Phone bricked after attempted update to ICS - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hi all,
Need help with my phone... :\
So I wanted to install ICS on my phone today (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492957) and I looked at the instructions, obviously you have to have a stock ROM installed first before going for the ICS update. At this time I had CM7.1 installed. So I chucked the files on my SD Card to install (the ICS and Stock) and went ahead into clockwork recovery to try and install the stock ROM first. This didn't work, as at the time I didn't know you have to install it via the pink screen and extract the zip folder and put the dload folder in the root of the sd card. So when I tried to install it, it said starting installation, and then would say installation aborted, I had no idea why, so I tried another couple of times, still didn't work. I then updated my clockworkmod recovery to the latest version for the U8800 and it still didn't work (as I was obviously doing it wrong...). I also happened to have an update for CM7 on the SD card that I never got around to installing (7.1.0.1), and so I tried to install that and again it said installation aborted (not sure why that didn't work, should of...). So then I thought, that's odd, nothings working, betcha the ICS ROM won't install either, see if something else is wrong, so I pressed install... and it started installing... not exactly what I wanted or was expecting. So it seemed to install alright with no errors, so I did a reboot out of recovery. It then stuck on the white Huawei logo screen and just stayed there... some folders got created on my SD card (apps that I had installed on CM7), no idea why, it didn't seem to boot, left it for 5 minutes and still just the white logo screen.
So I then did some more reading and learnt that I needed to put the official ROM's dload folder to the root of the SD card and install it via the pink screen. I tried this, unpacks it fully and completes step 1, but it gets to step two, and 5 seconds later after it starts attempting to install the ROM it says, Installation Failed.
So I was looking around for people who had a similar problem as me, and found some, they found a way to fix it which was to put the dload folder in the root of the internal SD card, unfortunately I have no idea how to get to that when the phone doesn't boot up into the OS. I tried putting it in the internal storage via the pink screen, but that's only 200-250MB in size, and the file needs around 300MB, so there wasn't enough room. I tried repartitioning the storage hoping this would increase it, or return it to normal (as I had partitioned it before to the 1.42GB/1.12GB partition that others had posted up previously) and it didn't change a thing. So I have no idea how to get to internal storage D:
Not having fun so far... so I thought I might try and install CM7 again, and then go to stock, and then to ICS, or maybe just leave it on CM7 and give up for now. Unfortunately the version of CM7 I had isn't available anymore, and the newer version you have to have stock ROM installed first, so I decided to grab oxygen instead. Downloaded it and chucked the zip folder onto my SD card and tried to boot into recovery (Power+VolUp) and now it won't even go into that! It goes to the pink screen (Power+VolUp+VolDown) without any issue and I can connect to the computer and access the files on there.
So basically, I've bricked my phone and I would love it so much if you could help me get it back, I really don't want to have to go back to my old Nokia 2760 (http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_2760-1975.php) where the speaker doesn't even work, so if I make/receive a call, I have to put it to loud speaker or headphones to actually hear their voice... would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Gunny

I think you have some hope left if you can go in the pink screen mode. You should find some istructions from general section and Q&A section. If you can go to pink screen you should be able to install official Huawei rom.

I finally got it all sorted, if it wasn't for that pink screen, I'd be stuffed!
I had to go back to a 2.2.1 ROM before it would finally accept it and install. Had a bit of cache and corruption, but android eventually cleared/cleaned itself and put itself back to normal. Now I've got the official version of Gingerbread on my phone, and I'm not sure if I should upgrade to the official version of ICS or whether I should upgrade to Aurora's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22682229#post22682229) version of ICS. Thoughts? And don't worry, this time I won't screw it all up!
Thanks all!

Alright, just discovered my official ICS ROM is for the U8800 pro, not the standard one, so I guess I will be going for Aurora!

I have a Huawei U8860 and wants to go from custom rom MIUI to stock rom B925. Can I just follow your advice here and install it via the pink screen?

