Is the lack of a 64 GB option pretty well certain at this point? - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

This is the one thing that really bugs me about this launch apart from the aforementioned absence of an SD card reader. I don't know many people who wouldn't appreciate the option of a 64 GB variant -- personally, my photos of my kids nearly take up that much space alone (and surely it will be worse with 4K video and 22 MP images)!
Has there been absolutely no evidence of such an option? What do you think the odds are that we'll see one? Thanks!

No mention of it anywhere, that I've seen.
I don't take a ton of pictures on my phone, but I did take quite a few along with some video on my Moto X while in Las Vegas a few months back. I use Copy (a service like Dropbox made by Barracude) that uploads my photos when I'm plugged in to power and on wifi. That way if my phone is lost/stolen, I have an automatic backup of them. Plus, I can delete them from my phone to free up space and still have them stored elsewhere effortlessly.
I know that people like to have the photos with them, and you can, but if your device gets full, you can move them off to free up space. There are also options like an OTG flash drive or OTG cable with a regular flash drive. I bought one of these: http://www.woot.com/offers/color-otg-32gb-usb-3-0-drive-grey so I can move stuff easily between my Moto X, N7 and Chromebook if needed. Plugs right into my phone via microUSB, and PC with regular USB (the metal chassis itself is a USB plug).
With so many cloud services available, I find it hard to believe that so much local storage is needed as well. Just my opinion, I guess.

Why is no one mentioning Google Auto Back up? It's amazing. It shows your photos in the "Photos" gallery app that google makes like they were on your phone, but it doesn't take up storage. You can set it to auto-back up your photos, or only when its plugged in, only when on WiFi, etc. Works wonders. I only had a small 2.5GB of photos on my phone and then when I started using that I had only 500MB.

You guys are right, cloud storage solutions are phenomenal these days. Personally I use Google Auto Backup and I pay for the 100 GB storage plan, so I've got a good bit of space with full-res photos backed up. My issue there however is that yes, I would like to have the vast majority of them with me, if not simply due to the fact that my four-year-old likes to watch slideshows of them (and can be entertained for even 15-20 minutes in a pinch by doing so), and the Photos app by contrast (as far as I can tell) simply laggily loads them from the Google server (bandwidth notwithstanding!) when you page through them.
It's somewhat superficial for sure, but there is something to be said for having the stuff stored locally. I don't think it is a deal-breaker for me, but going from 80 GB (16 + 64 GB) on my Galaxy S4 currently to just 32 GB is going to hurt a little bit. I'd pay $100 more gladly for a 64 GB option Motorola!

If the phone comes with the rumored 50gb of Drive storage I'll be up to 125gb overall. Haven't paid a dime. My only problem with Drive and Auto backup for photos is that the organization of photos is horrendous! I have 30gb of storage in my OneDrive account. Since I use that for keeping my school and work documents in sync between computers I may start using that.
The problem with both, though, is that if someone would get ahold of my phone (or a drunk me for that matter) could very easily delete something in OneDrive or Drive on my phone and then be screwed with docs on my computer.
Now if Auto Backup went directly to a Drive folder....well then I could only use that for photos and OneDrive strictly for my important files.

kind of bothers me that theres no 64gb option.

I like cloud for some things, SD for others. Personally I can get outside of any coverage in about a 15 minute drive and often do which makes cloud storage for all needs untenable for me. Even in areas where there is coverage I would rather have all my music on my phone because it is often problematic to stream it and play it at the same time. Then there are the ringtones, wallpapers etc. I prefer these on the SD for flashing purposes, it makes it one less step to get my phone back up and running. I prefer cloud for long term storage of seldom used files or transfer purposes, pictures for examples.
All thats just me of course but a lot of people have different needs and uses, having the ability to put in an SD card and not needing it isn't a problem. Needing it and not having it is a problem. This means that no SD is a problem for some people whereas having an SD never hurt anyone. Thats win win.

Edit (forgot to answer origional Q): For now we wait and in the event of only 32gb for the near future- I refer to below.
Not everyone uses cloud as a preference, or its a non viable option for whatever reason. Just as some cant do without xprivacy by their own idiosyncracies. Its about personal preference. So either you hope for more storage or find ways around it, or you move on. If the turbo is my next choice ill consider other options for maintaining storage demands....maybe an otg adapter http://www.meenova.com/st/p/mrg2.html...or ill just consider the nexus 6...

64GB option confirmed at the press event. Also that third chain link pattern for the back is there too, they call it Ballistic Nylon.

