[FAILED] Root Z3 with Locked Bootloader - Xperia Z3 General

Need tester to test if flashing Z2 FTF works or not to root Z3 with locked bootloader.
[UPDATED]
Not working
I have to buy Z3 since my Z2 is broken and I'll loose DRM key forever... haha
If Z3 can boot with Z2 system and kernel without wiping data, it can be rooted,
but in the worst case your Z3 will be completely bricked.
I saw one xda member tried flashing Z2 FTF on Z3 and succeeded to boot,
but still there is a big risk.
I'm not responsible for any damages caused by doing this.
How-to
Downloads
FTF for Z3 of your version and Z2 17.1.2.A.0.314
rootkitXperia_20140719 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559009
PRFCreator from http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/tool-prfcreator-easily-create-pre-t2859904
SuperSU zip from http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
XZDualrecovery installer/flashable for Z1 (don't know if it works) from http://nut.xperia-files.com/
1. Enable USB debugging and unknown sources on Z3
2. Create prerooted zip for Z3 with PRFCreator
3. Enter into flashmode and flash FTF for Z2 17.1.2.A.0.314
Wipe: All unchecked
Exclude: All unchecked
If Z3 can boot with Z2 system and kernel, go to 4.
If you can't, flash Z3 FTF with "Wipe: All checked Exclude: All unchecked" to revert and finish.
For now you can't touch screen since screen of Z2 and Z3 are too different.
4. Run rootkitXperia_20140719 to root
5. Install XZDualrecovery
6. Reboot into recovery and install prerooted zip
7. Enter into flashmode and flash Z3 FTF
Wipe: All unchecked
Exclude: Check only SYSTEM
If it bootloops after booting, reflash Z3 FTF with "Wipe: All checked Exclude: Check only SYSTEM".
8. Done!
Now you have rooted Z3.

nice root
Nice idea, i will test it during the day

@RyokoN
this is interesting. btw how to flash Z2 kernel to Z3? it will fail due to mismatch id/etc.
can u share reference link to the member who successfully flashed Z2 fw to Z3? maybe we need his/her FTF package.

maybe just replace kernel.sin in FTF file? with this way you will have Z3 loader.sin and Z2 kernel.sin inside FTF

and fastboot flash boot kernel.sin ?
btw! boot_delivery.xml from Z2 ftf tried to?

@Desperanto86
negative. locked BL wont allow that.
boot delivery too risky as it will manipulate ta.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@monx®
as I understand, you can't flash and boot not native kernel.sin, because in boot_delivery.xml we can see paths of sources for boot
Z2 kernel has other paths and sources
left Z2, right Z3

@Desperanto86
Understand, tats too risky. ive compared that earlier & brick risk is too high bcos S1 is inclusive.

Well if you're really that desperate to unlock it, then sure why not? But just saying that the things that actually make the Z3 a Z3 isn't like there once the key features are gone. But if you really want a stock android experience with great hardware then sure, by all means you can do so.

[DEV][Thinktank]Root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2? (Android 4.4.4)

Today, the long-awaited update Android 4.4.4 for Sony Xperia™ Z2 is released.
Rejoice!
But, installing this update will overrun the root access. Root access will be gone. So, how to root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2?
I'm gonna try the same old "Easy Root Tool" and see what happens. Any ideas would be good!
-EDIT-
Do you want to update your Sony Xperia™ Z2 to 4.4.4 but don't want to lose root? Don't worry, you won't! Click "here"
Credits to @niaboc79
Also, thanks to @funky0308 and @Envious_Data for their work
-EDIT 2-
I got root on 4.4.4 on my own, using this guide, credits @norti
@niaboc79 's pre-rooted ROM was based on Generic RU and the NC feature wasn't working on it. So I wanted to download a brand new FTF with my customization number and followed the steps on the guide.
ZBAM!
Got my own .167 (4.4.4) ROM (Generic DE) with root on my Sony Xperia™ Z2.
we will find a way...
but you should definitely put question mark in title...
we are lucky to have older fw (I'm talking for LB, z3 can't be downgrade and they will have problems to root 4.4.4. I believe we could use older fw to root fw and to upgrade keeping root...
I'll upgrade later today and will try few things...
In the title a statement and not a question !! WTF
I thought u achieved root, wtf

I doubt...
Sony patched all those security holes and all those methods should be updated.
Of course, someone should try...
Can anyone confirm he upgraded D6503 to 4.4.4?
Wouldn't downloading the update through PC companion and making an ftf/downloading an ftf and then pre-rooting the firmware work? We have recovery for the phone so a pre-rooted flashable firmware should work without working exploits right?

