[STOCK FIRMWARE] Moto G 2nd gen (UK, "XT1068") *proper* SIM free firmware !GENUINE! - G 2014 General

[STOCK FIRMWARE] Moto G 2nd gen (UK, "XT1068") *proper* SIM free firmware !GENUINE!
I looked EVERYWHERE for a stock firmware for the UK, SIM free firmware for the Moto G 2nd generation... until last night, when some kind person on Motorola forums sent me this link:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/5uv51ahospp/RETGBALL_XT1068_4.4.4_KXB21.85-23_cid7_CFC.xml.zip
Filename: "RETGBALL_XT1068_4.4.4_KXB21.85-23_cid7_CFC.xml.zip"
MD5 sum: 81fc167157361e0620020b673beff9e4
Variant: XT1068, UK dual-SIM SIM free Moto G 2nd generation (RETGBALL = Retail GB, ALL)
Click the attached photo of my Moto G box - if the box matches yours (obviously IMEI etc have been deleted from the picture) then you have the right version.
Product barcode (8GB variant): 6947681519350 (Google it to verify - I have)
Model code: SM3926AE7B1
To flash, extract the linked ZIP, drop the (attached) "flashall.bat" batch file and "mfastboot.exe" (also attached) into the extracted folder, put your Moto G into "bootloader" mode, and then open the folder, shift-right-click and "Open command window here" (Windows) then run "flashall.bat" to reset to stock UK dual SIM XT1068 firmware.

I mean proper as in proper; the real deal - what else would it mean?
If you flashed dsd and still had retgb after doing so, your flash didn't work properly.

The thread is appropriately and accurately entitled, since the firmware linked to is the proper UK firmware, as it came pre-installed on THE ENGLISH XT1068. Since I do not work for Motorola, I am unable to affect the fact that the firmware is a step or two older in the build cycle than the USA/other versions, but the firmware is appropriate and correct for UK customer and owners of the UK Model Moto G (2nd gen) XT1068, DUAL SIM, GB RETAIL.
There's only so many ways one can explain the word "correct" - the firmware is fully functional and fit for purpose. It is entirely the correct version, and the only one I know of for the UK handsets, thus far.
OEMs don't arbitrarily decide to generate a region-specific firmware version just for the fun of it; there are various reasons (beyond the scope of this post) as to why they do it, and I am sure there are VERY good reasons to do so. What are they? I've no idea - and yes, I am sure other firmware will work perfectly well, but this IS the correct, UK firmware as detailed at length, above.
Hope that clarifies things

It's obviously for some reason(s). I don't find it weird at all; it's regionalisation, and there must be some region-specific functionality which differs between locales of sale, else they wouldn't do it for the sake of it - that would be extremely cost ineffective and inefficient.

Flashed last night. Works a treat, still have UK version reported on my phone and everything seems to be working. Now I should be able to receive OTA again once I replace a few modded system files. (Xposed installed and modified core.jar) :good: I had been looking for this firmware for sometime. This time I will not remove system apps or integrate updated system apps now that I know OTA will fail if the app version has changed.
Will we be able to get the Lollipop one once fully released for our device? (No OTA yet for me in UK).
Not sure that I will upgrade immediately as I use Xposed and that seems to not be compatible with lollipop

Which stock firmware is right?

I'm kinda new to all of this , and I just wanted to clarify which stock firmware I would use with my Moto G4 Plus.
Under hardware information, SKU, it is given that my phone is XT1643.
The Build number is given as MPJ24.139-23.1. (Bought this Moto G4 Plus in India)
According to my phone model number, the stock firmware would be either of these two:
(I can't post the links, so I'll just give the last part of the URL)
XT1641-XT1643_ATHENE_6.0.1_MPJ24.139-13.3_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
G4_XT1641-XT1643_ATHENE_6.0.1_MPJ24.139-13.1_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
but none of these match my build number.
According to my build number, it would be:
XT1626-XT1640-XT1641_ATHENE_6.0.1_MPJ24.139-23.1_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
but here it's not matching the XT1643.
So which one would be the correct stock firmware? Or is the one for my phone not there online yet? Thanks for any help in advance!

I am confused as well, we have XT1643 but it doesn't match in the filename. But I did flash this and got back everything to stock like I had before. If you flash the first two links that your posting, you wont get RIL. Use the 3rd link you were talking about(the non matching one). That should be our firmware actually.

