My Sad Note 4 Story and Why You Should Care - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

Hey guys! Let me start off by saying the XDA community has been awesome since day 1 in 2011. Many modded phones all thanks to these forums. If anybody can figure out a root for our device it's this community! I know this is a bit of a long post but I would really appreciate as many eyes on this as possible. If anything you might learn from my mistakes.
So I pre ordered my White Verizon Note 4 on 9-25. It arrived on 10-23 like most everybody who pre ordered. Those who did not follow the debacle some people did not get their phones until the 31st (especially white ones) with stores lucky to even have 1 in stock. Naturally when my phone arrived I was very excited to be part of the small percentage of early lucky ones. I setup my phone, transferred my 64gb Samsung PRO SD Card full of pictures and started test driving my new devices. On 10-24 I boarded a cruise off the coast of California (San Pedro) to Ensenada, Mexico. I took my new phone with me in hopes of taking some wonderful pictures to show off to the community and highlight some of the phones great features. The first night on board after several pictures the day before and day of (not counting any previous on my SD card) I realized after dinner my phone was missing. Looked all over and of coarse no luck. Lost and found never saw it to this day. Android Device Manager is useless without a signal or internet connection so the phone was essentially lost. I keep my phone unlocked since I don't have any privacy issues and it's always with me so whoever found it had access to all my pictures and information.
Now onto the part of why you should care.... When I lost my phone I'm willing to bet there were less than a hundred white note 4's in the Los Angeles area. So naturally I suspected my phone will pop up on eBay sooner or later. At this point the loss of the phone is a wash (insurance provided a replacement... granted they don't have any white ones in stock so I had to settle for a black but better than nothing). It's my precious pictures I was more concerned about since they were of family, trips, friends, life memories. I was hoping whoever found the phone would dial my wife's number which is saved on the first screen as a direct dial and at least offer to return the pictures if anything else. So no Android Device Manager track and nothing suspicious on eBay. You could say all is lost give up and move on with your replacement device.... Until I noticed 2 posts .. 1 created the day after my cruise return by someone who just signed up to xda forums. That post was titled "Verizon Note 4 on Straight Talk" and the other "Verizon Note 4 on T Mobile". In both of these posts in these forums the OP describes wanting to use their White Verizon Note 4 devices on a different carrier. One of them even claiming they bought the phone on Amazon (who really buys a Verizon Note 4 on amazon only to activate it on T Mobile or Straight Talk?). I think the timing of all this and the lack of White Verizon Note 4's out there leads to me to believe one of these posters found and stole my phone. Call me crazy but I'm riding my gut on this one. Could I be wrong? Of coarse but I think the odds are not that far off. I lost my phone when nobody had a White Verizon Note 4. I asked both of the OP's if their phone had a bad ESN or clean ESN playing coy and neither one of them responded. So I have no real proof just a little bit of leg work on my part and logic problem solving. Why you should care? well simple... as a community we are supposed to band together and help each other out. That's why we are here. We offer support to each other about the device. I would hope that in the unfortunate event somebody from the forums looses their phone and it's picked up by another forum member the mutual respect is there to return the device. I want to bring attention to this unfortunate event to hopefully shed light for someone in the future. If anything learn from my mistake and lock your phone down. For reference here are the 2 posts:

Thank you guys for listening to me vent. I am also offering a $1,000 reward for the return of my pictures no questions asked. Some of those pictures have huge sentimental value. If anybody has any information that would help by all means don't hesitate. If anybody knows anything about the phones or OP's in the above posts especially the straight talk one let me know. I realize I could be wrong and this could all just be wishful thinking but given the value of the pictures I lost it's worth it to be wrong and try.
As an idea I thought about calling straight talk, t mobile, and some other carriers and providing my imei or esn to see if my phone has been activated on their network. I don't know if this is information they would actually share but it was a thought. Any insight?
On a much happier note (pun intended lol) we did have a wonderful trip and managed to take more pictures with my wife's note 3 and a canon camera we bought along just in case. My replacement device was from assurion and it was brand new. The phone has been awesome so far. So if you happen to have my phone and you saw my pictures and still didn't bother to return it karma's gonna get you one day.
Funny side story: While on the cruise I was joking around with my wife and friends telling them I was reading peoples faces on the cruise. If anybody saw my pictures and saw me walk by them their facial reaction would be a dead give away. No luck lol but it was a fun drinking game.

I'm really sorry to hear about what happened to your white galaxy note 4, I really do hope that whoever took it would at least return your pictures to you.

There isn't a worse feeling than someone stealing something from you. Whether it be a scam or physically in person stealing. Karma really is a b***ch. They will get theirs!! I got my white note 4 on Oct 22nd and I can't imagine losing it. After reading your story I'm going to back up my pictures and videos right now! Lol. Sorry for the misfortune you encountered ; (

I think there are more white note 4's out there than you think there are..
I had no problem getting one.

Actually there aren't... Or should I say weren't until the 31st...unless you preordered online before they got backordered to (ship by 31st) the stores didn't have white note 4s anywhere. I called Verizon stores in 5 surrounding cities including 2 big corporate stores in NEW York city. No one had them and rarely did anyone had any information about when they will have them. The only info I had was Verizon site said ship by 10/31

Wow that really sucks, I'm pretty sure once Verizon locks the ESN that phone cannot be activated...
Sent from my SM-N910V using XDA Free mobile app

Locking your phone wouldn't have helped anyways. Anyone on this forum can get into the stock recovery and factory reset a phone. Always keep the box or paperwork showing the phone pertinence....

