2 versions? - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

Look at the lastest pic. The black one looks a little thicker. Also different material. Honestly I like the black one better. Has some moto x influence.

I would think three versions though. Unless that black one has a case around it which would be strange for a press shot. Because this and this show the black one with a kevlar finish all around the back rather than the edge.
I would hope that the red one would come with that black one's finish though because that chain-like finish looks sick.

OMG, want this phone in Europe!

Yeah, I'm thinking the chain link looking one is the maxx version. And the Kevlar one is the normal turbo. Just a guess. I don't think there's going to be a mini though.

Actually that would make sense. Everyone is saying that there would be no Maxx, but then the finishes on the back don't really make much sense. However I don't like the plastic/MGF frame around the Kevlar finish so I hope it's just a case in the end, or atleast the non-Maxx edition. The finish looks great, but it should go all the way around.

test

While that odd looking "third" version of the phone raises questions, i highly doubt there will be a "Maxx" version of this phone...
What size battery are they going to put in it? The turbo already has a 3900...
That, and we would have already heard about it...it would have passed through the FCC...the training materials would be out there...

Yeah I'm not really sure how to look at it. It'd be an interesting option if it was though haha. Unless they offer it in three finishes. Wasn't last year's or the year before offered in three colors? Red, white. and black I think.

I'm just curious on what the red one will look like. The Droid Maxx is in a deep dark red, whereas the photos of the Droid Turbo look like a bright-vibrant red (looks much better to me). But to be honest, I will probably get whatever is in stock. If I have the choice....I'm thinking red might be my preference.

i don't think there will be 2 versions, and i don't think xplay will be the pure edition of the turbo, 5.2inch screen is not big enough for a xplay size phone

The one thing I'm most interested in is how the seemingly different "finishes" feel to the touch...
The Droid Ultra was pretty slippery to the touch...while the Droid Maxx had a very soft, grippy texture to its back...
I'm loving the red color for the Turbo...hoping it doesn't have the same finish as the Ultra did..

I'm intrested in the textures of the finishes as well. The first leaked pictures had red and black models looking the same with a sort of woven, but solid back with the "metalized glass" or something.
The newest leaked photo appears to show the same type of back on the red model, but the black one almost appears to have a woven cloth type material on the back. I think I like the look of the black one as far as textures go, but I'll have to see the various options and how they feel first. I had soft touch on my Droid X and loved it. The kevlar/carbon fiber back on my Razr Maxx was nice, had air bubbles under it sometimes and it didn't feel solid or flat all the time.
I have woven black on the back of my Moto X 2013 and like it, but would prefer something more like soft touch if possible.

Yeah...its weird. I guess we will find out on the 28th...
The original leak, that showed the black back plate looks EXACTLY like the material on the current Droid Maxx...which is AWESOME...soft to the touch..nice and grippy..but still has the woven Kevlar...
Later leaks worried me slightly as they look more like the woven back of the Droid Ultra which is a harder, more glossy material...and not even close to as nice to hold...
The LATEST leak is all over the place...the red looks more like the Droid Maxx soft material...bit the black literally looks like it is made out of some sort of cloth which is bizarre

Is it at all possible that there is another model out there? The reason I ask is, both the front facing and red models in the picture are not upright. Any diagonal phone would be slightly shorter than the same phone upright. However, the chainlink finished one is upright and in the picture, it's the same height as the front facing one. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but there could be a smaller version of it in the coming future after release date right? I know that the Razr HD and Razr M didn't release at the same time either.
Then again it could just be like that for display purposes.

Maybe they are going to have a Droid Turbo and a Turbo Maxx.

agreed

Absolutely my concern too. It's darn near my ONLY concern, other than overall size... I've got to pocket this and the new Moto X without that stupid security thing in the verizon stores attached to it. If it's not simply "too big" for me, and the back is "grippy" enough that in combination it feels easy enough to hold and use, this is my next phone.

