Zagg Glass & Mirror Galaxy Note 4 (BUYER BEWARE) - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 General

These have been recalled by Zagg according to a Facebook exchange I had w/ Zagg and a rep Zagg Chick. They are on display everywhere including Best Buy and still available to order. The curve on the Note 4 glass causes the edges to remain lifted from the glass creating a weird halo tyoe of effect all the way around the edge. Some exchanges back & forth from custoners had Zagg requesting information (like a credit card, say what?) for an exchange when the engineering is corrected.

Don't want to load xda w/ bunch of useless photos but you can go to Zagg on Facebook and read more angry posts.

So if we bought it (like I did), we can just exchange them for the non-halo ones later when they're released?

I got one too. Interesting. I do not do facebook, so hopefully this thread stays updated with the latest information.
Sent from my SM-T807P

Got one on the day of phone release at Best Buy and had the guy install it - realized it was messed up, tried to put on a new one from a new package (for free) and it had that same halo effect because of the curved glass, so he just returned the glass one for me and I just got one of the normal Zagg kind and installed that for me and I was all set lol.

If you guys had gone with iSmooth you would have perfection with the absolute best customer service I have ever seen in a company
btw, not an employee nor affiliated in anyway...just absolutely love their products after trying 20 or so different screen protectors and hope I can help others save money/time/frustration that I went through

Bought mine at sprint the day it released as well. The halo dowant really bug me. When im using the phone i dont really notice and i have the samsung case so its closed when im not using the phone. But i do still have the zagg boxes and i registered the zagg glass already. When thru release the updated version ill awitch it out.

I bought this PThink - was like $9 - anyone ever used it?
Haven't had a chance to put it on yet
I did look at the glass and it does not appear to be curved. Although I can't tell for sure until I put it on.

Yeah, I was all set to take it back today along with a usb wifi adapter I decided not to use. Halo thing bugs me some, not to mention it looks like I'm eating KFC and texting on my phone from all the smudges on the screen. Even at $40, I decided to keep it to protect my phone.

I'm being told they will be making an option on their website for an exchange when they fix the issue. As of today, Best Buy still has them forsale.

Thanks for taking the time to share this. I got mine today, and the sprint dude said if you apply heat to it, then will go down. I'll borrow the neighbors hair dryer to see if this works.....I'm kinda doubting it...but if it does, I'll share. Otherwise, I'll be waiting too....but from someone who had 4 Notes 3's....due to breaking the screen....when he sold it to me, it was like I could hear angel music and bright lights were shining. LoL. If it really works, I'll be happy.

Please share your results. In my experience, tempered glass doesn't bend like that but my experience doesn't consist on phone screen covers.... ☺
My thing is you shouldn't have to apply heat to a $50 screen cover. The other material you can apply heat (sudden temperature rise) and have flexibility, this I've done before.

Same thing here. Zagg edges not down at edges. Sprint basically told me nothing they can do. Unbelievable. I guess ill register my zagg and hope for a replacement when one is available. 40 bucks you would think it would fit properly. Oh well. Ive contacted everyone i can.
Sprint said I was the first person to complain about it. I call b.s.
AS FOR ME.....GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH

Uhm..yeah...no go with the heat. The Sprint salesman told me it did work. I find his sales tactics to be subpar.

Well I've gone though two Zagg glass shields on my Note 4, plus I've also gone through an HDX. Both of the glass shields didn't go down at the bottom. The problem with them not laying down on the edges was worse on the iPhone 6 and 6 plus. The HDX went down just fine but I really wanted a glass shield.
As for Zagg having recalled them... I'm not to sure if they have otherwise we wouldn't carry them at Best Buy. I have, however, noticed that you can purchase the shields on Zagg's website but they are backordered.
Zagg released a second batch of the iPhone shields that worked perfectly fine so I'm sure that they will for the Note 4 as well.
Ps... These devices are the only ones with these issues. I've probably put down hundreds of shields and never had issues.

Took mine back to sprint... THey tried to give me the 14 day policy.... I told them they need to override that summa of bi*tch and give me my money back. I know this won't work for everyone but be very addimit about your money and I hope it works for everyone.

Who has a screen protector?

If you have a screen protector can you please post which one? Please include a description of it, does it help with glare, fingerprints, and any sacrifice in display quailty? How much you pay and a link if not bought at a retail store.
I know people have them, but not much commented on how they are once installed. Thanks.

