Your voice launch phrase - X 2014 General

Kinda surprised this hasn't been asked yet. What catch phrase are you guys using (or planning to us) to wake the device?
Big Bassmaster fans in my house. Will prbly go with "Bartl-do" to see the look on the kids' face.

Ok Siri
Me: Ok Siri ...
Them: How'd you get Siri to do that...
Me: she can't, bought an X!

haha i want to monitor this thread. i like that siri one i have many IOS freak friends too show off to. i assume they'll grow up one day and go andoid. when the new moto voice comes to the old X i'll set it to "Hello Moto" like the old motorola flip phones had in boot up.
Another one might use is "aye mate" in a British accent

Ended up using 'OK Jarvis' lol

That would be so funny to do! Good idea. I should do that

mine will probably just be "Hello Moto X" simply because the phone turns on with "Hello 'insert name'"

"Hello Moto X" sounds really cool
But that Siri one sounds really fun hahaha

oh captain my captain
(are) you there moto
whats up moto
hey baby girrrl
would you please
i got another one for ya
just anything that doesn't say jarvis, computer, or scotty. too many people are going to be doing that and i want to be original.

Lol your right!! I'll prob change it.

I'm not going to get the New Moto X for a while (On Verizon and hoping to maybe see a root/wp off or bootloader unlock first). When I eventually get it, I am going to be a silly child and use "Yo B***h" for a little while, but eventually gonna just use "OK Moto X". I use the OK google anywhere feature on my other devices, so currently when I say OK google now, most of the time they all go off, so this customization will be a welcome addition.

I'm thinking of going with:
bite me

I like "Oh captain, my captain"...
But if we can use profanity, I'm going with "Jarvis, get your ass out here". Wait. That's a long phrase... will it even allow that? Damn. I have some thinking to do...

this can be funny, imagine yourself in public and asking
Hey sexy! is it hot today
or something like that

I wonder if you could use "wonder twin powers, activate!"

as being the got fanboy that I am, I'll probably name it "Drakaris" or "valar morghulis" or something stupid at first lol

moto recommends using five syllables. i would have to think six or seven would work.

"Fondle me softly".

SkyNet are you listening?

I'm thinking simply "sup bae?"

this voice thing is going to be awesome. im going to visit friends this weekend so ill set it to a friends name
me:"hey *insert name*"
*name* "what"?
Me "not talking to you, talking to some1 that i care more about" or something else insulting lol

Caught a thief red handed...

Excuse my typing below but its 4:15AM...I've been drinking..
So I went out with a few "car forum" buddies out today. We decided to head to local bowling alley which honestly ****ing hate. So we're playing there and I decide to leave my phone at a chair in the area we're in. So I see an old ex co-worker, he's 2 buddies and some girl. I say what's up, etc. After they dip...within a minute I'm looking for my phone and I'm like ****...looking everywhere..nothing. I don't forget my phone ever so I know I left it on the chair next to my friend's keys, etc. So I tell my buddy to go outside with me cause I just had a feeling that one of these guys might've taken them.... So as I'm walking outside they look over and I call my ex co-worker over to ask him if he's seen my phone which looks like an iPhone (Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S..lol). And he's like nah man sorry. At the same time I notice one of his friends step over a few feet and get next to some beige looking Crown Vic and acts like he's looking at the tire...I paid no attention to that. And I'm thinking to myself..damn I left the phone on vibrate. But then I remembered I purchased an app called "Where's my droid" and set special "words" that if I text it it can switch off vibrate and turn the ringer to the highest volume and even turn on the GPS so I can track it. So I text it with my friend's phone. Within 30 seconds I hear the phone ringing....I'm looking and looking...and I see it at the Crown Vics rear passenger tire. Then one of them which wasn't the one starts to get all defensive...."That isn't my car"...."I drive that car there"....and at the same time Im telling him that I don't think the Vibrant grew legs and walked over by this tire. He's buddy was the one who stole it. My ex coworker and his girl were in shock that their 2 friends just did that ****. Before even a fight could break out in the parking lot my buddy calm me down.

