stuck with Mi2 - Rom issues - Xiaomi Mi 2

My Mi2 is not playing fare. Got it from a friend, was running official Chinese ROM, weekly update passed ok.
I wanted to put a local ENG/Heb Rom so I did the natural steps: downloaded the ROM, put on the "SD" root, tried to flash with updater. Error was: can't find update binary. I tried with a different ROM I got from XDA, same result.
I tried recovery, renamed ROM to update.zip, tried to flash it from updater and from recovery, updater was same as before, recovery ended with error: file not signed.
Then I tried to reboot with volume down, I got a nice logo saying "fast boot" and apparently the device came up with a different ROM, probably from Sys1. This is probably another ROM someone tried to flash, it's a developer ROM for sure from Heb MIUI. Problem is that this ROM is extremely broken, almost nothing works. It keeps warning about crashing processes - com.android.phone, google play, updater... I cannot do anything with this ROM, device is not recognised by USB, almost nothing works now. I wanted to run updater to access recovery mode, it keeps crashing. I wanted to get to recovery mode by volume up, it just does not work. I cannot flash anything with updater as it crashes, I cannot download Rom Manager as Google Play keeps crashing.
Actually the best way I could think of if I can get back USB functionality is to flash a new ROM using a mac/PC tool if there is any. Can anyone help me here? this is really hard.

Update: device is not recognised by USB cable either on Mac or PC.
Tried booting with volume up - says mi recovery 2.01
but it does not get to recovery mode. I leave the buttons when logo appears, it loads normally to the bad ROM where everything crashes.

Updare 2:
Was able to get the recovery screen, now I'm on Sys 2 with a stable chinese ROM so back to the problem with not being able to update it. Binary not found.

Maybe get an update.zip from the official Xiaomi website?
The ones from here probably required CWM.
I got an update from miui which was the chinese version (with their supermarket.apk) and it changed into English easy enough.
That being said, I changed to Cyanogenmod a few weeks ago and it's far better than miui (and I really like miui)

What are the main differences? I am contemplating a switch to a different ROM, hopefully one that runs Android KitKat. That said, MIUIAndroid has been good to me but perhaps it is time to move on now that MIUIAndroid's future is in a limbo.

Miui was running fine but I found I had less and less space for new apps. (and I was wary of messing with partition space)
Since switching to Cyanogenmod though, I've had a lot more space for apps and had no problems with space.

Before installing official gingerbread

Flashing the official gingerbread in u8800 its irreversivel process, at least for now.
If you flash it you have to keep it as no way of going back.
If you root it using the only available method, bye bye!
Everytime you reboot the endless bootlooping starts and the only way to stop it is formatting data.
Which means everytime you reboot = bye bye all data and apps etc.
I think is something that its major importance and no one is mentioning this!!!!
I don't know, maybe I've been preaching to deaf ears or something...but...you can re-install the old ROM back, the CWM recovery won't work with the official GB - that much is true - but you will be able to downgrade to an official 2.2.2 (I used the B162) version with the regular update method (at least I was and everything is working just as normal as it used to).
So, irreversible - I don't think so
with the current CWM recovery - it's a no-go
edit: that being said, what works for me, doesn't necessarily work for everyone, so be careful and blame the guy in the mirror -not me, if it doesn't work for you. =)
I think Huawei says wrong here. I flashed 2.3 yesterday. After that, because of the haptic issue I flashed back to official 2.2. Only problem after the 2.2, recovery console had opened. I did factory reset there and phone started without a problem. Then, I had upgraded to 2.3 again. Still haptic don't vibrate. Other than, no problem here. Maybe, I will go back again to 2.2.
Well you are lucky then because you are the only one.
Perhaps what is saying in the official intructions that will be impossible to dowgread after this upgrade won't apply to you.
I have try it with at least 8/9 versions of official release and nothing works!!!!
what 2.2 version is that and you did it after or before rooting?
Have you tried with internal sd? I copied dload folder to internal and started the upgrade process from Storage-Upgrade Firmware. Where did your phone stuck?
Edit: I didn't root my phone. Waiting proper solution. I had used B138.
no, I'm using external SD.
now I'm downloading another official release to try to downgrade using another one...
this time is U8800 V100R001C17B162CUSTC17D001

