Brand new Note4 freeze and reboot - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

Humm...I'm probably one of the unlucky one. I received my note4 yesterday, and the phone kept freeze on me. Once it happened, I have to pull the battery, if I don't eventually it will reboot by itself. I have tried twice factory reset and also removed the sdcard but no help. I haven't install any third party apps except for FB and FB messenger. I called VZ tech support and they told me they didn't see any of my issue being reported yet. They also nice enough tried to located any local verizon store so I can just swap out my phone there, guest what, I'm an unlucky guy. No one has the white one in stock (they do have black one). So I called back VZ and they said they are going to overnight a new one out but I need to pay 299$ deposit (bill to my account, no need to put on credit card). Once I sent back the old device, they will credit back to my account, which is not bad. I just want to post this out here and if anyone ever has issue with your note 4 please feel free to post your experience and how you resolved the issue. Hopefully no one should need to post their issue, it's not FUN at all. Thanks!!!:crying:

Mine froze and rebooted once. I was looking at some pictures on photos backed up to Google+. Didn't do it anymore since than.

I think I found the issue. Every time I put the phone in "Battery saving" mode, let it sits for about 1 hrs and bang it froze. I removed and it's working great. In battery saving mode, the phone is a bit stuttering and laggy and little warm even very low usage, however without saving mode, it super smooth and flying. Well anyway I'm getting a new one from Verizon next week. You guys should try out the battery saving mode to see if you have any issue...Also I heard that they released an update xxxJ4 for note4 which suppose to increase battery life and added more stability but I don't see it for the Verizon model, is anyone has the info on this???
EDIT: nope just froze and reboot again...

You aren't alone. I had to return my Note 4 for the same issue. So far the Samsung rep at Best Buy says it's only effecting VZW phones and it has to do with an update Samsung pushed out. VZW adds crap to their updates and according to Samsung Field Service Support at 8pm CST on Thursday there were 7 issues. We tried factory resetting and a fresh software reload directly from Samsung to no avail .

Now I feel better, others do have issue too. Hey thanks for the reply.. If issue caused by an update, I would think more people will be impacted by this?

verizon Note 4 freeze and reeboot
New to forums and postings. This is my 3rd note product, had the 2, 3 and just received the Note 4 3 days ago. Let me start by saying 1 word. FRUSTRATING.....
i have had this p.o.s freeze and reeboot on me not less than 10 times a day since out of the box. It happpens when sitting still, typing, viewing videos, plugged in, not plugged in, case on or off. VERIZON says sorry sir, we have no updates or other reported problems. I Guess the only saving grace is it reboota itself. I sont have to take battey out. My son gote Note 4 at same time...same carrier and no problems. Wife got new note 3 same day hers freezes and she has to pop out battery. New note 4 and note 3 replacements on way. Worst phone i have owned to date.

You are not alone my T-Mobile note 4 is unstable too.

This appears to be a worldwide problem. Many Note4 users are complaining the same thing in my country. IMHO, it could be exynos' problem.

I am still on Kitkat, occasional problems are caused by SwiftKey, which doesn't load sometimes, but I never experienced something like you describe.

I've had my Note 4 for nearly a year now, and I don't think it has ever frozen. Clearly, you guys have defective phones.

G2 Shut off by itself this morning and won't turn on.

Early this morning, I unplugged my G2 from the outlet before leaving to work. The damn thing just shut off and won't turn on again...
I tried the power button, the optical pad button+power, took out the battery and back in multiple times, many times plugged in and not plugged in.
What a POS phone, I mean we get a 1.3gb usable space not the advertised 4gb, it also "corrects" itself with a hidden mirror OS so it's very difficult to root, plus the damn loose hinges and the screen ribbon exposed when the hinges are fully opened, the screen also has a very subtle yellow hue, plus reports of random reboots, market problem where google goggles won't install, live wallpapers crashing and freezing up, and finally the POS just dying on me when I need it for work.
If you have a G2 with no problems (yeah right) then congrats. I'm really considering withdrawing from the extended contract and going with the iFail.
Sorry for the rant, just a little pissed off and the customer service lady was a real *****.

