[Q] Droid Turbo Return Question - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

I bought 2 droid turbos with verizon edge. I traded in my iphone 5 phones as part of the transaction. Anyone know what happens if I try to return my droid turbos? I'm wishing I had waiting for the Nexus 6.
I know I will own $70 in restock fees (2 x $35) but not sure how the rest will go.

I'm wondering the same thing. I want my G2 back so badly. The idle drain, capacitive buttons, poor wifi, and lack of simultaneous data and talk driving me crazy. Let's not even talk about root...

I highly doubt they will give you the phone back. I'm sure they will give you a gift card for the value of the phones, minus the restocking fees.

Return
So here's what will happen. Of course the restock fee. You will not get your iphones back. Assuming your trade in value of the iPhones was above $100, you should receive a gift card/account credit with the value of those trade in's or can put it towards a phone when returning the Turbos. If you are going to wait you will have to find some interim phones.

that's very useful, thanks

If you return the phone within the return period you don't get hit with the restock fee unless you exchange it. Told this by a rep

You have 14 days to give it back. If you do it, in that timeframe, all is well. If you go outside of it, sheet hits the fan. In less than a month we will have VoLTE and Lollipop. SO I was told. Data and voice at same time will be fixed and you get the new OS.. boom
Root, however, is another story.. patiently waiting

I think my wife is going to return tomorrow so I'll get rid of it in less than a week. That'll work. I really don't care about Data and voice at same time, that's a "neutral" on my big ass list of reasons I want out of this phone.

OK well since you asked I'll list out my likes and hates. Keep in mind I'm coming from an iPhone 5 (which my wife forced me into). I put my foot down and demanded Android this time but I'm really hating this phone. I wanted a Nexus 6 but after cutting out a model out of cardboard I realized it didn't fit very well in my front pants pocket and that was without a case so that's why I tried this phone.
I like:
- the size and form factor
- the google software (except for the music app and the fact gmail must be separate from other email)
- the battery
- the free screen replacement (x1)
- the speed (after I disabled about 20 apps)
I'm neutral on:
- the screen (kind of dark and not loving the colors)
- no data and voice simultaneously
I hate:
- all the bloat (the Verizon software, amazon software, etc)
- the camera (slow and takes pretty bad pictures IMO)
- the wifi range/stability (getting drop outs on my top floor, never had that before)
- the bluetooth (getting drop outs in my car, never had that before)
- all the moto software (the moto voice software constantly stops playing whenever I have music on bc it thinks it's me talking.)
- low sound volume (although better after disabling audio effects)
- speakerphone (getting an echo, never had that before)
- lack of real voice mail (seriously WTF with Verizon voice mail)
- verizon text messages (couldn't figure out how to text pictures with anything else although I didn't spend much time on it)

You can disable a lot of the bloat apps if you go into the app management settings
Camera might improve with software update or another app, but this is a personal preference thing for sure
Wifi issues would definitely bug me. Haven't personally noticed anything, but I've had my phone for lass than 24 hours
I'll test out my bluetooth, thanks for the heads up!
As for manufacturer software enhancements, this is as slim as it gets (aside from a Nexus device with pure vanilla android). Only other option is to go back to apple I think. Or wait for root/roms etc.
Not sure about voicemail issues, been a VZW customer for >10 years and it's always been fine.
You can use different text apps. Try the one w/ green icon, not the stupid red verizon one.

That's fair. The Wi-Fi and stuff will probably be fixed in an update. Bloat can be disabled in the application manager. You can customize your experience quite a lot including using any app you want for any activity, unlike iPhone. I recommend textra

I have 20+ apps disabled, but i appreciate the heads up.
The wifi and bluetooth problems are pretty major for me (speakerphone too since i use that a lot). My wifes droid turbo has the same wifi issues as mine but no bluetooth issues so far.

Just wanted to throw it out there in case you weren't aware. You had to know that people would try to rebut your dislikes Good luck with the return, let us know how it goes! I started Edge yesterday and the VZW guy couldn't really give a good answer on how the return process works. Hopefully I won't need it....

Honestly I do appreciate the feedback. But yeah, a lot of people love their droid turbos so they don't want anyone to bash it. I get it. I tend to defend what I like too. I'm going to try to send my wife out for the return today, she's kind and patient and her returns seems to go smoother than when I do them.

