As one of the XDA reviewers and long time users of both STRATA and FRAME, I'm drooling over this
The Verge just did a write up as well: http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/6/5277128/metawatch-meta-premium-smartwatch-brand
Coincidentally, Pebble going to introduce Pebble Steel which is the same as regular one but with a metal frame/bracelet, but it's nowhere near as elegant as this one. Sorry, but I think it was brilliant how they incorporated 4 corner buttons as part of the bracelet buckle (obviously Frank Nuovo design). Also, fantastic move to switch to epaper display.
Can't wait to test it out!!!

yeah really like the new steel pebble, the matte black with leather strap looks really nice
still, wish HOT Watch would be getting here sooner, really want to try the private calling function, if it's not to my liking i'm interested in something else

Btw, I haven't seen anybody confirm those hinges are secured by 4 corner buttons. I'm just assuming they are keeping functionality unchanged since the original MW has 6 buttons and going down to 2 would be too much of a change. I'm also curious if it's going to be waterproof like FRAME and if they're going to use a similar charging clip or something else, maybe magnetically attached one? As soon as I find out more details, hopefully after CES, I will post it in here.

I am more excited if there are much faster development on the Android software front!
I like the new hardware of course but at the moment pebble steel wins overall due to the solid development work on both official and unofficial software.
Still praying hard for my metawatch frame to be revived with this new announcement!

Body actually thinner than 11mm?

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if the device body is actually even thinner than 11mm. Why? Because the size is usually measured by the thickest part of the device, which in this case is the popping out camera. Think I already mentioned that somewhere...or maybe in another forum, never mind.
You can clearly see on the "Specification" part at the HTC website (picture of side of device) that the camera is the popping out. Just zoom in the picture.
What I just saw and what strenghtens my thought: The website includes the camera in the 11mm! So the "body" could be 10mm or even less.
Here is a zoomed in picture of what I mean. It's from HTC's website, I just added the red line. What do you think?
I'm also wondering why nobody actualy measured the size in any of those previews...

As mentioned somewhere else......it´s not so much the size, that matters....it´s the performance......
It's a lean mean ppc machine

(Yeah, saw that ^^)
Yeah, with emphasis on "so much" ^^
If that device was 18mm thick nobody would've be that much interested. Even with 14mm it would still be unattractive because of its total size.
And even now, people are wondering if the device isn't too big for them. Making it even thinner could resolve those manners.
And maybe there are more people like me who try to imagine what it could feel like to hold that device in the hand, maybe also with building a paper model of it ^^ So 1-2mm thinner device feels a lot more comfortable =)
AND almost every preview compares the thickness, so it IS somehow important. ^^
Agree with Kabakara,
I already built a model from paper
gotta love the thin slim look... I wouldn't have gone HD2 if it was 14mm or thicker..

Evo with woodgrain battery cover

So, I was bored tonight, and I had some 3M Di-Noc vinyl laying around. Here's what I did:

It's totally removable (doesn't leave residue behind), but I think it came out pretty well. The cutouts for the speaker and flash aren't nearly as noticeable in real life.
That's pretty good.

it looks really good, personally I would have changed the light and speaker holes and not cut out the HTC
Freaking Awesome! I would defiantly get that case for my phone.... love it dude. Give info if u ever plan on actually selling or wanting sum1 to try it out... let me know!

wow this looks amazing! you should sell these, or at least do a tutorial! I'd love to do this to my Evo.
I like the look, but not as much as the carbon fiber. Also, if you have some left over, I think it'd look a lot better without the blocky holes cut out.
Perhaps follow my diy, if you'd like.

I don't like the poked out speaker hole look, but with I should've done the LEDs like you did yours (and like I did my original one).
This is the first one I did (white carbon fiber) a while back:
http://androidforums.com/accessories-evo-4g/92653-evo-white-carbon-fiber-back-pics.html
On ^ that one, I didn't bother doing the speaker holes because I didn't like the look of the white, and I took it off right after taking those pics.
I also have a lighter woodgrain one that I'm going to try to see what it looks like. The samples I'm using were all free, and I should be getting some more in the mail soon.