Well, like I said, what works for me doesn't necessarily work for you.
Anyway, this is what I did and it worked, maybe it can help others.
0. Copy the original B162 ROM ("dload"-folder which has two files, UPDATE.APP AND UPDATE_CUST.APP) to the root of your SDCARD
1. Update to B162 by holding down +- keys while turning on the phone
2. After the first reboot, it's giving error messages for not being able to mount this and that...just ignore it and...
--> Wipe data / factory reset --> remove battery
3. Update the B162 again --> this time everything should go OK, if so, your phone is back to stock B162 and you're ready to use it or update a custom rom (just install Clockwork recovery like you used to and start from there)
The last point (3) may be unnecessary, but I did so just to make sure everything's ok.
Edit: OK, and I meant b162, not b160...

yes I made it with this B162.
**** this **** I'm going back to custom rom.
No point of using this official release if future customs will use the libs from this one.

And then there's the fact that the official gb is still beta, it's not supposed to work perfectly. But as long as the dev team here stays active, I think that I'm gonna stick with custom roms too.
ho my god.
didn't work.
is always booting into recovery
I am stuck here also (
Nothing worked
I tried clockwork recovery - it doesnt get to. It is just rebooting.
I tried with various dload UPDATE.IMG's (GB Overseas, GB orig chinese,B162,B138) nothing is working - stucked in "Step 1/2 Unpacking" window forever.
Anyone has solution for this ?

I have just flashed with new U8800V100R001C00B517G001(Beta1.0)(Overseas Normal)(Gingerbread) but after flashing I kept waiting for start my phone. I restasted many times but same, then I format data its worked and when restarted again it goes in same condition any help ?
until flash disk is writable and it is - there will always be way to go back to old versions it just files.. like reinstalling windows on your pc.
Since the new Rom is public I have read all posts about it here. Maybe I had lucky, or simple due it without messing with the files.
Yesterday I made the upgrade to the new rom, directly from the last Oxigen version, without downgrade to 2.2. I simply create the dload folder on SD card, put there de update file, boot with +- Power, and chose upgrade from SD card.
After step 2 I reboot the phone a install step 3 upgrade. Everything as installed fine, no boot loops, nothing...
Also the root method decribed in this forum as work on first time.
24 hours after the upgrade, and some reboots to test, I never se the boot loops, and the phone is working well.
The new ROM, even in beta stage, to me is a great improvement.
Well either you were lucky or me and the majority were unlucky.
But issues only start to happens when rooting.
So that you can see it fried me the 1 USB cable. This cable is only good to charge the battery now....
Also, ****ed the device USB storage MOUNT.
I connect it to the computer and the computer sees it as a CD drive not allowing any changes.
Also when press the button to mount the USB on the device it never gets mounted and gives the messages that the SD can now be removed.
So I have put this issue many times but up to the moment no one even reply to help.

[Q] How to install a new kernel and a new rom?

