Camera going weird? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure why my Note 3 is doing this, but it used to be a lot better at taking pictures! It is stock, not rooted or anything.
It used to be pretty quick to focus and take pictures, but now the majority of the time it takes forever to focus and usually ends up blurry. It says 'processing' forever now too when taking pics and if i move it takes a pic of whatever is in the way then. Not been dropped or abused. It running stock android 4.4.2 on it (newest available to me.)
I'm don't know what is wrong with it, but any ideas would be good, thanks

Anyone elses camera make a clicking noise?

Just noticed it with 2.1 roms, could be other as well but never paid attention. Especially with Google Gogles and Barcode scanner, the camera clicks when it focuses and when it snaps a picture. This doesn't seem normal.
You answered your own question. The auto focus. the click is it going back to the starting point.

I don't recall ever actually being able to hear it is the thing. So im wondering if my camera is taking a crap on me.
After I flashed Damaged rom, I noticed the same thing. It just seems like the 2.1 roms go about controlling the camera hardware a little differently.
Mine has always done it, Stock or Not.. even the warranty replacements did the same
Ive heard the same thing on most the phones ive had. But i agree with what that the person said above. i think software just changes the way it use the camera hardware.

Same here. Mine has made the slight clicking sound right from day one.
The only time I really notice it though is when using Barcode Scanner.
it does that because the camera moves forward and back that's normal nothing to worry about
On the stock ROM and with the camera it would focus pretty smoothly but you could still hear it a little bit.
I noticed that with Google Goggles the autofocus goes crazy and that is probably why you notice the sound more.
Its just the focus, its quite normal... w/ any camera...
Gah! Wrong forum. Deleted.

Not everyone takes pictures during the day!!!

I made a huge mistake as I was scouting for a new phone, coming from my rooted G1 I was just so happy to be getting a new phone and I really had my eye on the Vibrant although I would have preferred a qwerty phone. For some strange reason I had it in my mind that the Vibrant had a flash and I did not find out otherwise until I had already ordered the phone just before the 15th so the phone had already shipped when I discovered the horrible reality that the Vibrant had no camera flash.
Has anyone found a that allows the camera to take decent photos in say a restaurant with only candles burning on the table or a night club? I really want a work around because I have been getting pretty attached the little guy and this is making me very sad.
Curses to the Tmo boob that said "its only a phone, it doesn't need a flash!"
Any ideas would be fantastic. Sorry such a long story.
PS already thought of the 3G slide but want to try with the Vibrant first
idea = chill.
try the camera when you get it. you've got 14 days, and if you don't like it return it and wait for that hspa+ htc monster coming this fall.
Night Mode setting on the camera?
Click Night Mode, and you are good. Stop complaining about Flash, LED Flash barely makes a difference.

Yeah you definitely are. Pictures in night mode are excellent quality from what I've demoed the phone to be.
here are ppl post about how good night mode is with samples:

That said with a few minor mods to the back would make it possible to make a flash if it is that necessary..I mean its not a complicated mechanic... >.>
Night mode is decent.

OMG thank you, I was so convinced. I checked my mode and picked night then back but I did not hit the night mode again to confirm my choice so by not confirming it it would revert to regular mode hence the horrible dark/red picture. Now my problem is its really blurry so I think i have to play with it more but yes the pic is actually pretty bright, still would prefer a flash but this is good. Thanks all !!!
So I guess this means you haven't tried, let alone simply seen the night mode pictures this thing takes? They are a bit dark, but defined with good contrast... I turn my grow lights off and use night mode to take pictures of my indoor plants and they look great...
EDIT: Sorry, I'm lame and replied before noticing there was a second page... reading is power...
No problem. And yeah with night mode you have to have a pretty steady hand.

No you are right though I never seen any photos that were taken with the night mode and I was not in night mode it kept going back to regular mode so the crappy pics that came out was all I know but hearing from all of you really showed I was just not getting it right but now I got it and you all are right the pictures come out fantastic, funny because when you are actually taking the picture the screen is soooo dark but when the picture is done and you view it its like the sun is out, wow!!! Thanks all of you, THIS IS A KEEPER !!!