Wow that really sucks. . . Sorry for your loss.
I never understood the criminal mind on why they are so hell bent on stealing something which isn't theirs. I hope you are able to get the pictures back as those memories can never be reproduced. Losing pictures myself of my late grandmother has made me religiously back up everything from now on.

okay well after reading your post you do have some lifelines left.
1. http://findmymobile.samsung.com
2. there are 2x Device Administers preauthorized on your phone, set by the carrier, that can be accessed to recover it. Lookout, and Keeper.
3. if they are still signed in to your google account (hopefully they have plans to hack you and haven't removed you from it yet), you can push apps to devices via Remote-Play installation at play.google.com. I would use AndroidLost, it can do amazing things even without root. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlost
4. Google+ sync, that damn bloatware you can't uninstall is still on your poor note4 lagging some poor thiefs phone down. it may be autosyncing pictures, check your Google+. also consider changing sync settings on the google play website. if he connects to Wi-Fi it will start syncing all your pictures in the background with no consideration for your data (trust me), and "best of all" google+ will never notify the notification bar! (glad I got that out of my system)
5. social engineering. try reasoning with that guy on xda, you don't need to meet in some back alley to return the physical sd card, the internet it's a thing. if google drive won't do the trick filedropper.com can do 5gig files at a time and isn't very tractable.
6. if he's looked at your gmail, the ip address with approximate location data will be stored in your gmail's activity logs, viewable at the bottom of the page.
Google Now, as well as google maps, and google+ all constantly updated your geolocation, it's hidden to others but can be viewed in your "Location History", as well as the section of google maps that periodically tells you how far youve walked/biked/driven over the past week.
7. my phone is about to die so I'll just leave you with this last one; if you decide to cut your losses, remember you can get a stolen phone's imei blacklisted, so your thief's dreams of a new note4 on StraightTalk will be shutdown (even with root he won't be able to get around that).
good luck with everything, I'll say a prayer everything works for you.

Sorry to hear and I know the feeling. I pray you get this resolved and get the pics back. I have thousands of pics of my two kids and if I lost them it would kill me.
One thing I do know, in the end whoever did this will reap what they have sewn
Prayers your way in any event

awesome a lot of great info there I did not know about. Unfortunately the phone is offline and cannot be tracked. It's been offline since I lost it. I think they got the phone and pulled the battery out. Not sure what they are going to do with it after since they need my gmail password for factory reset but if they are savvy enough and forum members they know how to get into recovery and reset the phone. Gmail logs have nothing interesting in them and I don't use Google+ or any social media. Google location history just shows where I've been with my replacement device and temp devices I activated upon return. Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!

Sorry for your loss, especially the precious pictures. I could imagine the feeling.
I would think if it's any consolation, that upon reporting your phone lost/stolen that the ESN# on that phone should have become reported and nullified so whoever the jerk is that ended up snatching it up should now have an MP3 player and camera at best.
Or maybe I'm wrong on how this works.

[Q] Sprint Voice & SMS Network DOWN (WI) !!

Well its back up right now (i think) i dont have any one to call right now but the network was down until 20:45~20:50 CST in SE WI. my friend called me on a land-line and told me he was trying to call me. The data on my phone worked the hole time. But 99.9% of out going calls failed and 100% incoming calls failed 100% SMS fail!!!!! I did get two calls to go threw to a AT&T land-line
NOW HEARS THE PROBLEM (SPRINT CAN YOU HEAR ME!) why cant Sprint have emailed us all i understand ith happens and stuff brakes & goes down BUT WHY THE HELL couldn't they of EMAILED us all to let us know that people would not be able to get a hold of us with are SPRINT PHONES!!!!!!
Check the "No data 3G" & the other problem you had on the poll if your data & voice/sms was down.
So lets hears it how many people had no Voice/SMS today? And it would be nice to put your State/City or the Area your in.
Thanks i just kinda want to see the numbers
I'm so ready to go back to Verizon 6 years with them & never a problem (but i REALLY like my Epic :-/ )

WOW i guess theirs no one on hear from Wisconsin, Any how i got a free mouth from them They still suck and i am pissed they did not even email us about it and i may still just dump them and go with. U.S. Cell or back to Verizon
Sorry for your troubles. It's odd, even in the nationwide Sprint outages, I never had any issues. I must be in the one area where things don't break.
EDIT: Not in WI, just sayin'.

I don't follow.
127.0.0.1 loopback ;-)
Roam Control is the fix. Force your phone off the sprint network.
Humm I would have got the app if I had known about it on Friday :-/ but now that its back up idk if I really need it.
So I take it your a fan of the app, has it saved ur phone calls when sprint went down before?
I use roam control while I am at work since I only get 1 bar to nothing while there if I am on sprint but if I switch to roaming I have full signal. Also helps out a lot with battery too. If I leave it on auto I leave work with 20% left and that's with out using my phone. If I switch to roaming I usually leave with a lot more left.