VERY upset that the 64gb version is only available in Ballistic Nylon and not the Red MGF

I was waiting to see someone say this. Personally, I was going to get the black anyways, so I'm fine with it. Still, I'm surprised they didn't get a red option for the 64 GB especially since the red color is part of the Droid branding.

I am so unbelievably happy about this. Considering there were NO leaks at all about a 64gb option, this is AWESOME!
Since it's a bigger phone and thicker it'll feel good in hand. That coupled with the nylon back (grip) and a screen warranty for two years.....I'm going naked without a doubt!

ahhh I'm ordering this phone the second I can. amazing.

The 64gb version in ballstic nylon is good news...i was getting gloomy before. I hope more suprises continue to unflold.

Anybody notice how both the 32gb and 64gb ballistic nylon versions don't have a Verizon logo on the back? What's up with that?

It seems to vary by photo. All the pictures on the Verizon site have logos, from what I saw. The press photos don't seem to.

here is a picture of it on the verizon site, the 32gb with the verizon logo. I'm sure the 64gb will too.. I mean we're talking about the same company who squeezed their logo into the Note 3 button at the bottome. Regardless of how ugly it will look, the verizon logo will always be there.

Epic 4g Review Floodgates

Pretty obvious that the phone was intended for an August 20th release date considering all the sites just got allowed to post their reviews. And boy are there tons of reviews. Glad to tell you kind folks, it looks like this is going to be one killer phone!

thanks for the list!

Thanks for the list, seems to have the GPS issue.(confirmed in the engadget review) Can't wait for the Fix in September!!!
Great list of reviews! I was actually reading the Gizmodo review and rushed here to post it but looks like you beat me to the punch. The phone looks great and the reviews are mostly positive but I'm going to stick with my Evo.
Actually, Engadget is the only one reporting that there is still an issue with the GPS.
From Engadget review:
You also get an SD-to-microSD converter that you'll be able to use with the 16GB microSD card that comes pre-installed underneath the phone's back cover (though you don't need to remove the battery to get at it, which is nice). Why 16GB when AT&T's and T-Mobile's versions only include 2GB? Good question: turns out the Epic only has a little over 400MB of app storage internally -- not the capacious 16GB of the others -- so Sprint compensates by throwing in a beefy card. Though that'll work just fine for 95 percent of users, it's important to note that this means you can't get it up to 48GB of available storage by picking up a 32GB card. Since it's obvious Sprint tried to make this phone as "epic" as possible, it's unclear why they left out that internal capacity; the only thing we can think of is that they simply ran out of room with all of the phone's modifications over the standard Galaxy S like the slider mechanism, the LED flash, and the WiMAX circuitry. Hard to say.
that sucks. I guess with Froyo the 400MB becomes a non issue but after abusing my Captivate with the amount of stuff I already installed seems to just be a bother. Internal storage should of been 2-4g mininum imo. Still looks like it's the best phone of the year.
Update from Engadget
[Update: We just spoke with Samsung, who told us that Google is now requiring that the "use wireless networks" setting for location-based services be turned off by default in Android devices -- in other words, no AGPS unless you manually enable it. Sure enough, we went into Settings, found that it was disabled on the Epic, turned it on, and we were good to go. No GPS bug!]
Weird. I guess that's a "fix", but what if we are in the middle of no where (no cell towers near) we still need real GPS.

It's actually 1GB but I'm not sure how much of that you'll get to use.
It also means the Lag Fix used on the Vibrant/Captivate won't work here. it changes the I/O to write more efficiently by using the same logic used by Motorola. Unfortunately, you need space to do that (1.5 gigs in the Captivate) and it won't happen here. Making this phone the slowest of the bunch.

The Epic 4G reviews didn't mention any speed/lag issues..
The reason for the lag fix in the first place is b/c the Vibrant/Captivate went with a cheaper internal-SD card solution, rather than an on-board NAND solution. link
Does anyone know if the the 1GB ROM on the Epic is an internal-SD or did they hopefully go with NAND?
All Samsung's will most likely use the proprietary file system (RFS), so it's likely the EPIC will have it as well. The thing is that the EPIC may end up the slowest of the bunch because of Sprint's decision to penalize the internal storage.
From a Samsung Site on the Captivate...
"Remember, most phones so far have only had 512mb or 1gb to date for all that stuff anyways, so you've got all that, plus room to spare still on the ROM. That's one thing Samsung did right on this phone hardware-wise, give us that generous 2gb." All except the Epic.