Instead of me telling you how to fix these issues, because they can be fixed or will be addressed with updates...
Tell me what phone you would get as an alternative and I will give you my opinions on that or at least the differences. Because everything you listed will not only be a problem on a lot of phones, but even worse in some cases.

Well I WOULD have gladly taken a Nexus 6... but my wife needs a working phone right now not whenever google actually gets product shipped so she left with the droid turbo and is coming back with iphone 6. Plus they simply made the Nexus 6 too large. But even though it's too big I'd still take one right now if I could get one.
There are a lot of complaints about the wifi and I seriously doubt that can be fixed. The wifi is worse than my cheap work lenovo laptop that my employer hands out to everyone. Maybe the other issues will eventually be fixed but it's possible there will NEVER be root on these phones and that's what everyone needs.
If I had to do it over again, I'd have hung on to my iphone 5 and I would have bought an HTC One M9 in March/April but that ship has sailed.

Figures you would post the one phone I cannot help you with, lol! I'm not an iPhone user, it's just a blatantly overpriced piece of hardware.
My opinion, however, is that you're exchanging a device that lacks a well rounded camera in terms of software for one that offers more functionality in terms of software..
Internally, Android just wins. Hands down. Sure, the iPhone has a great camera & a 64 bit SoC. But take those two things away and nothing inside is truly "revolutionary" at all. It's been done before, years ago, nothing new or substantial other than the fact that Apple has finally caught up in display offerings.
Nexus 6 is definitely going to be one of a kind, but I don't think the battery is going to be great imho. I'm reserving my opinions on the camera for now. I do think the signal strength will be good, as Motorola implemented a great design around the band and the plastic back won't obscure signals.
I'm sorry your Turbo experience wasn't a pleasurable one for your personal needs.

Yeah the short of it as a married man this was my chance to convert my wife (she insists that we have the same phone so that I can help her figure things out) to Android and there are simply too many problems with this phone. Nothing was easy or simple, even stuff like Voice Mail, Bluetooth streaming, wifi, texting. Those are basic things that my iPhone 5 was better at. I'm honestly shocked.
I knew there would be bloatware and I disabled it. I still don't think carriers should be able to load that **** on peoples phones and then keep people from deleting it. I think that's a huge problem for Android to overcome. I think Google is headed in the right direction with the Nexus 6... but it's not available yet.
Maybe down the road I can try again... with a Nexus device

Ya, I can imagine it being a big disappointment. The last thing you want to give your wife or anyone in general is a bad first experience.
If you are seeking the best Android experience possible than you should definitely get a Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Moto X 2014, or the M8 Google Play Edition. They all run vanilla Android out of the box with zero bloat and will give you the quickest Android updates available.

Definitely worth it if you have the cash the burn. I came into that situation when I came into the possession of a few StarCraft II beta keys, and technically only paid taxes on the phone.
My other reason is that I wanted to move to T-Mobile, the area I live has good coverage and I was paying way too much money as it were on AT&T. The Even More Plus plans make it an amazing phone to use on it. On AT&T they stick you with whatever $30 data plan. YMMV on that, because for the past half year I was on a Rogers HTC Magic on AT&T and was using their dumbphone unlimited plan for half that. But once I placed my SIM in the N1, the system kicked me up to the 30 dollar plan automatically.
As for the device itself, it's well built, feels very solid. Everything is just snappy when compared to the Magic, even portrait and landscape switching. When I got it earlier this week I was showing it around the office and probably made a few converts out of some iPhone people.
Well it depends. Have you used a smartphone or iphone before. Is this your first foray into touchscreens? Lots of questions, but heres my impression.
1) Phone is solid! sleek, and very thin for a smartphone.
2) Its feature packed with apps (only downside is no support for sd card apps install with the stock rom)
3) Google maps with navigation is killer!! especially with the free price tag.
4) People are experiencing low signal strenght when holding the bottom of the phone. I did notice that with the tmobile version, but i have the att version now and im guessing att service where i live is just that much better than tmo.
5) Screen is gorgeous. Resolution and the AMOLED technology is amazing.
6) Coming from iphone 3gs, the touchscreen isnt as good as the iphone, but the more i use the phone the less i notice the difference.
7) Call quality is about equal to the iphone.
8) Bottom menu buttons (back, menu, home and search) arent always spot on. I read somewhere here that you have to touch just above the icon and before the screen and its been responsive with that. hoping google will get that fix to actually be able to touch the icon and it should work.
9) Battery life for me has been good so far. Heavy text, light email and varying web use and it Lasts me all day and i usually charge my phone when i go to bed no matter what anyway.
10) And you have 14 days to test drive the phone. Only thing is that you pay $45 for restocking fee. W
So people can talk about this phone, but ultimately its going to end up with your decision. So either find someone with a nexus one to see in person, or buy it and return within 14 days if you dont like it and just get charged $45 after you get your refund.
Hope this helps