Cool sounds like that would help my battery when my ohone is sitting on my main PC desk. Its always going back andforth. I know there's. A ton of USB ports there but why plug it in every time iam using my computer.
P.S. its the $3.99 app in the markit ?
I had no issues at all (or any other time, really, except maybe once, and that issue was specific to the Hero). I'm not in SE WI, I'm up near Green Bay. Though looking at the link to the Sprint site it looks like I would have been affected as well. But I had no issues at all. And frankly, even if it was down, I didn't notice.
And I don't really see what you're getting so upset about to be honest. Yeah, it sucks when stuff goes down, but I think the "I"M GOING BACK TO VERIZON" statement was a little extreme. Have you had other problems with Sprint? All in all, it was down for what, 10 minutes? That's nothing. The longest I ever had an issue was back when I still used the stock ROM on my hero, and MMS wasn't working for a few weeks. Honestly, though, what good would them sending an email have done? That late in the evening, most people are eating, or out doing whatever (bars, partying, etc), not checking their email, so by the time most people got the email, the issue would already have been resolved. And they did put out a tweet from @sprint, their official account : http://twitter.com/sprint. Sure, it's not really a channel most people follow, and probably one of the last places people would expect to look, but the point is that they acknowledged the issue. And it looks like the whole 10 minutes you were affected was actually far less than others, I read some users stating that the outage lasted all day.
Basically, what I'm saying is that I've had a solid experience with Sprint the last 3 years or so, I'm not going to switch carriers just because of something like this. They've always been super nice about giving me credits for all sorts of things, ringtones/games that I couldn't transfer from one phone to another, and a few other issues. I feel like their customer service has always been top notch for me, and one day of not being able to talk/text is really no big deal for me.

Yeah it is the one in the market for $3.99. Just make sure you plan is set up for roaming otherwise you might end up with charges you didnt plan on. Especially when it comes to data roaming.

I feel like their customer service has always been top notch for me, and one day of not being able to talk/text is really no big deal for me.

I see your points, But it was down for hours on a Friday NOT 10 minutes & the 3G was still up so i would have seen said email. This has not been Totally fixed yet Visual Voicemail is down right now. You can leave me a vmail & i will get it if i dial 1 on the phone but theirs no notification that you have x number of vmails
So if your phone is having voice mail problems its most likely NOT your phone and its still sprint having problems. One sprint tech told me it was the hole U.S. and another tech said it was still from Fridays (SE WI) problem & that they are still working to fix it
SirRipo your right its not really getting that upset about its just a phone
For me I have everything to complain about when it comes to Sprint service. This outage that just happened on friday night really set me over the top. The only thing that I'm happy about is the fact that it affected lots of people and not just people in my "neighborhood". I live in South Milwaukee, WI and there is a tower somewhere near my house that FAILS at least 3 to 4 times a year. And when it fails I'm not saying hours of service lost, I'm talking DAYS!!! Every time it happens I call Sprint and they do a test on the towers in my area and I hear the same reply out of their mouths when they figure out the problem, they say, "wow, now that's not a good thing" Well if it's not a good thing then why does it continue to happen every 3 months or so. And the sucky thing about it is the fact it usually happens for the entire weekend. At first I thought that was happening all over again, but this issue was different and affected lots of people. So I guess my question is if this happens again, which I know it will from the track record, do you think I would be able to opt out of my contract without having to pay a termination fee? Sprint says that it's up to the customer service rep that handles my termination of service call whether or not I would be charged a fee or not. The way I see it is if the service continues to fail where I live for days on end why should I have to pay a fee? I know that T-Mobile has 4G up and running here in Milwaukee with the HSPA+ and Sprint doesn't have 4G here at all, and who knows now long it's going to take them to get it. Sprint in my area either works, and works very well, or it's just not there at all, there is no in between.
jaygraffix Thats BS!
i was with sprint years back & i was never happy with them then but i thought that maybe things have changed. I have some time in my 30 days left to dump there ass, I just thought the price was right. (and i love the Epic) But after this BS and hearing jaygraffix problems in a city just a little south of me that i'am in all the time i just may have to move on to there competition.
The fact is sprint nextel is a multi billion dollar corporation and its not going to hit there bottom line to completely replace the tower by jaygraffix house! And i should not have to talk with 6 sprint reps about the VVM not working today & have the finale rep offer me a hole $8.00 credit when the Tech support rep i was talking to before OFFERED ME $25.00 WTF and because i wanted to talk with a CS manager (and did) he only gives me the $8 WTF! less than the guy i was talking to before him! NOW TELL ME YOU WOULD NOT BE PISSED AFTER THAT HAPPENED TO YOU
Maybe if every one in SE WI would dump them all on the same day they would take a hint! (fees & all be DAMED) When i started this tread i was really hoping to see 1000's of hits on the poll but i guess there are just not that many people on this forum from around my area. I Totally see now why Verizon costs what it does.

My experience purchasing a Nexus S at Best Buy today.

I went in today to get my girlfriend a Nexus S since it's free on contract today for my girlfriend. The girl that helped me had an ass worthy of a human sacrifice.
Her other assosiate stated that they had one more left but it came preinstalled with an Invisishield and that is have to pay additional for it. I told her I wasn't interested and then asked her why they would open a new phone and tamper with it without the customers consent. I would have let their little commission scam slide if the protector was put on properly. The shield looked like a righty broke his arm and and put the screen protector on with his left. It had more bubbles than an ice cold Coke.
I declined and they ripped the.protector off and threw it out. I thought it was pretty funny and wondered if any of you guys ran into that. I'm going to check the phone when I get home to make sure I don't have any water damage.