Yup. Oh BTW. The e39 is also a POS.
You're not alone, man. Between this and the Vibrant headache, I fear my days with T-Mo are numbered. It was a fun decade, but it doesn't look as if they plan to change their course anytime soon.
Unless, of course, they want to start carrying the Desire HD?
We'll see what G2 #2 brings tomorrow. If it's more of the same problems, I will be a disappointed man.
This happened to me too. But I managed to power it back on after fiddling with removing the battery.
Yeah my g2 refused to turn on a couple of times now without taking out the battery and putting it back in.

Sweet observation. You should stay away from both then.
I don't blame you. T-Mobile's customer service has been **** for me too. First they tell me I can exchange it at the store only to have the store tell me no, sorry you have to ship it back. Then they make me pay for shipping, too. As far as the G2 goes, it broke while in my pocket, so no thanks. Maybe they'll rework the hinges soon. Otherwise, I'm just gonna use this crappy ass G1 until the Desire HD comes around.
mines shut off this morning.. first, my on-screen Android Keyboard went missing.. so I shut it off, turned it back on. Then it asked me if I'd give access permission to Google App Engine?? Are they going to start monitoring my apps now?? Just asking? Don't know what that does.. anyways, so after that.. my G2 just sat there til I wen t to go check the time and my phone was off! tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't! So I took the battery out and rebooted. Its on now but this is the second time this week! And not to mention my hinges are starting to become an issue as well! Not cool! They need to bring the Desire HD over so I can replace my G2 with that!
Yeah it happen to my g2 as well. This phone is really not making my android experience any good. tmo need to address these issues ASAP, and i work for them!!! im going to check the "known issues" on the g2 when i get into work 2mrow and see wat is up with this.
i suggest you all who is having these issues to give tmo a call so they have enough calls from customers to generate a ticket with HTC and lvl3 techs to address these issues. Just because tmo is not on these forums and reading about customers issues.
my phone turned off yesterday and also this morning. idk if maybe me trying to snooze the alarm accidently turned it off so im putting my phone in a diff location tonight and checking tomorrow-- if its off tomorrow im calling tmo asap!
My G2 just shut off itself when I was replying to a text. I pulled the battery and reseated it and try turning on but it does not do anything. If I connect it to the charger, the orange charging led just flashes on and off. It's been 20 minutes and I have not been able to turn it back on.
OMG, the desire's symptom comes to G2
Mine as well.
Well my G2 just turned it self off as well today. It was unresponsive to the power button. Took battery out and re-installed and powered back on and has been working ever since but thats just not right.
Edit: Not sure if this is worth anything but this happened shortly after I put the market widget on my home. I've had Beautiful Widget running for a week so don't think that was the problem but not even sure if the market one caused it but thought it might be worth mentioning.
Mine has also soft reboot back to the G2 screen 2 or 3 times now. Dunno what's going on
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
I have had this happen twice. In fact, my phone is in that state now. I am going to the TMO store. However, if I decide to return the phone, it isn't for this issue alone. As a side note, I thought this had happened to me with the TMO phone I was playing with in store before I bought mine.
If you take the battery out, wait about 10seconds, and re-install it you will be able to power the phone back up. Anyway, this behavior could be due to either a bad part or a driver problem.
*UPDATE*
Sadly, after talking to the TMO rep at the store, I elected to return the phone rather than exchange. While they wouldn't say how many, they have gotten "several" phones back because of this. My hats off to the Seattle TMO store as they made the return non-hassle and because I was returning it due to a defect, I didn't have to pay the restocking fee.

Sound advice, especially regarding the e39.
Hey guys,
After another freeze, I was able to actually connect via ADB. The shell was working fine.
Anyways, I did a logcat, and I saw the attached code looping.
http://pastebin.com/DV3uVYJg
It just keeps looping on these audio logs.
Any thoughts?
Anyone else get logcats similar or different than this?

