Install Verizon ROMs on Sprint S5! [Guide] - Sprint Galaxy S 5 General

Did you know you can install Verizon S5 ROMs on Sprint S5? (This is for TouchWiz ROMs)
This should work for most Verizon S5 ROMs on Sprint S5. (Also works for S4, S3, and Note 3)
First, make sure you have a bootloader that supports the correct Android version. (e.g. installing 4.4.4 Verizon S5 ROM may require you to have Sprint 4.4.4 bootloader on your Sprint S5, otherwise may not boot.)
Currently I have tested 4.4.2 Verizon Roms on Sprint S5 with 4.4.2 bootloader but haven't tested Verizon 4.4.4 ROMs, will update when I do.
Second, install the Verizon S5 ROM normally with factory reset. It should install fine.
Third, Once booted, set the APN to Sprint 4G LTE as shown here:
http://highonandroid.com/sprint-4g-lte-apn/
Fourth, that will get everything working except MMS sending. To fix MMS sending, just use 8SMS app from Play Store and enable 8SMS as default SMS messaging app.

What's the best Verizon rom?

That is like asking what is the best car. Go drive them and decide for yourself.

This is a really cool find for those flash-a-holics that have beat all the roms for their devices to death and needed more options. Thumbs up my man!!!

Thanks for this tutorial. I tried it and right now I have a fully functional Verizon rom on my g900p.

Any way of running 4.4.4 tw roms?
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

very nice i might be able to get stock mms app to send

That would be great!
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app

I assume this would render Spark useless, correct?

I dont think that would be the case since your reinstalling your sprint apn settings

Can I install a Verizon 4.4.4 rom?

if only this method could Unlock our phones hahah.. since verizon has unlocked firmware.

quite Rude tbh, there is always that one ROM that is the most popular and usually, that is the best one.. Sooo

I have a sprint variant note 3. So far this method has worked for all variants of the note 3 for me. I have flashed Verizon, Tmobile, AT&T Note 3 roms and the apn settings change works on all. On some roms i have found that the apn settings change will not stick. To get mms to send and receive text and pictures on those that do, all you have to do is pull the mms apk from your carriers stock rom and replace the mms apk of whatever said rom you have flashed with it.

Nfl
Does flashing the Verizon rom allow the NFL app that's exclusively for Verizon subscribers to work??

I upgraded my bootloader to 4.4.4 and I flashed Verizon and works like it says ...rickshaw romV1

If u are in 4.4.2 flash 4.4.2 rooms if not 4.4.4 flash 4.4.4 roms

Looks like we can do tmobile aswell testing now will test other carriers aswell I flashed rom then flashed kts kernel reboot

Can a new S4 from ATT carrier be rooted?

Saw a good deal for a new Galaxy S4 for $79 + $70 trade in on my old HTC One. So only $10 for the New S4: )
But reading around people saying the New S4 firmware has a hard lock on it and not easy to root and only one or two roms working on it?
I was gonna root it and put the Google Play Edition ROM on it but some say that's not possible on new S4 from ATT carriers now?

You should do some searching but the s4 with mf3 can be rooted. I know they're not going to have the the new 4.3 update on it yet. But I'd say get the s4 and use the kingo root method.
Use this guide for rooting

Root doesn't mean unlocked. You can be rooted and still have a locked bootloader.did you read before posting? I'm not trying to come off rude.

You will be able to root the AT&T Galaxy S4 easily, almost everyone here in this AT&T S4 forum
already has rooted their phones and have flashed custom roms without any issues.
Good luck!
MF3 can be rooted but you can't flash a custom recovery (TWRP, CWM) If you're asking if you can root the device and flash a custom rom, it all depends on your AT&T store. Try and go to your AT&T store and before they unbox the S4 and start activating everything, make sure you tell them you want a phone with the firmware MDL on it. If they don't have any with the firmware MDL, tough luck. If you get an S4 with MF3, you can only root.
Not only root.
Root it and install Safestrap to install most TW based ROMs that run 4.2.2
Most important is to lube your eyes and
READ/SEARCH all info to do with your build or you will be a victim of the I bricked my phone cause I can't read.you can Google anything to do with your phone and ad "xda" to the search and you will find what you are looking for.

Last two phones I had, the Nexus 4, and Note 2 on ATT, were easy as pie to root and install recovery, and that was it, you were done forever, just flash a ROM + Kernel, reboot and bam you had a fresh new ROM to enjoy, and was so easy and fast to do get it installed, was a no brainer. What happened in the past year with phones being so locked down so hard, where you can't just do that anymore ?
Wish all Android phones were as simple as a Nexus to flash rom's on. But I don't want the Nexus 5 phone with tiny battery, I like bigger batteries or removable, and more storage options, etc...
Yes it can be rooted using the external sd card method. Its actually easy to do.