I had to drive an hour and a half to get my wife's new upgrade as the local Best Buy stores in my area do not carry T-Mobile. So it was off to Raleigh. But the Best Buy Phone store was very nice and so were the sale associates. I think it was a great deal.
Picked up my freebee today from BB, would you believe, it took 3 1/2 hours !!!!
Everything was going wrong at the store .. problems activating, problems with my account, continuous calls to AT&T & BB Corporate .. it was basically a nightmare.
To top it all off, in the process or trying to activate the damn phone, they completely rubbed my wife's phone off AT&T's system !!! Wife has iPhone 4 that was now dead in the water. Call my wife's phone, nothing, states # disconnected !!! Another 1 hour on the phone with AT&T Business Enterprise trying to get wifes # back & iPhone re-activated.
I sent the BB Store Manager (who I know personally) & Corporate BB Mobile a nasty a$$ email explaining the complete ordeal there at his store and my issues afterwards of what his BB employees did to my AT&T account.
Let's see what response I get from that.

I went today to take charge while my dad and brother got them. My dad's has the new version of the market, but my brother's has the old version. Anyone know why that would be the case? Could my dad's just have been newer product?
Some people suck. Thats why I do most of my shopping online haha

No. The market update is totally random. If you had him do a few factory resets it'll get pushed to his device. Say 3 out of 7 resets results in the market update.

How are the recent CM7 nightlies running on the Nexus S(no 4G)? I've got to root my dad's so he can have tethering. I have an Inspire so I don't keep up around here.
Picked one up today without issue. Although I may be returning this. Not sure its a good replacement for the EVO.

same here, was not aware that the signal problem would be that bad for me, it is.
although service hasn't cut or anything, i do not like seeing no bars, and only a 3g icon, at all. I loved the feel of my original Nexus however, and wanted that back, on top of that, I just need a 2nd phone to do code **** on.
my day? 12 hours worth of trying to get my Nexus S.
9am: post on XDA
10am: go to store, see what the deal is, BB site told me i was eligible for a partial upgrade
10:30: deuche at BB looks my stuff up, tells me since im at partial upgrade it would only be 75$ off the 549 price. I laughed.
10:40: I explain that my friend bought his evo the day after i did, we both left tmobile for sprint, few days after EVO3d release, my buddy and I go into sprint store to pay whatever for a 3d. They give him a 3D for 199.99, no plan change, no plan upgrade, no premier gold membership. no issues.
dude insist that he did not, and that im lie'ing, and know nothing of what i was talking about, because that defitnally would not of happened that way, and if anything, I can buy an Evo3D for 4something with my partial discount
i tell this guy ima bout to f**king kill him for telling me i dont know what im talking about, i was WITH HIM. turn around and leave.
11: call sprint. get transferred 3 times to handle why my buddy got that scenario, yet im not eligible.
Lady was so nice, sounded young, sweet, and most importantly, smart-understanding-and well informed. Tells me she can "buy up" upgrade my plan, and start fresh witha new 2 year contract, and that i would be eligible for any phone at new 2 year price, my plan was upgraded by i think $10, but could have been $20. I also get a discount for being a "UPS employee" * so i dont care to pay a small difference.
12: She tells me "IT WILL TAKE UP TO 2 HOURS TO TAKE PLACE" she makes it VERY clear, keep texting 1311 with "upgrade" for the next 2 hours, when it goes through, Ill know. She'll also have an email sent to confirm it processes.
3pm: still nothing, have to leave for IT work, keep texting upgrade
4:30pm: tech work done, keep texting upgrade
-im a patient person, friendly, do excellent customer support, I understand hostile people, so i am not one of them, with 3rd party customer support-
5: I call sprint. 3 people later, 2 of languages I can not understand english from 60year smoking veterans cough. 3rd lady is of your typical "Tyqueisha" attitude for her type of name, you know what im saying.
She tells me "day shouldn't have told u 2 hours, it will take up to 48 hours", but she "just axed her managa and she says im in a waiting list to get it done so just sit tyte it'll come threw for'ch'u"
5:30: off phone with sprint, pissed. start calling best buys around my area to locate if they even have any
6:30: many 10-25 minute waiting on hold before talking to anyone, i try calling further away stores, but ask them to look up specifics.
- I used to work at best buy, geek squad, 2 years. I know when they look up stuff on "RSS" that usually its off by about 2 hours, so a quick way to tell someone to piss off, is to tell them another store that RSS says is in stock, to get off the phone quickly, and to again, piss off caller X -
7:20: I think I locate one, about 30 minutes away, compared to the 7 minutes away.
7:40: I call my 7 minute away store, and have been on hold for 20 minutes, finally get someone - I ask them to check RSS - knowing - "no apparently were out"
7:45: Still texting upgrade - Nothing yet
7:50: Try calling store that i think the Nexus S is at, get on hold. Wait 5 min, hang up, ill assume its there.
7:55: call sprint. get transferred up 3 people - dude is so sorry, guarantee that it will be on in 30 minutes, hes walking to his supervisor to pass it on right now, no more problems, no call backs, 100% positive, 30 minutes.
8:10: I figure, hell, I know RSS is always wrong, ill drive to my 7 minute store, make an employee call direct to other stores, find me, ill drive fast to taht store, real, real fast.
8:17: in best buy, huge, huge line. wait in it for about 5 minutes, go seek a manager, because if im gonna wait there, I want to know its there, if it is, ill wait.
8:25: im still waiting for floor manager to come back, lemme know whats up, i walk over to mobile area, he's passing out 'store tickets' to help assign inventory to people waiting.
i walk up to him like "dude, you better say your about to walk one of those last 2 in your hands for me back there"
he stutters.. tells me he was, but stuttered because he wsent sure if it was me walking up to him, from the area i was in. I laugh, say sure, take the ticket.
8:30:8:35ish - text upgrade - nothing! nothing! there about 12 people in line in front of me, I apoligize to the few people around me, for what was about to happen.
--
i call sprint. i inform them to read the notes, they've been keeping track, and that i am waiting in line, as today, as they know, is the only day of the deal, the notes show i was promised 2 hours, then promised 30 minutes, 8 hours ago. I tell them if i get to the front of the line, and they don't have an solution for me, that it would turn into my last phone call with sprint, and the end of my sprint developer account as well, oh BTW, this is also 4 people up, from my initial person i spoke with when i called.
thats not all i said, but thats the just of it, i had the attention of every person in line the whole time, demonstrating exactly what a very smart real-mean-asshole-jerk, actually is, in person.
--
8:50pm: Whoever, at Sprint was, tells me 5 minutes, ten TOPS. ill have a text, and it will be activated. he is with his supervisor, and are going to do it, as soon as im off the phone.
5 minutes later, only 3 people moved out of the line, i keep texting upgrade.
5 minutes later - it happens. it actually takes the ten minutes, that prick.
by this time, best buy closed.
I walk out , with my nexus S , at 9:50, 2nd to last customer out of the store.
my outcome:
nexus S reception sucks compared to EVO, atleast in comparison to visually seeing bars on screen.
2 of the employee's bought my weed icon apps.
Sweet, I get a new phone to test stuff on, and make $1.40 from selling apps in person, lost 12 hours of my life.
worth it? you tell me.
sprint, this isn't over.
im sorry for anyone that reads all of that, but that is really how it went down, and i hope someone at sprint may some day see it, and just say "damn, sucks for you dude!" and laugh all the way to the bank.