I think I'm going to try out the Zagg. As much as I don't like the idea of spending $30 on a screen protector, its worth it. I have $50 at best buy anyway. Wish they had a display with it set up. Or does anyone know of a way to rerun a screen protector if your not satisfied with it?
I really can't go any longer without one.

Upon further investigation, if you buy the zagg from the directly, which is $10 cheaper than best buy, they give you a 45 day money back guarantee. I may just take advantage of this if I can't test one out.

I've ordered some from the company before and they are good to deal with. I think they also have a lifetime guarantee if you register your protector on their site.
Using GadgetShieldz
I've just ordered Gadegetshieldz, they don't make it for the A500 yet, but you can use the "DIY" version and trim it to fit before applying it. I've used their products for almost all my phones, I prefer it over Zaggs or Skinomi stuff.

It'll take about 1.5 weeks to arrive (since it's a India company - oversea mail), but it's cheap and does the job. In fact, i have one for my iPad (1st gen) and I like it a lot.

I got this one too. It's surprisingly easy to apply.
Attached is a photo I took with the front cam of my Iconia. There's an unprotected gap at the edge of the front where you still can see the reflection from the windows.
I bought the Zagg directly from their site. Installed it just a few minutes ago. Pain in the rear to get it lined up and laid down. I'm interested in seeing how well it calms down over the next couple of days. I installed one on my sons Ipod as a dry application and granted even though it's much smaller it was way easier to handle and install than this wet application was. I will reserve judgement for a few days and see how it turns out.
Xoom Protectors
I bought a pack of 3 from the Verizon store for $24.95 - they go on easily and although they don't cover the bezel, they do cover the entire screen area with about 1/8" over all around. Nice protector and very durable.
ZAGG Invisible Shield
I've been using ZAGG Invisible shields for quite a long time.. Most are pretty easy to install. With the exception of this one.. Took a few tries but I got it on there. One of the best things I can tell you about them is that if anything goes wrong with them. They give you a lifetime replacement warranty. Just make sure you register the product and you are covered.. So what I like is that they stand by their product.
Just in case you are interested about that tidbit.
Zagg Shield
Very disappointed with the Zagg shield. a real bit** to install and I hate the way it feels. The drag on your fingers is definitely there. I should have realized I wouldn't like it because I had one for my Omnia phone and I ended up taking it off of that as well.
I really liked the Zagg body glove on my wife's phone but hers is not a touch screen.
Oh well, live and learn.
I had the Zagg shield put on the Acer A500 and I like the feel of it. Easy to clean and seems to reduce some glare.
I paid Best Buy $15 to put it on. Best decision.
I watched the BB person apply the shield. The process took about 20 minutes, and she got it right the first time.
After watching, I am convinced that I would have messed it up.
The stylus is useless with the the zagg cover right?

Liquid Armor

Anyone using this on their nexus? How about on the back side, which is what I am most interested in?
I've seen mixed results, but I really am hating the screen protectors I've seen so far. Ready to try something new.

I'm interested in this stuff as well.. I can't imagine it's removable though..?
Personally, I rather know that I have put something down on the screen via screen protector instead of having to second guess whether I put enough liquid armor on, or whether I covered all the spots with proper amount. Just too much uncertainty.
edit: Just read that you have to REAPPLY the liquid armor every 6 months..... yeah for $25 a bottle, I don't think that's worth it.
Doesn't work. It's more like a polish than anything else.

Is this any different than Rain-X?
I decided to give it a try. I really just want the phone to not slide around on the back. I've seen reviews saying that this leaves a little bit if a grip or stick feel to it, so I'm hoping that will be the case. I never have scratched any of my old phones, so I'm willing to take a chance. I'll let you guys know when I get it and after a few days or use if I can notice a difference.
By the way it's only 14 bucks shipped off Amazon.
If anyone wants to do a real comparison and has some old phones lying around you could always apply this to one of them and start do a real scratch test so we can see if it works or not.

I would think it's glass since people have shattered their screens but I've read mixed reviews. Anyways, it would be awesome if you actually did do a real test. Not with a pair of keys or scissors, but a real one with sand. See if that liquid armor really does put a film over the screen

id assume that all this is, is a hydrophobic coating that most companies use to coat electronics these days. it WONT protect against scratches.
least this is my assumption and i wouldn't not trust a spray over a rubber/plastic barrier.

That's pretty much it, there's no scratch protection whatsoever from this stuff. It makes the glass slightly more grippy and fingerprint resistant. I have a bottle of it gathering dust on my shelf.
I've been using it on my nexus 4, front and back. Although after 10 days of use I don't see any scratches (even hairline), it just doesn't feel quite enough psychologically. I'll be buying a screen protector today. Just don't know which one yet. Any suggestions?
P.S. I also applied this on other devices, like my motoactv etc, and no scratches there either. So it looks like it works, but no way to say for sure.