Again, none of the reviews mention any slowness whatsoever. The link I sent in the previous post correlates the Vibrant/Captivate lag with the internal-SD, not the file-system. The jury is still out whether the Epic uses NAND or internal-SD for the 1GB.
Found this is the review so perhaps they did include all NAND with the smaller memory
From slash gear review
Happily, while use of the Galaxy S series was punctuated with freezes and pauses, anecdotally blamed upon the handsets’ use of an internal microSD card for their onboard storage, the Epic 4G seems generally free of such lag.
Click to collapse
The slowness is from the Vibrant and other devices with the larger storage using the slower SD card space to store the data there instead of nand. You can move this with root and su.
Will this happen with the sprint version? No telling but it might be better to only have the 1gb if its all nand and that is the only place the device has to store apps out of the box as opposed to a class 2 POS SD card that was pre installed.
400mb is about what the evo has, that or a little less and with apps to sd its enough.
Also, touchwiz is a terribly coded UI and that is causing a lot of the lag as well. Disabling it and removing it from the device and using a well coded launcher like ADW or launcher pro fixes any lag.
I'm not even going to consider buying this until it has root. Then I'll consider it. Nice that all the reviews are out early though.
I guess it depends on the review you read. Engadget wasn't so nice. They said the GPS issues weren't fixed as much as disabled via software. Also, they ran into performance issues and blamed it on the added bloat of software to handle the front camera, LED flash, and keyboard, using up the internal SD.
"We did, however, notice an occasional hiccup with the phone's many window transition animations where they'd flash or stutter; it was hard to tell whether this was a performance issue or simply a bug"
Also, after being at 97% battery, and using it for only 15 minutes, the battery died in 3 hours while in 4G. making 4G really only good for plug in use.
Overall, this review was more in line with the truth to me since the slash gear one was a little overly loving. I'll wait for a more in-depth review with benchmarks before i decide one way or the other. If they cannot fix the stutter/lag issues because they used up all the internal memory, i wont' get it.

Wow... I like how you quoted the review for some parts, but not this one. You wanted to leave out a key piece of information.
I'll quote the actual review.
"Speaking of battery power, we got 3 hours and 43 minutes of use from 97 percent power to shutdown with the phone in 4G hotspot mode while occasionally interacting with the handset..."
That's right, they ran it in 4G WITH WIFI HOTSPOT TURNED on. The wifi hotspot feature kills the battery on the EVO just as fast, if not faster.
My mistake, I meant 4G hotspot. Geesh, calm down. The point is the same, but i'll elaborate, using the 4G internet, specifically for access via a laptop, is nearly useless unless you're plugged in. I personally don't see 4G as useful for anything else because for surfing the net on my phone, sprint's 3G always seemed fast enough. I don't do anything on my handheld phone that requires massive amounts of throughput. the only use for 4G when I had my EVO was to run it's 20mb speeds to my Ipad when i had it out on travels.
The actual usefulness of 4G speeds or greater is another topic altogether. I only turn it on if I want to pull up a youtube video really quick, or when I'm about to download 9 updates for my apps. Most of the time, 3G is good enough with good signal.
i will add this, sprints normal internet speeds (3G) are the fastest and most stable of all the carriers i've had.
I would rank it like this:
1)sprint
2)Verizon
3)tmobile
4)ATT

"The device seems faster, doesn’t hang up or balk when navigating around quickly, and is much, much more fun to use. When we first started to use the EPIC we had to go back to the Captivate to make sure we weren’t losing it –seriously — because the 4G device felt so much quicker. Surprisingly, it’s true. Even the on-screen keyboard on the EPIC feels more responsive. We tried and failed to get the EPIC to stutter like we could (almost effortlessly) with the Captivate; the EPIC even boots faster."

Going nuts! with the limited space :( and other annoyances...