Yeah, my first attempt to use a different mode had me confused... I figured the confirm button wasn't what it was... at least that's what I assume it is now...
I must say I still wouldn't mind having a flash... but I doubt I will use it as I think LED flashes tend to white wash everything and I either find a way to light it more naturally or use a night mode even on my dedicated camera... I agree though, they did a good job on the camera...
in addition to nightmode you could use picsay pro to remove the graniness and adjust each pic, very nice app

Epic video camera = junk.

First of all, id just like to say, i love my epic, however.... i had it for almost a month and today i tried the video camera which is supposed to be good... right? Well unless im doing something wrong, it looks like crap. If anyone is moving fast it has a HUGE trail behind them. Is there something i can do to fix this issue? i have everything on max settings.

I haven't tweaked any settings and it's perfectly fine. Try deleting the Data under Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Camera > 'Clear Data'.
See if it works better that way. My playback is incredibly high quality and I don't touch any settings.
Strange I've taken quite a few vids with my Epic and never had that issue. In fact they generally turn out quite well.
do this: wave your hand infront of it and see if you can see the tracers.... thats waht im talking about... so for instance, if i record someone breakdancing or something else that they are moving fast, its ALL tracers and looks terrible. P.S. that didnt work

for real? wtf... yeah im running the eb13 ext4 with the OC kernal... so how would i go about fixing this? downgrading back to dk18?
Yeap people are downgrading back to DK18 but I like froyo too much so I will wait for the fix
Yup, I would say screw that, and just downgrade back to Froyo dk28, it's what I have and until I see some decent roms with EB13 I will probably stick with DK28 until, I was OC'd with Genocide too, but that causing my phone to freeze sporatically,.
So I say stick with a dk rom.
There is absolutely no reason to"upgrade" to eb13 until there are some good custom roms. I'm running viper trinity with genocide kernel and my phone flies with no issues whatsoever. Why would I want to"upgrade" to a stock rom with evidently lots of bugs?
I say hold off, let these great devs work their magic, and then flash a true "upgrade."

Which camera App?
I have found the camera on the Epic to be very inconsistent. Sometimes the photos look great, rivaling a good point-n-shoot. But, other times, it's just not sharp. It doesn't help that the lens sticks out and seems to get dirty just from holding the camera.
Has anyone found a better camera app?
I was able to record a basketball game...and even zoomed in all the way and out while recrding while they were running and there was absolutely NO blur. It was buttery smooth.
Infact, whenever someone watches a video on my phone, they ALL say "...wow....your phone takes really clear vids!"
Unfortunately tho, I don't see that being the case anymore if I take a video in lowlight
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It's not junk. It's the EB13 ROM causing problems. I'm still on DK28 and my cam is perfect....although a little grainy in low light.
The irony is that Samsung makes cameras, so one would think this is an area where they'd have an edge over HTC...

It's the speed of the micro SD. Get a class 6 and it wont happen anymore.
Lag on preview
Are you looking at the resultant videos, or the screen when you're taking the movies? Because during video the screen is definitely laggy. As for the motion artifacting, well, you're not going to be able to catch even moderately high speed activities with a sensor the size of the Epic's in low light. That's because it looks like the Epic doesn't adjust the ISO when it gets dark, it just increases exposure time for each frame. This keeps the images from being terribly grainy, but also makes everything look like slomo watercolors when it gets dark enough. If you want good motion capture in low light situations, you're going to have to get something with a larger sensor. Actually, I'm surprised how nice the epic's movies look. I'm the first one to criticize samsung, but they did pretty well with the limited sensor size.

VR Panorama Mode

I had a Gnex, where I would take panorama pics and it was AWESOME. It stitched them together so well, that I had little to no complaints with it. However my LG G2- its awful. I tried taking a 360 bubble picture, and it was terri-bad. I don't understand how it can be so bad, if the stock android has a great feature, how they can make it WORSE on another phone.
Is there a way to get the version that Android has built in to work, and lose this crap that LG tried to do? I assume i'll have to root, and drop a rom on there... but I was trying to avoid that. However- I might over this one issue.

