Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Schedule: What Devices Will Get The New Update? - G 2014 General

The Android 5.0 Lollipop release date schedule will depend on each individual OEM, but we already have a fairly good idea of what devices are in like to get Android 5.0 Lollipop. Naturally Google has confirmed that the Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Google Play Edition devices. Even older Nexus devices like the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 (2012) will get the Android 5.0 Lollipop showing that Google has truly optimized the OS so that it can run on older gen devices just as well as the newest flagships.
Update: The Nexus devices will start getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update starting Nov. 3
Nexus and Google Play Edition Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Schedule
The fact that the Nexus 4 will be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update was confirmed by Sascha Pruter, “I know there is a meme for this somewhere but... be assured the missing "Nexus 4" in the Lollipop update notice is just a mistake, we are fixing it now Now please put down your pitchforks again and let's have some candy !” he said on Google+. Android Police confirmed the Nexus 7 (2012) would also get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update despite its modest storage and Tegra 3 processor. When it comes to the release date schedule, we expect that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will roll out to the Nexus devices first, with the Nexus 5 being the first to get it OTA, followed by the Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 10. Then older devices like the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7 (2012) will probably get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update around the same time as the
Google didn’t specify which Google Play Edition devices will get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but it seems that the main ones will be the HTC One M8 and Moto G, both of which are currently on the Google Play Store. Other Google Play Edition devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One M7, Sony Z Ulra, LG G Pad 8.3
Motorola Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Schedule
Motorola has confirmed that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will roll out to many of its devices. Motorola doesn’t have a full release date schedule for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but based off Motorola’s track record and the speed with which it pushed out the Android 4.4 KitKat update, second only to the Nexus device

We're still working out the details on timing and the upgrade depends on our partners' support so stay tuned to our software upgrades page for the latest and greatest.
Samsung Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Schedule

LG Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Schedule
LG hasn’t officially provided an Android 5.0 Lollipop release date schedule yet, but the LG G3 should certainly get it. Other LG devices aren’t quite certain, though CNET says the LG G2 Pro, LG G2 and the LG G Pro are all likely.
HTC Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Schedule
HTC has confirmed its Android 5.0 Lollipop release date schedule, saying that the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 would both get the update 90 days following the final software from Google. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update should rollout worldwide to both flagships. We also anticipate that new devices like the HTC Desire Eye will get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

OnePlus One Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Schedule
The Android 5.0 Lollipop release date schedule was confirmed on the OnePlus forum. The update will come to the OnePlus One 3 months after the release of Google releasing the final Android 5.0 Lollipop build.
Friends, So a lot - I mean, a lot - of people are asking about whether we'll be getting on the Android L train. It was announced while I was asleep and when I got back to work the morning after, there were already a bunch of forum posts and (strangely) customer support requests about it. Well, we're keen to announce today that the OnePlus One will indeed be getting the L treatment. When, you ask? That depends on Google. We promise to have it done within three months of their releasing a final build.
Sony Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Schedule

Sony Announce Devices That Will Receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update

Heads up Sony Xperia owners, with Android 4.3 having recently been announced by Google, we’re sure many of you guys are wondering when Sony will be updating their mobile devices to the latest build of Android.
Well the good news is that Sony has since posted an update on their website confirming the devices that will be receiving the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update.
According to Sony’s blog post, they have confirmed that the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, and the Xperia Z Ultra will all be receiving the Android 4.3 update.
Sony has also announced that they will be looking at some of their older devices running on Android 4.1 and determining if these devices will be eligible for the Android 4.3 update as well.
The company has also updated users on their Android 4.2 Jelly Bean rollout and have confirmed that the Xperia ZR and the Xperia Tablet Z will receive the Android 4.2 update in early August prior to the Android 4.3 update.
Of course the time frame will differ depending on region, but we guess it’s still good news nonetheless.
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/07/so...t-will-receive-android-4-3-jelly-bean-update/
Google effectively castrated the bluetooth stack with 4.2.x so be advised. Something I wrote up in the Note II forum about this.

Lollipop Android 5.0!

Wonder if android 5.0 will hit on our phones in the next few mths. That happened on z1 for kitkat.
Can't wait to see what material design Sony can come out with!
Probarly yes !
With KitKat last year it took Sony about a week to announce some of the phones what they would be upgrading to KitKat. After that it took about 4 months for them to release the update to about half of the Z family and then about another 2 months to release the update to the other half.
If we are lucky this time then we could expect the update to hit in about 4 months (as Sony could update the Z3, Z3 dual, Z3 compact, Z3 tablet compact, Z2 and Z2 tablet). However I do expect us to get the update in about 6 months.
They stated their aim a while back , I'll try and dig a link up later, to have it by the end of Q1 2015.
Probably they might need more time to re design everything to fit the material design.. Q1 2015 looks promising. Let see if they would make any announcement. excited.
I just want Android L with Sony 4k camera and their noise reduction. That's it. Everything else should stay vanilla android L.
Till Sony officially releases I'll be using cm12 fosho, can't wait to try it out.
Lol cm12
Android Lolipop will no doubt be slighly aospish unless sony continue to get negative feedback about their new UI
IMO, (and before android L) our Z2 should now be running official 4.4.4 like other much older Z devices.
I only have my Z2 for like a week now, but i was chocked to see my syster old xperia ultra on official 4.4.4
Elie.
There is hope

"Sony Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Schedule.
Sony hasn’t provided an Android 5.0 Lollipop release date schedule, however we should be shocked if the Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Compact and other Sony devices released within the past year don’t get an update.
We will keep you posted as we learn more about Android 5.0 Lollipop release date schedules from each OEM. We anticipate the update to start rolling out to Nexus devices on Halloween, with November and December being the prime times for OEMs to start pushing out the update. "
It's just pure speculation. It is a given that OEMs like Samsung, Sony etc. are going to be a bit behind in updates.
Hope for a release this year...
naaah, but a release Q1 2015... Maby...