Thank you. So I can root it no problem, but then it's a matter of very select ROM's available due to my firmware ? And none of them can be 4.3 based ? Which the S4 doesn't even officially have yet, but not even the Google Play Edition ROM that is 4.3 can be installed on this firmware, only the older 4.2.2 version ?
Ok, so I root with using 'Kingo' method
Then install the safestrap .apk, and install that
And then install only a ROM on the provided list, which will all be 4.2.2 based only ? Still rather have any of those, than just stock TW out of the box unrooted
All correct

You can put Google play edition ROMs on but not the 4.3 as stated in the guide. The only real problem for me is that it seems to use more battery than tw roms. And you don't have all the features as your tw based ROMs on the gpe ROMs. Some tw ROMs are just as fast if not faster. Fast speeds and great battery life can't go wrong with that.

You guys recommend a new S4, or the LG G2 ?
Thing is the G2 development is very sparse, and cases and accessories few and little for the G2. And what about resale down the road in a year or 18 months ? Which will fetch better trade in money the S4 or G2 ?
Thanks.

Switched to tmobile

So i switched over to Tmobile this month and i'm struggling getting the 4GLTE data speeds. I did the APN settings trick and i really cant do much more that i know of. IM on the stock 4.3 ATT firmware and rooted using the Kingo method. I tried to install Safestrat 3.65 but i can get it working.. I could just install a Tmobile ROM if i could use a custom recovery but i havent found a way to do it without a softbrick. I've got less than 5Mbps down so thats crap..
Tmo, is not known for really good LTE speeds or coverage.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Incorrect T-Mobile when using a tmobile branded device has very strong lte speeds.
Yes the coverage can be spotty at times ... rarely!
The problem when using AT&T phone with T Mobile SIM cards is that the lte bands are always compatible.
The AT&T s4 does Carry four LTE bands I use it and get great LTE signal with tmobile service. ...only with the AT&T s4 for instance if you use an AT&T note 2 or s3 with T Mobile service it is really bad.
The reason behind The weak or dropped lte isnt really so much for about the bands it is actually how the device is tuned to work with that carriers service.
To get safestrap recovery working download the AT&T s4 safestrap recovery and install it. Just like in apk file just click install .
Everytime you power off or reboot the phone it will first come to safestrap screen then you choose to boot into recovery or continue to boot into the normal operating system by choosing the very bottom left menu button for recovery or the far right button to boot into the phone normal system .

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah I already tried to use Safestrap knowing it may not be compatible. I even used wanam to set my phone into SeLinux permissive mode. The only thing i can think to try is to download the tmobile 4.3 firmware from sammobile but they keep saying their in a transition to a different download server and the firmware hasn't been moved yet.. anyone have the 4.3 tmobile firmware tar and modem for ODin? It should work because they are both same phone just modified through firmware. That would also give me wifi calling and some other good stuff

Do not use T-Mobile stock firmware. The modem and kernel will not work and you will not be able to flash the correct stuff. The firmwares are not the same.

Yeah i tried anyway but my phone worked fine after, no data loss or anything. It didnt go to the tmobile firmware though unfortunately. I need to get to a tmobile ROM though and this restriction is killing me. HAs anyone found a working recovery for 4.3? Or is safe strap developing for it?

Why not trade for a tmobile phone? Then you'd have roms and an unlocked Bootloader.

[Q] Which T-mobile Rom Wifi Calling for AT&T S4?

Hi - I have bought an AT&T S4 with the following version:
4.2.2
I337UCUAMDL
I did the XDA method for unlock, it worked great. Then did super root and it worked, also installed TWRP. I've also done the AWS band unlock.
Now, the biggest challenge, which rom do I install for the stock T-mobile features? Mainly I just want a stable rom with T-mobile wifi calling.
I would appreciate the help.
Thanks!
Read the OPs of the Roms in the T-Mobile S4 section.

Based off T-Mobile firmware but allows ROM to boot for those who tried and got bootloop
Well this can be really good cause their devs and ours can work together.

Yes I flashed it and no signal or data on stock sprint rom
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA Free mobile app
Try flashing the stock sprint kernel. You probably need to change the build.prop to get data to work.
I was thinking the samething. Build props.
Why why would you do this?
Sprint kernel ROM won't boot

Dirty flashed T-Mobile ROM over sprint ROM and data works so I guess it was just an apn issue so we can use Tmobile ROMs

You could use another sim tmobil¿ which ROM did you use?
Flash the stock sprint apns-conf, that's what we do on the S5 to flash other carrier roms and get cellular working.
So is there a way to mod the rom zip so it flashes right the first time with no extra steps?
No mod and once u get data working u cant make calls hopefully a dev will come up with a mod
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA Free mobile app
only way this is going to work is if we can do some sort of build prop edit, you either get talk/text, or you get data, You guys have to remember only the sprint variant is triband.
Does anyone have a link to sprint modems that are available to flash
if you use other carrier Rom, kernel or radio this phone can be sim unlocked?

That shouldn't have any thing to do with unlocking as that is a firmware (modem) thing.
I know were all anxious to flash roms but doing stupid sh?t like this will cause problems later down the road for you dirty flashers. Then our sprint threads will be bogged down with noob-like questions because of noob-like actions. This is a new phone, new forum.... Just be patient so we dont have a 2000 page plus threads over small stuff. Ffs...