In 30 minutes, I will. The update is downloading now. It's around 1.2GB.
Mod edit
As a few members noticed, the thread title was a little misleading, as it seemed like there already was a way to root the new firmware.
I changed the thread title to one that shouldn't mislead people.
OP, if you have any problems with this, or prefer a different title, please send me a private message or quote this reply.

4.4.4 for D6503 isn't out yet.
Don't bother to download that, it'll say it's 167 but you'll download 314 and flashing will stop immediately after downloading fw.

I didn't actually read any of the other replies to the thread. Mainly cause the main post was all about how could we root it.
It is possible to install the lockeddualrecovery from NUT? If yes we can use it for root

i guess this will be the option for now. Root .314 firmware, backup TA then flash 4.4.4 ftf. Plug the device to flashtool and unlock the BL, install Doomkernel (for recovery), flash supersu.zip, plug phone again to flashtool reflash stock kernel, boot the phone and it should be rooted then restore TA Backup.

It is possible to install it on a rooted firmware, you wouldn't be able to install it on the new firmware without root.

You wouldn't even need to do that.
1) Root .314 firmware.
2) Install locked bootloader recovery.
3) Make a pre-rooted firmware of the 4.4.4 build.
4) Install the firmware through recovery.

Is it for the D6502 or D6503? If I was able to update my D6503 to 4.4.4 I would have done it but I have been plagued with the same problem as all the other D6503 owners. I'm just going to wait for a UK unbranded pre-rooted firmware (or a UK unbranded ftf, whatever comes first).

Easy root Xperia Z2 5.1.1 Stock 23.4.A.0.546

Hi guys I have found an easier method to root 5.1.1 (By accident )
steps
1)flash the ftf 23.4.A.0.546 based upon you device version(d6503 or d6502)
2)Download the latest custom kernel of Androplus(v62 recommended)
3)copy the same into your phone (.zip)
4)flash the boot image from the zip in fastboot to get recovery then install the zip copied earlier
5)download suView attachment UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
6)install the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46 in recovery and congrats you just got your phone rooted
I did test the same,got my D6502 version rooted:angel:
Credits
Androplus for his awesome kernel
give a thumps u if your problem is solved
This is useful only to those who have their bootloader unlocked...
Plus this method is not new... It has been around for quite some time
If you're rooted on previous version, you can make a backup of your TA partition, then do OP steps, then flash stock kernel, and restore TA... Easy

I am rooted right now.
I just downgraded, unchecked the data, appdata and cache and flashed the kitkat rom but it caused bootloop, I flashed again and wiped all the data and cache in the flashtool and it worked.
Rooted, installed recovery and flashed the pre-rooted file from recovery.

The dumpfiles are for mod developers to use. If you want to flash them, you'll need to add updater scripts and flash it via TWRP.
I recommend you just update via Sony's PC Companion if you're really unsure
The firmware has been checked for its file integrity and correct firmware number. There shouldn't be any problem on my end. If there any other issues you find, feel free to update me here.

