Cant Figure This Out Using Tasker to Disconnect/Reconnect - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im using my Nexus 7 as my car radio with Timur's Rom but I have one problem. When the tablet goes into deep sleep mode, the tablet doesn't charge anymore unless I disconnect the otg y cable and reconnect it. I've been researching on how to fix this problem for a while now with no solution. I looked up all the settings in the rom and there is nothing to help with this. I also tried using tasker to simulate disconnecting and reconnecting the usb cable but couldn't figure it out. Anyone have any solutions that I could try? I have the otg y cable connected to the ignition wire and also to a constant power with a switch. The other end goes into the tablet and the other end goes into my portable hard drive. I hate having to manually removing the tablet from the dash and removing and plugging back in the usb otg cable

Is there a y-cable for separate charging and syncing?

Hello forum,
After researching it for a while, I'm curious if anybody knows if there exists a "Y-cable" to enable charging and syncing at the same time but with 2 separate cables.
I really annoys me to start and stop charging from my PC everytime I connect/disconnect the usb cable. So, what I want to do is to have the wall-charger connected charging the phone in a constant manner, but at the same time to be able to connect to the PC and experiment with whatever I want to to there! Even rebooting the PC can cause the charging to restart, so I want to eliminate this behavior.
Can the normal HTC Y-cable for charging/syncing + headphones be used for this job?
p.s. Enabling the "Do not charge while connected" Power Settings option is not what I want to do. I DO want to charge the phone AND have it connected to the PC.

I don't believe there is a cable for the purpose you want. However, you can use Activesync over bluetooht and accomplish the same thing.
This might work. It provides power for Seidio desktop cradles but in theory it should work without the cradle.

The USB cable will go from the computer to this device and the other cable will go out the other side into your phone.
I do the same thing charge my Tilt and can remove my USB cable or leave it charging if I turn my laptop off.

On note the end of the USB is a male USB port and you need to change it to a mini-male port.
This looks like the one I picked up.

fello posters,
thank you for your responses!!
The bluetooth option is more elegant, but as it is software dependant (BT stacks) I feel almost certain that I'll run into problems.
On the other hand, the Seido option seems to be the one that feels more "natural" and will do the job. I'll look more into that...
Again, thanks for the responses

Nexus 7 in car install help

Have nearly completed my car install but came across a few hicups which i hope some can help me with.
First
I have purchased a fiio e17 for the digital to analogue converter but realised that once it goes flat it wont turn on without manual hands on with the power button, even with power fed to it. So i assume that i wont be able to use the e17 am i correct ?, are there no work arounds anyone can think of. Perhaps the headphone dock could power it on once power is detected ??.
Otherwise i will have to get the e10
Second
I have been trying to figure a way if possible to power a usb hub externally and have a usb otg cable Y cable connected to the nexus and only feeding power to the nexus and not the usb hub seen as its already powered. Now i have successfully wired the hub for its own power but find i cannot feed or redirect power to the nexus without using the timur kernel. Is it possible at all to have it feed power to the nexus only without the need of custom kernels ??.
Thanks.

Please help asap nexus 7 car install otg timurs usb not seeing usb power

I installed it in my dash and removing it is a pita it was working perfectly fine but for some reason it wasnt showings charge or turning off or on with the car it just stays on i tried restart nothing happens i tried unplugging usb from powergen and plugging back in no result
Also if i go to usb rom under fixed installation i am able to check box and uncheck also did nothing
I am using nexus 7, timurs usb rom, otg cable, original charging cable and powergen usb charger
Please help thanks
Anyone???
I'm also using Timur's kernel with USB ROM for my car installation. I know that it can be very picky on the order the USB plugs are added (data and power). It may seem simple but remove the the OTG cable from the tablet and remove both the data and power legs from the OTG as well. The follow the order listed by Timur on his website:
To activate charging, you must first connect your external power supply to your OTG Y-adapter - then plug the OTG adapter into your Nexus 7 - and then connect any slave devices.

Hopefully that should get you back up and working. I completely understand how frustrating it is to have everything plugged in and see that tablet isn't charging, especially when its difficult to get to the Nexus itself.
does anyone have a easy charging solution these car chargers dont work
and a good otg y cable
You could try using a power inverter which will give you a standard US plug from the cigarette lighter. From here, you could plug in a regular outlet adapter. I found this to work pretty well with my own set up and managed to get one pretty cheap at Walmart. As for a good OTG y cable, your best bet is probably to go on Amazon and find one with a lot of good reviews. They can vary in quality and some of the cheap ones I've gotten from China have flaked out after a short time and little use.

Not seeing usb power
I had the same issue. I was using a 90 degree adapter into an OTG cable and my n7 wouldn't go into fixed install mode. Turns out my adapter cable was stopping the n7 from recognizing power. I removed the 90 degree adapter and plugged straight to otg and it worked as advertised. The issue was found during my bench testing on a 12v powersupply. I still have to find a 90 degree otg cable that will work.
So... try a different cable or if you have an adapter between the otg y cable, that may be the issue.

Charging and simultaneous connectivity

I'm using Android Headunit Reloaded which uses a USB cable to connect between my phone and my 7" TabA. The tablet ends up charging the phone. I was wondering if there was a way to prevent this- or even better- to have a y-splitter OTG cable to charge the tab and one for the phone. I suppose this would require custom kernels?
Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Weird issue xtrons retractable won't switch off

Long story short.
Xtrons retractable headunit with usb connectivity issues. Keeps disconnecting usb devices.
Headunit connected correctly.
Usb dashcam and usb thumb drive. Kept losing usb devices. Ohh well... thought not enough power for both.
Bought Tpms sensors... I needed more usb. I got a powered usb hub so I could connect the lot on it and hope to solve the disconnecting issues.
Everything recognised. Not checked if everything disconnects yet.
Problem... Headunit will not switch off unless I physically unplug the usb hub from the power adaptor which is turning off as it is cigarette lighter powered....
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance
Update
If I remove the power adapter from the hub the headunit shuts down normally.
Still usb devices disconnects every couple of minutes.
Any ideas on how to solve this annoying issue?
How about hard wire the hub power into your ignition so it shuts off when the radio does.

Hub is 5v. I am using a 12to5v cigarette lighter adapter.
Cigarette lighter is ignition controlled and switches off normally. The weird thing is that the 12to5v adapter switches off but headunit will not switch off unless I unplug the hub from the 12to5v adapter.....
