What are the little white dots on the edge of the Note 4? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed 8 white or translucent squares on the top and bottom on both the back and the front of the chamfered edge of the Note 4?
Does anybody know what these are, I'm very curious!

Hi,
They are gaps in the aluminium for the antenna to get a signal through.
I hope this answers your question
Sam

Thanks for that, I just realised now that we are not supposed to ask questions here in this forum.
I thought general meant 'anything' but clearly not.

Nope. Here's where the antennas are located. There's plenty of signal access through the front and back of the phone; and those puny dimples wouldn't really help. What you described is typically used on metal-backed phones (EG: iP6, HTC One M7) and are a lot bigger.
I'm wondering what they're for too. If I had to guess I'd say to allow for expansion/contraction from temperature or to allow some flex either for real-world bending or to facilitate production and assembly.

Ha. I didn't even notice till you pointed this out. I think it looks kinda neat myself.

Maybe it's something to do with the VR capabilities.. maybe?

Also if you look right up close on the black part of frame there are slightly raised bumps in line with the white dots, curious, aesthetics or something else?

It looks better than the back of iphone 6

that is to cover that the cut goes all through! some sort of sticker which is then also coated...
reason for these cuts could be either manufacturing or radio performance!

I'm also thinking it might simply be structural.

Battery cover clicks, cracks, pisses me off

Hi guys,
I'm having this problem and I would like to know if it's happening to someone else. There are certain parts of the battery cover that will click and crack when pressed. They're basically the phone's "temples" (the top part of the phone's sides) and the area around the headphone jack, as shown on this pic:

It's pretty irritating, since that's basically the area I use to grab the phone and get it out of its case. Do you get it too?
I don't have this problem. But I expect people will get the same problem if they open the battery cover too many times. You can try calling HTC to see if you can buy a battery cover from them.
mine does it. Didn't at first, now it does. No big deal.
Thanks for your replies guys, glad to know that at least one more person has this problem too
Rvinny, have you ever dropped your phone? I have, and fear both things might be related.
I've dropped it like four times now and mine doesn't creak. I am probably the pickiest person in the world too, but I have to say... the build quality on this phone is pretty solid... its just too bad they used the worst speakers ive ever heard in a mobile phone before. Bet the speakers on the desire will be good though ... bastards...
mine clicks in the same spots.
i've been thinking about getting a replacement battery cover.
easy fix - put a miniscule amount of electrical tape right under each of the corner tabs on the battery cover to use as a padding/buffer. result - solid feeling phone, no more flex.

Dust between screen and sides

Any ideas on how to protect the space between the screen and front edge of this awesome phone?
The gel case from sprint doesn't cover this gap, and there doesn't seem to be many cases out yet to fit the NS4g.
Is this even something to be concerned with?

ive never had an issues with sides usually can just blow and what ever if anything gets in between usually comes out.
And the screen is fused to the touch glass with adhesive no dust is getting between screen so no worries

The dust gets in the exact same place you referenced with me too, and I always get panicky, but I find that if I try to remove it myself, it just ends up worse somehow. They just seem to dissapear after some time in my pocket though. I'll check a few hours later, and bam, the dust isn't there anymore.

As one of the XDA reviewers and long time users of both STRATA and FRAME, I'm drooling over this
The Verge just did a write up as well: http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/6/5277128/metawatch-meta-premium-smartwatch-brand
Coincidentally, Pebble going to introduce Pebble Steel which is the same as regular one but with a metal frame/bracelet, but it's nowhere near as elegant as this one. Sorry, but I think it was brilliant how they incorporated 4 corner buttons as part of the bracelet buckle (obviously Frank Nuovo design). Also, fantastic move to switch to epaper display.
Can't wait to test it out!!!
yeah really like the new steel pebble, the matte black with leather strap looks really nice
still, wish HOT Watch would be getting here sooner, really want to try the private calling function, if it's not to my liking i'm interested in something else
Btw, I haven't seen anybody confirm those hinges are secured by 4 corner buttons. I'm just assuming they are keeping functionality unchanged since the original MW has 6 buttons and going down to 2 would be too much of a change. I'm also curious if it's going to be waterproof like FRAME and if they're going to use a similar charging clip or something else, maybe magnetically attached one? As soon as I find out more details, hopefully after CES, I will post it in here.
I am more excited if there are much faster development on the Android software front!
I like the new hardware of course but at the moment pebble steel wins overall due to the solid development work on both official and unofficial software.
Still praying hard for my metawatch frame to be revived with this new announcement!

[Q] N4 rear flash ring?

Hi there!
i recently bought an N4 and i love it but i was wondering why my rear flash is like the way it is (see pictures). I bought it completely new, or supposedly new, on ebay for around $200... i actually couldnt believe the price haha
any comments as to how to replace it? due to the flash lens/ring it allowed dust in the rear camera which is so annoying.
thanks!
I dont know, but my flash looks completely different. You sure that is a nexus 4 and not some fake stuff?

haha yeah it works perfectly fine though
another thing i noticed was this... i dont know if it's normal either
there's vertical lines when the screen is off and noticeable when caught in the light at certain angles........
i'm starting to think this was a broken phone but refurbished after
the rear flash ring is normal but the bars on the screen is a new one, i have never seen that, its usually a clear screen and you can see the dots from the digitizer from different angles.
maybe the screen has been replaced?

Wow, I've never seen such vertical lines on my n4 before. That is really strange, mate.
Although there are horizontal lines/patterns on the screen. They are conduction medium for the touch screen, but no..never seen such vertical ones...

How's the rear camera housing holding up to scratches/chips?

I'm looking to purchase a OnePlus 5. And in my research I've discovered that its pretty common knowledge that all OnePlus 5's come with a "scratch" in the top center of the camera housing and that this is meant for the NFC Antenna. However, some have commented about the black paint on their OnePlus 5's rear camera housing chipping/scratching easily in other areas. Some even mentioned that their camera housing was severely scratched up, right out of the box.
Take this instance, for example:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/camera-housing-scratched.557376/

I plan on using a case, either way. But I am curious to get a better idea from current OnePlus 5 owners to see how many people have additional paint chipping issues.
1. He needs a manicure
2. Use a case
3. Find a new job that doesnt involve using your phone as a sanding block.
If you go bare back its bound to get raw.

Yeah, that dude's hands are pretty messed up.
I've always been a case/screen protector person. My concern is that people in the above linked thread and a couple other threads on the OnePlus forums are reporting their camera housing gettings chipped up, even with a case. It seems that the black coating on the camera housing is poorly applied and is extremely easy to damage.
I simply created this poll to get an idea of the average percentage of OP5 owners on this thread that have experienced this issue, in relation to the total number of votes received.
The poll is getting votes but no comments, so I'm bumping this thread to keep it near the top to accrue more data.
Mine has this problem out of the box and it's getting worse. 6gb / 64gb version. I bought it at launch
The edge of the rear camera paint has scratched off and it's only been on a soft wooden table
Mine has been in a case since day one so zero scratches