I had the same issue with my phones screen would just shut off and I would have to pull the battery out just to get it back on. I called tmobile and the answer I get is "that is not a known issue but def we will look into it". So all I did was go back to a tmobile store and trade it out for another one. Hopefully this won't happen again.

[Q] Re-enabling a Nexus7 that was "remotely disabled" by Google?

So I have kind of an interesting situation. A few weeks ago, I ordered a new Nexus7 8gb for a gift direct from the Google Play store, and shipped via UPS. On the day it was delivered, UPS's tracking showed "Delivered to the front door" however it never made it there. So I called Google Play Support and they had me reply to an e-mail with the words "I consent" to allow them to refund the charge and "remotely disable the device" to make it "unusable as a phone or as a computing device for any purpose".
So I did that and they promptly refunded me, and I placed a new order, which ended up being delivered with no problems. However, yesterday my neighbor knocked on my door with the original shipment in hand, apparently it had been delivered next door, and they were away at the time so they hadn't seen the package until then. Out of curiosity I booted up the tablet fully expecting it to be bricked once I connected it to wifi or at most after I had attached my google account or tried to do anything on the Play Store app. However, it has so far worked flawlessly with no visible restrictions, I even updated all the apps and performed a system update with no issues.
Just to be on the safe, and more honest, side though I sent Google a follow-up e-mail to let them know what happened and that the device had not been disabled. They responded just to say that it "can be disabled at any time from now" and to make sure anything I had on there is backed up.
So my question(s) to you guys are, first has anyone had any experience with this, aka Google remotely disabling the device, and know what actually happens to it? And second, since it appears Google has no desire to collect the hardware back from me, is there any way to bring it back to life after that the disabling action has happened, via a hard-wipe and using custom ROMs ect, or will it be essentially a $200 paperweight?
Thanks!
I think, tho maybe wrong but when they send out the "kill" signal it goes out for limited time so that if the item is not switched on during that period then when it is switched on it could/should be fine.
I may be wrong but past experience with a found iphone would suggest this to be the case.
As for the last bit I would as assume that once killed only google can breathe life back into it.

Ah ok, well if thats the case maybe I should just power it off and wait awhile before attempting to use it, if theres a chance I would be able to avoid their "kill signal" altogether.
I just assumed at the very least they would blacklist the tablet's IMEI/serial immediately, so that even if the device itself wasn't bricked it wouldn't be unable to utilize any of google's services.
Flash a custom ROM and recovery asap I say.
Good on you for being honest and telling Google about what happened. Good karma goes a long way! I'm more surprised though they didn't request you send it back to them.

Yeah, I was surprised too when they didn't respond back with instructions to send it back to them or at least have UPS come pick it up, since it was UPS who was really the one at fault.
It just seems like a waste to me that a shiny new Nexus 7 will now most likely just become trash, which is what led me to ask here if there was anything I could do to save it from an early grave.

I'm not sure how its wrong if I notified them that I recovered the device, and all they said was "it will be disabled soon" and made no mention or request to have it sent back to them? Its apparent they don't want or need it back (I'm guessing the costs they'd incur in return shipping, handling, repackaging it, ect. would make it not really worth it for them to try to resell.), so is it wrong I'm trying to get some use out of it?
Also I believe I read that they file a claim with UPS in these instances, so most likely receive some type of reimbursement from UPS to at least mitigate the loss, which is probably another reason they haven't asked me to send it back. *shrug*
@shibbybypass - regarding your offer I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it yet, probably going to just let it sit awhile and see what happens. But I will keep your offer in mind.