Hy,
I'm a noob on this thing of kernels and roms, I've bought a new U8800 and i've been searching here for a guide that explains what to do to install a costum kernel and rom, but never was found hehe ....probably because im not searching in the right spot .... so if someone can help me it would be apreciated....I think i know more or less how to do it but I was reading some posts and some people say that we should make a backup of the stock rom and kernel...in case we would want to get back for warranty... and that i don't know how to do...
Cumps,
Gaspias
Lets begin with kernel now. I assume you are in stock? Serch superboot in modaco. Search x5 section in modaco, and it is one of the stickys. Follow the guide to install it in modaco. It is sticky too, and it is called ultimate guide to ideos x5 u8800. It is made by that-guy
Sent from my Huawei Ideos X5 1.12.9(ret4rt) using XDA App
EDIT: now as I got up even though I am bit sick to get stuff on my X5, let me clean up the post and give you actual instructions:
First of all:
IF YOU DO plan getting a custom rom and a gingerbread system, do not do the superboot thing. it does not help you in installing a rom, and the kernel modifications as long as I know.
First, a clockwork mod for your phone.
What does this do?
We replace stock recovery image, booting into custom one when in case of ideos X5, you press VOLUME UP+Power button to turn on the device. With clockwork mod, you can handle installing custom roms, kernels, and other content.
You can get 4.0.0.5 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130524 (Again, if someone reports that the 5.x.x.x DOES work so you can actually flash anything with it, say so, and link to it. Still, 4.0.0.5 works for most of stuff and does it job well.
To install it, go through these steps:
- Download the recovery.zip (with your computer of choice)
- Create a folder somewhere practical to back up your old recovery image, I myself made a ideos X5 folder to my C where I gathered a lot of stuff, having a backup image folder and zips for the custom roms.
- Turn off the phone, wait, and boot it by first pressing BOTH volume down and volume up, and then the power button, the screen should slide in pink screen, when it does, plug the phone in to your computer
with usb cable, you should see a drive pop up. NOTE: as I learned myself, there is alternative way to doing this, mainly, a computer free way, but it also resorts in Root browser that may be harder to do without a rooted phone. So, if you have a computer of any sort, do it this way.
- After you do see the drive, open the image folder, plain copy the recovery.img to your computer, to a separate folder somewhere where recommended to back it up - just in case. After that, replace it with the clowckwork mod recovery.img by just plain write and overwrite - good way to know is that the stock official recovery is about ~9 megs large, while ClockWorkMod is ~5 megs. After transfer give it about 20 seconds before you safely yank the USB cord off, and then your battery. Wait 5 secs just for laughs and put the battery in. You can now test the CWM boot by holding VOLUME UP and Power button until the recovery menu comes up. reboot the device after it boots succesfully, you cannot do anything with it, yet.
Now, like I pointed out before I edited, that most of the roms have their own modified kernel already, that they do also update with their release (MIUI, and CM7 as long as geno could work on it) - so flashing your own kernel modification speratedly would be pretty much unneeded.
So, right now, dip in to the ideos x5 android development forum, and just choose either the newest MIUI, from ret4rt, the now halted CM7 by geno - for both these I can report that they do WORK and are usable, and if anything can have a minor trouble or two (for myself, both of these have a crackling sound on higher volumes problem - pretty much you need to keep your media volume at half way if you use pair of earphones or you will hate the sound quality results) - There is also lastly the oxygen build(s) by someone but I will not vouch for nor talk against any of them because I have not tested them, and that said, I also feel liable to mention in any case that you may want it particulally, that there is versions built by people for u8800.
First, though I think you may know them, I run down the CWM navigation, because of it's nature that it is not navigated with touch screen:
Power button = OK, choose.
Volume up goes up in menu.
volume down goes down in the menu.
BACK (touch) button goes back. (remember this, is important with some mispresses in menu)
To install these, put the .zip file of the ROM to some easy path, probably root, of your EXTERNAL SD card. - boot into CWM (though the volume up+power after you shut down your phone) and from there, I myself advice so no troubles com up to wipe your data, wipe your cache, wipe dalvik cache (this option is in Advanced part of the CWM main menu) and after that, start installing by "install zip" and "choose zip file from SD card" - after that browse the ROM zip of your choise and choose it. Install it, and afterwards reboot.
The wipe, you may ask, "is it necessary" not maybe for everything, but advised. my first custom rom installation had nasty habit of not being able to do wifi communication and other stuff, entirely just because I did not wipe before installing it, needing me to do another set of complete wipe and install before I had a usable custom ROM system in my hand, so, be advised.
Original message:
I as someone who went through same thing just a week ago (and already feels like I have done this for a month) can say that xda developers is quite tutorial free, that is to say, instead tellind what to do everyone expects you already DO know.
On emergency total recall: there is a 2.2.2 image from huawei. Unlike custom roms, you boot install it through a dload of huawei's own, by booting the phone to the volplusminus+power mode, it works even if you fukt your recovery image, and installing it pretty much wipes anything you ever done to the phone, leaving no traces of it's modded life. I do not have link for this now, as it was in the chinese site where you can also find the current 2.3.5 betas, sorry.
*edited out for the actual instruction tutorial*
nice tutorial ^^
Thank you very much for the explenation, I don't know how to thank you guys!
With some problems that we have with this roms and kernels, do you think that is worth changing ?
Well the beauty of it is that it's a decision all yours to make. I myself can say that the earphone volume is minor thing that gets my nerves, but with that tradeoff you get slightly more powerful cellphone, a system with UI you choose (I personally liked MIUI for the 24 hours I used it myself) and so on. It is also reversable and some people even make testing roms as their hobby. As there is a thread even now about some mystery ROM from china nobody knows nothing about but bravest get in to it and tell the tale.
Anyway, if you feel you are up to it, do it. Read through the descriptions to see is feature you want to keep broken somehow just in case. MIUI is goos, bit iOS:ey, still quite different os to look and use, CM7 is pretty much stock gingerbread upgrade - and LOADSA ADDITIONS - if you'd like something more of look and usage of stock android.
hey everyone, thanks for the tutorial
I used to have a Windows mobile 6.5, flashing it every time, and just bought my Android today, and searched for a couple of hours until I find this tutorial for a complete - and quite simple!! - full backup of the stock image.
That said, I have just one doubt
Now that i'm about to update my phone to the official Huawei Gingerbread version - before the custom roms, i'll give it a try - do I need the CWM image for it?
Or I can do it simply from the stock rom, with no trouble?
Thanks a million