So Droid Life tweeted a rumored pricing for it. I guess they have a source. So I'm assuming this means one version of the phone, but with three different finishes on the same model?

Comparison video: Nexus 4 vs One X

Here's a video I made last night pitting my new Nexus 4 up against my HTC One X in a variety of real world scenarios.
The One X is running the CM10 nightly from 20121109.
Despite what it looks like in the video, the One X is so fast that most people (including me) would not ask for more. Also, the screen and camera are far better.
At about the 1 minute mark, I demonstrate how the colours and contrast diminish when you look at the Nexus 4 screen at an angle.
Love my N4, but I love the One X as well. Both are brilliant phones.
I just don't like the look and feel of the one x. Plastic and annoying design that to me looks ugly. I told my friend to get the one x a while back and then changed my mind and told him to get the s3 but it was too late and he got the one x and I was like DAM thats an ugly phone lol

I realize this is entirely a matter of personal taste, but to me the One X (especially the new black, softtouch One X+) has a much more high quality feel than the Nexus 4. The One X+ also feels better in my hand, because it has a more contoured back.
The Nexus 4 certainly is a nice phone. But the glass back comes across to me as more glitzy, than high quality.
You can also see in the video how much more useable vertical screen place the One X has, due to the capacitive buttons. It really does seem like a huge waste of space, to me, to have the home and back buttons on the screen.
Great vid,
All the moaning of a yellow screen, and the ONE X actually has more of a yellow tint.
And the ONE X screen is beautiful, so thanks for clearing up all my worries.
Screens do look very similar to me on this video
I would have liked to see a notification light, game loading and video watching comparison though aswell.
Sent from my HTC ONE X using Tapatalk 2
Both are simular. Thanks for the video. I actually have the sensation and it's pretty fast as well though it does have its moments.
I'd still get the Nexus as its supported from AOSP. Where as 2 years down the line, we'd still have a lot of development going on. Unlike HTC phones after a year or two, it seems like it dies down

And just to demonstrate how much opinions differ, I think my N4 feels better in hand than my One X.
Personally, I think the One X looks beautiful. The contrast of the white curved around the black glass is just a design that's unmatched by any other phone. The One X+ in black looks awesome to my eyes as well.
I think materials of the N4 feel better. But the shape of the One X feels better. To hold in the hand, even though there is only 1mm in it in any direction, the One X feels far smaller. HTC really have the industrial design down pat.
Screens are very similar front on, but the viewing angles of the One X's screen are much better, which I tried to demonstrate in my video.
I hadn't thought of notification lights. The N4's is much softer but has the advantage of being RGB.
Game loading is similar to loading any of the other apps, the N4 is quite a bit faster.
I changed from the One X to the N4 because HTCDev doesn't give you S-OFF which isn't acceptable to me. Also, not being a Nexus means that AOSP-based ROMs have little issues such as bad wifi and worse battery life.

So. Black or white?

