[DISCUSSION] What Rom are you using & what is your experience with it. - Moto G General

Hello to this great community.
As the title says what is your experience with the Rom+ kernel you are using? Battery life, stability etc
This is not about asking what the best Rom is (something that doesn't exist) but about sharing our configurations (roms kernel other tweaks) and how it works for us:
Roms
Kernels
Mods (xposed modules etc)
And the experience we had with those.
A disclaimer: There is no best Rom !!
Discuss only the set ups you have on your Moto G! [emoji6]

Omni, the feature are great, i'm using xperience kernel. A new build Omni from squadzone doesn't goto deepsleep while you turn off your phone, it drain my battery.

I'm using this unofficial rom. Boringly, it just works for me. No issues.
No mods - just the wallpaper changed I think. Since we all use our devices in slightly different ways,...your experience with the same rom may be different from mine.

Mine is something like:
Stock 4.4.4 no root because I don't want to lose my warranty from now.
Coming from a LG 2x this one is super fluid and fast but unlocking the bootloader is such a pain.

Im using Stock 4.4.3 with Aero Kernel! Great battery life and performance!

If you have unlocked your Moto G's bootloader, the manufacter's voluntary warranty is already gone, isn't it?
Or did I misunderstand?

Assuming this is not a specific problem with the nightly: Did you ever use GPS successfully on stock rom before? On a different CM11 before? If not, then:
- ensure you have latest recovery,
- make nandroid of your CM11 rom,
- flash or restore stock rom
- use gps in stock rom
- restore your CM11 nandroid
GPS should now work. It did for me.

Thanks you man, before a flash a custom rom, i was backup my custom rom with TWRP.. i did only for do, i did dont know was can i restoure my stock rom easily.
I only backup my cm in TWRP, restoured my stock rom with TWRP, turn on gps, and restoured my CM, GPS WORKS.. fine thanks.

I've been using vanir ROM as its very stable and the performance is on par with the stock ROM, and has just the right amount of customizations, not too much not too little. overall its just perfect for my use

Glad it worked for you.

Spirit ROM. Tons of feature and look nice with dark environment. Support dual sim too.

Xperia Rom v2.5..looks beautiful, everything works great for me.

I want something simple and stable with wifi working and not draining battery... is XPerience 8.0.0M10 good for this? or any other?

i just got the xt1031 (boost mobile) 8gb version. i am so happy to see development on here but i do worry about the storage. does the root and roms take up? i and how can i maximize space? i know on previous phones i always had a 32gb memory card so i was never worried bout that but with this one i am lol. any help would be appreciated

I like C-ROM, bis stable, fast, smooth but have three problems, the GPS didnt work, the long boot, sometimes take 10min to restart and the CPU Min and Max bug. All this in the last version 7.1
I have tried others like DU, AOSB but have basically the same problems.
Is any ROM more stable that this?

Today, I was watching 2 hours of youtube videos, 5 hours of screen, wifi on for 15hours now and still have 40% battery... so that's exactly what I wanted (but has some bugs and sometimes something FC, but then you open that again and it's working but thx, if I will go sometimes to another ROM, I will try crDroid first

Best rom at the moment?

Hi!
Im thinking about install a new rom to my phone but cant decide which...
I want a rom with so small bugs thats possible but still some features that makes the phone better
I installed this Clockwork Recovery for a pretty long time ago and dont remember what it do
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044585
So I wounder if I need it or just can remove it?
And if I gonna install a new rom, which Recovery is the best at the moment?
Would be very thankfull if somone with more experience could tell me their opinion!
My prefer is void. (2.2.2; #eridanus) by Noejn.
Install Perfect Recovery 4.0.0.5 and try yourself all ROMS.
Sent from my u8800 using XDA App
Okey will try that rom and recovery
But if im not happy with the rom can I then change back to the orginal?
IF you take a backup with recovery yes,!
Sent from my u8800 using XDA App
At the moment definitely VOID 2.2.2 latest
What makes void so great? Dec got rid if his phone so no more updates. Might as well use something that'll get new fw updates..
I believe that Oxygen is the best Rom at the moment. Miui is very good as well, but with Oxygen battery life is amazing (more than 40h, with wifi and BT on all the time) and it's got most things sorted.