Yes you are
He contacted the vendor, they did not request the unit back. Nothing wrong here.
Now if he didn't contact google, and was trying to get around the kill signal; that's another story. But unless you are calling the OP a liar.. nothing to see here.
Dude what is the status of the device now ???
Is it still working, I have a friend with the same case
But his device still on and google said its scheduled to be disabled

We owned computer / networking business in the mid 80s to mid 90s.. what happens is the seller files a claim with ups. they are compensated for there loss. UPS Does not care about the item at that point . UNLESS Google files to ups item has been found. Then ups will ask for it But only Sometimes.Obviously google is not taking this second step.. Im sure this happens more then you would think. UPS Looses alot of packages. they just handle so many more its not so well known..
As far as them killing or locking the device.. Its only for google WALLET And the wallet nfc function. If you unlock lock then re-unlock the device it will have a new nfc id .
Here is how i know the above sentence..
First i bought a 8 gb nexus 7 from play store. (8 was out of stock ). It had bad screen lift. I called google and they said i could it order a 16 then gat a rma for the 8 when the 16 comes.. So the day i got the 16 gb . before i took it out of the box. I called google got the rma for 8 gb. Got the email telling me to disable wallet. I did so.. after i opened the 16 setting it up the screen cracked under (another story i will not get into here) I called google to explain what happened . they told me to send it back and to keep the 8 until i got a replacement for the 16. While setting the 8 gb tablet back up google wallet would NOT Work..
i called google back . they told me to unlock it again . lock it back. Remove it from my wallet account.. Then i could unlock it again and set it up...
this i done. and it worked fine. So it makes me think they do NOT RENDER THE DEVICE DISABLED Only the wallet features..
sorry for. such a long story ..
since you asked them if they wanted it back and they did not . i would say your fine with keeping it.. Keep the emails documenting you contacting them.
Good Luck

4 nexus 7 in one month ...

Hello,
i want to share what happen to me and how sad and dissappinted i'm with the ASUS nexus 7
i went through 4 nexus 7 (2013) in less than a month and I'm done... i got the first one when they first came out, as soon as i turn it on it said the goggle keyboard was not compatible, and every other app was not compatible, end up doing a factory reset and "it work" but the battery was only lasting 3 hrs. so i went and got a new one.
second one looked like it was working fine and i had it for a full 2 weeks... then i notice the back part where said "Asus" it was making a clicking noise, i thought it was no big deal but then the noise got louder and it was through the whole wide area of the ASUS brand in the back
third one ... fresh from them box after installing all my apps, asked me to do a reset for an update and got stock on re-staring loop over and over ...so away to bestbuy i went AGAIN.....
last one same thing had to a reset for an update..... and i got stock on the "X" of nexus and it recycles over and over and over ....
called android the guy said calls Asus that's a hardware issue
called asus... the guy said to send it over might take up to 10 days and i have to pay for the shipping.....
at this point I'm done I'm going tomorrow to return it........sucks cuz i don't want get a samsung with all the junk the put in their tables ...nexus was the way to go, for me with the pure android experience.....i'm pretty upset with the whole deal....
any advise ?
Wouldn't know what to tell you except return it and try some place else. Bestbuy might of gotten a bad shipment or something. Some have reported build quality issue but a lot of others have reported having no issues what so ever look here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2407866
I as well got mine off amazon, through amazon them selves, no separate sellers and have had very good luck with no issues after testing what others have reported. Can only say keep trying maybe some where else if have to other wise like you said if your too fed up then maybe go with something else. The new Asus memo fhd's are coming out soon but went with the nexus 7 my self because looked like had the best options, also the new nexus 10 should be coming out at some point just don't know when.

Google Keyboard is not needed because you already have it. Plus this isn't the device fault, its because 4.3 Android is new. This happens every update. Some developers only allow an app to install to specific versions. 3hours battery seems low but that depends what you do. 3 hours of screen on time playing a game is normal.
The clicking noise is the camera shutter. Most cameras do this.
Update causing bootloops... Sad to say that it appears to be a bad update that is effecting everyone. Just ignore the update or flash a custom rom.
I know you are frustrated but the devices all sound like they were fine. There aren't any reports I've seen of many defective units. Just new 4.3 software pains. The Nexus devices are mostly for developers to get access to cheap hardware with the latest software. Hence why other manufactures don't upgrade until after a few revisions.
The N7 is a great tab if you can manage the buggy update. You can skip the upgrade but it will keep asking to install it.
Unless you need a tablet now, perhaps, in your case, it would be best wait a week or two until a new update drops.