I have bought mine unlocked and it is "retus". It has the MPJ 24.139-48 fw. Radio is M8952_70009.08.03.45R ATHENE_RETUSA_CUST.
If I check the update it says it's up-to-date.

yup but .9 is the latest. it has fixes for battery and the phone. i flashed it via fastboot on my XT6144 and it works great.
Well, the -49 (not 9) it's not to be found on Moto US website or OTA, it just appeared here like magic and the change log (supposedly) here. So I am not sure about it's provenience and that the fixes are not a placebo.
Anyway, I understand the "itch" to install it. Because I am so tempted myself
LE: Well, I did it. Flashed the MJP24.139-49 on my XT1644, I am restoring the apps now from backup.
Are these TWRP flashable or fastboot?
Yes, fastboot is avail after you unlock the bootloader on Motorola site (loosing the warranty).
I have booted into TWRP to root (SU systemless method), but didn't actually flash it (because I don't plan to switch to CM at this point).

I'm already on CM but there's the bug preventing me from receiving calls unless I turn off LTE. I'd prefer to not lose root and don't have access to a PC, so if I can wipe and flash this in TWRP, that would be perfect.
No, you can't, you need the standard recovery to get back to stock. Then you can root as I said.
As for CM13, I had used it (beta and after that nightlies) on one of my previous devices (Asus, based on Snapdragon 615, 64 bit, 3GB RAM)... but it was too unstable to use as a daily phone. Always something to be "fixed" and very often something else was breaking. Disappointed...
Security Patch Level
Can someone who has flashed the -49 build confirm what the security patch level is? Just wondering if it's the same update India and Europe received OTA.

Retail XT1625 still on MPJ24.139-48. Why haven't I received the new security patch?

Sorry for the stupid question. I have checked in the system settings for a new update but it says I'm on the latest patch. I've also heard that there may not even be a security patch available for the retail US XT1625 and it should still be on MPJ24.139-48, is that true?
I've checked the Motorola website and it seems there is an update that I don't have. I don't really know what I'm doing and I don't want to void my warranty by flashing a newer stock image, if that even does void it.
If there's anything I can do, I would appreciate the help. Thank you.

No, MPJ24.139-64 is the latest stock firmware. Not sure why you aren't getting it, unless you are on a custom recovery. That would prevent you from getting the update. I too have the XT1625 and I had to return my device to stock recovery before I received the update. There is a thread somewhere in the forum (might be in G4+) that tells you how.
However, if you are on full stock with no modifications then I have no idea why you aren't getting it.
I am indeed on full stock, I just bought this phone factory unlocked last week from a retail store and I really don't know why I haven't received an update for it. Is there any way that I can force it to update without unlocking the bootloader and just flashing the new stock image? I want to receive the Android 7.0 update when that comes out, but I would also like to update to the most recent build.
Can I sideload the OTA without voiding my warranty and also still get the Android N update when it becomes available? If so how?
If you have any answers I would greatly appreciate them.

If you are 100% certain the bootloader is still locked then the only thing I can suggest is to contact Motorola Customer Service and find out why it isn't updating. Or return to the store where you purchased it. But my phone downloaded the update even before I returned to stock recovery. I then saved it to my SDCard, returned to stock, and put the update back in the proper folder. When I rebooted it updated the normal way. Was it unopened when you bought it? Maybe the store did something to affect the update. Also, I am on the USA version and assume you are as well.
It is a USA version.
I already called Motorola customer service and they said that the Moto G4 receives updates in batches and that whether or not I receive the security update is based entirely on my carrier. I have Straight Talk AT&T. I've also tried it with a Sprint SIM card and it didn't update either.
When I brought it back to the store I purchased it from (Best Buy), they said that since it's an unlocked phone it will receive updates directly from Motorola, and it doesn't matter what carrier it's on.

Best Buy is correct. As far as Motorola Customer Service, the answer one gets from to any question depends on who you ask. I have never had to call them, but other users here on XDA have had a wide variety of results. Sometimes calling back and trying a different rep yields better results. Maybe clarifying your phone model/type and the fact you have an unlocked phone would help.
Other than that my friend, I am out of suggestions.
I'm also still on -48. Purchased from Costco.