You're lucky it was done same day. Turn around time on buyups are 24-48 hours as it's a backend team that does them in the order they are received. Couple hundred resets a day that must be verified for accuracy and that qualifications are met, 10 backend members doing them and the other thousand things they have to do as well. Sucks for the hassle though.

I hate talking to ghetto people at Sprint. It pissed me off more than the reps that don't speak English and get mad at you because you can't understand a word they say.

I really need to say this because it hasn't been reflected by the forum recently

Sprint support is NOT terrible. I know that as humans, our minds tend to remember negative experiences for much longer than positive ones, and I know that people don't come to XDA to share when things are working, but I just had a wonderful session with a tech. I don't remember his name, but I do remember the amount of dedication he put forward for this problem. After having issues with receiving text messages for whoever knows how long, we speculated since I installed Google Voice and then uninstalled it, then not being able to send texts, I Odin'ed back to good old EC05 while re-partitioning and clearing my EFS. I don't know if it was this that broke things, doubt it, but then I tried to make a voice call for the first time in a few days. It failed with an error number 16 and then some switch number. I tried calling the phone and it told my that the Google Voice subscriber (who is me) was unavailable. After thinking 'WTF HAVE I DONE TO THIS!!!!!' for a few minutes I Google'd error 16. It involves fraud, ESN cloning, and running S-OFF (to root) on HTC EVOs. Normally they all got fixed by calling Sprint. I called and the rep removed GV completely from the account. That didn't work. After an hour of resets, refreshes, and trials, he created an E-ticket for me to get a replacement. During this time I had been Googleing the error 16 more. It said something about a CHLS reset. I'm not a rep but I mentioned that we should try it. He said that it had been done earlier but he was eager to try it again. At this point, if I had been handling the call, I would probably be pissed. The called wants me to try something I did half an hour ago. But nope, this rep was perfectly fine with my suggestion. This time it worked and I had all connections restored. I thanked him graciously and asked if, now that we were done, I could ask about the switch to LTE. He told me that he didn't have official information but he would tell me what he had heard/knew. He said that from what he knows that LTE and WiMax will coexist together, perhaps with dual band devices. We laughed at the battery usage of that but he did tell me that Sprint is looking to compete with Verizon for LTE coverage. That's exciting news for me, whether or not it is accurate. Verizon is getting LTE in Delaware, I know there is some 15 miles away from me, and that would be great.
TL;DR for this post: Sprint support is helpful and we only hear about negative experiences. I'm not saying that all calls end well, but we need to remember that every rep is different. There are people who are just doing their job, and there are people who do their job well. From my experience, the latter is much more common.
No they really do suck! All the way up to Executive services...they have locked down the ability to give any benefits to unsatisfied customers and they will straight up lie to cover their asses. They don't give a crap about the customer anymore. I have talked to a few that were nice however they were incompetent, so you can't have it both ways.
though the few support situations i've been in involve a sprint store, although they were kinda uninformed and just kept to the script and ended up being non-helpful both times, i won't say it was a good or bad experience. I'm glad to see someone giving them there props when their do to receive them.

wow Kenny, surely you don't lump all of us techs into that. I believe myself to be very competent, and I am certainly honest and straightforward.
And the "ability to give any benefits to unsatisfied customers" is pretty ridiculous as it generally sets unreasonable expectations for customers, especially those who then act as if courtesies and favors are expected to be given all the time.
Plus it's just good penny pinching. What do you expect from a company about to spend 10+ billion in the next year and half.