Initially, I felt the grippy feeling on this; but it lasted not even two days. I clean my phone with alcohol wipe at least once a day and I am pretty sure once I wiped this down with alcohol it took anything that was on it right off.

Bought the bottle, it says 50 odd applications, v v v easy to use, zero tackiness or texture, put it on my N4 and my kids s3 and Note and the various tabs we have, it feels very smooth as good as naked screen and no sign of a scratch on any of the devices.
It's way way better than any screen protector I've ever had and I'm good at applying them, I hate the way they feel, attract grease and get covered in a myriad tiny scratches and that's if you manage to get bubble free.
I was gona buy a Spigen curved crystal for the N4 like I did for the s3 but liquid is better and a lot cheaper.

Skinomi TechSkin (screen protector) owners, - a question for you

So I'm interested in this screen protector, as it offers edge to edge protection along with some other features I like:
amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Protector-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B009W6C3YO/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header - sorry cant link yet due to post requirements.
However, as I'm in the UK its not available to me. I've searched everywhere for it, they just dont sell it here at-all.
In desperation I turned to a friend who lives in the US, and asked him if he could order it to him first, then ship it to me.
So, my question to you Skinomi owners:
What are the dimensions of the box the screen protector comes in? I know the shipping weight (3.8 oz), but the dimensions are no-where to be found on the web. I've looked on the USPS website for shipping rates to the UK, and if it can fit in a "large" envelope and weighs 3.8 oz, then I'm only paying $4 for shipping, which is good. But if it cant, I'm looking at $70+ just for shipping :S
Description of the large envelope:
Other than rolls: Max. length 24", max length, height and depth (thickness) combined 36"
Rolls: Max. length 36". Max length and twice the diameter combined 42"
Help please?
Edit, for mods;
The question when posting this thread was "Is this a question?"
Though this is a question, its not directly linked to a Q&A of a nexus 4, thus not wanting to be posting a accessories question in the nexus Q&A, I posted here. Sorry if I'm wrong, feel free to move the thread as you wish mods. :good:
I've still got my box, even though I don't use the Skinomi anymore (ended up with a Spigen). Here you go.
4 3/8" x 7 1/8" x 1"
Approximately.

I bought a tech skin for my phone and tablet from amazon.com. you can have an account with a UK address. It was cheaper from skinomi on Amazon than through there own site. Also only took around 4 days to arrive. I think in total it was $20 or so delivered to the UK.

I got mine 5 days ago from CA (I'm in the UK), the protector does feel good (not too rubbery), though it doesn't have a high quality finish as MediaDevil has, plus it does peal with my BALLISTIC case, I did get around this with six 1mm sellotape rectangles, their barley visible, and they keep the protector from pealing on the edges. Overall an alright product, I definitely overpaid, but with lifetime warranty, I might make a clam soon.
I used Skinomi on my HTC Sensation before I discovered Best Skins Ever, BSE are much better - they're much less resistive to touch (feel almost like glass) and they do a case optimised version which leaves a small gap around the edges so cases/bumpers won't lift the protector, or a full version which fits to the edges.
I do like the packaging of Skinomi and the premium cloth and squeegee it comes with though.
Mines come tomorrow and I'll leave a comment on its quality, etc.
I hope my seidio case comes too.
Pros: Self-healing that actually works..
Cons: Everything else.
Think I might just go with "Just like glass"
Mine came in today but I'm waiting to install it till tomorrow night. Gotta work tomorrow
So I installed it and it's okay. I'm keeping it because I paid fifteen bucks for it and I don't want to run rawdog without one. I have never liked screen protectors. My gnex had one on it when I bought it and I couldn't stand it. I ended up removing it. It was a zagg I think.
I think I'll buy one of the tempered ones soon.
Just not all that impressed.

Keep your fingers wet. Do it in a hot steamy bathroom to minimize dust.
Follow the included instructions.
I've got one of these. Imo, they are easier to apply than other dry application screen protectors I've purchased in the past. And come with a neat microfiber cloth. I also enjoy the textured protector for the back of the device. It came with pieces to cover the sides, top, and bottom too but those weren't so simple to make use of unfortunately.