From all the threads and surfing on different sites I have come to a conclusion that the MPJ24.139-63/64 updates is only for amazon variant , because on the official Motorola site the said update is only for amazon variant . And the latest for non-amazon is the MPJ24.139-48/49

Not sure why you came to that conclusion, but you are dead wrong. I do not have the Amazon variant and I received the update to MPJ24.139-64 via the normal update channel from Motorola. Also, here is a link to the Non-Amazon variant of the stock ROM (-64 version):

Furthermore, I have a copy of the -64 update blur file (non-Amazon variant) saved to my PC.
Any questions?
Can you share the blur file update?

Not sure why you came to that conclusion, but you are dead wrong. I do not have the Amazon variant and I received the update to MPJ24.139-64 via the normal update channel from Motorola. Also, here is a link to the Non-Amazon variant of the stock ROM (-64 version):
http://www.filefactory.com/file/3sqq...LT_CFC.xml.zip
Furthermore, I have a copy of the -64 update blur file (non-Amazon variant) saved to my PC.
Any questions?

Okay , but a lot of Moto G4 users are still on MPJ24.139-48 and not getting the update , especially the ones who are on MPJ24.139-49 . I have not read a single comment from a MPJ24.139-49 user that he/she got the july patch to MPJ24.139-63/64 .
There is a person on the official Lenovo Motorola forums where he wrote that he bought two devices from the same retailer and one of the devices got the update immediately to MPJ24.139-64 but the other one is still stuck on MPJ24.139-49 . Can you help me with that .
I have tried to install the blur files available on the forums but it gives the error because the update is for 139-48 users not 139-49 ones . I have also tried to install the Full Stock MPJ24.139-64 but still gives the " wrong footer " error .
Thanks !

I have no idea. All I know is that my XT1625 16 Gbyte USA version updated without any issues from -48 to -64 (back in October). The -49 version is a completely different animal (maybe the G4+) and I have no experience with it. You might check your Software Channel under Settings/About Phone and see which one you are on (I am on the retus Software Channel), but other than that I have no clue, unless the version hardware is different.
Again, you are talking apples and oranges when referring to the -49 version.

Hahahaha .....
Mine is also ( G4 )ATHENE XT1625 RETUS version , not ( G4+ ).
Available firmware versions for XT1625 are :
MPJ24.139-48
MPJ24.139-49 , and
MPJ24.139-64 . You can check on https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G4 (Plus)/Stock/
For some reason a some users got update from -48 to -64 and some got -48 to -49 and got stuck with it . I do not know what is going on . Just hoping to get the NOUGAT UPDATE . I am also very confused about the number system .
I would love to keep this thread going. I am in the same boat. I have a Moto G4 (Non-Plus) XT1625 Retus version. I am still on MPJ24.139-48. If you review Motorola's website...it says the latest version available is MPJ24.139-64. However, I have never received this OTA update. As a matter of fact I have tried to install this firmware from their website before and while it installs I get error crashes.
As far as I can tell from my research, in the US... some users got 64 but a lot of people are still on 48. Any thoughts? I would love to get this solved. Oh! and before you ask NO i don,t own the amazon variant!

Good news this image worked! I am not on mpj25.139-64 :good: thanks.
Now on to the next problem... Relocking the bootloader. Ever since I unlocked it the first time... I have not been able to lock it. It errors out and asks for an official signed image. Which confuses me... Since ever one I've installed (minus the custom Roms ) have been. If anyone here has suggested fix let me know... Otherwise. I'll create another thread so I don't hijack this one.
Thanks again

For that you have to install full stock/factory image which will re-lock your bootloader . But , that will erase all of your data . You can find tutorials on forum , no need to create another thread .

When I was on mpj24.139-48... I tried flashing the full image downloaded from Motorola's site. Still ran into the same issue. I don't mind that it will wipe my data.
On that link you sent over. Which file to download? I see the xt1625 folder and I see the Amazon firmware in it... But I am unsure what the other firmware is. I also see the Athens mpj25.139-64 folder on the main page below. Which is the safe file?
Thanks

Why athene f instead of athene?
Athene_F is for the Moto G4 Plus (athene is the code name, f for fingerprint sensor, I imagine), whereas athene is for the G4 models.

What do you want, Nougat or Marshmallow?
The install scripts in the updates should detect whether you are athene_f or athene (unless you flashed the wrong firmware in the past, which based on your earlier posts, may has happened).