Phone bricked after attempted update to ICS

Hi all,
Need help with my phone... :\
So I wanted to install ICS on my phone today (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492957) and I looked at the instructions, obviously you have to have a stock ROM installed first before going for the ICS update. At this time I had CM7.1 installed. So I chucked the files on my SD Card to install (the ICS and Stock) and went ahead into clockwork recovery to try and install the stock ROM first. This didn't work, as at the time I didn't know you have to install it via the pink screen and extract the zip folder and put the dload folder in the root of the sd card. So when I tried to install it, it said starting installation, and then would say installation aborted, I had no idea why, so I tried another couple of times, still didn't work. I then updated my clockworkmod recovery to the latest version for the U8800 and it still didn't work (as I was obviously doing it wrong...). I also happened to have an update for CM7 on the SD card that I never got around to installing (7.1.0.1), and so I tried to install that and again it said installation aborted (not sure why that didn't work, should of...). So then I thought, that's odd, nothings working, betcha the ICS ROM won't install either, see if something else is wrong, so I pressed install... and it started installing... not exactly what I wanted or was expecting. So it seemed to install alright with no errors, so I did a reboot out of recovery. It then stuck on the white Huawei logo screen and just stayed there... some folders got created on my SD card (apps that I had installed on CM7), no idea why, it didn't seem to boot, left it for 5 minutes and still just the white logo screen.
So I then did some more reading and learnt that I needed to put the official ROM's dload folder to the root of the SD card and install it via the pink screen. I tried this, unpacks it fully and completes step 1, but it gets to step two, and 5 seconds later after it starts attempting to install the ROM it says, Installation Failed.
So I was looking around for people who had a similar problem as me, and found some, they found a way to fix it which was to put the dload folder in the root of the internal SD card, unfortunately I have no idea how to get to that when the phone doesn't boot up into the OS. I tried putting it in the internal storage via the pink screen, but that's only 200-250MB in size, and the file needs around 300MB, so there wasn't enough room. I tried repartitioning the storage hoping this would increase it, or return it to normal (as I had partitioned it before to the 1.42GB/1.12GB partition that others had posted up previously) and it didn't change a thing. So I have no idea how to get to internal storage D:
Not having fun so far... so I thought I might try and install CM7 again, and then go to stock, and then to ICS, or maybe just leave it on CM7 and give up for now. Unfortunately the version of CM7 I had isn't available anymore, and the newer version you have to have stock ROM installed first, so I decided to grab oxygen instead. Downloaded it and chucked the zip folder onto my SD card and tried to boot into recovery (Power+VolUp) and now it won't even go into that! It goes to the pink screen (Power+VolUp+VolDown) without any issue and I can connect to the computer and access the files on there.
So basically, I've bricked my phone and I would love it so much if you could help me get it back, I really don't want to have to go back to my old Nokia 2760 (http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_2760-1975.php) where the speaker doesn't even work, so if I make/receive a call, I have to put it to loud speaker or headphones to actually hear their voice... would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Gunny
I think you have some hope left if you can go in the pink screen mode. You should find some istructions from general section and Q&A section. If you can go to pink screen you should be able to install official Huawei rom.

I finally got it all sorted, if it wasn't for that pink screen, I'd be stuffed!
I had to go back to a 2.2.1 ROM before it would finally accept it and install. Had a bit of cache and corruption, but android eventually cleared/cleaned itself and put itself back to normal. Now I've got the official version of Gingerbread on my phone, and I'm not sure if I should upgrade to the official version of ICS or whether I should upgrade to Aurora's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22682229#post22682229) version of ICS. Thoughts? And don't worry, this time I won't screw it all up!
Thanks all!
Alright, just discovered my official ICS ROM is for the U8800 pro, not the standard one, so I guess I will be going for Aurora!

I have a Huawei U8860 and wants to go from custom rom MIUI to stock rom B925. Can I just follow your advice here and install it via the pink screen?