Good Phone, Get one
Yes it is worth it especially when we get flash 10.1
Great phone. You'll hear about a few perceived issues, but overall it's a great phone. I like it much better than the iphone 3GS it replaced.
it worths ,
1) it is fast, or even faster than iphone 3gs
2) you can use different widges instead of plain and simple icons in iphone.
3) although the apps is not that much than iphone , the apps is still enough for general use
4) easy to use , dont need itunes support, unmounted the sd cards anytime without any problems
5)
but i still missed the magnifier when choosing words in iphone and i feel disappointed about the youtube apps in nexus one, because i cant change the default location and this is useless to other countries beside US.
My life now revolves around my nexus one. That's how good it is.

I think it will vary from person to person. I had a Blackberry curve... then the HTC TP2. I don't think I've ever truly experienced what a smartphone should be like until I got my N1. I absolutely think it was it was worth it.
Totaly worth it. I LOVE my new nexus one.
The iPhone pales in comparison.
Apple really sucks. The only reason the iPhone is popular is because it came out first. If android came out first, apple would hardly have any customers--just like MAC's vs PC's today

goodbye xv6800 hello droid 2

So I'm sitting in traffic the other day and fire up the Bing app. Lo and behold I discover they've eliminated my ability to lookup traffic on this device. WTF? And it won't reliably kick me over to the browser either.
Sure, it's a free app, but one that's kept me using a WM phone.
No longer. I'm off to go buy a Droid2. I've been waiting for a better phone and would've stuck with WM. But not when they take a perfectly good app and phone and destroy functionality on it. Who the hell thought this was a good idea? Couldn't they at least have handled the transition better? Yeah, yeah, I know they want to promote using more features and those require faster phones. But instead of giving me an upgrade path they've just alienated me as a customer.
WM7 just doesn't hold out enough hope at this point. I've got a Zune (gathering dust in a drawer), so I know the pain of failed expectations. MS has just totally dropped the ball in the portable market.
Truth be told I don't really need to use than many things on a phone. And it'll be a cold day in Hell before I purchase an iPhone. That company's policies are just despicable. Not that Google's any lily-white virgin either, but at least they don't censor applications and developers.
Goodbye WinMo, it's been nice while it lasted.
Brand new Droid 2 in my hands. Local store in Rockville had 80 of them. Talk to Daren there if you want decent help, nice guy.
First impression is it's almost the same size as the XV6800. A bit thinner and heavier and maybe a slight bit taller. But it's got a nice feel to it. Even fits in my XV6800's fabric sleeve. Oddly enough with all the cradle and holster options out there I prefer just using the sleeve and keeping it in my pocket. Even got a desk cradle for it. Out the door for $253 total, and that's before the $100 rebate. Gotta love NE2 promotions.
Android is a bit different. But like WinMo it's got plenty of ways "you can't get there from here". Editing contacts and such is different, but nearly as annoying as WM6.
Best impression so far? That the phone itself rings the first time, the same as what the caller hears. Annoyed the hell out of me on the XV6800, it wouldn't ring until at least one, usually two, rings had been heard by the caller. I had to change my voicemail ring delay because of it.
It's the little things, and that's what has pretty much killed the WinMo devices. There's just too many little things that suck. I wanted to believe in it but I've since given up. Ah well.
And now I've upgraded to a Droid4. Kinda miss the smaller form factor. And the old XV6800 sleeve doesn't fit it.
MS drove me away by abandoning my phone in the maps app, now they're driving away the winmo7 users by having no upgrade path to 8. Still not grasping the value of keeping customers. No chance I'll go back to an MS phone given this clear track record.
Meanwhile the D4 is nice, but the big win was rooting it and running wifi tether on it for use as a hotspot. Beats having to be limited to my 5gb/month on the USB modem (now a 10gb shared plan with the wife's ipad3-4g).
The old mogul was a good phone, we had lots of fun times and custom roms, winmo was glorious in its day, Microsoft just let it all slip away to android and ios.