i think i'm hitting my limit here.
not sure if i can last a few more months with this limitation... (keeping fingers crossed for the next best thing that runs on 1700+2100)
i'm using Dropbox (3 GB) to ease the pain
i'm using Fiabee (1 GB) <--- that's nothing, it's like a drop in a bucket
i'm using Subsonic (not very useful, as it still uses local storage to catch the songs)
i'm using mSpot (same as Subsonic, easier to use, no need for server)
I'm using Picasa (but is useless unless you have actual space to take pictures)
I'm also using pixelpipe (yet another media sync that catches stuff locally, which also consumes local space)
the only real solution i see is to be able to plug in an USB flash drive to the SNS, and play my medias from there.
unfortunately that is out of the question at the moment, as no one have been able to get it working yet via USB storage driver
The problem with both dropbox and fiabee is their download rate is not fast enough to make them a viable Streamer
not to mention, you can't even access the files until you have downloaded them, which also makes it pointless as you (me) have no free space left to receive the files anyways
It's not fun (a very tedious task), having to keep uninstalling a bunch of apps/games every time i want to check out another app/game, or deleting a whole bunch MP3s / Videos that you use often, only to have to download them again a few minutes later.
on the SGS the 2 GB space for Apps/Games + MKV, DIVX and other media support on the SGS was like a GOD sent, also the extra microSD support really opened up the phone to all kind of possibilities.
unfortunately the SGS has its own demons as well like dying internal SD, GPS issues, bad file system, etc, etc, just to name a few.
seems like currently i'm stuck between the sword & a rock
......... i'm slowly starting to regret getting the SNS:
- main issue limited space
- unable to natively do Video Call other phones like Nokia, LG, Samsung
- no gorilla glass (already got a deep scratch with a minor drop, the old SGS went through a lot of dips without a single scratch)
the only positive thing i like the SNS:
- 2.3 OS
- the phone actually works without dying internal SD issues
is this a common thing are many people running out of space with the nexus s? i thought there was ample room with this phone with the new internal storage. i'm confused.

looks like you have a lot of media that you use often. That should have been your number one concern when making your phone buying decision. 1gb for apps should be more than enough space but maybe im kidding myself. And if you needed a phone with more storage space for media there were/are plenty of options available. just sounds to me like you didnt do your research beforehand. IJS

it's just me
not every one is a heavy user like i am
lets just say the phone is replacing my laptop, and i'm trying to do everything i was able to do on my laptop on the phone (which it can)
but the problem is the limited space
if it had the microSD support like its counter part Galaxy S, then it would have been a breeze to just swap another microSD to access the files you want quickly

still, i'll hang on to the SNS until a dual core with SAMOLED comes out, then i'll make my move.

@AllGamer
Honestly, mate, I'd suggest returning/sending your Samsung Nexus S back if you still can. I've watched your post history over the last week or so and every other post seems to be a gripe about the Nexus S(like this one) or wishing that you had something from the Galaxy S lineup. Its clear that this phone is not a good fit for you and you should go back to your SGS device, whatever it may be.
I'm not trying to start a flamewar, call you out, or disrespect you or anything. I just think you'd be happier with a Vibrant or what have you. Different strokes for different folks.

My other suggestion, get a dedicated PMP.

Different strokes for different folks.

don't worry mate
all comments are welcome.
I did play with the idea of getting the the SGS vibrant SGH-T959, i might even trade my SGS i9000 for the SGH-T959
Currently i'm toying with the idea of converting the SGS i9000 to use the SGH-T959 radio http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908120
in the end if i can find some Software alternative, then perhaps i can go on a few more months longer and switch to the next best phone all together, assuming they will support 1700+2100
"i'm using mSpot (same as Subsonic, easier to use, no need for server)"
hey man,did you update mspot??? recently.
they do stream from server now, without downloading it on your phone.
all my mspot(xept covers/albumart folder) are empty even after playing 30 songs.
When did you sign up for Fiabee? They upgraded my account to 15 GB on new years for being "one of the first to try it" or something like that.

not the case, i just though i could live with the limitation, but in the end it's not working out as planned.
still, i'll hang on to the SNS until a dual core with SAMOLED comes out, then i'll make my move.

lets just say the phone is replacing my laptop, and i'm trying to do everything i was able to do on my laptop on the phone (which it can)
but the problem is the limited space
if it had the microSD support like its counter part Galaxy S, then it would have been a breeze to just swap another microSD to access the files you want quickly

yeah well.. then I'm sorry but you did a bad job @ requierement engineering for your new device ;-)
well anyway. you should get some decent $$ on ebay for the nexus
Well, you could get an android pmp like archos 43. Nice device with sd card, and can obviously download music. Its their new, smaller line. 2.1, but hey. Its a pmp.

the Nexus S sells for a lot more here locally than on eBay
so i have no problem at all letting it go, but as i posted a few message above
the SNS is the most solid device so far released by Samsung, that being said
i find it very hard to find another phone with SAMOLED display that can beat the SNS, as the Vibrant is not very good else i've swapped the SNS for the SGS in a heart beat.
i still have another SGS here with me, but it's not compatible to 1700+2100

All you can eat everything for $40 FTW!

Why I think no removable batter/MicroSD is a good thing.

