The next version of Android version is "5.0 Lollipop". This is the last hope for our S3 GT-I9300. We can't say anything about it now. BTW, Samsung has shortlisted some SAMSUNG devices that are going to get the taste of the new Lollipop . Fortunately, our S3 is shortlisted

Hi!
Do you have a link to see that devices list?
Thanks!
Update: That list is 2 years old in sammobile website... I think that they was referring to android Kitkat instead Lollipop.

Let's see first ROM releases for similar devices to S3.

Dude , we are 100% most definitely not getting an upgrade, cant stress that enough , there is alredy 500 newer device models that are covered by 18month period , samsung has no plans to waste time on 3 year old device, especialy not now when we are overtaking apple on almost every market.

I think, if would have an update, this will come from independent developers, not from sammy.
At the end, is better that way, community is open to help and continue improving those ROMs.
:good:

AOSP maybe, official Samsung not. I think in order to port a Samsung rom it a device with our chipset would have to receive it, which i highly doubt since it is quite old.

this is what I think, most likrly we will get Lollipop, if CM12(or whatever next is going to be) would officialy support s3, that would be the best and other roms most likely would follow, I hope PA wont abandon s3 too

There will be AOSP 5.0 roms for i9300 ofc, s3 was and probably is still most downloaded CM rom.
And once again, samsung stopped manufacturing s3 and dropped support for any software updates months ago. S3 i9300 is a dead device in samsungs eyes .
If you had company that sold milions and milions of devices daily and you just unveiled two of your best newest flagship devices what would you do ? Update 3 year old device or never update it and force users to move to s5/note4 that have the latest OS?
People need to stop making these threads and raise hope for those googlers out there.
You can make new thread for android 5.1 and 5.7 and android 100, but no more updates will happen.
Its time for new device.

I think we're getting DL15, not DL11 - Found this on samsung.com

Every morning I do a quick search of the interwebs to check for new ROM leaks - so I search "Epic" "Froyo" "DL11" "DL15" etc.
I just googled "Epic Froyo DL15" and THIS was the third result. It looks like an unfinished FAQ for a DL15 update.

So after more than a week, Samsung still hasn't completed this simple FAQ, no wonder it's taking them so long to get FroYo out.
I don't see why they wouldn't push out the latest version. Average person isn't going to want to flash again a week later for minor fixes.

This is really the only reason I miss the evo...atleast the coorperate devs t htc and sprint rolled out updates...they have gotten 3 updates while we are still stuck on di18
I have to be honest, I'm really reconsidering buy this thing. The evo can be modified in all kinds of ways, and it gets updates from Sprint/HTC in a much more timely fashion.
Samsung and Sprint doesn't seem to give a crap about the Epic for some reason, I'm not sure why since Sammy has sold close to 10 million of these galaxy s phones. I mean if you don't support these devices and provide timely updates, I don't see people being repeat customers of Samsung.
This has been my first non HTC smartphone, and frankly its looking to be my last, its a shame too, the hardware itself is terrific.

It's not that they don't give a crap about it. Froyo was designed on and optimized for a different processor and file system. For whatever reason, Samsung insists on using their own file system, which means they basically have to port Froyo to work with their specs. In addition, a company that only makes phones and pda's like HTC, can concentrate 100% of their resources on those products. While Samsung is making microwaves, TV's, Cameras, and whatever else, so they prioritize a little differently.

There comes a point though when they have to actually release something. Would you still be ok with the wait if they decide to start working on build DL21 and then move on to DL24, etc... and not release a damn thing in the mean while?
This is just freaking ridiculous. We were promised before the end of the year we would have Froyo and it seems that is not going to happen now.

So SamsungJohn is back and since the Vibrant has not received an update to Gingerbread I think we might get a final answer as to whether not we are getting it.

Yea sorry to burst your bubble, but im pretty sure his big announcements are going to be to announce upcoming nexus devices.
I doubt we are going to see an official Gingerbread release for the vibrant because it doesnt just pop up over night, an official release require extensive testing, the likes of which usually result in leaks or at the very least somewhat substantiated rumors. If you recall in our wait for Froyo we saw countless leaks over the span of several months.
I for one cannot wait to see the announcement for the prime and other nexus devices. Im through with carrier branded devices.