[Q] just got my nook color looking for some clarity

so i just bought my nook color today and i have some questions, i was searching around in the android development forum and their were about 50 different methods of doing everything.
i am experienced with android and how to do anything just if somebody could post up links in an order i need to follow to be able to get CM7 on to it.
if possible flashing to nand would be preferable but if all we have is SD support thats okay too
thanks for the help guys
also i know i will likely get flamed for this thread but just know i am experienced with android and i have ran it on a non native device before (htc vogue).
My go-to link for flashing CM7 to the internal memory:

You can get just about anywhere with the nook via two steps:
1) run autonooter for your software version (THIS is for 1.1, obviously for the other versions it will be a different thread)
2) use the market to download ROM Manager, then flash the CWM recovery and download 7.0.2 from the app (or pull a different CWM zip from the forums onto your card if you prefer) and flash.
Simple enough

This isn't your Hero!!! I don't think you can brick this thing.... The Nook always tries to boot from SD before internal memory!!! I had a hell of a time getting CM7 to load originally (at least 10+ minutes). Once you get it loaded, put away that SD card you burned the recovery image too.....Put a new SD card in, install Rom Manager, and flash recovery to it from Rom Manager. Once you get there you can Nand and flash stuff just like you do on your phone.
**Edit** If you get really jammed up, here's the thread on returning to stock unrooted B&N firmware, so you can start over....

[Q] Roms wont load/pd15img.zip doesnt work

Hello everyone, First off I would like to thank all of those that have posted on this site and contribute to it.
Now to my problem. Let me share a little history of how everything started.
I first rooted my MT4G about a year ago, Tried to use IcedGlacier but it was not loading properly so I used cyanogenmod 6 I believe? I wanted to try IcedGlacier but It still was not loading properly. Then when I tried to restore it would not restore properly. At this point it appeared to be bricked but bootloader still worked but the PD15img file was not found. So after some researched I downloaded it and it restored my phone back to factory condition. Now I want to try other roms again because I'm getting bored of stock and attempting to load different kernels but this is where my issues are beginning.
As you can see in the attached photo that is what the bootloader looks like. I thought it was weird that next to hboot it says "HBOOT-0.85.2007 (PD1510000)".
(I tried to post the image but since I'm a noob I and unable. If you want to see the screen shot of my bootloader just message me.
I was thinking maybe this is a reason as to why now No other rom but the stock one will load. Also what is weird is that when it goes into bootloader it still says PD15img is not found but the phone will start up fine with the stock rom.
The phone remains rooted but No Rom or Kernel will Load and fully install.
When It loads roms it goes to install it shuts off and reboots into stock rom.
I tried to Use the PD15IMG.zip on the SD card to see maybe if it didn't load properly but it will begin to load with the blue bar in the corner but then after it goes all the way up nothing else happens.
I have been trying to look for answers but haven't found any real answers that help me fix my problem.
So if someone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
The "no PD15IMG.zip" message is supposed to appear. When the bootloader loads, it checks the root of your SD for that file, and if it's not there, you'll get that message. Nothing wrong with that.
Since you're perm-rooted and running the engineering boatloader, you just need to make sure your recovery image is good. If you haven't already, download ROM Manager from the Market and use that to install a fresh copy of ClockworkMod recovery. From there you should be good to flash any ROM you want.
Thanks, I did what you said plus I realized when I was downloading the roms using a Mac and my Mac would unzip the file automatically and trying to compress it back to a zip doesn't work at all. But thanks alot for the help!
If the PD15IMG.zip doesnt work you probably dont have the part7-xxxxxxxxxx.zip file on your sdcard

Before installing official gingerbread

Flashing the official gingerbread in u8800 its irreversivel process, at least for now.
If you flash it you have to keep it as no way of going back.
If you root it using the only available method, bye bye!
Everytime you reboot the endless bootlooping starts and the only way to stop it is formatting data.
Which means everytime you reboot = bye bye all data and apps etc.
I think is something that its major importance and no one is mentioning this!!!!
I don't know, maybe I've been preaching to deaf ears or something...but...you can re-install the old ROM back, the CWM recovery won't work with the official GB - that much is true - but you will be able to downgrade to an official 2.2.2 (I used the B162) version with the regular update method (at least I was and everything is working just as normal as it used to).
So, irreversible - I don't think so
with the current CWM recovery - it's a no-go
edit: that being said, what works for me, doesn't necessarily work for everyone, so be careful and blame the guy in the mirror -not me, if it doesn't work for you. =)
I think Huawei says wrong here. I flashed 2.3 yesterday. After that, because of the haptic issue I flashed back to official 2.2. Only problem after the 2.2, recovery console had opened. I did factory reset there and phone started without a problem. Then, I had upgraded to 2.3 again. Still haptic don't vibrate. Other than, no problem here. Maybe, I will go back again to 2.2.
Well you are lucky then because you are the only one.
Perhaps what is saying in the official intructions that will be impossible to dowgread after this upgrade won't apply to you.
I have try it with at least 8/9 versions of official release and nothing works!!!!
what 2.2 version is that and you did it after or before rooting?
Have you tried with internal sd? I copied dload folder to internal and started the upgrade process from Storage-Upgrade Firmware. Where did your phone stuck?
Edit: I didn't root my phone. Waiting proper solution. I had used B138.
no, I'm using external SD.
now I'm downloading another official release to try to downgrade using another one...
this time is U8800 V100R001C17B162CUSTC17D001