It maybe so, but at least camera is fully functional.
So, which ROM would you suggest overall? Fully fuctional, acceptable battery life, speed etc. I'm with B137 v8.2 and I feel I need something new.
FYI, I usually clock the cpu to 1Ghz or 1,2Ghz.
then go for the v8.4 & his new kernel
http://bbs.goapk.com/thread-3177723-1-1.html
http://bbs.goapk.com/thread-3423090-1-1.html
this is the most stable rom atm with good performance. other roms are faster but some things dont work or they are not stable.
your choice.

how do you know that is. good Rom. did you tested it already? so is a room like void with Android 2. 2. 2
i use this rom for almost 2 months now. from v7 i think.
i never ever had a fc reboot etc (except 1 time i had the cpu at 1.5ghz).
everything is working fine, the only small problem lies in the modified franco kernel genokolar used (he modified it to be even more stable),
it has some problems on charging (franco's kernel had them also as i have read, i dont know if its fixed on his newest version cause the modified one is 1 version older than 20 july one).
(u can avoid that problem the kernel creates by not flashing the kernel and keeping v8.4 kernel).
here is a link that i have uploaded both 3
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V99GYVBN
dont forget to install superuser from market or root will not work without it (as everywhere else also).
for the ones that want performance its not the best out there but its still a good one.
i get 24xx at quadrant at 1.3ghz when this void user gets the same at 1.5ghz but i get lower on antutu (3018, made a 2nd run and scored 3167 if it matters) propably cause of the 0.2gz less cpu speed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15978575&postcount=326
but this oxygen user gets allot more than me on 1.3ghz http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16303582&postcount=391
(i have also 1.2gb worth of apps installed if this matters)
the good thing this rom has is stability and everything works, from what i read most other roms have things not working, bugs and not that great stability, miui is a VERY good rom also (has its small bugs) cause its based on 2.3.5 but i dont like miui style ^^ (personal opinion).
oh i forgot to mention that its totally stock (except 1 small app with reboot, shutdown etc options).
i made some changes please re-read my answer

bro, thanks for ur info.
btw, my ideos is u8800H, is it compatible also? and i had flash with muui1.7.3 (android2.3), is it can flash back? ( use recovery tools to flash?)
thanks for help.
yeah its for the u8800H also as i can remember. you can keep a backup and if you dont like you can go back anytime...
oh and flash works just fine, i dont see any reason not working.
there is a new miui version that came out before an hour, try it first cause you maybe like it better (since i see you already have miui).

Thank you very much. I have flashed your uploaded three files and would like to confirm that this v8.4 is the best ROM for u8800 nowadays. BTW, since the original ROM is from China, I do hope to have your help to keep update this ROM whenever there is a new version or any changes.
no problem, i can keep you updated, at least until Genokolar decides to put his work here.
tried the v8.4 from Genokolar on my UK Huawei U8800 and it didn't work kept looping at the start screen, so I went back to using the FLB Custom ROM

PA vs AOKP

Well i'd like to know which are the differences between those roms. I just would like to know if with any of these i'll get same or better battery life than with stock 4.2.2 (which is the one im right now) and if games will run same or better (i don't mind if i have to change kernel, but i'd prefer to not have to do many tweaks).
Also, what would I win coming from stock to any of these apart of the customization (apparel)? Thanks.
Opinions are welcome, I don't want to start a war between which is better, just to know which will fit my requirements. Also, please don't tell me there are 100 threads like this because the system of xda didn't show me any similar threads, and if there are, then sorry.
Not entirely sure on PA, but AOKP (the PUB builds anyway) have some cool optimizations. PA I believe has more customization available than AOKP, and has PIE (some navbar-less thing I believe). I haven't tried PA yet on the N10 so I have no idea really :/
Your welcome to flash one, try it out, and then flash the other though. Probably a better choice to see for yourself which is better.

Wait. is your bootloader is LOCKED or UNLOCKED? You need to be UNLOCKED to flash a ROM. I personally love Task650/Ktoonsez's version of AOKP. The custom kernel they use(Underwear) is pretty fast, but I have recently installed KTManta and it flies. PA is also fantastic, with features unique to PA like PIE and the whole dpi/color thing. I only stopped using it because PA 3.0 had random reboots. They apparently fixed the reboots in yesterday's PA 3.1, so I'm going to flash that tonight and try it. Flash whatever you want to try, just make sure to make backups of everything and you can zip back and forth between ROMs in minutes.

Hey Koopa and thanks. I succesfully unlocked and rooted with wugs toolkit so im just gonna flash PA. Thanks again for the advice! However I'd like if you can explain me that about the backups. If im on PA and I want to go to AOSP (from craig), do I have to restore my backup (I did a backup just after I unlocked and rooted) or I only have to wipe data/cache/dalvik and flash the other rom?

The TWRP backups are images of the tablet at the time of the backup, including data, ROM, and the kernel. You never have to flash the stock backup unless you want to go back to that state(Think of stock as just another ROM, which it is in the end). In your case, you would make a backup of PA, then, with the ROM zip on your tablet, you would factory reset, wipe cache/dalvik, format system(wipe ROM), then flash the ROM/gapps. You technically don't 'need' to do anything when restoring a backup, but I always do just to be safe. A note about the system wipe is that it wipes the ROM currently installed(be it stock, PA, AOKP, CM, etc.) and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED when changing ROMS or Android base versions(4.2.1 to 4.2.2 for example). If not things can get wonky in regards to the kernel differences and such. I always clean the 4 before switching ROMS and I haven't had an issue. If you make backups on a per-ROM basis, you can wipe and restore the ROM with all your apps and such anytime you want.
I was in a hurry, so if any of that makes no sense content-wise/grammatically, let me know. There are also FAQs that are far better at explaining this than I am, I'll try to find some for you.