Yes, it is sad that they quit supporting Bing for Windows Mobile. Have fun on your journey with Android!
I too finally ran out of spare 6800's and had to buy another phone. I went to Touch Pro for awhile and started cooking for it until I got a Droid X2.
It was a pleasure serving everyone and meeting people. The Mogul was a great phone and I learned a lot from it. Its funny how it just seems like yesterday.
Take care

[Q] Are you returning the phone?

After dealing with all the delays, non-existent support and updates and failed promises to ship the phone with next day shipping, I decided that I had tolerated enough and demanded my money back. Hopefully that is easy.
Here's why Dell Venue Pro sucks:
1. Too big. Usually big is a 'good' thing according to the trend of 2010. However, when it's big but also thick, it reminds me of my iPAQ from 12 years ago. With the Otter Case it gets even worse.
2. Horrible Camera. It's slow to activate unlike the Focus, and it takes blurry pictures even in just slightly dim light. I know that no camera phones can take pictures in dim light well, but DVP's camera is blurry even in a room during the day. My T-Mo G1 can do better than that.
3. No 4G. Just a UI change is not enough to switch phones and pay more per month as I had been using Android, and all the newest droids out there have way faster speeds that can even do video chat.
4. Keyboard is not that well integrated. Turns out the "fn" key and "shift" key are highly unpredictable, since it doesn't have any indicator that it's simply on or locked on. I mistyped more password than I did with the soft keyboard. Therefore, it's not worth the bulk.
5. Thoroughly unhackable. No SD Card slot access. No tethering trick. No screenshot trick.
6. Bottom buttons are capacitive. Looking back, the dev phone was perhaps the only great phone because they have hard buttons for Back, Windows and Search keys. Using touch buttons for these important commands make the OS experience finicky. For example, it's too easy to hit the Bing button accidentally while taking photos. It was also way too easy to got kicked out of a game - and having the resume afterwards makes things worse.
7. No confidence left for Dell Mobility, or even Dell in general: They folded the mobile division already. Their updates for Dell Aero and Dell Streak took months and months to fulfill, so how will the DVP be any different? We had already suffered through the lack of information on shipping, and I would expect firmware updates not to be any different.
8. This thing crashes. Unlike some other users here, mine crashes even when Wifi is off. The crashes are all random and not confined to Marketplace or 3rd party apps. If Dell was not so irresponsible, I would ask for an exchange instead of a return, but this is a dealbreaker to me.
One thing I am glad about it is, I had waited long enough to find out about Samsung's Omnia 8, and probably better phones to come in CES and Mobile World Congress.
Thanks, Dell, for being awful, and ruining what would be a good phone.
I plan on giving Dell one more shot. I've been waiting a week now for my replacement. I'll wait for that replacement (even if it takes another week or two) and if the replacement is unstable or has any other problem then I'll return it and pick another phone.
You are right, this phone could be near perfect. It just seems that Dell rushed it.
I'm in the same boat. I love the phone except a few major problems.
1- WiFi Crashing
2- Bluetooth not staying connected
Below are WP7 issues
3- Cannot sync with Outlook
4-No mass storage
5- Cannot connect to hidden WiFi networks!!!!
I miss cut and past but can live without it I need the rest fixed if I'm going to be able to keep it.

