Not everyone takes pictures during the day!!! - Vibrant General

I made a huge mistake as I was scouting for a new phone, coming from my rooted G1 I was just so happy to be getting a new phone and I really had my eye on the Vibrant although I would have preferred a qwerty phone. For some strange reason I had it in my mind that the Vibrant had a flash and I did not find out otherwise until I had already ordered the phone just before the 15th so the phone had already shipped when I discovered the horrible reality that the Vibrant had no camera flash.
Has anyone found a that allows the camera to take decent photos in say a restaurant with only candles burning on the table or a night club? I really want a work around because I have been getting pretty attached the little guy and this is making me very sad.
Curses to the Tmo boob that said "its only a phone, it doesn't need a flash!"
Any ideas would be fantastic. Sorry such a long story.
PS already thought of the 3G slide but want to try with the Vibrant first

idea = chill.
try the camera when you get it. you've got 14 days, and if you don't like it return it and wait for that hspa+ htc monster coming this fall.

Night Mode setting on the camera?

Click Night Mode, and you are good. Stop complaining about Flash, LED Flash barely makes a difference.

Xenon Flash attachment?

Wait have you received the phone yet? Night mode on the phone is far from horrible.

Then I think Im doing something wrong.

Yeah you definitely are. Pictures in night mode are excellent quality from what I've demoed the phone to be.

here are ppl post about how good night mode is with samples:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710405
That said with a few minor mods to the back would make it possible to make a flash if it is that necessary..I mean its not a complicated mechanic... >.>

Night mode is decent.

OMG thank you, I was so convinced. I checked my mode and picked night then back but I did not hit the night mode again to confirm my choice so by not confirming it it would revert to regular mode hence the horrible dark/red picture. Now my problem is its really blurry so I think i have to play with it more but yes the pic is actually pretty bright, still would prefer a flash but this is good. Thanks all !!!

So I guess this means you haven't tried, let alone simply seen the night mode pictures this thing takes? They are a bit dark, but defined with good contrast... I turn my grow lights off and use night mode to take pictures of my indoor plants and they look great...
EDIT: Sorry, I'm lame and replied before noticing there was a second page... reading is power...

No problem. And yeah with night mode you have to have a pretty steady hand.

No you are right though I never seen any photos that were taken with the night mode and I was not in night mode it kept going back to regular mode so the crappy pics that came out was all I know but hearing from all of you really showed I was just not getting it right but now I got it and you all are right the pictures come out fantastic, funny because when you are actually taking the picture the screen is soooo dark but when the picture is done and you view it its like the sun is out, wow!!! Thanks all of you, THIS IS A KEEPER !!!

Yeah, my first attempt to use a different mode had me confused... I figured the confirm button wasn't what it was... at least that's what I assume it is now...
I must say I still wouldn't mind having a flash... but I doubt I will use it as I think LED flashes tend to white wash everything and I either find a way to light it more naturally or use a night mode even on my dedicated camera... I agree though, they did a good job on the camera...

in addition to nightmode you could use picsay pro to remove the graniness and adjust each pic, very nice app

Then don't buy the phone.

Dissapointing camera :( With example pics!

Last night I went to take my first picture in dimly lit conditions ( I was in the Pub DJ'ing), and am hugely dissapointed!!
Firstly you cannot see anything on the screen when trying to look at the subject about to be photographed, for a second I thought the screen had tuned off it was that black!!
So I then took the photo (blind) and this was the result.......
Asside from the fact that it is blurry which was probably down to me not holding the phone steady as I was in shocked disbelief that I could not see anything, it is a terrible picture, he looks like a ghost because of the white out effect from the flash!
It really was a bad experience which is a million miles away from the day time photo taking pleasure that see results like this....
Although it is still a little washed out.
Does anyone have any tips for better quality pics?? Or a tweak that actually allows you to see what your about to photo when it's pooly lit (like in a Pub)?
Cheers!