No worries, understood it. I see it's pretty different than with my Samsung Galaxy S, but that makes sense since the roms have different base and those have all the same. So if im not wrong, I make a backup of PA, then make all the wipes, and I can go AOSP. That easy?

That is correct.
Both AOKP & PA have a lot customization fun.
Individual features of AOKP
More customize on navigation bar, can even add screen off button.
Ability to add extra apps at Google Now pull up.
Ability to set how many column of Quick Settings.
Individual features of PA
Powerful Hybrid Properties where allow you set different apps different navigation + notification bar & icons color.
Ability to change DPI for every single apps.
Pie support, you can set certain apps full screen (no navigation bar) and the pie will pop-up when you slide from side (depends on where you set at either bottom, left, right or top).
AOKP & PA benefits over stock
Beside above list indivdual settings, both let you set preferable layout UI, either Phone, Phablet (stock look) or Tablet (previous Android tablet look).
Themes support, all CM 10.1 / AOKP themes is compatible with AOKP and PA.
Quick Settings customization, choose preferable toggle.
** Now I am fall in love with PA and use it for my tablet and phone.

Performance wise PA sucks. The input lag on it is completely unbearable to me and greatly hinders fast paced games. As for the features, PA is great. It probably has a couple more features than AOKP but I havent used AOKP in a month so it may have gotten more.

Not sure about the performance since I have it flashed since yesterday, but I saw a video comparison of PA and AOKP on youtube and it looked like AOKP was a lot faster (here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNxdhF-nvec). Is the battery life way worse? And will it be updated to 4.2.2?
Thanks for the comments btw.
I'm also debating. Either Carbon or AOKP.
My main question is:
How is the battery compared to Stock after Flashing?
I'm running AOKP on my S3, I did however try Carbon....but prefer AOKP.
Thanks.
After few days running PA, I am back to AOKP even thought PA features much rich but... not the performance and stability.
PA still need more tunes on it performance and stability.

I was looking into AOKP ROMs the other day, and from my understanding there's an official AOKP (somewhere), and 2 AOKP's with PUB optimizations, one being official, and the other being unofficial and posted under general Android development on xda.
I'd recommend the AOKP with PUB. Stable I think is 4.2.1 still, but there are some "slightly" hidden 4.2.2 nightly builds available.

Allright, that stable 4.2.1, which I guess it's the official one, is not gonna be updated to 4.2.2 right? And those 4.2.2. might have some buggs so I'm not sure if wait or try the 4.2.1. I might try it, guess it will still be better than PA in therms of performance, but I love the customization of PA. Thanks.

Unofficial & Official AOKP was far stable than PA, I don't see any big bugs.
They is no bugs of games or sound, don't look too much on bigxie unofficial thread of AOKP 4.2.2, that one was including all user report bugs on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10.
I recon only use the 4.2.2 build of AOKP, don't use any 4.2.1 which had hanging/restart issue due to it 4.2.1 main issue.

if you so worry and not trust AOKP, don't use.
Which part I talk on that customize AOKP did by a person that not even have nexus 10. Really funny.
If not dare to dry, don't try.
Also when people talk on specific AOKP ROM, why you not listen, some more message me to others AOKP ROM not mention by me.
I am using and advise you on mrRobinson build, link had given before in official AOKP 4.2.1 thread. mrRobinson did not open a new thread for his modified version which was base on latest 4.2.2 build. He just post there.

Try wiping cache, davilk cache and then data. If WiFi still don't work try reflashing ROM. If the issue still here, try flashing factory image and see if the WiFi is working. If it is working on stock ROM, install CM or Paranoid Android or SlimKat.

Restore your Nandroid backup, it would definitely solve the problem.

Well, you can customize every ROM with Xposed which is now out for Android 4.4. I'd recommend you SlimKat but to be honest it dosen't have many features due to early Alpha stage of KitKat but they are coming in every update!
If you've gone from 4.3 to a 4.4 rom, you may need to flash the latest radio to have WiFi working.

Restore your Nandroid backup, it would definitely solve the problem.

II guess it's kernel problem.. I try to flash franco.Kernel.Plus-r193-1110-JSS-CAF but the phone wont start at all...
If you insist on staying on 4.3.1, i would like to suggest the below rom:
AOKPK by kecinzer
Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2491689
Download this version:
aokpk_mako_jb-mr2_daily_1310271731
http://goo.im/devs/kecinzer/aokpk/mako
It comes with forked of franco.Kernel JWR version with new prima drivers (faster wifi speed, better battery life). Its a great rom with lots of features.
You need to change baseband to something like .33. Look on xda and you will find it.

