[Q] Root KnoxFree - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I have my s4 since last year June and I think the time is come for him to get some new features. To do so, I thought to get root permissions and unlock the bootloader in order to install a new custom rom. But I'm overly scared by Knox counter.
I didn't get well the story: if I get permission, I'll trip the counter to 1, invalidating the warranty, right? Is there any way to unlock bootloader and get permissions without tripping knox? Is it worth doing? I'm trying to do a sort of "revamp" of my phone, and maybe getting it faster and more stable than stock roms!
Thank you in advance!
P.S: My S4 is h3g (italy) brandizied. I don't know if it's important! Sorry for my english!

Hi!
Which model do you have?
For i9505 take a look at this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2852310
And when your current firmware is NG8 or higher you can root with this method

No.
You will have to try some out yourself. XDA prohibits the discussion of "best rom" or "rom recommendations" for several reasons.
It's rude to developers.
They usually devolve into an argument between ROM 1 Fanboys and ROM 2 Fanboys.
And most importantly, only you can make a determination about what roms are best for the way you use your phone. We wouldn't dare deprive you of the opportunity learn about flashing roms and seeing the differences between them. It's a growth experience! You'll learn more in a week than we could teach you by talking about ROMs in a year.
We recommend you read through the development threads and read up on what ROMs are available. Picka f ew and try each one out for a couple days. See what features you want and which ones you hate. Then narrow down what ROM you like based on that.

Oh, ok, didn't know that! Last question: I've read in some italian forums that towelroot doesn't work anymore without tripping knox counter because samsung fixed it. Is it true or with some of the latest upgrades Towelroot began to work again?

[Q] Question regarding rooting+custom rom (Australia delivered version)

Hi Guys
im new to this whole rooting business, i rooted my S3 when i had it a year ago using odin and that worked flawlessly, but now i've forgotten almost all of it, since the note 3 is a relatively new device, i would like some inputs on it,
1. how do i root it?, best software to use including which one, for an Australia delivered note 3 (if it makes any difference, since there are lots of diff versions and kernals available)
2. i would like to flash to x-note 3 v6.0, will that be okay for the Australian version of the note 3.
3. and the process of installing x-note v6.0 rom onto it.
Thanks alot in advance for any input.

Galaxy Note 3 worth it? (Help)

Hello fellas, Im thinking on selling my xperia z1 and for 30 bucks ill get a new Galaxy Note 3 LTE version, so... what do you guys think?
I have root on my Z1 and I love that, viper4Android, xposed framework, etc(I cant get on custom rom because of locked bootloader, thats the bad part). So my question is: Is there any good custom rom for note3? I wanted ihackers for Z1. Can I root the Note3? there is locked and unlocked bootloader for Galaxys to?
Help me guys, I need to have my desicion in two hours it is worth the change? also i have an aluminum bumper for the Z1 theres is not cases for this cellphone on my country, I love the Neo Hybrid for Galaxys, that is a case that I can buy here.
Also the Z1 is going to be cheaper when the Z2 comes out, theres better chances to sell on a higher price the Note3 later if I want another phone.
Thanks for the time guys! Sorry for Bad english.

There are heaps of roms for the Note 3 However, you will trip Knox warranty void by rooting your Samsung device. Google Knox for more info.

If you where able to handle Flashtool, you will also be able to use Odin, just take care to flash the right Stuff for your Device (There're more than just one Note3 out there!)
I played a lot around with my N3, since Day 2 (First Day was to proof the Device, because of KnoX) and it's definitely hard to Brick. First and one of the MUSTS > save the ESF Partition!
I used an Xperia Z (Honami themed) some days ago and i guess you probably will hate the TouchWiz Ui It's an switch from one of the nicest Android UI's to definitely the ugliest , but the Note3 is an Beast compared to the actual Z Series (Z2 not included).

You're saying the international N9005, just make sure it's not from HongKong as there is a 16gb variant from there that doesn't play nice. Also the N9005 is probably the most developed for. The Exynos variants, while coming with an 8 core cpu, are considered great, they are harder to dev for and have a tendency to get hot.
There is no discernible difference in speed so having an octa core is really for die hard fans or those that can't get the 4g/LTE variants.
The only other thing to really look at is The bands that are used, North Amerca has different LTE bands from the rest of the world so you might need to do some research there.
Oh, and make sure BEFORE flashing reactivation lock is off in security settings....
Last thing, Bricking your device to a true brick is REALLY hard with this forum here. However, its not gonna be spoon fed to you. You need to do some research, if you have a question you need to supply information. If people see you have done some legwork and still got stuck and have the info they need they are a lot more helpful than if a post of "Bricked my Note 3 while flashing, HELP!!!!" comes up....
Cheers...

Thank you, Im searching for info before I root and install a Custom rom, at this point I think that Root with a 4.2.2 stock rom would be good, thanks to xposed framework.
Yeah I live in Mexico, so i must look for that variant, is there any way to not trip knox? Im on JB 4.3 can I root and flash a stock 4.2.2(without bloatware)?
Thanks for you help and time!

Not sure about mexican Note 3's but if the firmware was below MJ3 on international N9005 you could use URDLV, do a search and you'll find it, to root without triggering Knox...

[Q] root and warranty

I decided a few months to buy the Galaxy S5 and now wonder if I should start doing experiments with my S4 with root, Knox and custom ROMs
My phone is currently an official firmware .4.4.2
What do you think is it worth to ignore warranty, etc.

restore... unroot questions

What would happen if I allowed the at&t update to happen? I am rooted with towel root and added titanium and safestrap. that's it. Can I restore to the original AT&T rom? I am obviously on AT&T and rolling with the s5 Active.
not really impressed with the root on this particular device...Samsung will allow a ton of custom setups and I can deal with the bloatware compared to the instability of just being rooted...Ive had more call drops and stutters and blackscreens since rooting... no biggie
Just want to know if I can just apply the update or do I need to jump through hoops?
Please understand that I'm "slow" and rode the short bus to school...Please refrain from treating me that way. im not all there.. just help Thanks.

I suggest you learn more about rooting. It's awesome once you know how and what you can benefit from it. Worth the Knox 0x1 at some point.

The update may comtain a patch for Towelroot so you might not be able to root after that, CF Auto Root will work but it will trip KNOX.

If you notice... Ive been a member of this forum for 5+ years... Post count means nothing...while others are posting, I'm "learning more about rooting." Plus, I'm highly gun shy about posting idiotic and useless comments around here. There is no tolerance for such sensationalism..
So, thanks for the suggestion but I'm as well read about rooting as you are. Yes, its awesome...I know. Thanks, though... but The Problem seems to be that (with AT&T) stability is compromised. Worth the ability for me to lose bloatware? ...especially with a highly customizable Samsung?? Questionable right now...
Still "learning."
Just wonderin' about restoring...

(help) 2 Q in 1

Hello and respects, got 2 doubts, if i Just root my i9500, the flash counter or the knox, know it? And the second, why theres so little development for this phone?, only 2 pages..... Thanxs in advance.
Your flash counter or Knox won't trip if you use towelroot method.. Any other method will trip as far as I know.. And there is probably little development for that device because Samsung did not manufacture as many units as the other models so not many devs got their hands on one