I got his attention:
SamsungJohn,
I'm not meaning to harrass you at all, but is there any way you could shed some light on whether or not the Samsung Vibrant will be getting a gingerbread update?
It has been in question for a long time now, seeing as the other SGS devices got it... we are all kind of wondering why it was left in the dust. I mean, Gingerbread improves on the CPU the Vibrant is equipped with, bringing it to its full potential more-so than Froyo.
I, and many others purchased the phone on a 2 year contract with updates in mind. Its only a year old phone, it seems kind of rude that it has already been abandoned (if that is the case) I know you don't make all the decisions there at Samsung, but If you can see it from our point of view, could you maybe speak with someone that does have control over the situation?
I love the Hardware, beautiful screen, and Samsung in general... But please John, tell them they are going to lose future customers if they drop phones after such a short amount of time. It irritates people who bought a phone with the SGS label, and already people are seeing it as inferior to device to those of the same timeframe, such as the G2... Because HTC has kept the phone updated and their customers happy, Many of them will return to HTC for their next device.
Thanks for your time, and being a part of this community.

I am not sure what SamsungJohn's official title or job is but he is certainly not in customer relations. He has never given a decent straight forward answer. I almost think I would rather have a lower quality phone that gets updates than a high quality hardware phone that never gets updated.
I love my phone but not releasing updates has made me think my next phone and tablet will not be a Samsung device. I have a 2.2.1 wifi Galaxy Tab that has never seen an update and a Vibrant with only one update. And to be fair, the update to FroYo on the Vibrant was something that it should have shipped with to begin with. To compound the issue we get no response or time frames on any updates. That is just horrible customer service.
Thanks for the hardworking of T-mobile or Samsung,
I wont get any Android products without "Nexus" in their ass
I will stay with T-mobile because it suits my current needs. 2 lines $130, unlimited un-throttled data on both; but I will never buy another phone that is not Nexus.
I almost rather be the douche with an Iphone, know it's being locked down, have less features, etc, but know I will have a working gps and support in 6 months. Being able to make calls....well they are all just holding the phone wrong anyway.

[31/12/2011] [KP4 & KP8] [Download + Video Inside] SamMobile Announces New Leak

I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this already.
SamMobile's Twitter account (here) has semi-announced that a new leak, with a build date of December 20th, is scheduled to be released publicly on January 1st, 2012.
Through a Twitter conversation between SamMobile and XplodWild, its also apparent that Team Hacksung do not currently have this leak.
This could be good news if issues such as NITZ support are fixed, but anyone who's followed the development scene with Samsung phones will know that this new leak also has the potential of breaking stuff the devs have already fixed.

Thanks for the info....
Sammobile also twittered that it's much better than KP2.
Personally I'm waiting for a decent Samsung release (leaked or official) so that we can get some custom roms based off it.
I don't mind the look of CM9, stock ICS etc but I most likely won't use it as a daily rom even when its fully stable. I prefer the Samsung based roms with their extras.
And yes I expect to get a grilling over this but its my opinion.

Galaxy S4 soon to be released, now is the time to complain about missing sources!

Hello
With the S4 soon to be released (in april) theres a lot of talk about the phone on Facebook and on Twitter. It is therefore a good time to start writing on Samsungs' Facebook- and Twitter pages about the promised sources that we never recived and how you feel about that.
Hopefully we will get a response from Samsung (it has worked before) and if not we might have saved some people the trouble we have had with the lack of Exynos 4 sources.
This might be our best chanse to get the Exynos 4 sources sense Samsung probably don't wan't alot of bad pr on social networks right before the S4 going to be released.
If you honestly think that the mention of "exynos source" on a Facebook page will mean anything at all to your average buyer, you are sadly mistaken.
In Asian countries the concept of respect holds far more weight than in most Western economies....hence spamming and name calling will achieve absolutely nothing, in fact it may well be counter productive
If you want pure Android, buy Nexus
..... good luck with that.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Lol, how did I know you would post here? We had one guy who strongly believed immaturity and spamming would suffice, and he hasn't set foot in the S3 section (or maybe even XDA?) in months now.