Lets talk about the MicroSD first
Like everyone I love to have a phone with MicroSD feature. It makes it easier to swap between my phones as well as to transfer data to my PC. I myself won't mind spending lots of money on a fast microSD card but I have yet to find one that is both FAST and LARGE in capacity. On my Note 4, i'm using Sandisk Extreme and my fastest bench mark test was 70mb Read and 39 Write. Now these numbers are decent but In my opinion MicroSD cards are not keeping up with the speed of phones these days which is cause bottleneck issue and is one of the reasons behind all the lag that people complain about.
Now with the Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 2.0 which has 350Mb/s Read and 150Mb/s, you can rest assure it will not cause any lag from viewing pictures and videos as well as swapping from app to app. Not to mention you can always plug in your OTG cable with flash usb and do all your backups there titanium backup or simply copying your data there which is what i'm doing currently.

Samsung has ultra fast 128GB UFS 2.0 ready for smartphones
As for the Battery,
While having a removable battery is a plus, from my personal experience I have yet to use it when I want too. I have extra battery and charger for my Note 4 but i always find my self plugging it in rather than taking the cover off and restart my phone. Now with all the new features to charge wirelessily and fastcharge 2.0, I don't think anyone would have any issue. Iphone users as well as other brands from nexus 5,6 and htc didn't complain about their battery then why should we when are ahead of the game in many ways?
With all the features we are getting on the GS6, I think i can easily sacrifice on these too.
I generally agree with you. But after 8 months or so my phone batteries are noticeably less able to hold a charge as much. My note 3 (loved that phone) went from 8-9 hours screen on time to not even 6 hours. Big difference. Changed the bettery and back to normal. This is what I want to be able to do especially if I keep the phone 2 years!

Most batteries have a life cycle of 500 charges. But then having non removable back doesn't mean the battery is not replaceable. You can always heat up the back with air dryer and pull the back off and i'm sure you will see many people doing a tutorial on that but we have to wait and see if it easy to do so or hard.
There's just no good reason to remove microSD support and no real argument to support the decision. Literally every reason you mentioned for supporting the decision could have been done without microSD support being removed. It's that simple. Use of microSD was an -option- that nobody would have been forced to use. Removal of options is rarely a good thing, and this isn't one of those rare exceptions.
Lack of a removable battery has only two good sides in most any situation, and one of them was left out of the picture here. Non-removable battery brings two benefits, and two benefits only.
1. Unibody design (Usually means slimmer, which at this point, it's highly debatable whether or not that's even a good thing)
2. Waterproofing (Omitted)
Personally, the 128GB of (hopefully) UFS will be enough for me and I STILL disagree with the decision. Why? Again, removal of options is rarely a good thing, and this isn't one of those cases. I can take or leave the removable battery. Simple fact of the matter is that I havn't had nor used a device where I couldn't change the battery when I felt like it regardless of whether or not it being removable was part of a spec sheet or not. With that said, I'm not a daily battery swapper, so I certainly see why people are concerned there.
Regardless, what should have happened is that there should have been a 128GB UFS option WITH support for a microSD utilizing up to 128GBs, period. I suspect that their reasoning (other than the obvious incredibly mild cost savings) will be for the sake of trying to do the impossible and "fix stupid." By fixing stupid, I mean you'll always have people who won't be able to comprehend that all flash storage isn't just any ole flash storage, and will whine and complain that their $10 Wal-mart microSD isn't as fast as the on-board storage. Which will lead to them saying the device is slow when in actuality they're just too "slow" to realize what the issue is. While I understand the concept thanks to my personal field of expertise, I've already realized the truth in that matter:
When you try to fix stupid, you piss off smart, and stupid stays stupid; just in some other manner of being stupid.
And of course there's the greed aspect; wherein all of a sudden, a would-be 32GB buyer becomes a 64GB buyer and a 64GB buyer becomes a 128GB buyer due to the lack of a microSD slot.
For how I use my SD cards (and it seems that I'm far from alone in this), the speed makes no real difference at all. I keep my cards loaded up with my most commonly used FLAC files and rarely make any changes to them. On my S4 I see no difference in opening music or video files compared to the internal storage. Copying new files to the phone via USB is certainly slower on SD, but that's the only situation where the speed difference is even noticeable.
For the OS and apps, the built-in storage speed is the only way to fly, but having more onboard storage is always better for me, even if it's relatively slow SD added to 128GB of super fast UFS. I've used OTG and it's completely annoying and clunky having wires & USB drives hanging off the phone, and the OTG route isn't nearly as compact as carrying an extra MicroSD card (or three).
Battery is less of an issue for me in everyday use, but I travel a lot for work and having spare internal batteries means I can sit in airports and on planes without having to have an external device hanging off of my phone to keep it running. What if you are running low on battery AND the files you need are on OTG? I don't think you can do both at the same time, something that would never be a problem on a phone with SD and removable battery.
As I mentioned in another tread, I don't think the battery issue is a big deal any more just because those portable battery chargers are cheaper than an extra battery. I just put the phone in my pocket with one of those and I am charged up in no time. I haven't bought a spare battery since my SGS3 for this reason.
As far as the SD card does though, I HATE that it's gone. It's not even a space issue, it's a functionality issue. I think 64gig is more than enough for me. I haven't filled up my 64gig card. However, when I go from one phone to another, I just put my microsd card in and I'm done. If my phone breaks, gets wet, doesn't turn on any more... I didn't lose anything, my titanium backup is on my SD card, I pull that out and put it into my replacement phone, and I'm good to go.
The process now to get a new phone up and running is now much harder and the risk of losing everything if your phone breaks is much higher. Yes, yes... there is a cloud. But without unlimited data, I don't want to back up to my cloud... plus I don't want my pictures being uploaded to the cloud anyway.