Stock ROMs Factory v6.1 , v8.3 , v8.4 , v8.5 , v8.7, V9.0, V9.2-patch : v21

CAUTION TO NOT LOOSE TWRP
I read two posts that say v21, now again on V8.5, put the stock recovery back instead of twrp. This is probably a side effect of a fresh stock /system and wipe of /data.
As a preventive step, when done flashing and wiping reboot to recovery FIRST, before booting the system It will allow recovery to handle removing the recovery-from-boot.p that flashes stock recovery.
I just patched the modified V7.4.2 up to the newly released 8.3 now 8.4. 8.5, 8.7,9.0 -V9.2 Patch
New update has been made from V17 to V21 of the non prime version of R1-HD, Non prime is behind on security patch (2017-05-05)
Copied ROM from phone and made twrp install ROM from it.
* No preloader change (official updates change the preloader to block your ability to use sp flash tools for rom flashing)
* No lk.bin change __ this part is what allows you to choose boot options(boot menu when power and volume pressed together)
* No "FOTA" app Fota has now been left in to make it easier to get next update, if that ever happens.
* No opera browser
* No adds (removed in the modified 7.4.2)
* Custom boot logo (only done on v8.3, there was no interest in this so abandoned)
--Newer versions of rom left stock, Leaving mods up to user.
** while it is not necessary to do a wipe with this ROM, I still recommend it.
**Thanks:
** @vampirefo needed his patched v7.4.2 in order to apply this new 8.3 patch and again for 8.4

and the modified zip is here .
Roms are rootable with SuperSU, flashed in twrp after install. Must be done in systemless mode. In order to patch system veridy in boot.img
Logo update did not work on original rom changing link to updated version
BLU rolled v8.3 back to v7.4.2 because of app compatability issues. V8.4 is there fixed release. Both 8.3 and 8.4 are modified prime roms with ads stripped
V21 is the non prime update.

I had that happen to my second phone too.
I don't have an explanation yet.
I even made a separate update.zip , that one didn't make the logo change either. I did eventually change it with sp flash tool.
I tried with both recoveries.
and multiple /dev location formats. and for whatever reason my one phone did not accept the logo change from recovery.
And the other test phone it worked.

Neither did I but it all seems to be working fine
Been using this for about a day now, likewise no custom boot logo, but that's fine. Otherwise, it's been running super well. A lot better than the previous mostly stock version did for me with the bloatware APKs removed after the install. A lot of the general idiosyncrasies of the previous version of the stock rom seem to have gone away for me. It seemed to have weird storage management issues, errors moving to SD, broken symlinks that prevent apps from moving or being reinstalled, and a lot of other little non-storage issues, but so far, none off that here.
Long story short, good work! I hope we eventually see proper 7.x roms through some of the efforts going on, but in the meanwhile, your work here has made life a little bit better on 6.
It seems that I was able to get the logo.bin to update when I applied the original update patch, but not when I used the same line in the rom install.
It is no big deal that it did not work, I was just trying to make it look different at boot time.
edit:
I think i found the problem with the logo not updating.
i used the update-binary from the official patch update. (the one that allowed the logo to change the first time)
and it changes . so since the ROM seems to install the way it is , only the logo didn't flash I put it in a separate update.zip if anyone is interested in it.
EDIT 2:
clarification.
It was not so much the binary allowing the logo to change but the format of the partition location I had been using that needed that binary.
Further test had shown me that I could have used the binary I was using but just change the partition naming line
Code:
package_extract_file("logo.bin", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p9")
the above code works with the same update-binary as rom install
But I was using
Code:
package_extract_file("logo.bin", "/dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.msdc0/by-name/logo")
Taken straight from the official patch, and thats why it needed the update-binary also.
I dont know what is different in the binary other than , major size difference.
The powered by me logo was just a test file to see changes in the logo.
**logo-update is same as composite but with alt updater-binary
**composite-logo screenshot is in op
**stock logo will return to original BLU logo

Hahaha the scribbled "ME" is hilarious. Your work is awesome, I don't think anyone using this rom will have an issue with the boot image but thanks for being so helpful and explaining.
P. S. Do you have any plans with the Nougat update?