I had a similiar problem awhile back but mine was with not being able to make calls while out of my home area in certain areas was kinda weird but I had 3g and 4g though. Long story short there was a special network reset on sprints end that fixed it for me and maybe it was a chls. This did also occur to me after efs clear.

Okay, yeah, the store people suck. I've never had to call more than once for anything though, whether it was a replacement or even sorting out connection issues. All of the stores I've been in were rude. Ones in NY last time I was there blew me off with a 'hey yo sorry bro but we're busy here and you'll have to leave the phone with us for 4 hours but i dont think you want to do that'. The local store laughed at my mothers call dropping and said that if she can make and receive calls they don't need to help. I guess 5 second connections count as calls. Anyway, maybe I've been lucky! I had issues with Sprint TV and got a discount on my bill because it wasn't at all what I wanted.
Every time i had to call tech support i had a extremely nice and helpful person on the other end they even offered to throw me some credit to my account when my first epic had problems right out of the box and another time with my towers in my area were down for 24 hrs they credited 20 to my account the only bad experience i had was when i went inot the sprint store the on-site tech had absolutely no effin clue how to fix gps on my phone i was trying to calibrate it but it wouldnt lock (first epic right out of the box) he just had no clue about anything and when i showed him some stuff on the epic i got "oh i didnt know it did that" or "ill have to remember that for future troubleshooting" seriously they should really check these guys out before they hire them dude didnt know anything about Android and he was the lead android tech lol

The people on the other end of the phone are people to, occasionally it can be hard to remember that when they know less than you do...after all, they supposedly do this for a living day in and day out.
The last time I called Sprint it was to add a Canadian calling plan and to ask what the roaming data rate was while in Canada. Both of these items required an inordinate number of transfers and when transferred the person on the other end of the line was clearly baffled as to why I would have been transferred to them. Both items seemed to be a rather simple request as far as I was concerned considering they were very happy to charge me for these services. I would have been happy to use the Internet to do this but the option was grayed out when I logged into my account and the data rate was posted in 5 different sections of the web site at 5 different amounts.
My Sprint cellular service is good in STL and the price (including discount) is marvelous but boy-oh-boy I don't know how these guys keep the lights on.
-sigh-...I suppose it is depressing how little my colleagues know.

Geez, if I had known this would create such a controversy I never would have said anything. I never said that corporate Sprint decisions were good, I never said that I wouldn't like more power to be given to the reps, I only said that we should appreciate those who actually have the capability and training to help out those of us who need it. I know that not everybody is helpful. I also know that if this is how we act on by far one of the nicest XDA sub-forums that exists right now, imagine what these reps must be exposed to every day. If they are less than satisfactory, I wonder how they got that way. It couldn't be years of no appreciation, could it? I never meant to deny the trouble people have had with the support system, but bring some positive to the highly hostile attitude towards Sprint employees. The ones who take the flak aren't the ones who are causing problems. /rant

wow Kenny, surely you don't lump all of us techs into that.

No Squishy, definitely present company accepted. And up until a year ago everything was rosy with me an Sprint but something happened in corporate that turned the whole picture sour. Customer service was no longer first. Reps that actually wanted to help said their hands were tied. When I lost a $2000 job that I would have made in 1 days work because of an Airave upgrade Sprint denied it all the way up to Hesse's office. The Airave tech said an update had just went through and caused all calls in my home to go directly to voicemail. After resetting the Airave it was working again. I compained and asked for a simple courtesy to get an early upgrade or just move the date, or just get one more yearly update that they took away, I was told by Executive services that there is no record of an Airave update and my phone lost sync with the tower. After explainging that I had no problem outside of airave range they still stuck to their lie as to prevent a lawsuit on the loss of income. That is a bunch of assh&les to me.
It must be mind numbing to park yourself in that Confederacy of Dunces day in and day out. On the flip side I bet dealing with the public likely makes you want to kill yourself some days.
I'm not even asking that the guy on the end of the phone know anything really....I always assumed, based on how many times I get put on hold, that all a CSR needs is enough time and cerebral ability to type my question into the computer and read me back the answer. It's when this process breaks down that I get pissy.
In all fairness to Sprint it's as bad (or good) as any other consumer tech company I deal with regularly. Obviously not all Sprint CSRs are bad apples but why-oh-why does Sprint's ratio of spoiled fruit seem so high?

The last time I called Sprint it was to add a Canadian calling plan and to ask what the roaming data rate was while in Canada. Both of these items required an inordinate number of transfers and when transferred the person on the other end of the line was clearly baffled as to why I would have been transferred to them. Lol att cell does the same thing when you want to add foreign service plans and are baffled to lol. Att internet customer support are a bunch of retards they don't even know what services they sell. You have to call 5x in order to get the service you already knew you were available to get. All the corporations are just ridiculous. Its not just one its ALL OF THEM.........

My question is, if we know so much more about these devices than the people they are paying to troubleshoot the devices when we have a problem...why the hell aren't WE the one's working at Sprint??
Well, to answer my own question I guess, I see how ruffled feathers get when a noob wanders in asking dumb questions, how many here would volunteer to deal with nothing but noobs all day long?
Well, to answer my second question- I suppose it is easier dealing with noob 'problems' than tracking down a bug in a kernel or a glitch in a ROM UI, but these are fun activities for most self-taught programmers, as opposed to dealing with someone wondering why their phone 'won't work' (however vague that claim is!) probably drives you up a wall..still, if it paid well..where can I sign up? I need a job...lol
My experience with Sprint CustServ so far has been mixed- mostly because if you can't show someone how your phone is misbehaving, and they aren't smart enough to understand what you are describing- troubleshooting is impeded to say the least. On the whole though, the Epic was more trouble than the reps. I'm on my fourth one..