Cheers but it's not the pink splodge i'm dissapointed with, I cant see that in any of my pics.
It's the fact that you cant see anything on the screen or focus when your in low light conditions, shooting blind, and then the white out effect!
i have the same problem too! you cant change the flash settings as far as i know. but the flash is way too bright(makes a great flashlight though )
I find that if you turn the assistance flash on before you take the photo, the light levels are better adjusted.
Theres seems to be a problem with the flash timing/sync etc..!!!
its a commoon problem, ive contacted HTC(as have others). Check out this thread to see their replys.

Any updates on the flash adjustments
I agree. It seems crazy for you to be expected to frame a shot properly when the screen is pitch black ,the light should come on on its own when the light sensor detects that it is dark!
The best thing to do for now is to manually turn the flash on using the flash button before you take the shot, at least thats an easy work around.

Peace gardens!! You live in Sheffield?
Sadly I don't think there's much you can do here, that's just the nature of LED flash; it's just useless (and that's why you never see it on normal cameras). And this thing has TWO LED flashbulbs xD
They should have just used xenon flash like a normal camera?? But I think they use far more battery life.

A couple hundred indoor and outdoor pics taken by the Atrix.

So I went on vacation last week to see Atlantis lift off and I took a billion pics with the Atrix.. So this thread is going to be sharing and caring and then also a large group of photos to help people get the general idea of the quaility it can take.
Some of the pics are inside and some are outside, some have flash and some don't. Several people were amazed that these were from a phone. Enjoy.

I had just figured out there was a zoom, like months after getting it..
The stock camera was okay, but there has been a substantial performance boost in gingerbread 2.3.4. I just wish they had placed the exposure setting on screen instead of in the menu settings, it makes a huge difference in photo quality.

Camera going weird?

Not sure why my Note 3 is doing this, but it used to be a lot better at taking pictures! It is stock, not rooted or anything.
It used to be pretty quick to focus and take pictures, but now the majority of the time it takes forever to focus and usually ends up blurry. It says 'processing' forever now too when taking pics and if i move it takes a pic of whatever is in the way then. Not been dropped or abused. It running stock android 4.4.2 on it (newest available to me.)
I'm don't know what is wrong with it, but any ideas would be good, thanks

Auto flash does not work properly on the XL

As you can see by both images, 1 was auto flash and one was flash on, they both fired the flash even the auto one but for some reason it's weak and looks crap, I do not recommend using auto flash on this phone, it seems in auto mode it fires at the wrong time!
I avoid using the flash on a phone if at all possible, they never work well.

I've never had a problem on any phone when using auto flash, only when I've used some third party camera apps it's not fired correctly but not with the stock app, i even got an update for the camera a couple of days ago and that hasn't fixed it either.
I've just sent feedback to Google, does anyone know how to attach images for Google to look at with feedback reports?

Looks to me like the blue, relativley bright lights behind the toy threw the camera off. The ones that look like lit computer ventilation fans. Try a bunch of different situations and see how it does. You've picked a tough shooting situation. I actually try not to use the flash myself for indoors since phones seem to do pretty well in dim light now. But now that taking pictures is basically free (no film to develop) I take it both ways when I can.

I thought that it threw it off but the flash fired so it should have been as bright as the flash on image, i did try other scenarios and it's the same, it seems the flash is out of sync in auto mode.
Regardless of when the flash went off, to me, the slightly darker image when it was in auto looks more natural.

I think he's saying it's more natural in terms of color reproduction. Noise is noise but the color does look better probably cause it actually didn't get the flash at all. If I do use flash (just way too dark of a situation) I do flash on anyway.

That's just the point i was saying, I've never had to flash on by force manually on any phone I've owned and I've had quite a few, it just seems odd it's flashing but incorrectly, just adds more fuel to the fire of Google making so many mistakes this year if I'm being honest, i love Google phones but it seems this year they have made some rookie mistakes.