Nougat is going to take a full build from scratch. We don't have 100% identical hardware with any other nougat device to my knowledge. We might have the same MTK chipset, but there are several other differences. All we really need is an official device overlay and the vendor files released by BLU themselves. We can then apply those to the latest Lineage or AOSP (I prefer AOSP myself) and build. Then the only problem we'll run into is anything that has changed in 7.x that isn't compatible with our kernel we use in 6.0. It'd be a slight chance our current kernel would work without some patches on 7.x We can't even get our official sources for anything else, so I'm almost certain we'll not find any patches to for the kernel to work properly with Nougat, at least not from BLU or any similar devices. None The less Nougat has been well thought of, and we have been trying to debug issues with a broken Port. But a broken port from a different device is just that - Broken. We need a team of knowledgeable devs to build Nougat + Kernel from scratch and then we'll have it working. I can't do it alone with the old computer I have, the R1HD would be long forgot of by the time I got Android Compiled haha.
Mr. Mazak I flashed your rom it went smooth, I was hoping the newest update was for 6.0.1. But I didn't lose any functionality, hopefully on my Cricket Service this update has patched some things to the radio device that will retain connection more steadily. I experienced a lot of coming and going with the 7.4.2 rom. None The Less you did a good job with this update Mr. My suggestion is find the same MTK chipset with a fully working 7.x rom and just port the /System but keep all our libs and inits from this release just for a test starter. And don't replace the camera app thats in AOSP 7.x. )

It was just wishful thinking. I have no idea how all of this is done. All I know is @mrmazak has helped me to fall in love with my phone again with this V8.3. The 7.4.2 did seem a bit buggy for my phone but this update works beautifully and I didn't even root it. If this remains true I will be happy with this phone for awhile even on 6.0
Really confused right now.
I was browsing through the settings menus. And found in the Settings-security- menu a toggle labeled "quick boot" ( not to be confused with "fastboot") . I enabled it then rebooted to see if it booted quicker. Didn't seem to make much if any difference. So I went back to turn it back off. And it wasn't there. I checked in my other phone , it wasn't there on that one either.
Did any body see this menu item, and if so where is is it?
Edit 1:
Few more power off , power on cycles to compare times. With other phone and defiantly seems to have turned on some faster boot option.
This phone goes from off to on in 5-6 seconds other phone takes about 20.
Edit 2:
OK , I panicked for a minute.
Couldn't find the setting and thought that it was another way to block sp flash tool by preventing you from ever being fully powered off.
But the setting was in accessibility not security.
Mrmazak, first of all, thanks for the ROM, installed it yesterday. But I have a problem with SELinuxModeChanger app. First, I'm getting a security warning when installing it, then - when running it. And another message, with this app running - "can't obtain root", although SuperSU shows its status with green #, like every other app it gives root privileges to. On my other Prime phone, running 6.1 out of the box stock ROM, FM radio works just fine with SELinuxModeChanger app behaving flawlessly (no security warnings whatsoever). Any ideas?

The mode changer app is technically a security issue. I did have that warning a few times when using mode changer app from the XDA thread of the developer, then when I used the app downloaded from f-droid it worked with systemless root and didn't give the security warning.
The app downloaded from f-droid worked for me as well, many thanks!
Big thanks for getting this out, updated from previous debloated, rooted version to this modified 8.3 stock rom, rooted with SU v2.79 SR3, all is good - only App that won't show up nor install, even tried the ones off APK Mirror site - is my Dunkin Donuts App, LOL. Play Store now said it's not compatible and the APK started to install then failed - any ideas or suggestions on what to do ??
Otherwise, it's all good - I will survive without DD App, just run that from another device when I need my caffeine fix.

I also had an app that previously work, say is not compatible now.
Maybe has to do with apps that have links to pay accounts. And that has something to do with trustzone. (Tee1 & tee2)
Those sections I left out of the update. I will add it back in and test. Update when I do. It is also possible this problem is why Blu rolled back there update.
**EDIT**
well that didn't go well at all.
I flashed the new trustzone.bin files from the official update. Now phone no longer turns on and no longer connects to flash tool
**EDIT 2**
After much persistence and many failed attempts to get phone recognized in pc again. Finnaly got to a point that phone was cycling between "preloader" driver and "usb serial device", and with careful timing was able to start sp flash tool at just right time and the flashing back to original trustzone files seems to have recovered phone.
for the record i am not sure what steps made it work. But I was shifting back and forth between leaving phone sit on charge, then on charge with rubber band wrapped around power button, then not plugged in , and not plugged in with rubber band on power button.
Okay... persistence is key in customization, i guess! I am getting somewhere here!