I don't know....my WiFi lags but doesn't crash. My BT is fine. Outlook syncs fine, but I've been syncing cloud stuff fine. Storage, I have 16gigs. Will I use more..who knows or cares. Hidden WiFi...something strange about that. Its hidden for a reason, if dvp could see it, ITT wouldn't be hidden. Seems like homey reasons to quit to me. But then again , you're not me. I got what I expected. Is it 100% perfect? Nope...but I wasn't expecting it to be. I wonder if iphone4 people are returning it because of the alarm...to me the best reason to return a phone is...i don't like it. All other reasons show up on most other phones too... Just my opinion
this phone has more problems now that i think about it. but mines a keeper. i like the windows UI and the look of the dvp. its rare and you cant just buy it at, say, tmobile stores. =D
I love the phone but you know as much as I love it I can't use a phone that doesn't work. When I pay $550 for a phone I think the least it can do is work so as much as it kills me I called them last night and told them I want my money back. I gave them a week or so to see if they would give some responce to the problems posted on the forums but nothing which means they're not going to fix the problems or they're going to be real slow about it. And the whole 30days thing you guys have over here means I cant really wait around to find out so I'll have my money back thanks!
The problems I had with the phone were numerous:
- WiFi crashing constantly
- bluetooth constantly disconnecting from car kit
- 3G signal loss and complete network loss
- white noise in earphones
...and then to top it all off, and this is a WP7 issue more so than a DVP issue - however the marketplace works and because I used my old windows live id to setup the phone, M$ basically still think I'm in Ireland for whatever reason and as a result I can't download any of the good stuff eg: Netflix, LastFM etc... and some apps I download are for european region instead of US and so are completely useless to me.
Anyway all in all I had no choice but to get a refund. Bummer!
This venue pro will be going back for the same reasons which have been found in this post.
1. No 4G. Just a UI change is not enough to switch phones and pay more per month as I had been using Android, and all the newest droids out there have way faster speeds that can even do video chat.
2. Keyboard is not that well integrated. Turns out the "fn" key and "shift" key are highly unpredictable, since it doesn't have any indicator that it's simply on or locked on. I mistyped more password than I did with the soft keyboard. Therefore, it's not worth the bulk.
3. Thoroughly unhackable. No SD Card slot access. No tethering trick. No screenshot trick.
6. This thing crashes. Unlike some other users here, mine crashes even when Wifi is off. The crashes are all random and not confined to Marketplace or 3rd party apps. If Dell was not so irresponsible, I would ask for an exchange instead of a return, but this is a dealbreaker to me.
I no longer feel confident with DELL. Furthermore, I dont like how we were treated throughout this launch, especially in a economy when spending 500+ dollars on a item is a luxury. I have purchased phones outright before and have never gone through a process like this.
I wanted to believe that this phone could of been more but if I wait until my 30 days are up I will be s### out of luck. I'll see what CES has up its sleeve.
This venue is definitely going back unless something miraculously happens with DELL or Microsoft regarding the phones OS. I doubt it though.

The phone syncs with Exchange not Outlook, 16GB is good for storage if all you want is music and videos, forget if you want other files and there is no explorer to find files anyways.
My company hides their SSID as many companies do, if you have the settings you can connect and my WM5 phones would connect but I can't with the latest and greatest from MS while people at my company with Android and iPhones connect with no issues.
For the money I spent I wasn't expecting a beta unit because this thing was not ready for primetime.
I'm keeping my 8GB model. I don't have any crashing issues whether or not WiFi is on.
It would be nice if the cam were better and there wasn't some slight hissing through headphones during quiet segments of music, but neither of these are deal breakers to me. Supposedly Dell is working on updating the cam software, but again, not a huge deal to me.
It it going back.
Dell support is no good and rude, most don't even know what the DVP is. Every step of my dealing with dell has been a pain from getting my phone to the 4 hours it took trying to get it activated with the rep from dell who kept trying to get me off the line so he could "call me back."
The phone is very nice but so not worth the hassle. Dell has given me the worst customer service I have ever had, no way in hell I am gonna be stuck dealing with them for the next 2 years.
Mine for some reason would not turn on unless I popped the battery multiple times. Kept losing service on the 2g/3g switch, photos were absolute trash.
I will miss what could of been, but this thing is going back. On to my iPhone.
Thanks To You All
Hi Ladies and Gents
I'm fairly new to these forums and just wanted to say thanks to you all for the great feed back on the DVP!! I'm from Canada, and as you all know we can't get the device up here unless we provide a US address...I've been working around this issue which I finally resolved, and now for the past 2 weeks or so have been going back and forth between the DVP or a Nexxus S. I soooo love the form factor of the DVP, but have decided that it's to risky to take a chance on getting a somewhat flawless device to work up here...it's going to take a lot of time and effort to get either of these devices, so I want to make the correct choice the first time....I to have had issues calling Dell just to try and figure out how to ship the darn thing, and have been bounced around so many times!!! Their CS is garbage...none of them know anything about the device!! I was willing to get it even with the RAM issues and the no multitasking/cut and paste, but all the other issues are just to great of a hurdle to jump. I know the Nexus S has it issues but it being pure Google, I know the support will be there...
Thanks Again for making a very hard decision that much easier, and good luck to you all whether you keep your DVP or send it back!!
Cheers!!