Good info. Not sure if that IS the fix as everyone I've talked too said a factory reset did little to solve anything.
It WILL fix a bootloop but it will not stop the random reboots that eventually cause the bootloops.
The reboots are from bad factory images. The only fix I've seen work is to reflash the stock rom that Google has posted.

Well pure android doesn't have root. You need root for such apps like Titanium backup and App Syncing Apps. CM is just a rom. Actually it is a very stock like rom. Its pure android much like what we have on our Nexus devices but it heavily modified by the CM team. Even though more recent builds have been closer and closer to stock apps, most are complete rewrites. They have their own Camera, Dialer, Launcher, extra settings, and Theme support.
CM uses their own special kernel and drivers. It helps when troubleshooting an issue. It works very well and a great option right now.

With all the returns going on ... I'm waiting for a great deal on refurbished 2013 Nexus 7.
I bet I can make dozen people @work to jump on the deal.
Google may raise the price on 2014 Nexus to make all of us pay.
Stuck at X logo?
Just from there enter recovery holding power + volume up when the Android Guy appears with the no command press again power + volume up then wipe cache and reboot if still stuck at the X logo repeat but factory reset this time. That's what I did with mine. In my case just wiping the cache fix it.

I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought a note 4 ATT from someone on ebay and the phone is in mint condition. I turned it on and played with it for a bit and it rebooted, then got really hot then lagged and rebooted. could not do normal boot
ddi: mmc_read failed
odin mode high speed

samsung official
system status custom
lock off

some other stuff.
Then i reset it and it booted fine until i took a few pictures and it started boot looping. should i install the stock rom and how do i do this ?

If it's getting hot something its not happy. Usually gets hot when it's working hard.
That's what I found on mine anyways. Kind of like a fever. Something's wrong with your body it gets hot.
Same on a phone.
Usually happens to me when I flash something wrong.
Late nights, building something and maybe put files in the wrong spot, like app instead of priv-app. Or forget to put them in at all.
Good luck.
so i flashed a new stock rom and now the phone still occasionally gets hot but if i take 4-6 pictures with or without the flash the phone turns off and i have to pop the battery out to get it to turn back on. it seems to do this whe nthe battery is below 20%. im trying to test this now. When im unable to edit the accounts area, i get an error that says settings has stopped? last but not least theres no way to disable the shutter sound. Before i flashed the new stock rom there was an option.
try boot your phone without sd card.
Sorry to tell you this.

Unfortunately, you have fallen into a sinking boat like a lot of Note 4 owners. From what I can feel, the ddi: mmc read fail issue is actually a hardware problem, but which hardware is unknown. Many speculate a failing eMMC chip, others speculate power IC. But from what I have experienced and no matter what I did, I couldn't fix mine. I have the same issue and actually bought mine off of Swappa. From what I have heard and experienced, the phone runs it's best on stock rom, and a temporary fix is to install a wakelock app and set it to Mode 4, but this is only to stop phone from crashing during sleep, and won't fix it crashing and lagging during use. I would immediately arrange a refund or a PayPal dispute if I were you. I apologize that you got into this situation but no one has found a concrete fix. Best bet is to refund it. Best of luck on getting your money back.

I dunno what's wrong with this thing. Still cant access accounts due to settings stopping (only settings issue). The ddi mmc_read thing hasn't happened again but using the camera sometimes makes the phone turn off and sometimes its getting very hot. I hate to give it up because its in such good cosmetic condition., it looks brand new. I filed the claim with eBay and I also contacted the seller so I guess its a waiting game.
Could a bad battery cause the camera to turn the phone off or make the phone get hot and laggy?