Well, like I said, what works for me doesn't necessarily work for you.
Anyway, this is what I did and it worked, maybe it can help others.
0. Copy the original B162 ROM ("dload"-folder which has two files, UPDATE.APP AND UPDATE_CUST.APP) to the root of your SDCARD
1. Update to B162 by holding down +- keys while turning on the phone
2. After the first reboot, it's giving error messages for not being able to mount this and that...just ignore it and...
--> Wipe data / factory reset --> remove battery
3. Update the B162 again --> this time everything should go OK, if so, your phone is back to stock B162 and you're ready to use it or update a custom rom (just install Clockwork recovery like you used to and start from there)
The last point (3) may be unnecessary, but I did so just to make sure everything's ok.
Edit: OK, and I meant b162, not b160...

And then there's the fact that the official gb is still beta, it's not supposed to work perfectly. But as long as the dev team here stays active, I think that I'm gonna stick with custom roms too.
ho my god.
didn't work.
is always booting into recovery
I am stuck here also (
Nothing worked
I tried clockwork recovery - it doesnt get to. It is just rebooting.
I tried with various dload UPDATE.IMG's (GB Overseas, GB orig chinese,B162,B138) nothing is working - stucked in "Step 1/2 Unpacking" window forever.
Anyone has solution for this ?

I have just flashed with new U8800V100R001C00B517G001(Beta1.0)(Overseas Normal)(Gingerbread) but after flashing I kept waiting for start my phone. I restasted many times but same, then I format data its worked and when restarted again it goes in same condition any help ?
until flash disk is writable and it is - there will always be way to go back to old versions it just files.. like reinstalling windows on your pc.
Since the new Rom is public I have read all posts about it here. Maybe I had lucky, or simple due it without messing with the files.
Yesterday I made the upgrade to the new rom, directly from the last Oxigen version, without downgrade to 2.2. I simply create the dload folder on SD card, put there de update file, boot with +- Power, and chose upgrade from SD card.
After step 2 I reboot the phone a install step 3 upgrade. Everything as installed fine, no boot loops, nothing...
Also the root method decribed in this forum as work on first time.
24 hours after the upgrade, and some reboots to test, I never se the boot loops, and the phone is working well.
The new ROM, even in beta stage, to me is a great improvement.
Well either you were lucky or me and the majority were unlucky.
But issues only start to happens when rooting.
So that you can see it fried me the 1 USB cable. This cable is only good to charge the battery now....
Also, ****ed the device USB storage MOUNT.
I connect it to the computer and the computer sees it as a CD drive not allowing any changes.
Also when press the button to mount the USB on the device it never gets mounted and gives the messages that the SD can now be removed.
So I have put this issue many times but up to the moment no one even reply to help.