This is not true, there is a symbol next to the (left) battery indicator, an arrow for caps and keep pressing the arrow button for caps lock, the icon changes
same way there is an icon for fn key

Thanks for the tip. I was used to Android where the indicator is right at the cursor.
Already shipped it back in favor of my nexus S. Got tired of the constant crashes and decided I didn't want to be an early adopter of W7

think its interesting, well actually I think its funny really, and anyone on this thread with a long device history on this forum can attest, the actual reasons people give for liking or not liking a device. I extend that comment to the iPhone and nexus brands, as well as others. For example:
Crashes: every phone crashes. Everyone. Read the Engadget review about the crash macine....sorry , the nexus s. they all crash somewhere
..period
Camera: they all suck. If you're using a Dell but expect a Nikon , then your expectation sucks. Some are better, but none are good.
Configuration: don't even sit there and tell me what great configuration schemes Android has. The configuration is just as spacey on those devices too. How easy is it to get hotmail on iPhone? As easy as Google maps on wp7?
Cloud stuff: huh, what? Bottom line is it takes understanding and preparation. Once done, its done. Don't trust the Microsoft cloud, but trust the Google cloud...good luck with that.
Support: did someone sat Google support? I call bull****.
Best reason for returning the Dvp I have read so far is, "I tried the Nexus S, and it worked better for me". Great answer!!! Guy just stood up and said it. Cool. Not some bs answer like WiFi crashing...someone will find you over in some other forum posting about your other new phone crashing ...you know its true.
BTW, I heard the iPhone alarm still doesn't work, and what's this I'm reading about the latest undocumented feature on the Nexus. And the Incredible is doing what?? Droid!!! Great commercials.
I just like my Dell. I like my HD7 too. If you don't,that's fine...just watch the excuses...sorry, I mean reasons.
I want the one with the WiFi and most gb's.
Sorry for the rant...check out the other forums here and see if what I say isn't true!

Classic and spot on! The DVP isn't perfect, but its not the first, and won't be the last buggy phone to be released, and certainly if someone isn't happy with it they should return it. I tried an hd7, didn't like it and returned it, no fuss no muss. And I should say, I'm happy enough with mine and am keeping it, worst case scenario I use it for six months then get some other wp7 AWS device, if there ever is one.

Lol, this is your best point? An alarm clock?
How about WinPho 7 alarm not overriding the music volume and not even going off?
As for crashes I can count the amount of time my iPhone has crashed on 1 hand and the amount of time my nexus one has crashed on 2. I apologize if I want something to work when I buy it. The DVP wouldn't even power on in some cases without pulling the battery. I'm sorry but if the phone is a headache just to turn on then I don't want it. Perhaps you disagree, but there is no need to come in here on a high horse trying to dictate what we should expect from a phones camera, or general usage.
Do I expect a nikon?
No I expect something that can take a decent shot ala the iPhone/Nexus 1/Nokia N8. Obviously there are phones on the market capable of taking great shots,so why should I as a consumer expect lesser performance? If you like a half-ass phone then so be it.
It the DVP the worst phone on the market?
No there is much worst out there, but once again there is much better and as a consumer I am going to go with what is best. I returned mine and hopefully another company gets it right eventually. But honestly the argument that there are buggier phones is pathetic.

With this kind of reasoning you might as well be happy buying a Vertu.
"Hey, this thing takes photos, and can read gmail too!!!!!! I just like my Vertu. If you don't like it, you have a problem!!"
All that I said was that the DVP is bigger than I need, and the keyboard is not as advantageous as I thought it to be. The camera is objectively worse than many camera phones out there, and Dell does not inspire confidence on whether there will even be firmware fixes or not. It's all pretty logical, IMO.
Seriously, don't get offended when people compare it with iPhone or Nexus S. I already tried to be fanboy-sensitive by comparing it to Samsung Focus. But if my post induces potential buyer's remorse on you, it's not my problem. This thread is to be shared with those who already had our remorse.
I love this phone but am hoping that they fix the issues. Most of the bugs that people have should be fixable with a replacement device. The crazy thing is that the initial Engineering Sample that I had seemed to have the least issues. The 16GB model I have in my hands now crashes all the time so I am hoping that it is just a bad phone and when I get my replacement it works as expected.
I expect many will return their phones because of the whole exchange process which is frustrating to say the least.
personally as a non standard smartphone user i plan to keep the device barring hardware malfunction
not really a big talker or texter and i dont mind the crashes as long as they only happen once a day
i can see how a person might be upset though if they spent half a grand on a phone they can only use on tmobile that has issues
glad i didnt buy off contract even though ill be stuck on tmo for 2 years i can always get another phone that uses tmo bands at full price

Fascinate/Verizon Experience...

