Split Moto X Section? - X 2014 General

Hi Moderators,
Is it possible to split Moto X 2014 into it's respective carrier sections for easier browsing?
Thanks!
Cody
Edit: Meant to put in Q&A, my bad, Feel free to move it.

there will b no need..especially when it comes to aosp roms..it will be best to unify the device tree to build for all unlockable variants of the moto x (2nd). would also even stock roms will probably only for unlockable boot loader. But if jcase or other can unlock theses boot loaders for VZW user there really no reason since almost all right now will b gsm user thats can flash..nd VZW have to sit nd wait for root or unlock for there boot loader. my two cents

Agree we don't want the useless CDMA phones with ugly Verizon logos polluting the gsm and pure edition threads.

As a VZW X user I would like our development split into a semi-separate subforum. Mainly for bootloader and/or root purposes. Maybe sticking us under this Moto X forum as "Verizon Moto X 2014 General" would be sufficient. Just spitballing here... Wouldn't be the end of the world if mods say no.

Yup, the only reason I even have Verizon though is because I travel a lot and I have yet to lose signal anywhere except tunnels.

How does one go about acquiring a developer edition?
Look at the Verizon SGS4, I would say no.

They have been dropping dev editions for the latest devices and I'm sure they will announce the dev edition note 3 a few weeks after the initial release. Check the forums and android news websites in the coming months

I would very much like someone with more knowledge than most of us combined to chime in on this topic.
Why is it an impossibility to somehow use the dev edition to assist in the unlocking of the retail edition?
The answer must be simple Or it would have been done long ago with the S4

We don't have any idea if there will be a Dev edition.

Exactly.
My personal guess would be there is no dev edition released, but I am only guessing like everyone else here.....
Im guessing there will be a dev edition ther is for the s4 why not the note 3. What has me curious is a read a thread about chip bending or binary bending which changes a chip into dev mode basically. Im only read the thread and have ben wondering this since. Plausable? What is the physical difference between dev and regular note 3

I'd be pretty confident that there will be a developer edition. My question is: will there be anything developed for it, since the main phone will most likely remain locked or, at best, be only partially unlocked? I think it's gonna be developer phones or bust for these Verizon Samsungs from now on. We should start dedicated developer phone threads.

Here's hoping they release one. I want a Note 3, but I'm at the point where I simply won't buy a phone with a locked bootloader.
Any confirmed benefits of the retail VZW GN3 vs. the Dev Edition for VZW?
Phandroid reports the developer edition website is up and says "coming soon".

It also says 32gb! This seems to be the norm for Verizon developer galaxy phones.

Only AT&T and Verizon have locked bootloader. So there's already a number of rom option. I couldn't wait and already have a n3 so I hope to hear a release schedule before I have to return this bad boy.

Verizon Developer Edition

Hopefully this version comes out, I did see an unlocked model, but that is only for GSM and Sprint.

all i know is VZW is locked so they better offer me the Dev Edition today when the regulars go on sale at 12noon central time. :fingers-crossed:
Just came here to check on this. Is there any info on if there will be a VZW Dev Edition? I assume price is $550 for 32gb version, which is a pretty penny but will be worth it.
Most likely will come out same time as unlocked version right? Sept 25th rumored?
Either no verizon de or a miscommunication.

Well, that's discouraging. I really hope they reconsider that decision.
I hope that information is wrong, total bummer if true.
The only real reason I need an unlocked bootloader is to tether (for free). I have unlimited and I use my hotspot to run my tablet a LOT.
Come'on Verizon!
man hold on..let the roll out start before we jump to conclusion about no VZW Dev edition.. there is no way they wont offer one. they made money this way last time. i bought at the damn 700 dollar range first day offered.

This will be the reason I'm going to leave VZW even though I still have unlimited data. What a crock [emoji35]
I found this though, but it might just be the unlocked version I posted about at the beginning
http://phandroid.com/2014/09/05/bootloader-unlocked-moto-x-2nd-gen-2014/
What did they say about the first generation developers edition when It was first announced? I'm hoping they are just giving Verizon a month or so head start with the standard version before releasing one. The first Google+ thread did mention that it was just "at this time".
I think Justin case unlocked the boot loader on the original X, maybe it will work for this one too
The newest bootloader on the original MX has yet to be broken, but I have saw talk of the firmware before the last update being include on Sunshine that @jcase created. Hopefully he will get a Verizon model when It is released.
Edit-I just realized that info in my post had already been posted

I bet Verizon is avoiding releasing a dev edition this year because they sold way more than they wanted to last year. For Verizon the less people with unlocked phones the better, that's how they see it anyhow.

I'm curious to see if they offer any developer editions from this point forward ... If they do, why single out the X? (unless it really sold that badly and this was a choice made by Motorola, not Verizon)

I'm betting it was a choice made by Motorola. I bought a 2013 Dev edition about 2 weeks ago and it had a build date of January. If I'm getting January stock in August then it did not sale well at all. [emoji20]

Someone didn't proof read.....

Found this on the display in Kroger today, I guess some one was trying to future proof their ad. It does go to show that android 5.0 is designed to work on weaker devices if it turns out to be true.
Sorry that this isn't specific to our n5, I thought nexus users would find it more interesting than anyone else.

Perhaps the OP should have posted it in the moto forums, but I am not him.
I was more posting it in regards to the rollout of android l, or 5.0. It hasn't even been officially released, yet even prepaid providers, like net10 in this case, have already updated their advertising to reflect the change.
In my mind, that directly correlated to meaning many phones being updated quickly and less overall variance of android version across the phone world.
They actually did a small bit of research and they probably didn't want to spend the extra money to redo the features. Technically in saying it'll run an OS that's not even out yet, it implies to anyone technical conscious that it'll be upgradable, thereby making it a better buy. Plus it's good marketing saying "this phone is future proof and will run the OS that's not out quite yet."
If you're discussing the Moto E, it belongs in that forum.

Just saying Hi!

I got my Moto X 2014 the day before Thanksgiving. I Just wanted to introduce myself to you guys. I'm officialxian. I'm getting into android development and modification. I like to make tutorials for things that I have to do on devices I've used. I have the Moto X 2014 for Verizon, and I can't wait for a root, I'm really missing my little tweaks. Anyways, nice to meet y'all!

Well, I wouldn't keep your hopes up for root on the Verizon edition... As of now it is not looking so good for phones with locked bootloaders as the newer phones are a lot more locked down than phones were a few years ago.
Oh, and welcome!

Still not exactly the same. Verizon tends to neuter bands and very rarely can you flash a non vzw rom to a vzw branded phone. LTE/CDMA differences. Pain in the arse kind of thing

Is this something that can easily be done, or are there hoops to jump through? I have no familiarity with the process, so i a just asking?
I was wondering why I couldn't find the Verizon specific forum... There really should be one before someone doesn't read and ends up bricking their phone. Historically there have been carrier specific forums for other devices and it makes sense.
I'll put it to the forum owners. They make the call on what forums get added.