Hey guys,
Not trolling here, as I'm betting this topic has been beaten to death 6 pages down the forum, but it still puzzles me greatly.
Black or white?
To my eye, black is more sleek and serious, white (silver) is more fancy. How are your experiences in terms of build quality of both? Is it true that black smudges with fingerprints easily, and how view-able are they? Scratch/chip wise, how do both phones behave?
Any honest opinion, I would kill for. Thanks for your time lads.
Think of it like a car. White cars you have a tough time see scratches, but you can tell when it's dirty quicker. Black is the opposite.
i started off determined i wanted black, as I've been using a white SGS3 and I hate the white look in general, but I went to the store to see what it was like in person and it was nothing like I imagined. The black is very matte and not a deep black like i expected. The white (actually silver) on the other hand looks much better in person IMHO.
All in all, you really need to see the product yourself to decide. My Best Buy had both on display for me to check out. As someone who enjoyed the iphone 5 in black, the htc one's black model does not resemble it much at all and ends up looking a little bit cheaper to me. I'm going to end up getting the silver model.
silver color is good...
the metal underneath both finishes is silver. if you nick the black finish you will see silver. if you nick the silver finish, you will see more silver. which situation is more noticeable?
personally i believe a) if you could somehow keep your phone from getting dinged, black looks cool (even if it is more of a charcoal gray and not exactly black) and b) putting a great-looking and -feeling phone in a case is a waste of good design unless you expect to drop your phone at some point and/or care about resale value. (and besides if you have a case on your phone, the case obscures much of the phone's original finish anyway.)
because i am a) pretty sure my phone will experience a little wear and tear and yet b) i would prefer to use it without a case, i am guessing silver will make me happier in the long run even if black seems slightly more appealing now. and i mean *slightly* : honestly , both look good.
oh and it's not clear if the developer edition will ever come in black. HTC is saying no for now. not sure what to expect later on though.
black one gonna give lots of residual + finger prints in future usage. U will notice it really much, but if you going to get the case doesn't matter, silver looks more stylish and appealing high end device in your hand.
I have the black One and I am very happy about it. Had it 10 days now and only one tiny noticeable scratch at the top edge. Very very small one and easily covered by a black marker.
I have to day, I don't regret getting the black at all, it's so cool and stylish IMHO. It does attract more fingerprints but wipe it wit.your cloth easily clean it, I was a bit worried but not anymore since I.actually got the phone.
Of course, I don't abuse my phone, but don't avoid using it, it's always naked in my.pocket alone.
Oh, the back is quite durable I dropped it from knee high and.it landed on the back on wood floor, not a single mark.
Silver, ive had black phones all my life, its time for a change
i have a black car too..
I went for Silver too, never been a big fan of black phones. Or white ones, for that matter! really like the brown Galaxy S3 my girlfriend uses, and my old Desire HD had a bit do a brownish tint to it. Only had my silver One for a couple of hours so far, but it's stunning - very happy with it and it frames the display nicely. one day when we have true edge-to-edge displays then black would look amazing, but until then I think I'd prefer a silver, grey or brown.
flip a coin, heads white, tails black... but honestly if you flip the coin you will realize what color you want while the coin is spinning in mid air.

What back are you choosing!

I'm interested in the leather, not so much the wood (nothing against it, just not my thing). The overall concern I have is around longevity of the leather and if it really matters, assuming I put a case on it... Lets take a vote!
I am rather interested in more than one back covers - Leather, Wood and one is that bright cyan/blue color shown on the Moto website.
But I am confused about the colour of the phone. Wooden and cyan one will look good with silver bezel which is available on the white phone but I prefer black one so that the ugly fake speaker bars hide away. My primary confusion is still about the base phone colour.

Speaker bars aren't "fake" lol. The top one is an earpiece and the bottom is a speakerphone. All reviews indicating audio output volume and quality are superb.
Do you see the 2014 colors listed somewhere?
My 2013 Moto X was way louder and cleaner than HTC One M7. I still have my Moto X because it has the best and loudest speakerphones. It may not be stereo but it does the job very well. 2013 Moto X had best reception, great battery life and awesome speaker. I can't wait for 2014 Moto X as I'm sure it will be just as complete of a package like Moto X 2013 but better, IMHO of course
Depends on how much, if it's $25 extra then I might get ebony again, or bamboo. If it's $50 then forget it, I'll get ToastMade woodback instead. That's taking into the account of the 32gb storage in the motomaker version I guess.
Aren't these backs removable? So, if you were to order one with leather and later decide you wanted a wood one, you would be able to change it yourself?
I'm surprised to see people not concerned about durability on the leather given even the pics in reviews already are scratched, etc.
You can change them yourself but you need to take the phone apart, lol. It isnt like on the moto g

Could you please shed some more light on how the back covers are replaced in the new Moto X? I though its routine open and replace kind of job!
They cannot be easily replace
I could be wrong, but how hard could it possibly be? Are they individually glued on at the factory? I would think they would just snap on for the sake of expediency...