That's a Marshmallow baseband, but it's reading as .32U, which may indicate flashing the wrong Marshmallow firmware at some point.
Which stock firmwares have you flashed previously, what builds and for what regions? I recall you flashed some builds suggested to you in the other thread.

Who is the system to upload now?
Referring to your other thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/help-t3586344/page6
you were on a marshmallow baseband ending with 62.u. Now you have 32.u...so you must have upgraded your firmware somehow in the last few days.
The baseband version must end with .R
Have you ever tried one of the suggestions in the above thread??
There you were given the fitting stock firmware and the right procedures to flash it.
My advice: go back to the above thread, read, try to understand and try again.
In addition to bullfinch's reply, I'd suggest going back to the stock (i.e. supplied by Motorola) ROMs, as flashing custom ROMs will just confuse matters.
If you've tried the suggestions in the thread above (your original thread), you may wish to have a look into flashing this ROM here https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G4 (Plus)/Stock/XT1642/ It's a stock ROM for XT1642, and looks to be the 139-48 build, which may give you the correct baseband. I've not tried it though, and there's still a chance you may still have the incorrect baseband afterwards.
As always, do a complete flash of a stock ROM if you can via fastboot (you could follow the instructions here, but using the XT1642 ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1643-updated-signed-t3460695), and back up your data.
If you do still get the incorrect baseband, as I suggested a few times, you may have to get your device serviced (contact Motorola in Poland for service centres), which may charge you a fee.
I'm still willing to help. That assumes, that you give answers to questions, made by echo92 before.
And my question is: Is your device detected by your pc if connected in fastbootmode?

So you can try flashing the right firmware (given by echo92) following the steps in the link. Or you try again RSD lite with this firmware (you remember).

Phone not updated since March security patch

My F5321 from Malaysia isn't receiving any of the new updates. Last one was 34.4.A.2.32.
Could anyone explain why?
You can check xpericheck.com if there's a newer version, but there's a good chance there isn't one. I'm stuck on 34.4.A.2.50 on the Central Europe version for example, the newest one is .85

Customised MY isn't even listed. :/
What now? Unlocking bootloader if you want latest security patches?
Is there another firmware variant that would be suitable for your location? There may be less difference between the variants than you might expect.

According to xpericheck, singapore region firmware is also stuck in March. I guess both MY and SG are using the sme FW. I think you cn flsh other region FW without unlocking Bootloader.
Is there a way to flash security updates only, without upgrading to oreo?

If you want to retain the fingerprint sensor operation, don't flash to US. People here have in the past recommended either DE or UK, as they tend to be updated promptly. No unlocking of bootloader needed.
Okay guys. I'm ready to flash a new firmware, probably Customised UK. Is the guide on xperiablog up to date and accurate? Also, there is a flashtool by Androxyde on flashtool dot net, but there is also a flashtool on Sony Developer World. Which one should I use?
There is only one xperifirm so that's unambiguous, at least.
Edit: also, it doesn't affect user data or the OS in general, does it?
I can only speak from personal experience with the Androxyde flashtool. I've never tried (nor even known about) the Sony flash tool. In my experience, if you don't make any changes to the default settings, the existing user data is carried over into the newly installed firmware. I'm assuming here that you're flashing from one variant of Android 8.0 to another, not from Android 7 to 8, etc.
BTW, I would always advise backing up your data first, of course. If, for some reason, you are dissatisfied with the result, you can normally get a factory installation of your currently-installed firmware by using software restore from SONY (as part of Xperia Companion).
@pseudonym58 Thanks. Is the guide on Xperia blog the one to follow or is there a better one out there?
I don't recall which guide I used. It basically runs like this:
Run Xperiafirm from within flashtool; it will refresh available software. Choose particular phone model and download desired firmware. Back in flashtool proper, connect phone in flash mode. Select downloaded firmware, which is unpacked and prepared for flashing. As I mentioned above, you should not need to make any configuration changes to the default. Flashing can now begin (it might seem to pause temporarily from time to time but don't cancel process).
Don't worry about warnings of missing elements; I have never had a flashing procedure fail as a result of a claimed missing component.
This is just a general procedure; perhaps someone else can recommend the best full tutorial.
Ok so CE1 got the newest (.107) update right now so it can probably be used too.