In my experience, the battery isn't a problem, I have bought multiple off of Amazon and they all had the same effect on the phone, nothing. If the phone is getting very hot, the system might be overworking the poor SnapDragon 805 to where it has to throttle or even shutdown, if Knox is already tripped, you might want to try CyanogenMod to single out TouchWiz being the laggy slow OS it is. If Knox isn't tripped, I don't recommend anything like that because the eBay seller can refuse refund if you trip Knox (At least in the US). In US, at least, you don't have to prove that the customer's modification actually damaged the device to refuse refund because of it. Camera can make phone turn off if the eMMC is the problem, as the camera creates a buffer on the storage to help speed up picture taking. If you have a settings issue however, you can always try reflashing the stock software on with ODIN and see if you just had a bad flash on the device. That won't trip Knox. Good luck with the refund, and as future advice, since Note 4's have started failing like crazy, The Note 4 might not be a safe thing to buy online anymore. Almost ready to go back and buy an S5 again.
Thanks for the advice. I can't get a new phone right now and since I'm on a budget my choices r limited. Lgg4 seems like its a huge headache with its contact failure so a used one of those is out of the question. I figures the note 4 would be the best option.

Yeah, I know how you feel, unfortunately, I bought mine off of Swappa, it started acting up, seller wanted me to pay shipping to send back, but I am on such a tight budget I couldn't. I decided to hold onto it anyways just in case something could fix it. If I were you, I know it's a bit smaller, but the S5 is a pretty good choice, I had bought a used T-Mobile S5 before my faulty Note 4 and it ran amazing. Plus, the used S5's are fairing quite a bit better than the Note 4's are. I had gotten a Note 4 because I was thinking, it's like an S5, but bigger and better, and with a pen. Too bad this hardware failure is letting people down now. I don't even know if you can't find them new either.

I'd go with flashing stock ROM again also. What I should have also added was, after flashing with ODIN, boot into recovery and do a factory reset. Obviously something in there is still jacked.
Either ODIN flash then do a factory reset, or do a factory reset then ODIN flash. Can't hurt, may help.
Perhaps flash TWRP and do an advance wipe also.

just wanted to update the post. I contacted the seller who said they would give me $75 back to have the phone repaired if theres an issue. She still is insisting the phone was fine when she had it. I said i would like a full refund so im waiting to hear back. But i did flash a stock rom and due a wipe. i also bought a new battery and so far the it hasnt gotten the ddi mmc read failure . it does seem to get warm quickly and while using a cpu process app my cpu is always bouncing between 10-30%.iv only downloaded 2 apps into the phone so far. 1 app still crashes after a while and the phone rebooted once after taking about 50 pictures with the flash. on the original battery it would lock up and shut down after 5 pictures, i would have to wait like 20 minutes to turn it back on. it sucks because i love the phone and really need it. i only paid $180 for it and i doubt ill be able to get a similar phone for that price. Ive read here that the ddi mmc read failure is a precursor to alot of hardware failures so now my heart is broken. Anyway thank you all for responding.

That is a hell of a price. She must not have known how much to sell it for or there was a problem.

