FoxFi Works! - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

So I was really worried that without root FoxFi wouldn't play nice, but I used my paid FoxFi today and had to install a vpn certificate and manually enable the hotspot the first time but it was up and running afterwards with no problem!

Same here. Relieved, because there's no guarantee of anything happening with root yet.

Yes. I have unlimited data with Verizon and bought the device outright.

Technically this isn't allowed, but will work with unlimited data correct? I have unlimited data but no tethering plan. Just don't want any charges for tethering

FoxFi is nagging for unlock to paid version fee.
Anybody know of a wifi tether app that works on our non rooted note4, free?

I have unlimited data and no tethering plan and use FoxFi (a lot). No additional charges on my bill (yet lol).
Side note- Is there a way to make a widget to turn on/off FoxFi if I keep the certificate installed? Similar to tasker maybe without root?

For anyone who want to use FoxFi and doesn't want to use lock screen security, check out this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lukekorth.pebblelocker

Foxfi(pdanet+) does not have any direct android intents. You would need root to Do a "one click" hotspot with foxfi.

Are you serious?
You're complaining about paying $7 ONE TIME to avoid $40/month? Sheesh.
Pay the $7 and be done with it already.

It appears to be our only option.
It does work well though.
My only concern is if it will keep working once we get upgraded to android lollipop

I think we know the likely answer. Not only will we lose about 20% of our app storage and have app issues, probably lose Foxfi as well.

Block the updater with this or this.

Any of you brave souls updated to Lollipop yet?
Does it break Foxfi?
Recently purchased the license and will be going on a trip for a few days and will hold off updating if it breaks Foxfi.

Hi!
I installed it yesterday afternoon, tried to log-in for a couple of hours but it only worked this morning. I have already chatted with a friend using whatsapp on iphone! Cgorki, thx for sharing.
I've been running and using it for almost 6 hours now with mobile internet always on and listening to music but when I go into battery usage this doesn't show up. Does this mean that it doesn't use battery or is there something else? It doesn't seem to drain a lot of battery because I still have about 85% left.
Thank you..
...well they obviously developed an app which charges your battery instead of draining it
I also have no problems communicating with iPhone users, also able to attach maps links, voice messages, pictures and videos
Uh, is this supposed to be distributed? I thought it's still a close beta.

When the owner provides a direct Link to the apk on his own servers, it doesn't really look like a closed beta.
Loving it. Thanks so much
Still random disconnects when sleeping. It only works after app and service are restarted.
Had it on the iphone, works great. I have been waiting for this for months and months now, but they still don't want to make it final. Either they are slow, it is just too hard to work with without the push thingy á la iphone.

well if you develop for android, you develop for more than only one device like for iphone, thats why it takes longer... btw. I can not confirm disconnects while phone is in sleep mode...

Yes I noticed the update. I am using wifi only for this week. From next week on, I have a new contract with mobile data. Maybe there is a problem connecting after a while of disconnecting.

That's weird, I receive messages without ever opening it first, straight after booting and completely leaving the phone alone.
Under settings it always says service has started right on the minute that I booted my phone
*edit* Sorry I think I misread you, last night it gave me the option to install the latest version, and the change log said it fixed many random crashes, so far running great. But I'm sure you've upgraded
so far i can NOT use it, says auth failed.. any tips?
if you want the auth to run, email the support (even if the app says do not!) I did that and I got my access about 2-3 days.

mailing them will do nothing, I'm pretty sure they didn't put you on any "beta list"
you get your access just by trying to contact their servers, after hours/days your phone is successfully registered, thats what me and many other users have experienced.
I must have sent 14 messages untill I got through. Dont try it more than once, keep trying every couple of hours. Or even the next day. Once you get the auth, all reinstalls will be good to go.
Has anybody read the EULA?
It's talking about a "free trial period", and then a subscription fee per year.
Is that the same with the iPhone-app?

HoRNDIS: USB tethering driver for Mac OS X

Hi!
I spent the last week or so working on a project that I call HoRNDIS (pronounce: "horrendous") -- a Mac OS X driver that allows you to use your Android phone's native USB tethering mode.
It's a kernel extension, and requires NO software installed on your phone, and NO background apps on your Mac; if your phone supports RNDIS tethering, you're good to go! To make you salivate a little more, it looks like this when it's running:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
I've tested it on my machines, and a few of my friends have tested it on their machines, but it hasn't gotten *hugely* wide testing yet, which is why I'm still tagging it as a [BETA].
If you're interested, give it a shot... you can grab it from my web site, and if you're so inclined, get the source on GitHub, too.
Let me know if it works for you!