Thanks for the suggestion What if i wanted to move to 4.4? Any good suggestion?
Hello, you have to flash older radio to enable wifi. Try version 84. Just flash the zip from CWM.

I‘ve met problems similar to you using AOKP, I've solved it by flashing another stable AOKP rom.
i had my nexus on 4.4 rooted, when i use a rom based on 4.3 wifi, bluetooth and sounds doesnt work, when i flash a rom based on 4.4 (omni, crdroid) everything work just fine... could it be a RADIO problem??? where i can find the older radio since the link in here doesnt work?
Thank you

Well, everyone has their own preferences. There are many great 4.4 roms out there. I could not suggest something that I've had never used before. I've tried a few roms and only the below stayed on my phone:
Multiboot:
•Cataclysm-Nov-25 - by atlantis
•Project KitKat v2.1 - by gnome
Kernel:
•hells-Core-b42 (kexec-harboot patched)
•AK.207.KK
Give yourself chances to try some other rom. There is nothing to loose. Nandroid backup your existing rom. If you don't like the new rom, restore from Nandroid. You'll then determine which rom suits you best.
i found out the solution is very simple....
if you use a 4.4 based rom.... flash the radio version 97
if you use a 4.3 based rom.... flash the radio version 84
thats it

[Q] No network on CM10, LG P700

Hi guys!
I have installed cm10 on a custom paranoid android rom and I noticed that i don't have network or internet. After this I did some research on google and found out that I needed to go back to stock 4.0.3 (v10k kdz) and flash cm10 from there. I did that but I still don't have network, even though I'v tried flashing v10k and v10j basebands. My phone asks for pin code, I just can't make or recieve calls. Does someone know a possible solution?
Thank you.
EDIT: I have restored the stock rom in the meantime and found out that I have the same issue there. SIM card works in other phones.

Trust me, use IMER CM11 rom, it's great
I use it, battery is great, everything
If you use odexed rom, you will need to flash pure performance, because odexed in some reason have lag.
Odexed is stable
EDIT:
Follow my guide for battery

Pa is lagging.
Cm11 works great without overclock. Use 320-1008 smartmax or smartAssH3 and SIO.
Battery is great, speed is great. I can play fruit ninja and subway surfers ^~^

Ah, thanks.

Which is the best rom for the samsung s5?

Just wanted to know.
[S5 SM-G900F]
Which roms are the most stable?
Also which roms offer the most performance or battery life?
What kernels should i use for mm or n?
So far i tried SkiesROM UX v3.1. Which is decent but has some problems. Going to try Resurrection Remix N now.
Thanks.
I'm usig the latest stock:
Debloated, Rooted, Tweaked, Xposed
Working grea,t Stability and batterylife is the greatest.
"Best" is subjective
You'll have to try them out to see what you like the best. Read the threads of each ROM to see what to expect for stability/battery/performance
I am using viper os it's buttery smooth it's on android 7.1.2 and it's blazing fast
Performance?
Any recent AOSP ROM on 7.1.2. RR if I had to pick.
Battery life?
Rooted, debloated, stock Sammy ROM
Stability?
Same as above. Stock ROM.
Kernel?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Included kernel.
just installed latest and its really good (subjective) https://download.lineageos.org/kltedv

ROM? Sammobile (select unbranded firmware).
Root? SuperSU
xposed? Check xposed for Samsung thread
Had my S5 for more than two years, and the circle is closed. Will be running stock with Magisk, Xposed and the Boeffla-kernel for the rest of its remaining life (1-2 years). Most important for me is stability and battery life. I miss the synchronised volume with BT though that LinageOS got.

I'm using

I can make a dump. So you just have to install the rom and the needed apps.
There is no more i can find to optimize.

So far so good...
Yes. But it's an old Securitylevelpatch and some useful apps from samsung ain't on board.
Can you please give me suggestion what to do with my Samsung S5? (just root phone and leave stock or install some rom?).
The reason I want to root is that now phone is sometimes slow. I have problems with messenger and whatsap apps for the past 1 year. Also there are some random bugs where phone freeze for several seconds or just restart.
For me, it's most important that phone and internet are stable/no freezing or dropping (I share internet from phone to PC for work). Also, I would like top
not have so many applications.. only those necessary and I will install what I want from google store.

Try crdroid. It's has great battery life, is really fast and no bugs, as far as I know. Been using it for months now.
Using first 6.0.1 stock rom, and all is good.

Old thread but why make a new one for the same question. What's the best performance/battery rom for nougat right now? I'm on KLTE. Tried crDroid then went with stock lineage and I honestly think its crap.