I've never tried Where's My Droid..I have Lookout but I also have another app called SMS Commander that does the same thing and a lot more. You can silence it, set it to loud or vibrate too. You can send it a command to forward all the texts going to it to another phone. You can get the location of your phone. You can set it on Spy Mode and it will fwd SMS messages to whatever number you want, tell you phone #'s that call your phone and even send you GPS location of your phone when the call was answered or placed. You can even send it a command to send someone a text message and it will look like it came from your phone. This app works great. I've had it since my G1 days..I installed it on my Nexus, my MyTouch Slide and my Vibrant.

I'm gunna b going to the island Antigua soon in January and would like to know if there's anyone out there that can flash an EVO 4G so I can use my phone while im in the islands. FYI: im gunna b there for quite sum time in case ur wondering
P.S. You answered your own question. CDMA phones are no good there. There is no way around that.
On a side note, PLEASE use punctuation and spelling correctly. It doesn't make you look very bright when you talk like that. It could be just me, but I find stuff like that REALLY annoying. ._.
Instead of paying someone for a solution that won't appear anytime soon, why don't you just spend that money on a gsm phone and buy the sim cards for service over there? Is it the 4G service that you want or the wifi tethering you were hoping to utilize?

Do a search for a VOIP solution in these forums. I remember reading where someone went to Belize and was able to mod their EVO to work there. Similar situation to yours.
To the lame people who commented that it's impossible: Advancement is only made when it is believed that there is an answer and that is possible. Then you have to keep searching until you find that answer. Don't expect it to be handed to you. Saying something is impossible without trying is just plain lazy. Let go of your mother's tit!

I always use brightroam.com whenever I go overseas.
You can rent everything and have a blackberry or cheapo phone already setup to use over there. It's signficantly cheaper then getting service when you arrive. They mail you the phone, you set it up and take it with you. Plus you can always google coupon codes w/ them. "15AEREWARD" gets you $15 off.

Even with VOIP he's regulated to only WiFi which is a pretty shoddy solution. But hey, that might be good enough for him.
As far as saying it's lame to think it's impossible, unless you open the EVO and physically change the radio, and then update the software to reflect that change, it is. So sure it's not 100% impossible, just impracticable and almost impossible. But hey, now I know who to go to when I want my XBox 360 to play PS3 games.

So don't pursue running cdma on a gsm network. You can run a VOIP hack. That has been done. The point is I see people respond frequently with "that's not possible" when the truth is they just don't know the answer. People are hacking their phones to run on Verizon and boost mobile. What if people had said "that's impossible" before someone found the answer? Pretty dumb.
The point of my post was that it is not constructive to say that it is impossible. The reason for these forums is to help each other find the answers we need.

[Funny] My goofy mother.

So, for the longest time...my mom has been claiming that she cannot answer phone calls on her DX.
The general custom would be to call her, let it ring a couple times, hang up, and wait for her to call back.
I mean this has been going on since she first got the phone.
Turns out...I was showing her a feature of gingerbread (text reply after ignored call) and I'm sitting next to her...and I call her.
She taps the red tab.
"No mom, ignore the call."
She taps it again.
"Mom...are you serious?"
(getting frustrated with my condescending remark) "OK! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!?"
She didn't realize those were sliders...all this time...holy ****.
Lmfaooo that is great! That would totally be my mom if she ever even got an Android phone lol...
I was raving about the X a few months before it came out...
And she ordered one and got it on the release date, same as me.
She has a total of about 10 non-stock applications...
One of them being launcher pro that I FINALLY convinced her to use.
I'm curious what the appeal is if she literally only uses it as a phone.
No browser use...never checks for application updates...
Silly woman. Love 'er to death, but man...

