Maxx and Moto x are different software and hardware
don t try

So how does one attempt to flash something to the turbo? I see people saying it will brick the phone - is this an automatic assumption that its possible to fully flash a firmware to the droid turbo (brick or not)
Sent from my XT1254

its not an automatic assumption. However, i gotta admit, id be tempted to flash xt1250, not xt1225, on my turbo. im trying to make things easier, though. #unlockthedroids

Seems we won't have the AT&T 4.4.2 firmware forever

I just posted in MOTOROLA SUPPORT FORUM a few days ago to see if I can unlock my non-developer edition XT1058 or get an AT&T's 4.4.2 firmware.

They can't officially release it, just like they don't officially release any beyond the Dev Editions (which happen to also work on the "retail" versions of those phones).
It getting "leaked" or "found some place" which would later get posted to -> http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0 is another story, but we have to be patient. As soon as they find it, I'm sure it will be posted. Just have to wait for them to get their hands on it.
I ask him about why are others software images can be found, but not receive any reply.

You completely missed what I said. I said that Moto has released images for the Developer X's..
Technically speaking, you did not get the "T-Mobile Retail X Firmware" from Moto. Their web site clearly says you are requesting "MOTO X, GSM Dev Edition: KK-4.4.2-KXA20.16-1.25_MR3 (Retail)"
It just so happens that the GSM Developer X and "T-Mobile" or "GSM Unlocked" versions of the X are all XT1053 and use the exact same rom. Just like the Developer Edition X for Verizon and Retail/MotoMaker X for Verizon are both XT1060 and use the same rom.
So yeah, moto has released the Developer Edition roms by request at -> https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images But they have not made the roms available for the "Carrier Branded" Moto X's, like the XT1058 from ATT, or the XT1056 from Sprint, or the XT1058 from Rogers, or the XT1055 from US Cellular, etc..
And Moto does not own or operate http://sbf.droid-developers.org

Under the Development thread there is a Mac Toolkit. The guy who made it isn't supporting it anymore, but it includes mfastboot. You can manually flash the files with it. I haven't searched for the exact commands, but they should be easily procurable via a quick search.

There is a Mac version of Fastboot... but I'm not sure what all is involved to use it. (drivers or anything else??) -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/X-STUFF/Mfastboot-4.4.zip To flash this way, you'll want to unzip the SBF file, open the included .XML file, and convert the operations to fastboot commands.
For example, in another thread of someone trying to flash a Claro 4.4.2 rom, when we opened the XML we came up with -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52051769&postcount=18

I don't think so.
The only difference between the developer models and the MotoMaker/Retail X for Verizon and ATT is the unlocked vs locked bootloader.
As far as using things like RSDLite and mfastboot, as long as you are flashing a ROM that is digitally signed by Moto, you should be able to do the same things.
Now, any rooting, flashing custom recovery or custom rom, etc wont work. But RSDlite or mFastboot to flash a Moto Rom will.

HuH? How does having the ATT 4.4.2 SBF help/allow you to root?
ATT has a locked bootloader, and 4.4.2 breaks/plugs the exploits used by SlapMyMoto/MotoWpNoMo. So flash this and you can't root or disable write protection.

I'm on Verizon. I used Safestrap and the Safestrap stock-rooted ROM over on XDA to retain root. It has literally no downsides to me. Once the SBF was made available for AT&T, someone on Rootzwiki said they would put together an AT&T version of it. Hence, I can root her phone. She's still on 4.4.

No love for the Moto X Play XT1564 (RLA)

I've been searching the web for weeks and found nothing about this model of the Moto X Play, only found that is part of the Verizon RLA program. Only found Stock Rom in a Chinese site that takes ages to download nothing else.
Anyways if anyone know more about this model of Moto X Play XT1564 Please post here.

Oh the Droid Maxx 2 is listed as an XT1565 I believe.
I did some searching and I think I found the same post as you. I would honestly try to get an unlock code the normal way from Motorola and see if its actually able to be unlocked, you may be surprised. If you get the code, you can try flashing the TWRP recovery we have for the Lux phones.
If you're brave enough anyway. If that worked, I'd attempt a nandroid backup for safety then try flashing some roms or just rooting it.
If I had the phone personally, I'd probably attempt it. Hopefully you can get the original firmware though, but you may be able to convert it to an XT1563 single sim.
I'm in the same situation, I got Moto X Play from Open Mobile. The same happened with my last phone, a GS 4 mini I had with Open as well so yea, though luck with our LRA version phones :S.
Could any of you guys post a link to that chinese site? At least having a copy of the original ROM helps.
I have the stock firmware 5.1.1 I will upload it to mega for others to download faster. It took me 7 hours to download that file from the Chinese site. Uploading to mega. I'll post here when finished.

There's only one way of finding out by flashing a Rom, I would suggest starting with Tesla Rom as it has multiple setting under data for both GSM and CDMA.

Well if you're on verizon, you'll be waiting awhile but always be cautious, moto phones are prone to hard bricks when flashing bootloaders, more than a few dozen folks hard brick the original moto x from 2013.

I hear you on being cautious. And for MM, this phone isn't supported by Verizon, when I logged in to it, Google thought is was Maxx 2 and so does my Verizon account, but it is a Play for sure. So weird.

Verizon version of the moto x play is called the droid maxx 2, count your blessings because verizon doesn't allow their bootloaders to be unlocked on retail phones. You have to buy a developer edition phone out right on verizon

Question... I just got my turbo 2 today and logged in, set it to see developers options in it, and it has the option to disable locked bootloader... Does this truly not disable it?

The TWRP for Kinzie will work for all Kinzie, including Droid Turbo 2 -- if the bootloader was unlocked. Verizon does not let Motorola do that, like they do for the other Kinzie. You would need to find an exlpoit like Sunshine team did for 2014 Droid Turbo (Quark).