Android 5.0 L for Z3

Greeting, if anyone knows when it will be available to Android 5.0 for Xperia Z3?
Something was discussed, it should come this year or next (Q1/2015)... It would be good if Sony starts thinking forward about the new android L...
Or we'll get a new update on Z3, while out new Z4..

Wow, Sony means xperia z will get android L update.... Fantastic!!!!
Good news. I will be holding onto my Nexus 5 until Christmas then, usually the carriers have devices on sale around then and also my upgrade fee will be less. SAWEEET!

LOOL.... Nexus get out 6 of november, lollipop will land few days later on older nexus and GPE version of phone.
So it means sony have just one and half month to bring it to Z3 if they want to realease it for Z3 series, and you say its slow?
And for compare
Code:
HTC One (M7) - Android 5.0 Lollipop update in 90 days
HTC One (M8) - Android 5.0 Lollipop update in 90 days
HTC One mini - Android 5.0 Lollipop update, schedule TBA
HTC One mini 2 - Android 5.0 Lollipop update, schedule TBA
Motorola have 4-5 phones, samsung few phones, lg 2 maybe and sony will update entire Z series.
This is briliant
Chance for better 3rd party camera apps?
Since several of the features in 5.0 look quite interesting for photography purposes, any guesses if these could be used for better 3rd party camera apps?
As seen on http://www.android.com/versions/lollipop-5-0/ :
A range of new professional photography features for Android Lollipop that let you
Capture full resolution frames around 30 fps
Support raw formats like YUV and Bayer RAW
Control capture settings for the sensor, lens, and flash per individual frame
Capture metadata like noise models and optical information

Sony states 5.0 will be released beginning of 2015. So assuming its end of Jan or early Feb then it is 3 months from the release of 5.0 to nexus devices. This could be the time frame for all the other OEM's except motorola which might release it in december. I would call that fast. I knew this before buying the device so i am not really bothered about it.
At least they have announced an intention to update those phones. Unlike Samsung...

Wow, I am positively surprised that even my Xperia tablet z will get official lollipop. I thought that Sony was supposed to be bad at updating. Compared to my old Asus I feel that I am treated like a princess.

So will there be any changes for an update for Z3 to Lollipop? When I had a Samsung/HTC update to 4.0, there weren't any major changes. Will the Z3 be able to run ART with even better battery saving capabilities? Anyone know what features might be added? Im interested to know if there will be any major changes, or if I should just wait for a Z4/Nexus 6 that will have the latest features instead of getting a slimmed down update.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

If I read it correctly ART is the default runtime in lollipop so yeah... Guess it'll be able to run ART. And nobody knows what the exact changes will be... only sony.
I'm pretty sure Z3 will get L in late Jan - early Feb

Aye, let the Nexus users be the guinea pigs and do the testing for us - hopefully by that time it will be bug free is the way I see it
rooting lollipop may need a custom kernel ? (according to chainfire) this will make bootloader unlock and drm issue all the more interesting hehe

Ah, yes, but because of the frequency of new models being released, it's easy to forget that the Z and Tablet Z actually only came out about 18 months ago - so are pretty much within the '18 month' window of getting supported.
I actually don't want Android 5 / L before it has stabilized. KitKat needed 5 iterations to settle (remember all the connectivity issues up and including 4.4.3?!).
Hence, completly agree with zoomee, let Nexus users do some testing and Google do some fixes first
Meanwhile, the Z2 STILL doesn't have 4.4.4

Good News Infinity Users -> Android 7.1 for Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ To Roll Out Soon

Good News Infinity Users -> Android 7.1 for Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ To Roll Out Soon
Samsung’s decision to ship the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ with Android 7.0 left many confused. The latest version of Google’s mobile operating system at the flagship’s launch was Android 7.1. It made sense for the company to release its new handset with the latest version of Android but it didn’t do that.
Then again, it’s not like the Android 7.1 update adds any major new features that Galaxy S8 owners have missed out on. It brings new emoji, launcher actions for the Pixel launcher and other minor tweaks. The emoji and launcher updates don’t really matter to Galaxy S8 owners since Samsung uses its own versions of both on its handsets.
Nevertheless, the Android 7.1 update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ should be rolling out soon. Vodafone Australia has updated its website to reflect that the new firmware release has been submitted for review. This means that it’s in the final stage before roll out.
The carrier itself mentions that this is going to be a “Stability and Bug Fix” update so users shouldn’t expect much in the way of new features. With a major Australian carrier coming close to rolling out Android 7.1 for Galaxy S8, it’s only a matter of time before said update is released for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in other markets across the globe.

Also 7.1.1 bring app shortcut so basically one major useful feature
I would expect September released most of the case.
Very very late when my second device Axon 7 has 7.1.1 from April.