The avrage buyer won't care sense they don't check Samsungs pages but some of the ones that do might change there opinion about getting a Samsung, but far from all.
Isn't the reason they promised the Exynos sources in the first place that they didn't wan't people to see the bad pr they got from us on social networks?
It has been a bit quiet sense the end of 2012 when they promised the sources to be released and they have not even said why the sources has not been released and it have soon gone 4 months. So just sit quiet and wait will never get us the sources.

Shall we fast forward to punk or would you like to embrace glam rock on the way?

It has been made abundantly clear by administration and moderation that using XDA association for this campaign is not approved and not welcome, ......so go and spam Facebook and whatever, but don't keep raising the issue here

I love punk, but I also love glam rock or generally all rock/hard rock genres from the 70's and 80's.

Seems like you guys are getting what you want, to Samsung not releasing the sources. No official CyanogenMod for the S4.

I'm still of the opinion that people who want AOSP support should just buy the Nexus 4 or should flock to devices that are known to have stable CM support. Having CM on devices is a bonus. I however bought my Galaxy S2 and S3 because of the stock experience with the possibility of flashing custom roms. I think its ignorant to buy a device and expect support for something which they have not promised. The only question one needs to ask is if CM will maintain the S600 version of the phone.

It says origen board, that was the first sign that we were in for disappointment.
No CM official support for S4 is really bad. I'm sure some adventurous dev will step in and provide unofficial builds... Some people just want to watch the world burn.

I'm 17. Paying for my $3,500 insurance policy a year for my $11,000 motorcycle. All this while in school. I'm sure you can pay for a $200/$300 phone.

I don't know where Lirkaren is from, but here in Sweden a Nexus costs as much as a normal phone. Although they've dropped a bit in price, they still cost well over $600 here.
Just thought I'd clear the air about that.
And all the new phones (GS4, SXZ, HTC One) will all cost around $970-1000 unlocked.

You are a lucky 17 years old guy, congrats, but you're not a representative example for the average student, sorry (I mean.. sorry that you are wrong, you're still a very lucky guy I had to save money for couple of years when I was your age in order to buy my first used genuine Fender Strat...). Enjoy!
How much is the Nexus 4?
And it wasn't a bragging thing guys. I know I'm lucky. I'm glad I have a good work ethic so that I can get things I want and need.

why there is no Galaxy note 3 . but all Galaxy devices?

i loved the Slimroms , i got slim on my galaxy Vibrant , galaxy s3 galaxy s4 and Nexus 7 Deb.
now i am wondering why don't slim support Galaxy note 3, i got my note 3 not long ago, looking around for a custom rom, which none of them grab my attention, so i came back here n look around, saw all the galaxy devices , but not the note 3?
guys will u plz bring one here ?
thx

Because nobody on our team has the device. Doing blind builds is not something we here at Slim like to do. One can not truely develop without having a device to debug on. To rely on testers is a hassle as well, ( dont get me wrong Slim testers, we are extremely grateful for what you do for us! :good: ). If I gave you a build, I am looking for a answer now, not in a few hours. by then my dev time is gone. I know you have a life as well, so its a game of Hit -N- Miss. I'm not saying we have every single device we support, but we do have one device from each family of devices. example, Galaxy S-4 I have the Sprint varient, and Tylog has xx model, yet we still release for other carriers, d2 family, nicklovell23 has d2usc, and so on. Will one of us get the Note 3, who knows. i was pretty close at buying it 2 weeks ago, but i just bought the Nexus 5 at launch, so.

I got it to boot up since yesterday. I had to change to cm externals because it was getting stuck on the boot animation. The only bug I've been able to find so far is the camera fc. I'm trying to decipher Logcats.
@cordell12 I'm willing to put in the work if you guys want to support it. I would just need some guidance in the slim ways .
Let me know. Just in case my hangouts is [email protected]
SlimRom on Note 3 would be incredible, especially since there are still relatively few N3 ROMs available. I've had SlimKat on my Note 2 for a few weeks (thanks to gchild320) and after using it, I would be *very* disappointed if I had a phone with no SlimKat/SlimRom build available. It is unquestionably the best aosp-type experience I've had, and I have flashed a lot of ROMs.

I am trying to build KitKat for hltetmo myself, just learned how to set up the build environment, following this guide. Any pointers on where to go from here?

How is this coming along? I check the Slim site daily but it has not been added to the list of supported devices yet.
