Non Pure Bootloader Unlock - X 2014 General

For those of us hoping for a bootloader unlock for the non pure editions, it looks like it will be some time, if ever..... The Sunshine update 3.0 will be focused on HTC, for the time being anyway. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56383217

Well this disappoints. Hope we get root at least

Boatloader Unlock?

Has any dev checked if DX boatloader is unlockable with the GB update through fastboot? I come from the Atrix forums...and it appears 2.3.3 ota update for the Atrix will unlock the boatloader through fastboot. I just wanted to give a heads up to my fellow Moto peeps

How does one even install fastboot? From my knowledge I thought only dev phones could use it. Maybe im wrong....

The bootloader wasn't updated with our ota. :-\ Should still be locked down.

actually since it's the same then it should not have any revisions to prevent it from using the atrix unlock method...or at least that's my hypothesis on it...i literally just asked a question like this 2 seconds ago on rootzwiki

I believe the same thing, I believe that Verizon/motorola did put out a note about the Gingerbread update stating that the same rooting methods would not work BECAUSE the were updating to a new bootloader. If this is true, then I'm 99.9% sure they update to the bootloader they are using for the atix.
Hopefully only a matter of time before this boot unlocker OR the offical one comes out for Droid X. Lets just hope that they dont only do the unlokcing of the bootloader for the Droid X2

Remove bloatware - Dev Edition

Just got the Dev edition - purchased mainly to stay on the unlimited plan and didn't expect to root until I'm bored with stock (~6 months).
Although, I would unlock if it means it will allow removing the bloat. Anyone know if this is possible when unlocked? I'd try but want to stay under warranty for as long as possible.
Warranty is voided with an unlocked boot loader anyways. What do you mean u are still under warranty? What was the point of getting the dev edition if your not going to unlock it?

The Dev edition is not shipped 'unlocked' - It still requires you to unlock it yourself. Therefore I'm still under a warrenty from motorola.
If I could remove bloat it would give me a good reason to void that warranty.
What else will unlock give me at this time? No ROMs yet.... and don't expect quality support of a rom for some time.
As I stated, the main reason for the dev edition was staying on the unlimited plan and the bonus of future ROM support (fingers crossed). The dev edition cost was the same as from verizon without contract. And as a bonus I have that little "Development Edition" signature on the kevlar back
Whattt! How'd you get it for the same cost?! I thought it was full retail price?
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2
He said "same cost from Verizon without contract". The developer edition is the same price as the retail version at full, non subsidized price.
That's what happens when I read too fast and go on this at work when I'm not supposed to lol.

If you unlock the bootloader you can do what you please with the device. If you decide to unlock then you will want to visit me @ www.aosp.us and download a recovery (both ClockworkMod and TWRP) and also get a full XML file made for the dev edition.

Dev edition same amount of bloatware as retail?
Does the Razr M developer edition have the same bloatware as the retail version? Since it is purchased direct from Motorola, I presumed VZW did not pack their garbage on there.
Thanks.
Verizon was sure to pack it with a bunch of apps. Just about everything can be disabled except media sync and backup assistant.

Yes it has Verizon logo on front. It also has a Developer Edition logo on the back below the other Verizon 4G LTE logo.

I have a Dev Edition and I have not unlocked it yet either for one simple reason....
I want Moto JB first with all the bugs worked out. I can still get the OTA if I unlock the boot loader first but I'm not much for tempting fate. Once my phone is on JB and stable, the boot loader is getting unlocked, I'm rooting, and pulling all the Vz bloat and spyware off my phone.
I'm not really waiting for KLP from Moto.
Does anyone have an RSD image for the RAZR M? I keep one for the Atrix 4G just in case. I love insurance.

Moto CSR: Unlock Bootloader on Retail XT926 Verizon

I had a interesting Chat session today with a Moto CSR here is the log:
Me: I purchased a Used Motorola Droid RAZR HD (Verizon) Retail Version Phone. The purpose was to work on android development. I am interested in unlocking my bootloader for that purpose. The phone itself is out of warranty and therefore I am not concerned about voiding the non-existent warranty. Your Bootloader Unlock webpage here seems to not allow me to do so as it is not developer edition.
Me: From my understanding a Dev Version is the only phone listed. However as previously stated I am out of warranty and wondering if it were possible through customer support to unlock my bootloader.
Gerald Ray: I see. Thanks for the information. Please know that here with Motorola we do not advice to unlock the Bootloader of our phones and for that we don't have steps to do it. If you need further assistance, you may check our nearest Repair Center in your area.
Me: Sorry your response is not clarifying.
Me: Is it possible to unlock the bootloader of a Retail XT926 Motorola Droid RAZR HD that is a Non-Developer version?
Gerald Ray: Yes, it is possible.
Me: I live in Sacramento California where is the nearest Motorola Repair center?
Gerald Ray: This is the site to check: http://www.service-center-locator.com/motorola/motorola-service-center.htm
Gerald Ray: Is there anything else that I can assist you today aside from this?
Me: based on the information provided it seems there are no service centers in my immediate area
Gerald Ray: I understand. You may check the nearest one.
Me: Does this require for me to be there in person?
Gerald Ray: You may try calling them first. We have phone numbers from that site.
Me: Ok thank you
I have emailed three of the service centers provided on the webpage he indicated to get their response to this possibility. I will update the thread once I get confirmation or denial of the ability to unlock the bootloader from the service center.
This thread has potential!
As long as the latest ota hasn't been applied, you can unlock the boot loader. Not sure why you're going through all the hassles of calling a csr.
That is unless you're talking about a phone that does have the latest ota which patches the boot loader unlock exploit.