The entire basis for your argument is stupid.

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus runs the sane nearly 3 1/2 years later, in terms of the battery, as it did on day 1. I've never had to replace the battery, and in my opinion, the whole "batteries degrade in less than a year" argument is a sham.
Also, let's face reality, the average consumer isn't a techno nerd on a phone forum or a tech blogger. The average person looks at the phones in their local carrier store and picks what they like (if they aren't already set on an iPhone of course). The S6 stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of display, design, and the "edge". This phone will sell well, despite not having a removable back or SD card slot. 99% (yes...I made that up) of people out there aren't walking around with a spare battery in their pocket, or trying to carry 10,000 songs, and multi-gig videos on their phones.
If your phone were to suddenly die or break for some reason, good luck retrieving photos, videos, etc. from it. With a MicroSD storage, you can just remove it and be on your way.
I like to store movies and archive photos, videos, etc. and having expandable storage is extremely crucial. Would you buy a PC without a removable PSU or removable hard drives? Didn't think so.
The only logical explanation for Samsung to go this route, regardless of what's been touted in the news, is that they deliberately want a drop in sales and stocks and company image. Then the S7 will bring it back and they'll give the impression of it being a new breathtaking device for the people. Either that, or the S7 will be a flip phone.
I'm a Note user, and if the Note 5 goes this backwards route, then I will never consider Samsung as a brand again.
Well I think they would cut the SD card slot out mostly to save a few bucks and to get people to buy the larger versions of their phone. I do understand that if people move things like apps to their SD card they will miss the whole speed point of the phone. The only think I have ever put on my SD card are pictures and music... maybe a video now and then.... and if that moves any faster the music tempo will be off
I appreciate the fact that their new memory is much faster but people never do well with a feature being taken away.

They could have done with a simple warning.
The point of the SD is that you can move all your media to it, leaving the faster internal storage free for apps
I think its more of a personal preference. I used to be a person that was so "pro-removable battery", but when I had my S5, I wasnt even changing my batteries as often. Now that I have a Z3, which has no removable battery, I don't even think about battery because the phone lasts long. I charge my battery every night before I sleep anyways and it lasts me through the day. So long as the S6 does the same I will be happy.
Well said

Thats why you back up your stuff...its not wise to keep everything you own on a MicroSD, because it can crash and break just like internal memory can

You can backup and still have archives on your MicroSD for viewing.
And another instance, if you're on vacation and want to take many videos and photos with your device. You CAN with removable external storage. Backing up onto the cloud during vacations is not practical. Unless you're a millionaire with an endless cashflow for data. Look how much space a single 2 minute 4K video clip takes up. That'll fill up your entire device in no time. And then backing up gigs and gigs of data to the cloud? And then retrieving? Not practical. The cloud is not a compromise.
I am inclined to agree with the OP. The new nand is going to make the phone fly, and will help the phone capture great photos. I'm just finally glad they ditched the 16GB option. That should have disappeared with the S3.
I look forward to the head to head reviews with the M9. If the camera doesn't perform well, I'll most likely get the S6.