No issues at all. I know not every pay station is like this, but when I tapped it with the phone, about 7 green lights lit up on the pay station, then I think my phone said "Payment Sent" or "Done" or something of that nature.
The cashier must have seen it happen before, or he must have had google wallet, because he watched me do it and said "just tap it there".
i get lots of weird looks but no one has said anything. its like people are amazed that not only is there other phones besides the iphone but that other phones can do thing the iphone cant

So I seen the article about Siri being cracked and possibly being able to be ran on any device at: http://www.todaysiphone.com/2011/11/siri-cracked-to-work-on-any-device/

It requires an id from an actual 4S. Without it the servers would ignore the requests from your device. So no. There will probably be a few devs that do it for their own devices, but i don't see how it could be for anyone who wants it. Read the article

Siri has worked incredibly well in my experience. I consider it a damn fine piece of software. Mind you I'm no fan of the iPhone. Not because I think its crap. I don't. It's perfect for the majority of people because its idiot proof. I just need more than that.

This was my experience as well when I fiddled with it. In the commercial they have people having regular conversations with the thing like it's the Enterprise computer from Star Trek.
I asked it a bunch of the exact same questions from the commercial and all I go was errors or wrong answers.
Then I handed it back to my friend who paid $400 for the phone just to get the Siri feature and laughed at him hysterically.
If you want to talk to your phone like it's a person, then get another person. I've never understood the appeal of trying to speaking in sentences to voice-activated software, because all you end up doing is wasting your breath. People already subconsciously make the effort to speak slower and enunciate better to voice-activated software. Why speak more words than necessary and spend more time essentially issuing a command?
"View/open weather" -Fewer words, low probability of parsing errors
"Is it going to snow today?" -More words, higher probability of parsing errors
I'm not saying that Siri is useless, especially considering I have Vlingo and I would even be content with Genius if it didn't freeze my phone with massive CPU/memory usage when connected to Bluetooth. However, Siri's natural language parsing as advertised is nothing but plain overhead to me.

If I want to know my schedule today? There's the Jorte icon right on my screen. One tap...BOOM! There's my schedule. If I want to call my wife, tap the shortcut I put on the screen to her and BOOM, the phone starts ringing.
None of this "Do you want to call Worf?" business. (Though in all fairness if a Klingon picked up the phone I probably wouldn't mind that it didn't call 'Wife'.) But until Siri makes better use of subspace communications, I'll stick with buttons.
My XBox wants me to talk to it too with the Kinect. Well I don't want to tell it to "Play movie". I want to hit the "Play button" and enjoy being quiet.
Voice commands for me really only come in handy when i'm driving.

The Siri TV commercial that I always see has some of the worst use cases of voice-activated command. You're sitting in your kitchen eating cereal or looking out the patio door and asking a silly question, then waiting for the parser to figure out what you're saying, then listening to a long-winded answer? I don't want the software to tell me if it looks like it will snow, because what I really wanted to see all along was the weather app. I have all kinds of problems with someone who has to ask a phone what her day looks like. Reading the text message while jogging was the only example that made sense.
This is an illustration of people doing things just because they can, or how doing things the lazy way actually ends up being more inefficient than the established method of input. You're not speaking to IBM's Watson and getting obscure Jeopardy Q&A knowledge here. If the commercial simply depicted in-car use or even dialing someone who is buried in your contacts, perhaps the whole concept would seem less absurd to me.
Or maybe it's all just a humanist critique of how we've collectively become so socially inept that our most interesting daily vocal interactions are with a printed circuit board.

You want something awesome? jeannie from the market works, just download it, hold down the search button, always use, and thats it.
What i use it for, well, i say HOW ARE YOU DOING and she tells me. I am pleased with that. Its funny. I can schedule an alarm WAY faster by simply holding search button, then going SCHEDULE PICK UP THE MONEY AT 8 O CLOCK. Granted it does go YOU WANT TO PICK UP SONNY AT 8? but if you train it and speak often it will learn your voice. Thats why when you hand it to your friend it doesnt understand a thing. But anyway, this is all fun stuff if used for the correct things.
You want weather info? just use the google news and weather widget. Or another widget, its so simple. But if you want a fast way to check the battery, navigate, schedule things, and just something to have fun with, try it out.
JEANNIE and EDWIN, two great voice activated apps that have "the server" to connex to.