I don't know about the rest of you all but my experience with this phone and Verizon is not great. I expected the phone to be up to par with various other phones but its not. Its laughable how it hasn't even got the 2.2 update yet when some phones are already moving to 2.3 updates. Samsung is quite a let down! I will be buying the HTC Thunderbolt when it comes out (hopefully thats soon). It looks like it will be a lot like the EVO on Sprint which I love. Goodbye Samsung!
Well if your only complaint is you're .1 behind, I'd say your case is weak at best. Enjoy your Thunderbolt.

I have to agree that, out of the box, this phone is a huge disappointment. The screen is nice, but everything done to the software is atrocious. Although I like to play with ROMs and root my phone and all that, no one should HAVE to do that to have a good experience with an Android phone. The real fragmentation happening with Android is the fact that Google, through the AOSP, is letting manufacturers take a product that has become thoroughly refined and muck it up. If I was an average (non-techy) user, and my first experience of Android was the Fascinate, I would be TREMENDOUSLY let down. It is much different for computers where the crap we don't want may just take an extra hour or two to go through add/remove programs in Windows. The savings you will get on a PC easily justify this slight time waste. This is not the case with phones. Most people are a slave to the experience the manufacturer gives them, and often times this experience will shape your opinion of an overall product. Having owned a Nexus One, and having rooted/ROMed my original G1, I am fully aware of the experience Android is capable of. Sadly many people don't get to experience this and often get a watered down, murky presentation of what Android was/is meant to be.
I have owned many phones, HTC and others. I have never had such a great experience. I think this phone is terrific. The things I can do with this phone are outstanding. I like the look, the feel but especially what it can do. The camera is good, can take a picture of handwritten notes, almost anything that you want to recall later. The apps, camcard, camscanner, earth, smart tools, documents to go - it goes on and on. I really can't, at this point, image a better phone. It's the BEST.
Just to keep it short and sweet:
I love my Fascinate. I came from a Samsung Omnia II so the Windows Mobile > Android jump obviously has been like night and day.
I am however, on my second Fascinate (details here) simply because I had signal issues with my first one. Not Verizon's fault, not Samsung's fault, just a lemon. It happens. This new one has been great with battery life (24+ hours before needing a charge), I've always loved Samsung's camera software, and I've customized the hell out of the phone without even bothering to root it as I just haven't had a need to yet. And this is coming from someone who used to flash ROMs practically monthly with his Omnia II.
I don't live in a metro area so 4G will not get to my locale until 2013ish most likely. And for me, 3G speeds work perfectly fine for what *I* want to do on a phone on a daily basis and if I need WiFi speeds, it's there. I could've waited for a 4G phone or an iPhone, but personally, right now, this is the phone for me. Fast (and will get faster with 2.2), beautiful display, thin, customizable...
My coworkers have an LG Ally, an HTC Incredible, and a Motorola Droid X - I like my phone better and so do most of them
The beautiful thing about Android is that with each vendor's phones there are pros and cons. For me, this phone fits perfectly.
But, just to keep things in perspective, there are of course annoyances:
#1) Bing. My bypass is I have a Voice Search shortcut on my home screen to do voice searches (that go straight to Google) and I have my browser's homepage set to google.com. I never see Bing, but it's still an annoyance.
#2) Delay after delay of 2.2. This is just some sort of commercial/bureaucratic bs, but it still sucks and I'll be happier than I am now when we get it.

Lag During Text Messaging

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy s4. I have been encountering a very annoying problem. I am a heavy texter, I text over 10,000 texts per month. My primary phone has always been the iPhone and it is extremely smooth and amazing texting. However, I find it very annoying that when I am texting 2 people or more simultaneously on my samsung galaxy s4 I experience severe lag. For example if I'm typing a text message and and incoming text comes my phone lags. I remember experiencing this on the HTC Windows Phone 3 years ago and saw it was extremely annoying. I am very disappointed that such a new and expensive phone that is backed out with internal hardware cannot handle a text messaging conversation without having the experience significant lag. Very frustrated right now does anyone have a solution? I am very close to returning this phone and either getting a secondary iPhone or perhaps the HTC One.