Honestly, most of us don't care about your pleasant experience at sprint. The fact remains, the service is mediocre at best and the data is slower than my dead grandmother. Post something most can relate to in the future. Mmmk?

Cool story bro you should tell it agan...
I can't relate to your "mediocre" experience at Sprint. Next time post something I can relate to yeah?
I have to say I have had nothing but good experiences with Sprint Customer Support. (crosses fingers)
A bill issue was resolved fast and easily, and a couple issues with my phones were resolved in a way I was satisfied with.
Given my interactions with Comcast, Verizon, and several other IT companies, I have to give Sprint props, as they were better then all the others, as least in my experience.
As someone that deals with IT calls from irate customers quite often, I feel that a lot of the interactions issue are as much an issue with the customer, as it is with Sprint.
As always... YMMV

FTW. Sometimes I get so mad at them that I want to cancel my service immediately. Other times, they're the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Had to go into the store, waited something like 45 minutes for an associate to help get my kids phone changed over. He was very polite and apologetic... then I've had chats where they promised the unwanted service that kept coming back....took three bill cycles to resolve....
Mostly I've had good experiences with them. But I'm low maintenance....
ive got 2 great corp. stores near me. most of the techs and front end people are rooted. i go in there and we talk about rooting, samsung and bada, apple hatred, all that good stuff. mostly nothing but good experiences here. if any one here is having trouble with sprint, try this number. no hold times, a live english speaking person, and typically, they are somewhat experienced.

Petition for Galaxy Note/Journal on Verizon

So, I started a petition for Verizon to carry the Note/Journal. Got around 1000 sigs so far as I write this.
I'm new post-wise so I can't link, you will have to go to change.org and do a search for Verizon Galaxy Note or somesuch. If you Google it you'll get a couple of 2nd and 3rd-tier phone sites talking about it.
I didn't trust the "source" at CES who was so sure VZW would get it, and I haven't heard anything since. I know AT&T has an exclusivity period, I know it's a fairly large initial investment, and I know VZW needs a valid business case to go forward with any new device. I'm sure that if they are still considering it, they're watching to see how sales are at AT&T. Just to let everyone know I'm being rational and not expecting miracles. I do feel, however, that with a sensible argument along with a somewhat noticeable number of petitioners, this could go somewhere.
I have a couple of corporate email addresses (handsets, product distribution, and corporate strategy) and I plan to let them know where I/we are coming from. If you're interested, go sign, and thanks in advance!
zeno
Verizon retail people (who never know anything factual) claim it's an "internet rumor" only. Don't hold our breath.
I've been a Verizon customer for eleven years but I'll switch carriers to get the Note if it comes to that. I'll give it until maybe June and if I don't learn anything more definitive: I'm going to AT&T.
Dan
I agree, VZW sales don't know anything until corporate tells them, usually about 5 minutes beforehand. I don't feel bad saying this because most VZW employess admit as much. I did get hold of the person at corporate who is in charge of handsets etc., and she got back to me (I sent the email @ 4 AM and had a response 3 hours later) saying what I'd expect, namely that I was right about how much effort goes into putting a device on shelves and that she'd forward it all to the buyers. Bottom line, someone who actually makes a decision knows that there are potential customers, and that's all I can really do. Not trying to save the rainforests or anything
Like I said, I'm not expecting miracles. I don't know if it'll work, but I know it definitely won't work if I/we don't try. Besides, if there's one thing I've learned it's that people are all about a petition if it doesn't cost them anything; none of the petitioners are obligated to buy the device, after all (though I suppose that defeats the purpose).
Any updates on this? My contract is up in May and I need an Android phone that is at least 5.3" with an stylus (S-pen).
Unfortunately not really. The inital wave of interest that the 3rd-party press generated seems to have finished, and the petition is sitting at ~3200.
Funny, I mentioned it here at XDA because I thought there would be more than the usual amount of demand for it here. XDA is a relatively small group but uncannily good at organizing. (It also showed me that I spent a LOT more time lurking here than I realized as I could've sworn I had 10 posts in already. )
I guess most already bought an international or at&t seeing as the Note is a huge success.

Wrong Note Received!!!

After drooling over the Note via virtually by watching a ton of youtube videos as well as reading up on everything about it I could find, I finally was ready to buy it (after had borrowing the money to get it). I knew I wanted the GT-N7000 version over the US AT&T model, mainly because of the better processor and I really like that Video Maker app, as well as a bunch of other things. I ordered my International Note through Amazon, with Prime Shipping! I placed the order for it last Wednesday afternoon, but it was not scheduled to arrive until Today, Monday. Woke up early, just to make sure I was handed the package and it wasn't thrown to my front door, ... I immediately felt something was wrong when I saw the box. It was in a longer than needed rectangular box, with both sides pushed in, to where you could actually reach in and pull the phone out of the box.
When I opened the box, too look at what was in there, first thing I noticed was that the phone box was not plastic wrapped, second thing, the AT&T logo on the box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wasn't really upset as I should of been, but the feeling of waiting over the weekend for Monday to come started back up again, as I knew I was going to have to return this phone, and wait for it to go through the process of mailing it back, waiting for the refund to go through, then reordering it from someone else, and waiting for it to arrive again.
The dealer I bought it from was MasterDeals Inc on Amazon. I will definitely not be buying anything from them in the future.
What a huge letdown this was, after having that NOTE FEVER for several weeks, then for it to end this way was a big disappointment. I hope the next one that gets shipped to me is the correct model.
I got to hold it for but a brief instance, my baby and I will meet again soon.
Sorry to hear that, it should all get sorted out as the product you purchased was a N-7000 and not the ATT Note.
Man that really sucks I am planning on ordering another note from amazon for my wife and I want to make sure that doesn't happen to me. I just noticed the reseller who is selling through Amazon that I was planning on buying through has two different pictures one for att and one for international ill have to be careful. Good luck on your return I hope they get you all sorted quickly it really is an amazing device.