Do you plan on taking many 4K videos?
I have 60GB of Dropbox free (from a Samsung promotion) and I save all my pics on there, its not that bad. The only con about using cloud storage is safety of files. If you make a Box Cloud account, you get 20GB free. You can also retrieve them anytime (so long as u have a data connection, which could be a con in some cases).
I do agree that having a MicroSD card is more convenient, but I don't see it as a major dealbreaker

Is the 32GB enough for you?

Hi.
I just sold my S6 Edge 128Gb to get the S6 Edge+. I didnt use as much data as I thought I would. Im now even considering the 32GB version.
What version of the Plus do you have 32 or 64GB and especially those with 32GB has this been enough?

How much stuff do you carry around in your phone.?
I have a 32Gb G928F version - sim free and its fine, I wasn't prepared to spend an extra £70 on top of the £599 I paid for my S6 Edge + just for an extra 32Gb.
So i got a 64Gb sandisk, USB 3, OTG micro flash drive for £25

So bottom line is how much music or films do you want to carry on your phone? if like me you store your stuff on the cloud or USB drive 32Gb is enough.

all my pictures and videos go to onedrive and google pics so 32 gigs has been more than fine for me, i got my s6 edge plus almost 2 months ago and have over 20 gigs free space..
A Device which has unexpendable storage always sucks. You -32Gb lover guys- know that the one recovery backup is over 5 Gb even without much data on this phone? I mean there are good roms for s6 edge+ now and some guys -like us- are always switching their roms weekly even daily. Its not enough storage to get two or three backups on internal. There will be dozens of rom, can't even imagine that how much we will suffer because of the poor storage.
Not going to root

Yup, the rooting is nothing about the low storage trouble. You do root or not . It doesn't increase or decrease the device's storage. You have free internet to upload your stuffs to cloud perhaps we don't. So our stuffs always stay on internal storage which is not enough to hard users. If the guy love modifying and tweakking there will be a sick-trouble 32Gb Im sure.
I have an ipod which is the only device which will connect to the system in my car and keep my music separate so yeah it's enough for me. If I didn't use the ipod no it wouldn't be.

With 15-20 4K videos @ 3-5 minutes long, 150+ photos, current ROMs, Gapps, previous 2 versions of ROMs and gapps, misc pdfs for work, installed apps, and random other documents and such, a few backups, I've never pulled over 20gb on a phone.
That's all relating to AOSP. Obviously TouchWiz is more filled, but it can be slimmed down a bit. Regardless.... USB-OTG exists for a reason as does the cloud. I don't hold music on my phone. It's why I have Spotify and Pandora. Realistically, there's no need for anything above 32gb. If you're concerned about backuos, move them elsewhere, upload them, or utilize USB-OTG.
It's not rocket science... not to mention cost to data ratio, you're better off spending less for a USB drive over the 32gb extra for another $100....

Hey. As I said before if a person is using the device heavily, its not enough. Im archiving my documents since 12 years. Otg is not the healty solution while people are eating a tortilla on the moon.

To assume I don't use my devices heavily is an understatement. I can't remember the last time I've seen my data usage sub 40gb. To keep movies on your phone is ridiculous. You watch then once or twice. No need to keep them. Not to mention alternatives like netflix and popcorn time... perhaps cell coverage and data plans differ out there, but I have no need to keep movies or music on my phone when it's all able to be streamed. can't f you choose to keep 12 years of documents and whatever else on your phone without a backup source like a pic or external hard drive, I just hope you never lose your phone or get it stolen.. or crush it... or anything to damage the internal memory. It's definitely not the smartest choice.
Nor do I have the desire to spend an extra 100+ on extra internal storage for a device I'll have no more than 6 months. That's just wasted money. The best options are cloud storage and USB-OTG. Welcome to present and future technology. And if you want to rely on a device for music storage,at least get yourself an iPod or something with a remotely decent audio Chipset

Hey. I don't keep the movies and never watch twice, sometimes downloading generally transfering from other guy's devices with superbeam. I know the cloud tech and I have 2TB otg. I don't think that the ipod's sound quality is better than my devices' and no need to fourth device. Always search for new tweaks and mods to get higher and best sound quality due to that Im using android. Spotify, deezer and kind of apps are just useful to find new musics for me but I use qualified tunable music players. Whatever let the users decide for which storage capacity is useful for them. Thanks.

I've got a 1T flash drive I keep 3 back ups plus all my extra zips for mods, themes, kernels,Rom zips and whatnot. I keep one back up on my device and I've got 18g left on my 32g G928C.
32g is fine if you know how to manage the storage.