Finally got thru the steps in order (1-2-3-4) then Step (5) and sub-step 1. I can also boot to TWRP.
Now this brings me to this thread, 8.3 Stock ROM. The thread assumes one knows how to install it and I suspect this could be as easy as uploading it to a folder in the phone then booting to TWRP and INSTALLING the ZIP file? Could someone clarify the steps to install this 8.3 ROM?
Thanks!

Yes. You are correct
Either put the zip file on external sd card , put card into phone boot into recovery mode and install , or put file directly onto phone .
Many ways to do that.
Easiest is to copy to phone while phone is connected to PC.
Cam also download file from internet with your phone.
Bottom line is get zip file to the phone boot to recovery and install
Anyone else having wifi issues after upgrading? While watching videos it seems the internet cuts out. The phone says it's still connected but I have to turn wifi off and back on for anything to work. Could be my router also but it didn't seem to be doing this until I installed 8.3

Right on man! I am officially running 8.3 ROM with April 5th 2017 Security Patch Level! Geez.. it was not easy but I got this working!
MrMazak, I followed all your instructions on both links, so could you tell me what exactly I have on my phone? Is it rooted? Bootloader Unlocked? The phone seems to be working fine but I don't know what level of access I have. Honestly I don't even know exactly what the differences between all these terms are.
Also, do I have or not SU? One of the steps under the .bat I believe install it. How do I access it?
Thanks again!

My install is pretty fresh, couple of hours, but as far as I can tell all is working fine with Wifi, As a matter of fact this is a new device only connected with Wifi and no SIM Card.... internet works fine.

Trying to install TWRP and Lineage . . . vbmeta is in the way

I've been trying for the last few days to root and install Lineage on a brand new S6 lite tablet. I've downloaded Lineage, Odin, stock rom, ADB/platform tools, Ls4 tool, the 7 whatever it is extraction tool. I've unlocked the bootloader (I can recite every option under developer options). I've installed Magisk hoping that it might help if I rooted the dumb thing (spoiler alert: it rooted, it didn't help). I've tried to install it using ADB (before reading that Samsungs don't play nice with it ). I tried to side load it with an SD card; tablet liked the card, poo poo'd the files on it. I've used ODIN in every way shape and form, it always says "Yay! You Pass!" then my tablet reboots saying "Boo! You Lose!". I then reinstall the stock ROM, try something else, reinstall stock ROM, try this solution, reinstall stock ROM. The latest and greatest hurdle: when trying to install TWRP I get the error message VBMETA Error verifying image, not signed (3), verification disabled bit is set. I found info on that here, downloaded vbmeta from my stock ROM, tried to use a blank vbmeta, even went overboard and did something with the PIT function in Odin (saw it in the internet, it HAS to be correct, right?). Nothing nothing nothing.
I've rooted and installed custom ROM on Samsung tablets in the past, but this is ridiculous. It would take me a LONG time to give all the details of everything I've tried, if needed I can. At this point it's the principal of the matter . . . I am going to make this happen one way or another, and any advice someone might have would be appreciated.

I believe he used LineageOS Recovery instead of TWRP (since the latter has been abandoned by the developer due to too many problems getting it working properly).

What he said . . . still my hero!!!! Not sure if it matters or not, but I ended up using Heimdall/ADB to install Lineage. More key strokes but it worked the first time I tried it. Thumbs up for it
I'm hanging installing the recovery, see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...s-on-galaxy-tab-s6-lite.4417629/post-86603873
How to reboot into recovery after flashing? I always land into Stock ROM
I mistakenly thought that Heimdell could get you right into recovery mode, but upon reading the instructions I sent you it says you need to boot into recovery manually . . . I apologize for the wrong info. I can say that I found that if you don't move them fingers FAST from the reboot mode to recovery mode buttons, you will keep getting plopped back to the stock ROM. Like the SECOND the screen goes dark you switch over to the power and volume up buttons, AND DO NOT LET GO! I do remember having a bit of a pause when booting into the Lineage recovery, and I thought I would have to start over when the recovery screen came up. I did a triple take, couldn't believe I got it to work.

Did your S6 happen to show "KG STATE: Checking" constantly? After 2 hours, even though the console shows that there was success, the device itself appears to constantly be downloading, as per the instructions. But even after 2 hours, there is no notification on the tablet that shows the download is complete.
