[Q] FM Radio is built in but how do you get it to work? - Sharp Aquos Crystal

From the Sharp website, it shows there is FM radio built in. I love listening to NPR. How do we get it to work?

I have NextFM radio installed, or it may have been preinstallled actually. You will need headphones to act as the antenna, but the app will also enable you to use the external speaker as the output despite having headphones plugged in. Which may work well for bluetooth speakers, havent tested that portion but used the built in speaker for the output and it works well.

@chousue,
Do you have a link for the NextFM app?
Thanks,
-Karl

There is an FM Radio built in, I can see it under Settings >All Apps, but can't find it in App Drawer... Am I missing something?

You at least need the NextFM app to use the radio as there is no app preloaded to use the built-in tuner. I have not tried other FM tuner apps on Play to see if they work, but I have successfully used NextFM.
In my experience, NextFM installed with all the other bloatware that was automatically downloaded and installed after first activation. If you turned Data/Wi-Fi off to stop the aforementioned process just go to Play and install it to use the tuner.

If you use a launcher like Apex, you can directly invoke the FM app's activity. Other launchers should also be able to do this, but I know Apex can.

FM RADIO
Use nextradio app from app store and then must use headphones to listen to the radio.

Tunein radio stream error

anybody have problems with the tunein radio app always saying stream error no matter what station you choose? its done this for me ever since the initial release of the app
yeah.. it's throwing me a stream error as well
It works most of the time for me but I get stream errors sometimes too.
iHeartRadio works well.
Yeah I use iheart because my favorite radio station is on it, and it hasn't given me any problems yet.
Found it somewhere else site and it works for me
Do you happen to be using Avast antivirus software? Try temporarily disabling it, and then see if Tunein works for you. Avast seems to not play well with some of the Windows 8 apps.
To permanently fix the problem, you need to add an exclusion in Avast's web shield settings.
To do this go to "Real-Time Shields / Web Shield / Expert Settings / Exclusions" type in TuneIn.exe under "Processes to exclude".

Car Home app

I have the Verizon LG G2. I bought a more generic type car mount that does not have the magnet to activate Car Home. It does not show up in my App drawer. Is there a way I can get it to show up in the App Drawer so i can manually launch it? I am rooted with standard rom. Also have Titanium backup if that helps.
Thanks

Opened and tried to install apk with no luck (both update install and full install failed). Is there any way to get Car Home working without the LG magnetic dock sold by Verizon (I use a custom mount in my car).

Get the app working first. It can be downloaded from google play store.
You can purchase some pretty cheap NFC tags and program one to launch the CHU app. Stick the NFC tag on your car dock and whenever you put your phone into the dock the NFC tag will launch CHU.
David
Use tasker. If you connect to your car via bluetooth, Have it trigger car mode on connect to the head unit, or anything else, NFC as was mentioned above can be the trigger for tasker as well.

Disable apps

What are the recommended apps to disable and/or get rid of? I did a factory reset because of nasty wake locks and trying to figure everything that can be disabled without losing features or anything. I know some of this is subjective, but still like some ideas. Thanks.

Until I can completely remove some bloat, I have the following turned off so far. It's by no means a thorough list.
Accessories
Audible
BlurbCheckout
Calculator (installed 3rd party Calculator)
Caller Name ID
Cloud
FamilyBase Companion
Google Play Books
HP Print Service Plugin
Message+ (Didn't even bother to figer out what this is before I killed it)
Messages (installed Hangouts and/or 3rd party messagin app)
My InfoZone
NFL Mobile
Smart Remote (downloaded the latest WatchOn app from Samsung)
Swype
Verizon Location Agent
Verizon Support and Protection
Verizon Tones
VZ Navigator
As far as the text-to-speech deletion goes, just uninstall whichever ones you don't anticipate needing.
Settings>Language and Input>text-to-speech options>Listen to an example. Really it's personal preference, and uninstalling unused tts voice data only serves to free up internal storage. For example, the "high quality" female English US voice for Google TTS is 244MB, The Samsung high quality voice data is around 90MB per language/gender.

Samsung has launched s5 devices with less permissions do to whatever you want! So maybe you have to root your device (which is not possible right now bcoz it will cut your warranty out) So another solution for it is try to search for an app on play store which disables system applications! Without root
I've turned off the following:
Accessories
Audible
Blurb Checkout
Caller Name ID
Family Base Companion
Flipboard
Google Play Books
Google Play Newsstand
IMDb
Isis Mobile Wallet
My InfoZone
My Magazine
NFL Mobile
Samsung Link Platform
Slacker
Smart Remote
VZ Navigator
This is my complete list... everything still works (except the Samsung bloat crap like S-voice and the verizon garbage pre-loaded). I did turn off some Google apps that were needless, and the Samsung fitness stuff (e.g. ANT+ connection, fitness, etc.), in addition to other things (S-pen, fonts, etc.)

