Confirmed Google wallet tap to pay working! - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 General

I just paid for my favorite Thai food lunch with Google wallet tap to pay on this awesome device!
It's about frickin time! Softcard is living on borrowed time.

Does rooting effect Google wallet?

no, Google Wallet works out the box, no root required, just set it as your default tap & pay option

If you were able to add a discover card to GW, then I see no reason why it wouldn't work. CVS in your area may not have their terminals turned on. There are several businesses here in Portland that have the terminals, but they were never enabled. I'd go into RiteAid pharmacy and they would look at me like I was a thief when I used tap & pay! Later, they disabled the whole thing.

Just used it at CVS... Worked like a charm

Tested it at a CVS today. Bought a diet mountain dew. No problems at all. Guy didn't even give it a second glance.
edit: I'm not rooted.

hell yea! makes me feel better now that this is actually working. To say that Google wallet was available to android before apples apple pay is one thing, but to actually be able to use it and it work...."mind blown" lol

Blackberry Playbook for free.

Ok, this might not actually be a deal but well, it's kind of a deal in another way.
RIM is giving away a free Blackberry Playbook for every developer who submits a worthwhile app to the Blackberry App world. You can also submit Android apps *ported* for Playbook. Well, when they say ported, they don't mean you should use the native API. You can use the Android API but you should edit the app such that it doesn't appear to be an Android app.
eg: remove links to Android market.
More information at http://devblog.blackberry.com/2012/...playbook-tablet-offer-for-android-developers/
Please read the terms since they've excluded web launchers, web browsers and static apps which server a very simple purpose!

Yea but a lot of people would write simple apps or port open source apps just to get a Playbook. I'm also planning to submit an app but am thinking of app ideas. :/ Nothing good comes to my mind.
I'm getting one. I already ported the app. That took about 1-2 minutes. Now I have to wait for blackberry to accept my developer account. Then They have to verify my id/passport. Then I have to submit the app. Then they have to accept the app. Then they will ship it.
At least they waived the $200 dev account fee. I really don't plan on getting people to use the app. I just want a tablet. It has hdmi out, usb otg, and can run android apps. If it's free, why not?

Just learn how to make apps. Register for a Vendor account now, then make your app. The deadline is next monday. I would register now because it takes a few days for them to accept your account.
Or you can look online for open source apps and ask the dev for permission and compile it for blackberry.

I don't think that they will accept that. Look at the terms of use for the free playbook.
4. Application Criteria
4.1 Applications must provide a functionality that is considered useful to the end user, as determined by Sponsor, in its sole and absolute discretion. Applications must comply with the Guidelines and these Terms and Conditions. However, the following categories of applications are specifically excluded from eligibility for the Offer:
(a) Web launchers or shortcuts;
(b) Web browsers; and
(c) Applications that provide a simple, single function, such as playing noise or displaying a graphic.
(collectively, an “Excluded Application”).
4.2 For the purposes of the Offer, if the Sponsor feels that the number of Applications in any given category appears to be excessive, the Sponsor, in its sole and absolute discretion, reserves the right to refuse to consider any further Applications submitted in that category.

I know they are excluding simple apps but they are excluding very very simple apps that accomplish only one action. I mean, I don't see a reason why many people would port some of the simple apps in Google Android Developer portal! I mean, people are not going to submit really useful or innovative apps. Am also considering porting an open source app. Or, making an HTML5 app.
Finally, got email. I sent copy of ID. Now I have to wait 24-48 hours for it to process. So excited/anxious.
Also, this offer is now good for all apps submitted. Not just Android apps.

Unfortunately, no. They only accept WebWorks, Native, AIR, and Android apps. I am not sure how difficult it would be to port it manually.
If anybody for any reason does not want their Playbook for whatever reason if they do this, I will pay a small fee for your troubles to get it off your hands if you're interested, this would make a great present for my blackberry wielding father.

What is the method everyone is using for rooting at the moment?
This does not belong in development.
Development is for kernels, ROMS an mods
Moving this to general
On the Thrill, you can goto connectivity test in hiden menu to disable Entitlement to allow free wifi tethering without root. Can the same be done on the Galaxy S III?
If you are rooted, remove TetheringManager.apk and use a Wifi hotspot to toggle on/off. I use Widgetsoid2.x in the android market.
A word of caution. I've used WiFi Tether For Root User on my Thrill before. The problem is that it allows tethering even with the Entitlement enabled. Because of this, I got a text from AT&T warning me that tethering requires tethering plan. A few days later, I got a letter in the mail stating that tethering requires a tethering plan.
I have since disable Entitlement and deleted the Entitlement APN. Been tethering since without AT&T sending warning text and letter.
Now, does anyone know a guarantee way to tether the S III without AT&T knowing you're tethering.
Does this tethering app eat up phone plan data?

Google Wallet FIX!! -requires cwm backup!

