[Q] Ultra brightness screen sunlight mode and write on the rear of photos - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed that in the sun some times and more with the camera, the screen will boost its brightness to a level we cannot select. it seems to even change the gamma of the screen where the screens look almost pink. But the result is a really bright and view-able screen in direct sunlight. Anyone know of an add to enable this via an app or some setting?
Also I remember with my Note 3 I could write on the back of the photos, is it not possible anymore?

I'm intrested to this.....but we have to find anyone who knows how to do that...

gekkehenkie11 developed an app for CyanogenMod called MDNIE Tuner which does that. Check the first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/official-cm12-910f-910g-t3046965
Not sure if it works with TouchWiz...

[Q] Screen brightness variation

Hey guys. My first hours with the SGS2, and there's something annoying me that I couldn't find anywhere.
I'm getting screen brightness variation depending on the image. On darker images the brightness is higher than on brighter images.
I'm pretty sure this is not auto-brightness. I've tested with manual brightness and the effect is there too. It's almost like if there's not enough power for the screen, and when you have more bright pixels, the screen dims.
Has anyone experienced this?
This is specially annoying when scrolling different content, or even when you are on a predominantly white screen and the swype keyboard shows up, making the white area much brighter.
I'm currently on "Normal" on that stupid screen setting (I have image post-processing). Tried movie too, but still shows this behaviour.
Here are two photos using a Nikon D40 in Manual mode. Exposure has not been changed between both photos. I've put them side-by-side for comparision. Brightness was manually set on the SGS2.
Is there a solution to this? Hopefully it's not a hardware problem .
Hmm, can't post image links... Can someone please post them?

EDIT: FOUND THE ANSWER MYSELF
There's a configuration for Energy Automatic Adjustment (don't know if this is the right text as my phone is in Portuguese). Disable that damn thing .

Netflix brightness

Has anyone else noticed that Netflix was a little dim???? I have my brightness set to maximum (manual) and when the show starts playing it is a little dim IMO. Anyone else feel the same way?
It isn't the show.
Yes. I have noticed the same thing. Basically what happens is that when you increase the screen brightness, the Netflix app itself gets a lot brighter, and the pause/play slider bar gets brighter too. But the video itself, not so bright.
strange.
I haven't used the app a lot on my phone, but I left the brightness all the way down with no problems.
I do have the Genocide 2.0 kernel, so I don't know if Voodoo Color is helping or not...
I would still LOVE real video adjustments for the Epic... now that we actually have video to stream to it. Im using it on lowest brightness, and loving the blacks in it, reminds me of my CRT projector... cant wait for OLED TVs.
maybe it's the picture examination and optimization feature thats in the display section in the settings menu, I see that if I uncheck that option it looks more brighter.

Just about to say the same thing.
Mine was disabled already. Picture still looks a bit dim with a bit of a contrast issue. Yet if I look at Netflix via my Roku via my Slingbox via my Slingplayer it looks fine on the Droid (I know, what a trip).

Help - Screen issue on low brightness

Hi,
I would like to confirm there is somehing wrong with my amoled display.
If someone could download voodoo display filter from play market and do a quick test for me in the dark.
Open a picture viewer (I use quickpic) find some pictures, now turn the brightness down to minimum, open voodoo display filter and activate it and lower the brightness even more..
If you zoom or scroll between pictures, do you see black rings and all over the screen there is some odd texture?
This does not show up if i don't lower beond stock brightness, but at night i find the screen to shine to mutch..
Help
Ok im not alone, and found the ongoing thread..sorry for dblpost

[Q] What's your Screen/Brightness Setting?

just wondering what you guys recommend for
(1) Screen Mode
Adaptive Mode (I turned this off... doesn't seem to make a diff?)
Dynamic
Standard (currently set on this)
Professional Photo
Movie
wanted to try Pro Photo and Movie.. but both make the screen yellow.. and reds washed out
(2) Auto Adjust Screen Tone
just wondering if you guys keep this on or off?
(3) Auto Brightness?
do you guys use this or manual adjustments?
(4) Power Savings - Use low power level for screen
1. Dynamic : because i love bright & vivid colors
2. Turned off : to preserve the bright & vividness of colors
3. Turned off : whenever i need i just slide the brighness slider.
4. Turned on : for most activity. Turned off while gaming
Standard, off, off, off. Brightness slider is set to about 10%.

No, I refer to pro photo mode in screen mode. Please note that I have extensively used Andreilux Perseus kernel and I love the color correction as explained in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38497753&postcount=3
What I know from what I read from different posts and my own experience, the natural screen mode in Cyanogen mod and pro photo in new Samsung devices is very close to Perseus kernel improvements for correct color reproduction. I love "washed" colors
One more thing, the "reading mode" is very good too, since when you add up to 20 applications in this mode in the settings, it automatically reduces contrast when you run one of these apps. I use it especially for Dolphin browser to read papers etc. It turns back to normal when you close the app.
Last but not least; general brightness level of Note 3, especially under direct sun light, is much better than Note 2, but especially under low light I have to manually reduce the brightness not to disturb my eyes.
Regards.
I'm using the pro photo setting. For brightness settings I'm using the app Lux to fine tune autobrightness which has separate day and night profiles. The app can darken your screen below the 0% setting by applying a filter on the screen. Very useful for totally dark situations.

I've been trying out Reading Mode... but it is making the screen really dim though.
Do you have power-savings mode ON?
No, I only use the power saving mod when I have around 15% battery left and I do not experience any dimnes in normal use.

been using the Professional Photo mode. I must say I'm liking the colors much better
anyone tried out LUX?
hmm.. seems like Professional Photo mode.. causes a level of yellowing?
Adaptive at 50% Auto Brightness.
Unbelievable colours at an unbelievable power consumption rate, much better than my N2.

[Q] Adjusting Screen Color Temperature

Is there a way to adjust the color temperature of the screen to a more natural white? I have tried the few screen modes in the settings but the Cinema one is still not very natural to me.
Is there an xposed framework mod or Rom that can do this?
Thanks.
I'm looking for it too. Tried some screen adjusters apps but the result wasn't really good as they just apply a filter layer above. I was used to my Note 2 color temperature wich is pretty higher than the 6500k reference resulting in a colder white. The Note 4 display in fact is more acurate, but I found it too warm for me. Whites seem a little pink to my taste. Wish I could raise the value, but I guess we must wait for a custom kernel with this capability.
One quick tip that might help.
Go into accessibility visual settings. Do the thing with the color adjustment and intentionally get them wrong. then move the slider almost all the way to the left.
You will no longer get to modify the adapt dispaly photo mode settings... but it will give a color temp somewhere in between.
you can alwyas set a triple click to shortcut to accessibility to disable it.
Oh thanks! Still not perfect but quite better this way. And without need of dirty kernel tricks.
I think the note 4 screen is too warm.
Is there any solution to make it cooler?

Just compare it to screen of Note 3, and you will not want it anymore :cyclops: It is much more warmer!
