128. change content provider to 100

Why can't you activate a downloaded profile?:
Lord Boeffla said:
Guys, this is always the same: If this message comes up, the file which should be imported does not have the correct format.
This can happen when a download is incomplete, when browsers think they need to modify the file in any way, when there is any other corruption etc etc.
In order to check if a file looks alright, open it on a PC and check if it has:
- At the start of the file the sequence {"data":{
- At the end of the file the sequence }}
- There must be no line breaks at all in the file
It is nothing else than a JSON file, so you can open it in any text editor to see what is in.

ASV Level Explained:
Lord Boeffla said:
Samsung bins their chips according the ASV level, which can be thought of as the "quality" of the chip. The higher the ASV number, the better the chip, and the less power it needs to do its job. At the factory they mix increased gate voltages with varying body voltages to end up with a table of stock body biases. Long story short, this is how they deal with less-than-perfect chips. It's a lottery for the buyer. But since their values aren't tailored to your chip - the hope is that maybe you can scrape by with a bit less power than Samsung thought a chip of that grade could.
So in short: It tells you about which voltages will be used by your Exynos processor. Good ones can run with lower voltages, worse ones need higher voltages.
The asv level is used to look up the voltage table during bootup and initialisation phase.

Low Memory Killer Explained:
Papa Smurf151 said:
Explanation of LMK Settings (Low Memory Killer)
and
Explanation of Adj and Minfree settings
When your phone boots up, a file inside the boot image (init.rc) sets the system parameters. Things like the path to framework files, setting up your networks, and setting the limits at which programs are killed off to free RAM are done by this file. Now a super-Android-geek might dig inside the init.rc file and completely customize the low memory killer, but you don't have to do this to still get good results. The init.rc sets up six different "levels" of open applications. Let's have a look at them:
FOREGROUND_APP: This is the application currently on the screen, and running
VISIBLE_APP: This is an application that is open, and running in the background because it's still doing something
SECONDARY_SERVER: This is a process (a service that an application needs) that is alive and ready in case it's needed to do something
HIDDEN_APP: This again is a process, that sits idle (but still alive) in case it's needed by an app that's alive and running
For the most part, we never want to adjust when these apps and processes are killed off. They are the things that the programs we use need to properly function. For the more bold and advanced users, changing settings for HIDDEN_APP settings is possible, albeit with a LOT of trial and error. There's two more settings, and these are the ones most interesting to us today:
CONTENT_PROVIDER: This is apps that provide data (content) to the system. HTC Facebook Sync? That's a CONTENT_PROVIDER. So are things like the Android Market, or Fring. If they are alive, they can refresh and provide the content they are supposed to at the set interval. If you kill them, they can't of course.
EMPTY_APP: I call these "ghosts." They are apps that you have opened, but are done with them. Android uses a unique style of handling memory management. When an activity is ended, instead of killing it off Android keeps the application in memory so that opening them again is a faster process. Theses "ghost" apps use no battery or CPU time, they just fill RAM that would be otherwise empty. When this memory is needed by a different application or process, the RAM is flushed and made available for the new app. To satisfy the geekier people (like myself) Android does this by keeping a list of recently used apps, with the oldest apps in the list given the lowest priority -- they are killed first if RAM is needed elsewhere. This is a perfect way to handle 'ghost' processes, so there's no need to touch this part
So when you see settings like this 8,14,40,50,60, 75 you start with the first setting and it looks like this
FOREGROUND_APP = 8
VISIBLE_APP = 14
SECONDARY_SERVER = 40
HIDDEN_APP = 50
CONTENT_PROVIDER = 60
EMPTY_APP = 75
You can manipulate these numbers so that they are better managed and give You different aggressiveness and a faster UI
For the Smurfed Out script the settings are as follows
Lite = 8,14,55,70,85,100
Medium = 8,14,75,90,95,125
Max = 25,35,55,70,150,250
Extreme = 25,35,75,90,150,250
Minfrees are set as well but they are equal to the LowMemoryKiller ADJ settings.
I personally run them at Max while using ICS but everyone's experiences will be different.