I hoping it works because I have a RAZR Maxx HD... That I would like to unlock the boatloader.

Unless another exploit has been found for the latest ota, and believe me we would know if there was, you will not be able to unlock the bootloader unless the phone was already unlocked before the ota.
The ability to unlock the bootloader on the hds was due to a security exploit in the code that existed before the latest ota. Using this exploit, Dan came up with code that fooled the phone into unlocking the bootloader. Once it did this, there was an eFuse that was blown to signal that the bootloader was unlocked. This fuse cannot be reset ever back to a locked state.
However, if you applied the ota before unlocking the bootloader, then what the ota did was patch/fix the exploit which means Dan's unlocking code no longer works, therefore you cannot unlock the bootloader.
It took Dan a long time to find the exploit. He has stated he does not have the time to look for a different one. In fact, there may not be another one. We were lucky that the first one was even found.
So unless Motorola decides to allow the hds to be part of the unlocking tool, I would not hold my breath.
The only other hope for you is if someone were to get kexec running on the HD. However, since because of the (now closed) exploit, no one has attempted it. Since a lot of people have their phones unlocked, I don't think the developers are working on kexec.
Plus, with the HDs being about a year old, and newer phones especially are being released, I just don't see anyone putting forth the time and effort to do this.
But, you could always put out a bounty to see if you raise enough cash to give someone if they attempt and succeed. Usually these don't result in anything coming to fruition.

That sounds like a good idea... Would you be able to help with that? The devices are still good and a lot of people like my self would like to try 4.3 and get that great battery life on most if my devices.
Now, could we create community in Google+ and twitter to increase awareness of the bounty?

Since my tiny hopes of N5 coming on Verizon is now official dashed, I need to unlock my phone...
i'll be patiently waiting for this thread to update!
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but apparently, no news from the op with a reply is bad news.

How Long To Wait Until Unlocking The Bootloader?

I am expecting my Pure tomorrow. Normally the first thing I do is unlock the bootloader then root. After reading about the speaker issue, I am hesitant to do that.
Is there a good test for the speaker to see if the problem exists? Anyone return a phone with a bad speaker and an unlocked bootloader? Does it make a difference if I have or don't have the extended warranty?
Thanks!
Sent from my m8wl using Tapatalk
If it is a hardware problem they will still replace it.
Just unlock it when you get it. Motorola despite the official stance they have posted generally doesn't care if you unlock the bootloader. Your best off doing it right away as doing it wipes all the data off the phone.

At least we' re doing something,no matter what' s a result.
Verizon isn't going to let Motorola bl unlock these phones until they stop selling them like the X
But there is a new unlock exploit coming very soon that *will* work on the 8960/pro, so most of us will at least get 5.1 via cyanogenmod, it should breathe new life into these devices for at least the rest of 2016, maybe longer.
Maybe there is a chance to even get 6 via cyanogenmod eventually if the drivers can be ported from 5.1 ? Or is that an unrealistic expectation?
Let's hope this new 8960/ pro exploit is real for the sake of those who have not had the pleasure of running LP and MM on their machines. My MAXX and OG Moto X have been on LP for over a year now and it ran much better than KK other than the cell standby bug. I just flashed CM13 on this phone and it is even better. Testing out doze now, seems to be pretty good on the battery. This is a great phone, if it is bootloader unlocked!

root exists on the (verizon) mini/maxx/ultra (same phone internals) because of work done by crashxxl to bypass the bootloader and write over the rom via qload driver mode - basically he writes the changes needed for root and SU
I believe he figured it out by studying the developer edition of the device which is bl unlocked
it works quite well, we have root and xposed but wp=1 of course
laginimaineb's next announcement will open the device for everyone but I don't think he is releasing a proof of concept, at least not for this phone model, so if you are willing, we could probably really use your help when that happens
I'd be happy to send you a mini (to keep) if that will help motivate you

it's kitkat 4.4.4 - the only option right now unless you have a developer model or paid for sunshine so you can use cyanogenmod, etc.
SU6-7 rom was built December 2014 (sunshine cannot unlock this one)
SU4.21 rom was built June 2014 - sunshine CAN unlock this version but if anyone has accepted the OTA, it's too late because now the phone is SU6-7.3 and fuse blown
I can send you either SU4 or SU6 to play with

SU4 hasn't been available for a year now, maybe longer and you cannot downgrade these phones
verizon now ships all of them with SU6, so no sunshine, and verizon refuses to let motorola unlock the bootloader like they did with the X