One of the things i think is really bad too. Photosphere was phenomenal on my GNex, on the G2, its almost unusable. Sad bc I love the camera otherwise.
If you're rooted you can install the apk from the Google Edition phones. Works fine for me.
Works fine 4 me
Don't why you're complaining,on my G2 everything works fine.
To make the bubble sphere just take all the photoframes that the phone points out. The real picture will come at the end after "Processing". There it will reprocess all of the frames taken and arrange them propperly.
I'm surpriesed that you haven't seen this until now. Is realy awesome.
But I have 1 question :
How can we publish on facebook these pictures so that the others can see the bubble sphere?
If not facebook.. any other websait?and we can share the link in facebook?
Grid Wall Spin
I have an LG D959 flex. In VR Panorama mode I can't get the "grid wall" to stop spinning. When I hit the shutter a number 3 pops up and nothing else happens. The wall keeps rotating though. Am I missing a setting?

First thing first. Check if it is an external or internal issue. To check if it is external, take a closer look to the camera (if possible with a zoom ?) and if you see the lens is foggy or some moist inside there, then you will have to open it. To check if is internal, install 2 or 3 other cameras that work with selfies and see if it is blurry too.

1st, if you want someone to answer to you, you must click on the reply button. otherwise, that person might never know that you are asking him something.
Now, this is a picture of how more or less a foggy/moist lens would look like (like fog accumulating on the interior). If you take a close look and you dont see anything abnormal, then it is more likely to be something inernal (software related) but in order to see whether is that too then, you might want to install several camera apps and try each one. if none of the show a blurry image, then it is software related. if all of them show you the same result then ... it might be external and you would have to open the phone.

A) If the OP is serious about this thread, they'll come back and actually check it and see my request. If they need me to hit the reply button, that's just lazy and not giving a care. If they don't care, I don't care.
B) If you meant to attach a photo, you forgot to.
C) I'm not really interested in seeing what you have, I'm here to help the OP. I've been doing photography for over 30 years now. I pretty much have seen it all. Not sure why you think I want to see what you have since you are not the OP.

Er, the OP started the thread and commented about blurry photos, what made you assume the thread was suddenly about you?
And there's about a million different reasons for photos to come out blurry which is why it is best to ask for examples instead of jumping on a solution that is probably somewhere at the bottom of the list out of possible reasons first. Makes complete sense that I was talking to the OP if you're actually here to help the OP.

Do you know what a hierarchy chart by any chance? (dont go taking this question the wrong way now)
Yes, I know what a hierarchy chart is but I fail to see how that solves the OP's issue without the OP coming back and giving us examples of his/her blurry photos.
To get back on track, and yes this is almost pointless without samples of the blurry pics, my front camera seems to "smooth" selfie pics as if to make them seem better. They look, to me, like they have been processed to look "better"--like some people often do on Facebook to pics of themselves, particularly if they are above a "certain age."

Just bought the V20 and I've got to say how disappointed I am with the front camera, particularly auto mode. It's almost impossible to take a picture that isn't blurry. The only way to get a decent picture is to switch to manual mode and increase shutter speed. Once you toggle between shutter speed and iso, you can capture really decent pictures. Where this causes problems is when you need to snap a picture really quickly and don't have time to sit and adjust settings. I'll probably return this phone and go for a Samsung. At least I know I'll get great pictures. Very disappointing.
the front camera sucks because of the focus, that's why mines blurry anyway. it's like infinity focus so anything closeup, like a selfie, is not sharp. the galaxy s7 was the same way.. the ffc was garbage on it bc of this. weird, bc my note 4 ffc was 10x better than both and that phones 3 years old lol

I think it has something to do with with the stupid beauty filter on the front cam for selfies. Even if you turn it down to 0 it still looks like it's applying a smoothing effect and there is no way to turn it off as far as I know.
Just doing a comparison shot in another camera app like the Google camera I can tell a difference in the detail of my skin. The Google camera sucks because there is too much noise overall but I can actually see the individual hairs on my beard whereas on the LG one with the beauty thing turned to 0 it still looks like a smoothed out mish mash