Just get a BSE, they're cheaper, better and deliver to the UK. Trust me, I've tried pretty much every wet apply screen protector there is over the past couple of years
This screen protector is a total pos! It is constantly peeling off. & stretching
Back side does not stay sticky
Also every where my case is touching it. It had faded to a matte finish.
I would try to get some pics later today.
I think I will stick with Zagg.

Needing protection for new S5.

Hey guys
Wondering what covers you can recommend me.
Don't mind about the price but i'm after a really good cover/case which can protect the phone from drops, scuffs and scratches.
Also can you suggest me a type of screen protector to go for?
Thank you.

I'm using the tech 21 clear cover with an extreme zagg invisishield. Don't think it gets any better than that without ruining the aesthetics of the phone. Total cost is max £50 should be able to pick the zagg and the tech 21 for around 15 each, so £30 if you shop around.
You should read some reviews as you'll likely have some personal preferences that will heavily influence your choice.
If you really don't care what the case looks like and just want maximum protection then get a bunker type case like a Griffin Survivor or Otterbox Defender. Basically a big, thick rubber wall that will protect your phone against most accidents. Or maybe you want something more elegant, like a Spigen Ultra fit. A lot better looking and much thinner. But also less protection. Or a hundred variations on either theme.
Likewise for screen protectors. The tempered glass ones offer the most protection but are more expensive and thicker than plastic sheet type protectors. Read some reviews or better, take a first hand look at local stores to see what you prefer.
.
Thanks so much guys.
Not too fussed about how it looks but just needed something with the most protection.
Helps sell it later on if its well protected too.
Both suggestions were very helpful.
Had a brief look online at those and now I'm gonna decide which one to go for!
Cheers.

Don't mind about the price but i'm after a really good cover/case which can protect the phone from drops, scuffs and scratches.
Also can you suggest me a type of screen protector to go for?
Thank you.

Spigen Tough Armor Case: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J4CZFZU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got the Spigen SlimArmor for mine and love it. Fits like a glove, so tightly that it's semi difficult to get the case off. Dropped a few times and not a scratch still.
I got this bit bulky but worth it

By far the best screen protector I've used and it's got free lifetime replacements lol the link is for the active version but they make them for the sport version as well

Also when u install the screen protector do it in a steamy room, go to the bathroom turn the shower up as hot as it goes then wait till it's humid as f in there, the steam and humidity causes lent and dust to stick to the moisture in the air and get stuck to the walls so there's less of a chance of getting it under your screen

Whitestone Dome Preorder

I've never bought Whitestone Dome before, because I just couldn't justify the price. Well, I recently bought a used Note 9 that already had one installed. And now I see why everyone raves about them.
I got to thinking, I usually spend more buying cheap screen protectors than I would if I just ponied up the money upfront for Dome. So I decided to preorder a Whitestone for my Note 10+.
Here's my question for those that have bought them in the past. If I only have one Note 10+, is there any reason to get the two-pack? Don't they come with a lifetime warranty anyway? I think I read warranty replacements are only $10, so would it make sense to spend $15 more for the two-pack? Or am I missing something?
I ask because when I pre-ordered, they only had the single in stock, and I got it for $41. Well now the two pack is in stock for $54. Would it be worth it to cancel my first order and get the two-pack?
Obviously title should say DOME not SOME. Stupid autocorrect cc

Where did you order 2 for 54?

I had the Whitestone Dome on my Note 8, put it on day one of owning the phone. Two years later and it's still sitting pretty with no issues. I have dropped my phone a couple times, nothing major, but every time I approached my phone fearing the worst. The Dome is tough as nails, though. Crack-free since day 1.
I would say the 2 pack is unnecessary for most people, but if you are the kind to juggle your phone or plan to use it as an airsoft scope then sure, pick up the two piece.
They don't work that good with in screen fingerprint, alot of misses.

My wife's started flaking away after it hit something in her purse. Mine has had no issues over 2 yrs. The best reason for 2 is if somehow damage it.

How much is a warranty replacement? I was thinking it was only $10 anyway.

Unfortunately they do not ship to the country I am in. I guess I just have to wait for local distributor to bring it in.