PH-1 losing 30-40% battery while powered off

I have discovered my PH-1 has an unusual problem. If the phone is powered off for a day or two it loses a substantial amount of battery. I found this out when I switched back to my S8+ while on a trip and when I went to switch back to the PH-1 it was down to 60 something percent battery when it was at 100 percent when I powered it down.
This is new behavior as it wasn't doing this when I got it.
Thinking it was a fluke I repeated the exercise a few times with the same result. I reached out to Essential support but because I purchased the phone used (off Swappa) they told me to pee up a rope after making me jump through hoops for week.
I tried a hard reset, re-applying the latest patch, and re-flashing the latest Pie via fastboot. Nothing has worked which makes me believe it is a hardware issue.
Just for laughs I powered up my Nexus 5X which has been powered off for months and it was still at 100% battery.
Anyone have anything I can try? I really like this phone but now can't trust it.
I guess as this is the second time I got burned buying a used phone (first Google and now Essential) I will stop using Swappa. The manufactures will not help so you are on your own when you have issues. I realize the manufactures aren't obligated to help second hand device owners but it still sucks when you have issues not of your own making and they blow you off.
That sucks.
Ideally the seller should have been open enough in the description and have explained that this problem exists. I don't know how it works with Swappa as I never used it, but on eBay you can try and work it out with the seller or even open a case saying the phone is faulty. Your best bet is to contact the person who you bought it from and ask if they have an original proof of purchase, or if they're willing for you to send the phone back for a full refund.
It really sounds to me like a battery issue which would be a definite cause for an RMA, I've not seen anyone mention this problem before though.
Sent from my PH-1 using XDA Labs
I'm not sure the seller knew of the problem as it wasn't behaving like this when I first received it. I'm not really blaming either the seller or Swappa. No OEM is going to help you out if you purchased second hand. It's a potential pitfall that purchasers need to be aware of. I was aware of it and still got burned.
I would really like to find a way to resurrect this phone as I loved it. But I won't buy another one. Short of trying to replace the battery I just have run out of things to try.
One thing to try would be to see if it does it with no user installed applications whatsoever.
I'd factory reset it and uninstall everything and see if you still get the drain.
Given that it seems to happen when the phone is off I doubt it's an application, but it doesn't seem like you have many other options.

Thanks but I've already went that route. I re-flashed that latest Pie image and didn't sign in or install anything. Same issue. I'm pretty sure the battery is toast.

OEM might help if the device is still in warranty and whoever you bought it from has the original purchase receipt. Or they have a system like OnePlus where all you need is a screenshot of the order, doesn't matter who owns the actual device.
I try to buy phones in new condition, or at least make sure there's some warranty left plus a purchase receipt of some kind.
Unfortunately changing the battery isn't an option, Essential Phone has no spare parts available so I doubt you'd be able to find one for replacement. Your best bet is to contact the buyer and try to get a proof or purchase off them, or just live with the issue. If you have the phone as a daily driver it won't bother you too much right? Do you feel like the phone drains battery quickly when it's on as well? What kind of Screen on Time do you get with it?

I don't know if I can still contact the seller or not. I can talk to someone at Swappa and find out. That actually is a good idea and worth trying. I haven't run the phone as a daily driver since I discovered the issue because of all the testing Essential made me do and my own experimentation. It does seem to drain more quickly but at this stage I can't be sure.
I may just use it as a very fast and expensive mp3 player.
I just thought I would update this thread. Thanks to CamoGeko I decided to pursue the Swappa angle and contacted them and asked them if they would contact the seller on my behalf which they have done. I made clear that I was not accusing the seller and was just hoping for his assistance. I have heard from the seller and he may have some documentation and is checking into it. It may or may not fly with Essential but it is the only avenue I have left so why not give it a go.
I'll update the thread again once I have more information.

That's great to hear. Hopefully they can provide proof of purchase which means you'll be able to get a replacement device from Essential!
Good luck and hope you get something sorted.

I had the same issue with the battery drain after turn off the phone. In my case, I waited until the empty battery.
After 8 hours without battery I plug the phone to the charger and the issue was gone. In my case was after the security update 5 july in Android 8.1.

Wait 8 hours without battery. After that plug the phone to charger, it's the only trick
Thanks. I will give that a shot. I left it on overnight and it lost 30% of its charge sitting there doing nothing. No radios were turned on.

No. I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm trying to drain is completely. I'm not using the phone so it's taking longer than I would like. It's weird, it drops 20-30% overnight but doesn't seem to drain excessively while powered on.

Ok. I got it to drain completely and let it sit for about 15 hrs. Charging it now. I'll report back when I have some info. Thanks for the suggestion. Even if it doesn't work for me it was certainly worth trying.
I am really curious to see the outcome. Thanks for the updates.

I was looking up reviews to decide if I should buy one of these and found this forum. I hope for a good result because I have heard some positive things about this phone. Other than this do you have any other input about it?