Ok, here we go, im new to these fourms but not new to android, I resently got my samsung galexy s3 from sprint and had lots of fun with it. but, like many of you, I had noticed Google Wallet stopped working. I was in line at a vending machine and put my phone up looking all cool and, nothing. lol.
w/e here is what I did:
before I flashed cwm on my phone I made a backup. this is what saved me. the problem is Samsung pushed an update to fix it, but if u got cwm you cant install it.
1. go to your application manager, under the all tab find wallet and clear the data.
2. make a cwm backup. and restore your old backup before you flashed cwm. or you will need to find a way to return to stock.
3. if you are rooted you will need to unroot (i think you can reroot after, don't take my word for it). i used this guide www DOT epiccm.org/2012/06/sprint-sgs3-stock-restore.html
you can get odin from here: forum DOT xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1670973
replace DOT with .
i cant post urls XD
4. now boot up and update google wallet from play store (in the mean time, If you see the samsung update popup, cancel it!)
5. now go to your application manager, under the all tab find wallet and clear the data.
6. now go to settings -> system update -> update samsung software.
6. let it restart and update.
7. on boot up go and try to update wallet again from play store
8. open wallet and have fun!
(note that you are now unrooted and you don't have cwm)
Now all we need is a way to reset the flash counter!
Don't forget to hit thanks if this helped!
I wouldnt recommend clearing the wallet data like that, you need to go into the wallet app itself and clear the data that way, otherwise you can brick wallet forever.
Looks like a lot of work for a can of Coke or a hamburger from mcdonalds. When are people going to realized google wallet is a joke, just use a regular credit card for can a coke instead of trying to impress the old lady behind the counter.

Unless one could link your own credit or debit card to wallet, I found it repetitive and dumb funding wallet with my debit card. No, once you put your debit card information in, you don't have to keep re-entering it to fund wallet (not necessarily a good thing). Also, I fund GW about once a week, not every time I use it.
So I need to root flash to pre update software, get GW working, then update to current software and unroot ???? BLAH

The wallet application is in N7, just got frozen when the sign in of the device is in uk. Same for magazine app and sound search widget. If your device is rooted and have titanium backup, they can all be defrosted. No good for wallet app, though, as there's no terminal in the UK to use it; opening the app will say it's not supported in this region.

[Q] I can't use Google wallet if I am rooted?

This is my first time having an NFC device, so please bear with me. I rooted my phone the evening I received it. Now I'm trying to set up Google Wallet, and it says that my device is unsupported. In the help topic regarding this message, it mentions something about rooted devices being unsupported due to security reasons, can I still use this feature? Is it discouraged in any way?
If anybody has some insight or experience with this, I'd like to know.
I have the evo lte rooted with same unsupported device message, yes it will still work

The reason it is discouraged is because anyone (with the now-how) can brute-force access your pin if your phone is rooted. And then skip away making payments on goodies.

Plenty of you fly to Japan and China, they have been using it for years. You can try looking up PayPass mechant, such as this link: http://www.google.com/wallet/how-it-works/in-store.html
So it doesn't have to be specifically for google wallet? They work on the things like the speedpass at speedway or your creditcard where you just tap it to the machine and it gets your infO?

Plenty of you fly to Japan and China, they have been using it for years. You can try looking up PayPass mechant, such as this link: http://www.google.com/wallet/how-it-works/in-store.html

Awesome! Looking forward to trying this out in the next few weeks. Hope I remember to try it when I see it...
I tried to use this at Walgreens today. They had the translucent blue PayPass terminal. I sat there for about 30 seconds and nothing happened. I even tried to enter the app and still nothing. NFC was on, and my card is attached in Google Wallet.
I think I set up wallet, then unlocked and rooted, then had to re-set up Wallet. Am I doing something wrong? The clerk was staring at me like I was crazy, just holding my phone next to the terminal....

I had that happen at Taco Bueno. And a McDonalds. But at some McDonalds it works. I think that so few people use this system that when its broken no one complains. And its probably never even tested when they set it up.
Typically you can just tap your phone to the thing (no need to be in the app). It'll prompt you for a PIN. Then you can pay.
If it's not working you may have a poor data connection? I think it requires data to work.

Can't upload photospheres either if you're rooted

Well seems about as secure as having somebody run off with your actual wallet... So off-topic but where are the places where I can actually use Google Wallet >_>

I'd still say it's more secure than that. Anyone can swipe a card and charge it as credit. Relatively few people would know how to brute force hack google wallet on a rooted device.
Everyone.
Google wallet does not require a data connection.
If its not working , I read on the wallet website to "hold it about an inch" from the terminal. Without placing it on the terminal. Try to see if that works.

Yeah mine didn't work at the gas station the other day, though I didn't log out of Google Wallet before I flashed a rom and rooted recently so some say that it'll never work again after that because of the secure element getting locked or something like that. Hopefully that's not true.
I've flashed and reflashed a lot. All you need to do is delete the data, connect to high speed internet like WiFi, then open it up. Worked for me.