I used to have my songs with me all the time when I had an iPhone. Just an old habit of an Apple ecosystem (iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc.). My song library was 30 to 40GB and I had it synced to all devices, plus some random movies or series to watch while traveling.
I hate cloud services, simply because I live in a country with poor connectivity... but I have to say that after sugarsync, spotify and using more podcasts, my ege+ with 32GB still have 14Gb free.

just lol sir. One rom 1.2 gb, my one backup is over 7gb. I have 5 games over 4gb, 2gb music and 5.7 gb apps. Managing the storage is not changing the one bad truth. Whatever I do my job with my other devices but love edge's gorgeus design mostly. Just warn the guys who thinks to buy 32gb model.

T-Mobile variant external storage

I received mine yesterday and noticed there is no spot for my SD card... Anyone notice this and know why??
Its because there is no SD card support for the OP6T.....quite a simple answer. Some phones take SD cards, some do not. This phone does not. you should have know that had you done a little research before buying this phone.
Appreciate the feedback. I thought it was an iPhone thing and didn't even think that OnePlus did that.

It's more and more common to not have SD slots in phones. Big internal storage and cloud storage are taking over the need for SD slots, and freeing up room for other hardware features.
Personally, I've never needed more than a 64GB phone, but I've found myself waiting on an order for the 256GB version of the 6T. I suspect having the extra storage capacity will make me use it.
I'll never buy the argument 'its not needed' bull story, especially from OnePlus. Same for the headphone. Kinda violates their own motto: Never Settle. Such a small and insignificant change from a software/hardware view.

I've been in the same boat. Once I hit 64gb I've been good. Even with system backups.
But I'm also a heavy user of Google photos and Google Drive, so I can understand how it's not for everyone.
The only time I've come close is multi boot and having multiple iso's for drivedroid.

I wouldn't say never. The Nexus One had an SD slot (the g1 also had an SD slot and while not a Nexus, it could be considered the first in the Nexus line in spirit).
Anyway, not to get off topic. Just wanted to put this out there.

Just because you don't need/want it does not invalidate my complaint. The space is there, the software is there --- why argue? Are you a stock-holder?

so you bring up the no SD card argument every time OP has a new model ? Brilliant.

Being the OPO, OP2, OPX, OP3, OP3T, OP5, OP5T, OP6, and now OP6T have never had an SD slot...strange you just now noticed.

The OnePlus X actually had an SD Card slot, but yeah, point definitely taken.
Having no SD Card slot has otherwise been OnePlus' M.O., not exactly news.
Of course we'd all rather have the option.
But,unless OnePlus wants to dip their toe in the water again with a mid-tier/budget phone,I seriously doubt we'll see a SD Card slot on any future models.
It's one of their design/build choices to keep mfg costs down, don't see that changing anytime soon.

Again with your jump to conclusions. I'm a patient man, gave them plenty of time to make it happen and to go above and beyond expectations
I think it's a fair trade-off. If we were forced to accept only 64GB (which is less in practice) then the absence of Micro SD support would truly suck. But I think 128GB base is fair for most and the 256GB option is more than fair. 128GB needs to be the industry standard base option moving forward.
Cloud services can be helpful but ultimately you're at the mercy of data/WiFi coverage which I was never a fan of. But, like I said. 128GB base is fair enough. I can live with that.
If there is ever a need for extra storage for something like bringing along TV Shows or Movies to watch during a long trip or whatever, there's always USB-C Flash Storage sticks. They've gotten pretty compact and practical to use.

Saw this post and looked into USB c flash storage drives. Not bad priced. Just hope the 6T can read it. I had a USB c card reader from Anker laying around and put my 256gb sd card in it and the phone would not read it. So I tried my 128gb SD card...nope. Tried a 32gb, 8gb and a 1gb as well lol would not read. Also tried using the SD card adapter that you slide the micro into. Same, won't read.
Mainly just need it for movies and TV shows I have that I just haven't had time to upload to my Plex, also for the tons of roms I have for different emulators. Has anybody gotten any kind of card reader or external storage to work?

Oh, nice. I'm glad you mentioned this because I just tried this out and it works! It was just a theory because I never actually tried it on other phones. I just knew USB-C flash drives existed. I'm using one of the Samsung adapters that came with my previous Note and S phones and a PNY 128GB USB 3.0 drive. I transferred a picture from my phone to the drive and checked on my PC and it was there. I was also able to play an HD video from the drive on the 6T using the MX Pro video player (my fave video player).

Double checked settings all that. Probably just gonna return it. I'll be purchasing the meenova adapter. Thanks man I appreciate it!