This is awesome!
This works great on my VZW GS3. Seems more stable than wi-fi tethering. Easy to set up. Been looking for something like this for a while.
Hey, this works great! I've tried hundreds of tips for my SGS and none worked until this one. Thank you very much.
I have one question, though. I'd like to tether my phone WIFI connection to my Mac (not only the 3G connection). Is it possible with this kernel extension? I tried but it didn't work with the Wifi, only with 3G.
I don't know if this is not possible at all, even on Windows, or anything else.

At least on my Galaxy Nexus, that works. You might be able to do that with CM?
Not sure why you would want to do that, though...
This works fantastic on a Nexus 4 on 4.2. Anywhere I can donate a few bucks for beer money?
Works great on a TMo SGS3. Thank you!
This is awesome!
Fantastic. Works great on my Samsung Galaxy SII HD LTE (E120S).
i'm going to try this!! you are the man!!! thanks!!
Confirmed Working
On Sammy Galaxy S2 Skyrocket on CM10 (stable & latest nightly) and OSX 10.7.5.
If it doesn't work at first. Make sure you reboot your Mac and then give it time to connect with your Android.
Thanks for this! I hate using bluetooth for anything and I have found that hotspot really makes this particular phone get really hot. Should help out with that since it is not transmitting via Wi-FI hotspot, saving my components within the phone!
Thanks!
Works flawlessly with the Nexus 4 on the Three network (DC-HSDPA+). Received 8Mb/s d/l vs 1.2 Mb/s up. Very happy.
Hm..
Ive got a Desire HD running a port of CM10
Macbook Pro with Lion (and i doubt this is causing problems, but i have a linux partition that i installed a tonne of wireless drivers on to get it to work XD )
Anyhow, when my phone is plugged in, nothing pops up in settings or anything, i installed the Rel1 package and installed it a second time as it wasn't working. It still isn't working though :L
Also, i have the interface, 'Android Phone' alongside bluetooth, wifi etc.. but it doesn't have a data transfer icon, but a telephone icon?
Do you think this is due to port (CM10), my OS X version, or somehow connected to Linux (im not really sure how it could be, but I'm just putting it as I did have to spend a long time setting up wireless on it, and may have somehow messed up something on mac)
Thanks for the words of encouragement, everyone! I'm glad to hear that this is useful to people.

Good to hear it works for you! I'm thinking that for this I'll take a similar policy to what I did in the days of the unrevoked project; if you found this software useful, you might want to consider donating to an organization that's been fighting for years to make it possible to do this kind of work: the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Can you try HoRNDIS-n1-test.pkg? I think that this is a similar issue to what I saw on a CM9 n1; that should fix things up for you. If that doesn't, can you file a bug in the issue tracker so I can help figure out what's going on here?
Thanks!
what is the advantage of this over PDANET?
Doesn't PDANET install actual software?
From running this, it is a kernel extension so it just works.... no need to really do any settings...

Additionally, it doesn't require an 'emulation' IP stack on the phone side, so performance and compatibility may end up slightly better.
anyone know of a free sms agent?
New version should support CyanogenMod phones better (if it wasn't detecting your phone, try again), and properly complain on 32-bit kernel systems; I think this is stable enough to no longer be [BETA] (Mods, feel free to remove the [BETA] from the subject). Thanks for all the kind words from everyone.

When downloading a file over 30MB my download booster will turn on for a split second then turn off, the file will then download via wifi only. Any ideas why?

I mean are you for real? wifi speed + 4G data speeds giving you ultra fast downloads to get 1gb to 2gb games on the playstore is a god send EVEN if you did have great internet speed
i just saw a guy download a 2gb 'grand theftu auto SA ' game on youtube USING both wifi and the speed booster and in less then a few minutes he had already over 700mbs downloaded, now thats great for a mobile device

i've been using a iphone for years and trying to learn android and even as a noob i know why (at least i think i know i do lol) its happening
you have "smart network switch' on (and it even TELLS YOU what it does) it will switch between wifi and data to give you a nice stable internet connection
if you turn on 'download booster' it will help in files that are 30mb and large, and it states it recommends on turning off 'download via wifi only' (which i think the option comes up when you download stuff off playstore) to me 30mb is not necessary for the booster thats a waste of data since mobile data is expensive
i'd use it if the app/game is over 1g/2gb since it'll shorten wait times
IT never DIDNT work...
You ruined approx 512 mb of data for this test ??