When ordering online they don't specify which version it is? I'm sorry to hear that ... regardless, I'm sure it'll get straightened out.
UPDATE: 4/6/12
After what happened, which I posted above, I am glad to say I am now a VERY HAPPY GT-N7000 Note owner.
How it happened.
After opening the package which I had received on Monday 4/2/12, I immediately packaged it back up and sent it back, due to the fact that the seller had sent me the AT&T model, which I did not order.
Amazon's customer service emailed me the pre-paid UPS postage to include on the box, and I went to the nearest UPS drop off location and sent it. This was about 3:45 pm.
On Wednesday, at 12:00 PM, I had received a email from Amazon saying they had received the return, and were processing it and would email me back once the refund was submitted. That evening around 6:00 pm, I had received the email saying the amount I spent on the phone, $609.99, was being refunded back to the card I had used for the purchase. That was good enough for me.
3 Hours later or so, I reordered the Note from Yapper Wireless on Amazon. This was after receiving response emails from them that they were in fact selling the GT-N7000 model, so I placed the order around 9:00 pm that night.
Since I am a Amazon Prime member, I only had to pay $3.99 to have my order sent via 1 day shipping, which I did, as I wanted it before the weekend.
Thankfully, it did arrive this morning, Friday, at 11:00 am. Keeping my fingers crossed, I opened the box, and immediately seen that it was in fact the GT-N7000 WHITE model.
The phone box was not plastic wrapped, and after looking in the box, I noticed why, the seller took out the international plug adapter, and replaced it with the US Samsung one, which I was happy about.
Next I installed a screen protector, which I am not sure I will keep on, then installed my 32GB Samsung Class 10 Micro SD card, and installed my Straight Talk sim card. Followed the instructions on the Straight Talk website, activated the sim, picked the $45 a month Unlimited plan, and entered the APN settings that can be found on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487293 Thanks to Hirudin for posting it.
I first tried a call, Worked.
Text message, Worked.
Took a pic and sent it (MMS), Worked.
Again, I was VERY HAPPY! It's feels good to have unlimited minutes again, after being SO limited as I was with my 300 minutes a month $35 Virgin Mobile plan.
Next step, downloaded Speed Test to test the network.
Turned off WiFi (of course), Began Test.
I noticed in the status bar, It was going from 3G to H+, but then stayed on H+, this test was taking inside my house.
Results:
3.1 MBPS Down
1.2 MBPS Up
I am located in Fremont, CA .. the Bay Area.
I again, VERY HAPPY with these speeds, I would be lucky to get 100 KBPS Down with Virgin Mobile, which of course runs off of Sprints network.
I then went to the Google Play store on my computer, signed in with the email associated with my phone, and went to Devices under account settings, I was once again VERY HAPPY to see that it shows my carrier as AT&T!
The phone is on the charger now, I haven't really got into it yet, but I can say that this is definitely the BEST phone I have ever owned, and yes I did once own and use the iPhone 4. I am so excited to FINALLY have my very own Note, and I can't wait to start using it and customizing it to my liking. I look forward to May 22, when Samsung announces the S III, and hopefully whatever specs this new phones has, hardware wise, will make it into the Note 2. Quad Core/2GB Ram/12-16 Megapixel Camera/etc. I just hope the Note 2 at least keeps the same size screen, if not go slightly bigger!
Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share my experience with everyone, and yes, the Note/Straight Talk combination works flawlessly! Highly recommended if you don't like spending $100+ on your phone bill.
Long Live the Note/Hail to the King Baby!
Gotta love those happy endings.
And don't worry about the phone being on 3G, mine does the same. It switches to H+ when it starts pulling data, and goes back to 3G when it's finished; i think it's a power saving measure.
Wow from disaster to awesome, all sorted within the week. Sounds like you and amazon worked really fast to fix the problem. Congrats on getting the right note and I could almost feel your optimism while reading through lol!
Too many times ppl get hung up on bad mouthing a company due to a problem and take ages to get it fixed. You on the other hand named and shamed vowing never to buy from again (same thing I would do) and then got on with getting your phone
There really is no going back to a smaller device for ppl who use their phone other than calls. Loved my Dell Streak for year and a half and now I love my note. 5" is the future.
Enjoy your device buddy wd.

Yeah, I am glad it all worked out in the end. I know what you mean about not going back to a smaller device, I don't think I could do it, or at least I know I wouldn't want to.
Actually it bounces back from H+ to 3G as soon as your phone is idle for a couple of seconds or your throughput is below a certain threshold. This is controlled by the network and not your phone. The wireless medium is shared between many users, this is done to free up the limited resources for the users actually needing H+ and throw back everyone who doesn't need it to 3G.