I believe samsung billing is for app purchases through their proprietary app store
Samsung Link is a protocol for connecting only with samsung TV's/laptops - has functionality for screen-mirroring, DLNA only with samsung branded devices.
Samsung Galaxy... I'm not entirely sure what it does to be honest. I've tested fairly extensively if any functionality / apps / services are broken as a result, and everything still seems to work fine. I have a suspicion that this is related to a tutorial/demo function.

Downloads app is just an app that shows a history/list of everything you've recently downloaded (e.g. in the downloads folder). I prefer to use ESFileExplorer as it's more versatile as a file manager, and I don't care for an app that tracks file downloads/history.
In previous android versions, I believe the Media app was part of what cached/listed files such as images (thumbnails), music files, docs, etc. I vaguely recall disabling it in the past to find that all my MP3's and photos no longer appeared in the gallery/google music app. I would not disable it if my memory serves me correctly.
Yeah, your battery usage looks about in-par with mine. I came from a GNex and was used to seeing display always overtaking androidOS/systemUI (man, that phone had atrocious battery life and screen-on time)... the GS5 has such a great power-sipping display that I came to the same surprise as you to find it ranks on-par/sometimes below OS usage in a normal day. The battery life on this phone rocks.
EDIT: Media usage will sometimes spike if you've recently added a bunch of new files (photos, mp3's, etc.) to your device, as it's scanning/caching/indexing lists to the files. I'd give it a day or two if that's the case, and you'll see it won't consume much of anything once things are static on your phone.

Oh OK. I see. So perfectly safe to disable downloads. What about the media app itself? Do you have it disabled? That screen shot with the high media usage, I'm not sure we have it was so high. It's first time it has been like that and I haven't added any more music. Another question.
Do You Know What The Chrome sandbox is? And does your keyboard ever do that thing with the capital letters?

I don't have the media app disabled and wouldn't recommend it. I also wouldn't disable chrome sandbox ( though I'm not sure of its function, its installed alongside the app so it may be a plugin for other apps).
Not sure what keyboard caps problem you're referring to. I use only the android keyboard (not Samsung nor Swype).

What applications use the DAC on the V20 or do they all use it?

A quick check around XDA and apparently the V10 app fix works on the V20?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/themes/dac-fix-lg-v10-v20-t3484294
Do applications like Neutron, PlayerPro, etc, work with the DAC? What's the threshold (ex: Must be FLAC to activate or perhaps 320 kbps MP3/OGG/AAC, etc)?
The reason why I ask is because on the V10, at first, only a handful of applications used the DAC and then an update (Marshmallow) changed that. Wondering if that is still the case or if this is good to go across the board out of the box?

Not so with the V10. Google Music did work, but many other apps did not use the DAC. They actually had to make a list of what apps work and what apps didn't with the DAC:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/general/music-apps-using-dac-t3252596
The V10 does, but didn't initially and update came and fixed that. As for the V20 it does work with Play Music without anything changes to anything.

Unbrand Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow widget refreshing

Hi there!
Bought an chinese android unit with android marshmallow, all i expect from it is to autorun torque widgets on homescreen, start the jetAudio player of mine, and to turn on the skycash parking widget.
After turning off and turn on the unit - the skycash widget is perma connecting to data, torque widgets are frozen (if u add any new one - they start working), and none app can autorun (music player included).
I bet its a well known issue, so it is possible to deal with it somehow?
The unit is eincar 2 din 6.0 unit (i cant give a link cuz of spam protect, but i assume they put same software everywhere in their units)
I'll be gratefull for any solution.
PS. I was ofc trying already SU apps, autostart apps, givin all possible permisions to the unit, and so on..
Ah, and forgot to mention - its the [email protected] debugging mode pass ROM

How can it run with only 256MB of RAM?
Does it work fine with Android apps?
Then, about Torque, did you install his widgets?
If you set a widget on the home screen, it will call torque on boot or even if it's not loaded during normal usage.

It runs just fine, lil "laggy" when got chrome, navi, torque and mp3 turned on.. but works good.
The main thing is about no refreshing the widgets AFTER reboot.
I've somehow forced him to take the torque widgets.. but as usual it looks like "Torque not installed, download it from app store", while it is installed from the appstore :x and it does not call torque even if i have it on homescreen and choose it in autostart app.. Only way that it worked with autostarting any app was FCC car launcher's autostart option..

Well, sounds like memory isolation safety feature on Android 6.
Any apps cannot call for any other apps in background.
In fact you shouldn't need the widgets, Torque should boot automatically.
What's the problem using car launcher's autostart?
Have a try with PVC Startup Builder or Start And Stay.

What's the problem using car launcher's autostart? - the OEM launcher doesnt have any autostart, all it can do is the freakin poor music player to start playin after boot