Android 5.1 finally

How would I know if it's a soak test or not? I can't find anything pertaining to that anywhere. I don't mind giving feedback if I am participating. How would I know if they chose me for soak test? I read about it but I could never figure out how to sign up for the last one so I just moved on with life. Then out of the blue I'm waxing floors and I thought it was a message. Are they rolling it out?

You would know if you signed up for the soak.
The idea is to test the software and if all is well, its the version sent to everyone else. The changes you are looking for would require another recompile and additional testing.
Its possible they are rolling it out en masse as well. It won't be the first time Moto started a soak and they just decided to release it to the public anyway at the same time.
With as much publicity as Moto is giving it, I'd say they already made up their mind and are passing the soak to rollout for everyone.
I would discourage root users from trying this. King root method doesn't work. I haven't been home to test mofo, but the ROM would be kit kat.
I've browsed facebook, used chrome and Firefox, watched Netflix, charged it, made 4 phone calls, sent a few text messages with hangouts, data works, pof app works, my games ask seem to function. I also see slightly better battery life. The drain isn't as noticeable. It's both slower and faster than kit kat. Bluetooth functions. Google maps works great. Had to drive for work. Google play music works great with beats headphones, the beats driver works fantastically.
So far so good. Unless there's some long-term issue I'm not seeing within the hour and a half of use, I see no reason not to upgrade if you don't root. I don't care about root if the phone is write protected.
Hope you all get it!

you would most likely lose root. also keep in mind you would most likely not be able to downgrade to 4.4.4, but i honestly don't know if that's true. this option hasn't been tested yet. there was a post by someone previously that hinted that they were able to flash a system image via mofo and it worked.

[APP][ROOT] Scheduler for Whatsapp v2.1

ROOT PERMISSION NEEDED, 4.1 or above
Hello everyone, some days back I was searching an app to program some whatsapp messages, and I found 1 or 2 apps, but are so hard to use and takes so much time so, I made this app thinking that to create a new messages not takes a lot of time.
The app is very easy to use, you only need to pick your contact, write the message and select when you want to send the message. Take care, because the app is a BETA version for now, but I need some feedback on other phones, obviusly, you need ROOT PERMISSIONS.

Yes mate, for now is only compatible from 5.0 and above, but when it works okey in 5.0 I will make it compatible with below versions, anyway thanks for try the app
Edit: The app works okey from 4.0 and above I think, but not works always. The problem is that this app needs to reconect from internet to force whatsapp to update the messages and I can only do that from 5.0 (using internet data, not wifi).
Version 1.21, compatibility from Jelly Bean
In this new version must work from android 4.1, but take care, if at the moment to send the message you are not connected to wifi, the message will be delayed. I will fix this problem as soon as possible.
Regards!

case 1: i have data enabled and i connect to wifi without disabling data.
case 2: i have data connection disabled and i am connected to wifi only.
case 3: i haven't subscribed to a data plan, only wifi is available & connected to.
will this app work in such scenarios? or, is a running data connectivity a must? please clarify.
and, please make this facility available for sending msgs to groups also. thank you.

Thanks for this questions are very interesting.
I gonna explain the conditions, are very easy:
If you are connected to WIFI, the app turn off the wifi and reconect again in 5 seconds.
If the WIFI is off then turn off data and reconect in 5 seconds.
I think with this two conditions I maneged the comun scenarios.
I will work to add group messages.
You have any other idea to add to app?
Thanks!
Version 2.0
Hi, I'm here again, I uploaded a new version to google play solving the most popular error.
- Now if you have not the sqlite3 file, the app will automatically add it to your xbin folder.
- New design.
- Solved problem with some country phone number.
- Now you can modify manually the phone number.
If you see any error contact with me please.
Thanks!

I need some testers, some people is reporting that not works :S, but I don't know why...
New version
I found the main error with the sqlite3 file, so now must be working on all rooted phones, I hope.
Is very important to download the new version if before was not working.
Thanks.
UI interface looks nice.. Got FC on selecting contact, so haven't really got to test actual scheduled message. Running CM13 on LG G3.. Good luck with your app