Recovery and Root for MM .575/.291 LB/UB

This is a port of the original tool by @russel5 from the Z3C forums
I have added support for Z3 D6603, D6653, D6633, D6646 and D6643.
PROCEDURE
* Update to .291 as usual via OTA from Sony or flashing directly.
* Make sure you have ADB set up correctly.
* Use FlashTool to flash the attached .575_kernel.zip for your device before running the recovery tool. You need to re-name the zip and change the .zip extension to .ftf before flashing it! (make sure windows is configured to show file extensions)
* Reboot and check the build date of the kernel. If it is April, you are on 575 kernel and good to go. If June, you are still on 291 kernel and the tool wont work due to the exploit being patched.
** The build number of the rom will show 291, regardless of which kernel is flashed **
* download Recovery_for_MM575-291v5.zip and extract it.
* enable USB-debugging on your phone and plug phone to computer via USB
* Make sure you have closed Flashtool and anything else that uses adb, then run install.bat
* after running the tool you should boot straight into recovery. Then flash https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4164510&d=1496008012to obtain SuperSU root. Put it on the device or external sd card if device is encrypted.
* re-flash the .291 KERNEL back again with Flashtool using the attached 291_kernel.zip for your device. Again, change/re-name the .zip extension to .ftf first! (you won't lose root or recovery)
ADDITIONAL NOTES
If on Windows, in FolderSettings->Show file extensions to be able to rename from ZIP to FTF.
- Assuming it has booted to TWRP after running the tool, to re-enter it, press volume down during re-boot when you see the green LED and feel a vibration. You have 2 seconds to do it. No need to smash volume down repeatedly.
- Reboot apps DO NOT WORK on Sony MM.
- Install a new busybox through Play store at your own risk. Some will break recovery, some won't.
- Some apps install their own busybox. This can also break recovery. If this happens, try running the tool again.
Thanks:
@zxz0O0 for iovyroot
@Wolfbreak for idea with recroot
Special credits to @russel5 for the tool, @serajr for the recovery scripts, and @gustavo_v for showing how to add devices.
Edit: the D6603-6653 .291 zip has a typo. It is actually 23.5.A.1.291, not 23.5.A.0.291

I added Z2 as well. Just no time to make a thread. Try it. You should still boot to TWRP
Edit: Nothing for z2 tablet yet. Post a 575 kernel.sin here and I will add it.

Amazing
Thank you bro!
Now, let's wait till Nougat to start the party again... I hope it soon! Also let's pray for dm-verity disabled in the kernel like MM.

Oh boy, have I been waiting for this. A huge thanks for everybody involved. :good::good::good:
@shoey63 Would this also work for the Z3 Tablet Compact (SGP621)? If so, would you be so kind as to add support for it? :fingers-crossed:
If Google Drive is OK for you, I can upload the kernel.sin. THX

Upload the kernel.sin and I will add it. Hopefully the included TWRP will work with it.

Sure it boots. I tested it. Why would I tell people to flash a different kernel if I didn't know if the device would boot?

Ahh yes the old DoomLorD method.
Rest assured 575 will boot on 291 so you can run the tool to get recovery, (and then flash the super user zip of your choice).
Also be assured that when you re-flash 291 kernel again, you will still retain root and recovery.

kernels embedded with BusyBox+superSu had higher batter drain issues. and superSU don't get updated if its installed in kernel. that why I prefer stock modified kernel with flashable SuperSu and no busybox installed
can someone share Ftf torrent file for E6653 (single SIM model)
nvm
Hi. Sorry for noob question: First we flash kernel and THEN the ftf? Wouldn't the ftf over-ride the kernel? Shall we flash the kernel again after the ftf?
Thanks
Thanks for sharing this!

I managed to get mine going by flashing the ftf first and then the kernel. When I flashed the kernel first, flashtool actually threw an error when trying to install the ftf. So far no camera fc's or anything. Going to try xposed soon.

You need to flash the FTF first
FTF contains all the necessary firmware files (partition images, Kernel, FOTA kernel, Radio Base Bands, Boot Delivery and so on )
Then without starting the phone you should flash the patched kernel via Flashtool's fastboot mode.
Then turn the phone on and have fun !
Hi, great idea, can I use the kernel for E6653 (.305) ?

I have the same question. I have the E6603 (the poor guy's E6653) and wanted to know if I could safely flash only this FTF and keep my current (stock) ROM. Thanks,
So I flashed the FTF only, excluded the kernel and fota kernel using Flashtool. My Z5 now thinks it's dual SIM.
Weird thing, phone isn't rooted. I'll try to reboot to see if I at least got TWRP.

I did not understand , Flashing the FTF will replace your kernel and make it into a DSDS which your phone is not
--- keeping the stock ROM after once you falshed the FTF is out of the question i guess.