*HEY DEV'S - What sort of potential does this have for Apps? I mean this could be amazing for stuff like Layar and other Augmented Reality Apps, plus so much more*

All that is really needed for this mod is
A power drill (yea scary)
A Drill Bit (started with 9/64 to punch through then 5/32 to make it larger until the camera couldnt see it.
A Steady Hand
A Good Eye (or Measure..but I didn't)
An HTC Evo Car Dock. (Mine is the Official HTC Car Dock for Evo 4G)
It's pretty straight forward.
Drill a hole so that the camera can see thru the plastic arm that connects to the top of the Device Securing it in place.
*NOTE* THE CAMERA IS NOT CENTERED WITH THE PEICE YOU DRILL THROUGH** LOOK BEFORE YOU DRILL. IT NEEDS TO BE FAIRLY PRECISE
Be Careful not to apply to much pressure...it could snap the piece off...not sure...
Snap in your Evo and Go Film!
I have seen a few similar things out there but none that were exactly like this....

i need to make one of those it be perfect for when i go racing.
Nice mod op! I have a similar setup in my car, but with Otterbox holsters.
Question, what are you using to record video? Are you saving it to the phone directly? Or having it sent elsewhere (Qik, uStream, etc)
I was just using the Stock Camera App.
Could probably use other apps to stream it elsewhere if you know you will have a strong data connection.

Dust under back of frosted glass - Yet another QC error.

After being happy for a few days with my second Z5 (First one had backlight uneveness, changed out next day), I stumbled upon yet another QC error by Sony. This time around there is dust stuck beneath the frosted glass. Now you might say "Oh it's just a scratch!" I looked at it from multiple angles, under bright light and also with an electronic microscope. There are no indentations to the surface, which leaves me just as baffled as most of you on how this happened . This is a REV4 model, everything else works wonderfully though, barely any camera fringing and no uneven backlight, haven't tested water proofness yet, but that wasn't important to me. Needless to say I'll be exchanging it tomorrow because the shops that have it in stock have closed for the night.
So just a warning on another thing to look out after buying your new Xperia Z5!
Why do you do this to us Sony, we only want your products :crying:.
PS: Here's the unresized images if you want to peep: Image 1, Image 2.
You bought it that way for sure. This ''thing'' can not go almost to the middle of the phone by itself.Just one more thing that we need to look closer before buying. And Sony is not doing this intentionally, bro. ( : Just bad luck.
No disrespect intended but the absolute last thing I am worried about is a piece of dust under the back glass. In my opinion, trivial.
return it. if you're spending $400+ usd on a phone it should be pretty darn near perfect.

See I fully agree it is trivial. But the fact that is there will drive me crazy. Considering cheaper phone manufacturers can deliver better QC, I expect cream of the crop from Sony. Call me picky or pedantic, but for a price of the phone there is no excuse.

Waterproof case

Has anyone been able to find a Waterproof case for the Tab S7? I have been searching everywhere and cant find one. I really dont want to put the whole thing in a waterproof "bag" type case but i will if I have to. I would think they would have them out by now.
Thanks,
Well I think water proof bag might be the only choice for devices like this. Model-specific water-proof case for phones is kind of niche, and even more so for tablets, let alone an Android tablet... Bag should work fine for occasional use just not as convenient or elegant

Never count on a device or case to be waterproof unless designed for diving. Even then you need to keep an eye on it.
Yeah I knew it would be slim pickings. It would never be submerged and its mostly for heavy rain/dust (Mounting in a Polaris RZR) for navigation and music.
I was hoping there would be one for a flagship device.
We've got a heat sealer at work so I just heat sealed some polypro bags to the right size to try out this weekend. HOpefully someone comes out with one but I have what seems to be a decent bump case on it for now.