ZRam Explained:
-CALIBAN666- said:
Once a brief statement for those who are not traveling so long in the Android scene:
ZRAM = ramzswap = Compcache
In order to explain more precisely ZRAM first need other terms are more clearly defined:
Swap can be compared with the swap file on Windows. If the memory (RAM) to complete the PC the data that are being used not actively outsource (eg background applications) so as to re-evacuate RAM free. To this data is written to a hard disk. If required, this data is then read back from there easily. Even the fastest SSD is slower than the RAM. On Android, there is no swap!
In ZRAM unnecessary storage resources are compressed and then moved to a reserved area in the fixed RAM (ZRAM). So a kind of swap in memory.
This Ram is more free because the data then only about 1/4 of the former storage requirements have. However, the CPU has to work in more because they compress the data has (or unpack again when they are needed). The advantage clearly lies in the speed. Since the swap partition in RAM is much faster than this is a swap partition on a hard drive.
In itself a great thing. But Android does not have a swap partition, and therefore brings Android ZRAM under no performance gain as would be the case with a normal PC.
In normal PC would look like this:
Swap = swap file (on disk) -> Slow
ZRAM (swap in RAM) -> Faster than swap
RAM -> Quick
With Android, there is no swap partition, and therefore brings ZRAM also no performance boost.
The only thing that brings ZRAM is "more" RAM. Compressed by the "enlarged" so to speak of the available memory. That's on devices with little RAM (<256MB) also pretty useful. The S2 has 1GB but the rich, and more than. There must not be artificially pushed up to 1.5 GB.
After you activate the ZRAM also has 2 disadvantages. The encoding and decoding using CPU time, which in turn has higher power consumption.
Roughly one can say (For devices with more than 512MB RAM):
Without ZRAM: + CPU Performance | + Battery | RAM
With ZRAM: CPU Performance |-Battery | + RAM
For devices with too little RAM so it makes perfect sense. But who shoots the S2 already be fully complete RAM and then still need more?
Check whether you can ZRAM runs in the terminal with
free or cat / proc / meminfo
I hope it helps to understand zRam!!!!

A Few Things To Remember:
-When playing around with CPU/GPU profiles, remember to reset the values first before applying another profiles. This sometimes causes the profiles to not be set properly. You can do so by pressing the reset button beside the profile selection drop down box.
-Also, when playing around with the voltage table, remember to also reset the values of the voltage table first. This is causes a lot of voltage tables to not be set properly because when you try to switch from a table to another, the table from the previous profile sticks. Keep in mind also that undervolting too much will cause not only lags but also random reboots. If you want to undervolt, do so step by step, dont just jump straight to -100 and expect the device to still be as stable as before. Keep in mind also that the chips in our S3's are different from one another, as stated in the ASV Level explanation above, so not all voltage tables in shared profiles will be as effective on all other devices.
-When adjusting LMK settings, you have to be aware of how you use your phone i.e. how much multitasking you do, games, music, etc. There is a big difference sometimes also in roms where there are an abundance of memory tweaks in the init.d folder or however the rom developer implements his memory tweaks. That also comes into play with regards to memory management. For example, in CM11, I always have above 300+mb free of RAM when idle, while only having 200+/- mb free when running Sammy based.
-ZRam is not for everybody. There are users who report that ZRam sometimes causes freezes and lag [including me], and has been widely a cause for much discussion. As Lord Boeffla has always said, if you're not a heavy multitasker, dont use it.
-It is not advisable to use a Sammy kernel profile on CM or Omni, and vise versa. There is a reason why Lord Boeffla created spearate threads for his kernels, since there is a ton of difference in the code and configuration implementation between them. As stated by him, "If you are on CM or Omnirom kernel, reset your undervolting for CPU and GPU + reset your LMK settings as they might not apply for your S3 (my profile was taken from Samsung kernel !!!)".

The Great Undervolt Debate
Raphy511 said:
Hello,
I am not sure that undervolting can increase battery life. I even think it's the opposite effect
Demonstration :
Increasing battery battery life means using less power.
Power (P) is : P=U(voltage) x I (Intensity)
Most energy used by processors is converted in heating. It is like a resistance.
Voltage for a resistance is U = R x I. (ohm)
So Power used by the processor is P = U * I = R * I * I = R x I^2
So to reduce energy consumption, we have to reduce P. We cannot change R, so we should decrease Intensity.
Power used by processor cannot be change. So if we undervolt, intensity is increasing so the processors heats more and it is the opposite effect.
So why undervolt?

P is NOT CONSTANT.
R is semi-constant (semiconductors are weird, so can be nonlinear), gate capacitance C is constant.
If you lower V, you lower I, and thus, you lower P=V*I
That's the whole point of reducing V...
In general, UV is best for, on most devices, 3-5% reduction in CPU core power consumption before you hit stability limits. For general day-to-day use this results in less than a fraction of a percent of total system consumption being saved, but can matter if you're a heavy gamer, giving you more headroom before hitting thermal throttling and consuming less power.

I or current does not exist as a constant in transistors. Semiconductor physics are different from normal macro-electronics. The same principles still apply but they are meaningless as their magnitude are lowered to nothingness.
Main power dissipation and power consumption is caused by dynamic leakage on the transistor gate while it is switching. Secondary power consumer is static leakage caused between gate and the body.
The usual simplified formula for CMOS transistors is expressed as
Power = Voltage² x Frequency x Capacitance
or
P = V² x f x C
That's basically it in very simplified terms. And as ewdinpang said, lowering voltage has a squared power decrease in the dynamic leakage power. This has been measured and proven, from myself included.
The full expanded forumula is here:
This is a nonsensical argument, temperature aka heat, is power. If you are getting a less heated phone, then your battery life is improving. If this wouldn't be the case then you are holding the solution to the world's energy problems in your hands.

[GUIDE] Make your Moto G 2014 experience smoother (60fps animations!)