Custom kernel and rom, fixed.
or just CM 10.1 if you want.
I was hoping that there was a solution other than Rooting the phone. I don't want to lose some of the Samsung features that would not function on roms.

there are TW roms, kernels, and other messaging apps. i have CPU set differently than stock (500mhz with screen off, 1.3ghz on), GoSMS pro and GoLauncherEX that i use, and TouchWizUI frozen along with lots of other stuff i dont use frozen. no lag that way. Stock ROM stock Kernel, rooted, debloated, SIM unlocked. Nova launcher is quicker than GoLauncher, but i like the GoLauncher interface and icons better.
With TW roms/kernel you need root, but wont lose TW stuff like smart view, air gesture, etc etc. also wont lose IR blaster function.
Also try freezing S-voice in TiBU, that made a heck of a difference for me.
So let me get this straight Samsung wants us to call up $600 for a SPECed out phone that can't properly send and receive text messages without lagging and freezing the phone. Also Samsung wants us to buy a phone that doesn't even have autocorrect on it stock keyboard! This is ridiculous these are basic functions of any phone. They should be worried more about providing us with these basic functions make them as glitch free as possible before they worry about adding stupid and useless functions such as hand gestures and infrared. Hey I'm just frustrated right now. Everyday its something new and annoying with this phone.

No, actually AT&T, Bell, Telus, and Virgin want that. Stock S4 ROM/UI is not as lag prone. Basic functions of a phone are some numbers, call and hang up features. And Autocorrect is patented in different forms, so that's an issue between the titans of mobiles an OS providers, whether it be software or hardware provider issues; maybe try a different messaging app. GoSMSpro has decent learning autocorrect. Others too.
Welcome to the 21st century, be glad your problems and issues are those of 1st world countries. Ive been/lived/worked in places that getting clean water is impossible and babies die every day of simple diseases or infections that here, in the 1st world, practically don't exist. And there are dozens of workarounds and ways to speed it up, etc. You bought the device; i hope you at least played with it first. Never buy anything sight unseen or without some foreknowledge about it.
The $600 you 'called up' (think you meant 'coughed up') is more than the worldwide median annual income. For a phone. Keep that in mind. Every time i start getting ticked at all the problems im having, i look at a picture i took some years back of kids in a village in Swaziland on a work trip; none survived a recent flu epidemic.

First let me say that I am a heavy believer in charity and taking care of the "third" world as well as your neighbors right in your neighborhood. However, I can't stand when people post the term 1st world problems. your post assumes that its a choice where only one option can operate at a time. That is, if OP complains about a device he spent good money on he is suddenly out of touch and showing a lack of concern for various global sufferings. Or, on the other hand, if he has concerns for other folks around the world he should just shut up and put up with a sub par product. C'mon. Why can't he complain legitimately about something he spent his hard earned money on and still be concerned about third world problems. For all you know he may be funding a well in Africa, supporting and AIDS research initiative, giving his time/money in some form. You just don't know. He has what money God or whatever you want to believe provided for him, he can spend it as he sees fit and if he spent it in a premium product that fails to deliver the promised premium experience let him complain without trying to be the moral police.

Actually if you venture into these third world countries Samsung makes phones, which are downgrade cheaper models that's have touch wiz without Android and they cost almost nothing but send and receive text messages more efficiently and with no lag ass compared to their flagship phone samsung galaxy s4 which cost me over $600 since I got the 32 gig model. So I wish Samsung wasn't ripping people off and advertising this as the next big thing because I'm pretty sure my iphone 3G didn't lag when sending and receiving text messages. And that was 4 years ago.

Many things it could be. I dont see the issue you describe on my Note II. I would be very irritated like you if I did. You might have to go back to the iphone. I would try returning the s4 first though. Careful about the apps you install as well. Free is rarely free.

I had a note 2 as well and that phone was simply amazing. In my opinion that is the best built phone the Samsung has ever come out with. It is also the best Android phone. It's billed very sturdy and solid and the software is excellent. Till this day I have never experienced any lag with it or any slow down despite any applications I have installed. Based on this reliability and the amazing job Samsung did with the note 2 I assumed that's a much more speced out phone such as the samsung galaxy s 4 which is a newer model would be just as stable and lag free as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Boy was I wrong.