I used them on my Note 9 since launch I'm on my second, first was my own fault put my keys in the wrong pocket and they chipped the edge of the glass then over time it cracked more and flaked away, second is fairly solid but shows signs of lifting on one side, but I work outside and do fairly physical work so they do take a fair bit, but they do way better than any other screen protector I've ever used, they seem to survive drops and hits way better and the screen response is way better.
also the only protector I've found for curved screens that doesn't let dust in behind it due to it being fully glued unlike most that seem to only glue the edges and in some cases it's not even all 4.
I'd wait to see how it works with the fingerprint reader first. The reviews of the S10 one are not great.
Yup, I ordered one but I am kind if surprised by the contrast between the positive recommendations I find in forums and a few poor reviews I read on Amazon, especially about the s10 version. Hope it means that forum users are more evolved users when it comes to installing screen protectors... Paid 60€ to find out, will come back here for a review.
My experience was awesome for almost 10 mos, but the past couple of mos I can see dried adhesive on the top where it looks like air bubbles underneath. No clue why or how that happened but im assuming that it just dried out after a while. That was my first time using it on my note 9, so I have kind of mixed emotions on getting one for the 10+. Depending on the quality of these other tempered glass protectors I bought, I may or may not get one but as far as durability goes, I have dropped my phone multiple times and only this last time which was on concrete did it even slightly crack. So I will give it 2 thumbs up for durability.

that's the problem I have with mine on the Note 9 at the moment, it started to appear after the phone took a bump, I believe it is just the glass lifted slightly in the bump.
on the people and the fingerprint scanner, seen a few reviews some people have said they had to try the install more than once to get the scanner to work properly so it may just be it needs to be installed well for the reader to pass through the glue and screen protector. but for me I'm more disappointed they took the Iris scan out, I've never had any luck with fingerprint readers in the past they always seem to struggle with my fingerprints. so I don't hold much hope on the scanner working well either way.
Are they case friendly? Or will it push off?

It really depends on the case. You'll have to wait for people to try it with various cases to find out.

I hope they've worked the kinks out now they've had a few months to play around with it. I've had one on my Note 9 since the day it arrived and it still looks brand new so I'd feel much better with one on my 10+ next week.
my protector came today ready for friday, they have changed/added a step to the install I'm guessing to deal with the fingerprint scanner, there is a lump of what looks like machined polycarbonate and a suckercup, it slots into the bottom end of the installation jig and is placed on the glas before it is lowered with a ridge facing the phone I'm guessing to add pressure to middle of the protector as it sets, the lump also has a circle on it that it tells you to line the glue up in before lowering the screen protector.
so it seems a bit more fiddly to install as you are aiming for a target rather than just running the glue back to the protector, but I'm guessing it is to help with the fingerprint scanner and looking at how it installs user error could be a large factor in why people are seeing problems as the tolerances seem quite small. also I don't know if the S10 kits had this same install method but I know the Note 9 didn't have the step with the weight.
There is simply not a better screen protector out there. I have had Samsung phones since the very beginning (worked for a wireless carrier for 13 years). I've had every type of screen protector you can buy. I used to stick with Zagg glass as they were the truest to touch and I had a zagg store to install and replace them for $10 a pop whenever I wanted.
Then I found the Whitestone. I travel a LOT, I'm HARD on phones (backpacking, lots of water, etc). I use my phone for EVERYTHING. Once I got the hang of install NOTHING has come close. Durable, perfect tactile feel, nearly flawless install every time. I use fingerprint all the time (Samsung pay) and didnt have issues on Note 9, Galasy S10+ and dont expect them on the Note 10+ either.
You may have a little drying at the top of the protector but only after lots of direct sun, water submersion, or other. Make sure you cure it really well and you won't have an issue.
There is not going to be a better protector as the light adhesive barrier between the screen and the glass makes touch sensitivity perfect PLUS it reinforces the protector.
PROTIP: Get the 2 pack. Whitestone requires a picture of the cracked or damage replacement for a swap (only $10). Buy 2 so you can replace with the new one while getting the second swapped out.

2-pack was sold out when i placed my order. Of course its in stock now, but I've already ordered. I'll just stick with the single pack and take my chances. $10 for a replacement seems reasonable enough.
If I decide i don't like the Whitestone Dome, I'll go back to Ringke Easy Film. Its easily the best soft screen protector on the market. I do love the Whitestone on my Note 9, I'm just not sure about how it will affect the FP reader. As others have said, it seems to be a mixed bag of reviews.

reading the install it sounds like you really need to be precise with fitting the protector, so I'm guessing if you can fit it well enough you shouldn't see any problems.
I've had very minimal issues with mine installed on my Note 9. I have just two short spider-lines at the top and two at the bottom. Plus there is a little bubbling right on the curve of the screen. These all came after a bump or drop, the install was pristine for months. I'm going with Whitestone again!
I've read its recommended to scan your fingers in several positions and to scan the same finger more than once, to get the best reading, and that's what I'll do.