A smoother Moto G 2014 Experience
Now featuring 60 fps animations!
The goal of this guide is to give your Moto G 2014 a bit of a smooth boost without impacting battery or real time performance. What does that mean? Well, getting 60fps animations in most ROMs is just a nightmare after installing a few apps and having some running in the background constantly. We're going to see how it's possible to have better transitions and animations without having an impact on battery life. It makes your phone perform like one of those high-end processors like the Snapdragon 810 or most Exynos processors. (lel MediaTek come on). It really makes you see all the different animations in Lollipop and it's definitely a must for me now after I tinkered a bit.
The only downside is some apps refreshing when multi-tasking. I mean, the device has 1GB of RAM. What can you expect out of this little guy ^.^
What you'll need?
- An AOSP ROM. No Stock/CM12.1
Why? Stock sucks. CM12.1 is bloated with features nobody uses and takes up too much RAM. It tends to lag more as well. AOSP has everything you need with the performance increase. If you miss CM12.1, install Paranoid Android Legacy ROM. It includes every useful CM12.1 feature in AOSP. If you lack the customization, Xposed Framework with GravityBox module can do everything you desire.
- A good kernel
I used Optimus Kernel R6. My personal recommendations are Optimus Kernel, Spirit Kernel and Halogen Kernel.
- The Kernel Adiutor app
Get from the Play Store. It's hands down the best looking and feature bloated kernel management app ever.
- Rooted device
Must have for tweaking.
- The Terminal Emulator app
We're going to need this for tweaking the scripts.
- L SPEED v2.2 REVOLUTION by Paget96
This is the core mod. It makes your device faster while fixing some of Android's bugs and even makes your battery last longer!
You can find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/tweak-l-speed-v1-0-02-02-2015-t3020138. Huge credit for Paget96, his tweak is awesome!
- TWRP or CWM recovery
To flash zips and stuffs.
Instructions :
1- You need to flash the L SPEED v2.2 REVOLUTION zip file provided in the download page here in your recovery of choice.
2- Reboot your device and go to the Terminal Emulator.

13- You're done!
13.5- I suggest you going to this topic as it contains a lot of battery life improvements that I personally use!
Here is a screenshot of my Stand-by time with these configs. : http://i.imgur.com/ohHOiJj.png (10% lost in 7h. Suggests 3 days of battery left on stand-by)
I hope you'll enjoy the performance boost without the battery life hit that most ROMs and Kernels do.
See you next time =D
EDIT : After using this, I felt the battery life was a bit lacking but after following some of Duck86's advices here, it vastly improved my battery life while maintaining performance so check his guide out. It's really worth it !

Technically yes, as far as I can see, it is a heavily customised AOSP. Should work fine, didn't tried it yet. I don't know if you'll be getting the same results as me (or better?). But it will help for sure ^^
Thanx for quick reply......i will flash euphoria latest build now( by sarath)...and fr sure i will flash optimus r6 by flashhhhhh......then will try ur mod nd report here!!!!

In your photo it is off. What should I do ?
Looking at the screenshots, I would guess your are canadian or french, if it is the latter then let me point out that the stock ROM contains the EAP-SIM authentication method for WI-FI networks which are widely used in France. It essentially allows you to connect to your carriers WI-FI hotspots without manually entering a username and password (they are stored and communicated by the SIM card). This feature is present on NO AOSP/CM based ROM and only on stock based ROMs, it is an extremely usefull feature that made me stay on stock (even thought I regularly test other ROMs only temporarly) and let me tell you Stock based ROMs fly with super fast animations, and when you install a cutsom Kernel I would go as far as saying that they are the fastest ROMs out there
Should these work on titan prime?,even it being stock it has some drastic RAM improvements for exemple =p

It's actually a feature that I miss of Stock. EAP-SIM authentification for Free Mobile users is really useful. I've a second SIM card for unlimited data though so it's fine. I said Stock was bad because it runs off 5.0.2. If they update it to 5.1.1_r5, i'll gladly go back to stock. 5.0.2 was just a buggy, messy version overall that tried to fix Lollipop RAM issues without having real improvement.

I turned them off because I didn't see the point of a "blackscreen issue". For gaming mode, it uses more battery so I turned it off.

Titan Prime is based on stock 5.0.2. It should work but as I said, stock is on 5.0.2 so your results are going to be worse than mine.
You should try to do it when stock and Titan Prime updates to 5.1.1_r5.
Otherwise, I still recommend AOSP ROMs.
I cudnt find any diff by flashing this...but i need more battery...
For this it is not suitable cos it taking much juice fom my device....
But i fix it.....
Tune the governer to zzmove and some more spicey tuning around the optimus kernel....
Btw...thanx for the thread...i really liked it.....
Who want more performance than battery; it is perfect for them.....

I tried your recommended Kernel Tweaks, but I' having a wierd bug with my Music Player (Lantern) just stuttering for a fraction of a second when the screen is locked.
Dunno if anybody else has a Issue similar to mine, but it would be cool to know how to tackle this Problem.:angel:
I'm trying some other Music Players to see if it's only Lantern or just the Tweaks.
--Edit--
Just checked out some other Music Player Apps out: all the same some stutter less hard some seem to lliterally pause for a second.
Looks like it's definetely the Kernel Tweaks