Acer 500a Rooted and unable to update

I have an Acer 500a I just bought off carigslist. Initially I thought it would be fine but then I realized I was inheriting someone elses problems. I hope someone may be able to help.
Within the first few hours I was noticing google Play crashed a number of times and struggled to update from Market. Somehow the update went through but now there is a system update that won't go through. I'm able to down load it and when i restart the computer to complete installation the screen goes black and says: booting recovery kernel in the corner. I then see a picture of an android and a load bar which after 2-4 seconds the android is on his back and an exclaimation mark is coming out of his belly.
My android version is 3.2
Kernel version
2.6.36.3+
Build number
Acer_a500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2
I'm pretty sure its rooted and i think that might be why its not playing nice with google market and system updates. I called the old owner and explained the problem and he just said he had it rooted and he thought he unrooted it. There is an ap called superuser in aps. (although if it were rooted would'nt I be able to uninstal some of thecrap software it comes with like GOLF HD? -- it won't let me).
The system update is for Acer_a500_7.014.01_COM_GEN2 8.88mb
My problem is all of the force closes I'm getting and the inability to update the system. Any thoughts? I don't have a usb cord to connect it to a desktop either =(
I am a bit out of practice, but...
Should be pretty simple to fix. From what I am seeing, you are running a stock rom. Just because the superuser.apk is installed on the system does not mean it is rooted, but it probably is.
Hit the market, grab "Root Checker" - simple tiny program to let you know for sure if your tab is rooted or not.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=burrows.apps.rootchecker&hl=en
From what I understand - automatic system updates will fail when trying to apply them to a rooted or modded system. Probably why you cannot auto-update.
My advice at this point would be to:
1) Since you just bought it, just do a factory wipe on it. That will remove all the stuff the prior owner had running on it and will result in a unrooted tab that should be able to get auto updates without a problem.
2) Un-Root it. Once the tablet is unrooted, the system should update without any issue.
As for your Play Store issues - I have never heard of or personally seen any issues caused with installing apps from the store on a rooted device. I have seen a few apps that will refuse to run on a rooted device - but that does not sound like your problem.
I would go with option 1 - just factory wipe the thing. Prior owner may have made tons of changes to the OS that we will never know about, and may have handed you a unstable system. Start fresh. Wipe it out.
Hope this helps you out! Let me know if I can answer any questions.
k thank you so much for the quick reply! I downloaded the root checker and it Is rooted. I did a factory wipe as found in the settings privacy tab when I bought it. That factory reset did not unroot and only cleaned out some of the aps on the device. Is there a better or more surefire way to unroot it? If I reset with the volume down key will it hard reset it?
Thank you for you help!
Draight
Okay.
I am about a year out of practice with my a500 - but from what I am think, if a factory reset still results in a rooted device - the prior user installed a stock ROM that comes pre-rooted.
I highly doubt being rooted is causing the issues you are running into.
At this point if you just want to get back to stock you can probably just install the Acer Recovery Manager from the market and use it to reflash a stock unrooted ROM. Or I see a few guides about how to manually restore back to stock over in the dev section for the a500.
Others will correct me if I am wrong, but I think Acer Recovery Manager should take care of your problem.
Hope this helps!
(Edit: Or you can just download the official stock 4.x rom (ICS) from the dev section and flash that. 3.2 is pretty slow and wonky in my experience, you should be able to just download a 4.x ROM and flash, since you are rooted. Again, I am way out of practice. Don't do anything before reading up!)
(Edit again: I think I was making this harder then needs be. Just flash any stock 3.2 unrooted ROM, done. After you do that the automatic on the air update should kick in for you and update you to ICS)
Thanks for taking the time to work with me on this. I downloaded the program you suggested and tried to use a stock rom. When i went to reboot I had a picture of an android looking up at an exclaimation mark. It was froze like that until I restarted it. Now its back to the way it was, rooted and unupdatable.
I'm probably going to try to just wipe it all over but do i need to plug it into my computer somehow? I dont have a usb connector for the tablet, just the wall charger plugin. can i just download a rom and use the utility to try install it? when I reboot it am I supposed to be pressing the volume button?
I've read a few other forums but usually they sound pretty intense...

Hmmm..
Try the thread I linked two in my second edit of my last post. You just need to grab the stock and unrooted 3.2 - put it on a MicroSD card as update.zip - then reboot with vol rocker and power switch to get the system to flash the update.
That *should* work just fine.
(Edit: Forgot the link! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839313 - there you go)
Thankw, I am going to try it after readingna bit more. Do I need to have clockworkmod installed for all of this?

Nope. Just snag the stock unrooted 3.2 ROM - place it in the root of the MicroSD card as update.zip
Power down.
Power up with VOL + and POWER key held at the same time (you can let the vol rocker go when you see text appear in the upper left corner)
Should be all you need to do. Worst case; it does not work and returns you back to where you are now. Worth a shot.
If that does not work, let me know so I can do a few mins of homework and help you further. Been a long time since I have changed ROMS or had any issues with my a500.
I have bricked it twice by not following directions all the way or just making simple mistakes, but from what I have found there is always a way to recover.
Just tried it. I copied the boot zip to sd card and renamed update.zip and reset..It looked like it was going to download after showing some text in the corner and then an exclamation mark appeared above the androids head... I left it and after a few.min it rebooted back