I'm Brazilian and I just got mine in last friday. I'm not an expert on teardown devices like this, but it seems the back is somehow glued on the metal frame. I don't think it is easily replaceable (I would wait for an ifixit.com teardown).
If not easily replaceable then its big let down. I was thinking to get atleast three types of back covers but...
Looks like Motorola is not interested in my money.

This is going to be hard to decide colors. At least there is a delivery date 9-29, so I'm hoping they have the phones out like they did with the 2013 moto x at best buy so I can compare. I was going to wait a bit longer til the nexus announcement but man the moto maker is fun to play with

Thanks for the pic. That's the color leather I am leaning to (natural), and from the look of the trim it appears that one would have the black front. I would match that with the metallic olive, and my tough decision is either a white or black front.

The crimson from the product page is here. http://www.motorola.com/us/consumer...ses-for-Moto-X-by-CaseMate/hula-cases-x1.html
but i like the one from the moto x motomaker color.. it's more of a crimson. The link I posted is very orange like red..pinkish. I hope it's the darker red that matches the red trim color I chose...

I considered the Storm Trooper look however my first Nexus 5 was the white edition and I hated it, ended up trading it for a black one.

White vs. Black

Hey guys, I am struggling to decide on which color to import. I have traditionally always had black phones, but the white body in screenshots at least looks really good.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages to going white vs. black with the Z3c?
I've always had black phones too. I bought a used white moto x a couple months back. I love it more and more every day. I definitely getting the white z3c. The black one just looks boring.
I went for the white one. Have had several black phones and wanted a change. Would have done the red / orange model but the black bezel looks tacky to me.
I did white too. Should shoe fewer fingerprints than black.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I went for Black - looks more professional. I like keeping my phones in cases anyway though
I went for black, never had a white phone, although I do have a niggling feeling perhaps I should have tried white, it does look good.
I ordered the white one. I changed it to the red one awhile later. I saw a video of the black one and it looks really classy to me so I changed my order to black
I originally wanted the mandarin red, then saw some videos of the mint green and thought that would be really cool, but unfortunately, the green won't be available unlocked for some time yet. After hearing more testimonials about the red and how brilliant it was, I'm convinced it's the right choice. Basically, I wanted anything other than black and white because as safe, classy, and sleek as those choices are, I find them to be rather bland. If I had to choose though, I'd go with white, only because most of my devices have always been black and I wanted something different.
I had a Z1c in black for quite sometimes and bought my brother the Z1c in white and gotta say the white does looks really good. But currently can not really say much about the z3c as it is not available yet in Australia. The best way would have to go and look for yourself which one would suit your taste better. But i would say the white looks good on picture. The only that might be a concern that is the seal around the screen is white as well, just do not know would it be stain over time

TBH I don't get your question at all, since it's purely opinion based.
If there would be a technical difference based on the color, most people would get the color that had the technical upper hand.
You don't ask your friends either if you should have a blonde/brunette girlfriend/boyfriend, since it's all just based on taste.
You are absolutely right but you have to understand that we are all really excited about this phone and we just discuss all kinds of bul**** about it until the delivery agent rings the doorbell and leaves the white box in our hands...

I prefer black because I don't like how the sensor cutout, speaker, and camera lens standout on white.
If I could get black front and white back like my Dev moto x, that would be awesome. I guess I can still do that with a white skin for the back.

Not necessarily. White will show less fingerprints, but might discolor over time. There are a few objective traits each color exhibit, and since I feel torn between the two aesthetically, I wanted to discuss some objective reasons one color might benefit over the other.

it won`t.
At least it didn`t on my white Z.
I think another disadvantage of a white one would be the white front panel making the display appear darker, I think in sunny weather the white could actually "blind" you a little, making the screen a tad more difficult to read.
I've occasionally had overheating problems with sunlight coming in through a car window. White might be helpful.