Thanks again entropy,

Update:
So I've been tinkering around with it a bit more and I found a usb cord that plugs it into my computer. I keep finding boken links on this site so Im struggling to find an update I can use to flash to. I downloaded a different super user program which allowed me to temporarily unroot my device. I then restarted it and no root checker says its no rooted and I cannot find the superuser program. I think I have somewhat unrooted it -- but I think the real issue now is the recovery tool. I keep reseting it - hard reset, or factory reset and it wipes everything away but when i try to update it gets about 1/3 of the way up the bar then it stops with an '!' Mark above the droid. Im kind of annoyed at this point and hoping for some new links or some ideas on how to repair the recovery piece.

Go to the Dev section, and grad a couple of the ICS Update roms. You will see them listed for the a500. Make sure they are the FULL update roms. Should be about 3-400mb. These contain a FULL ICS Update Rom, and not a patch file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560
Then, go to the Themes and apps forum. You'll see a sticky that has the Acer Update Decrypter.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869505
Now, unpack the decrypter, and select one of the ICS Updates. Then hit Start. Take a couple minutes, but you will have a duplicate file with the word "decrypted" added to it.
Wait, you are not done yet.
Using a program like 7zip, or even Winzip, open the decrypted file. DO NOT EXTRACT, just open it and pull the update.zip to your PC's desktop.
Copy that update.zip file to your Ext SD Card of the tablet. Don't be putting it in any folder, just copy it to the root of the card.
Now, you still ain't done.
With the tablet off. Press and hold Vol+ and then PWR. Hold them both untill you start to see text about installing blah blah blah, then release the buttons.
If it completes, and you can reboot into ICS, then you are good to go.
If something fails during installation, then decrypt the other update Rom file you downloaded, and do the same procedure. Usually one of the 2 or three should work for you.
Note these are for the a500, and not the a501.
One more thing. It's advisable you get your UID number before doing these things. You probably won't need it, but it's nice to have written down in case you need it in the future. Inf to get it is at;

*Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1 : http://d-h.st/uAy
Acer_A500_1.031.00_PA_CUS1: http://d-h.st/idO
Acer_A500_1.041.00_WW_CUS1: http://d-h.st/Yt5
*Acer_AV041_1.054.00_WW_GEN1: http://www.theandroidcollective.org/...00_WW_GEN1.zip
*Acer_A500_7.014.16_041.206.01_COM_GEN1: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_bk...hVc1RVcHc/edit
The I downloaded the ones ending with Gen1. Once they are downloaded I will continue with the instructions. Thank you so much for your help! I will post how it goes later tonight.
Draight
I just decrypted both:
*Acer_AV041_1.054.00_WW_GEN1:
*Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1
Both get get to the third bullet quickly and the bottom says DONE! It takes like 4 seconds. I don't think the Decryption key of $12 is working
[*] Opening file: Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1.zip
[*] Decrypting using key $12
[*] Writing decrypted file: Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1_decrypted.zip
I try to extract something from the decrypted file and it says the file was not downloaded properly and I should try redownload it...it says its not a proper archive
wahoo!
So that worked! I down loaded the file Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1 and extracted the update. I palced the update on the sd card and booted with the power and sound volume pressed down. it went through the installation procedure and restarted twice before saying it was upgrading my aps and BOOM its got ICS and everything looks great. Thank you so much for your help and I hope that this paper trail is able to help someone in the future
My problem is that I'm on ICS and I'm rooted, but I just can't download a custom recovery. I've tried, and I haven't gotten anywhere

Need Help

I had been running a ROM since June and everything was working fine. So I go see my Trojans lose :crying: to ND and came up depressed so I decided I was going to update it to something newer since I liked some of the new features. So I download a rom and copy over to my tablet, boot into recovery and flash. I do all the wipes etc and reboot.
I get the Asus splash screen with Androidroot 9.4.3.30r01 in the top left corner..
I can get into fastboot and I can get into recovery. (CWM-Based Recovery v5.5.0.4)
So here lies the problem. I can't copy anything to the internal SD of the tablet to flash something else.
I've tried to follow a few thing on other posts about how to copy files via fastboot but when i try it tells me insufficient memory.
So what I want basically is help getting back up and running. Any of you Super Gurus able to help?
why posting 2 threads for the same Question?????????
wasn't sure if i put it in the correct forum and had already asked the mod to delete this one.
