Not Coming to Sprint - X 2014 General

Here's the tweet
https://twitter.com/Motorola/status/512272654032965633

Very upsetting. I don't really know what to do for a new phone now. I would probably stick with my current x if the 16 gigs wasn't getting a little cramped.

I am beyond pissed about it. i had been planning on the new moto for a while and now this crap.

There may be some hope. If it goes to us cellular sprint could possibly allow activations.

If it wasnt for the framily plan i would seriously switch to net10 and use att and get teh pure edition, but 50 bucks a month on sprint fits all of my needs for wife and i.

understood. money is always a pretty big deciding factor, especially something you pay on monthly.

This is my guess, but maybe the Motorola Moto X XT1092 is the Google Nexus X derivative and it will be capable of being activated on hopefully Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, or one of their qualifying MVNOs.
My hope is that it might be possible to selectively load proprietary Moto X features onto the Nexus X, but time will tell.

I'm sad that no one seems to care...

I've dropped 2 lines from Sprint in the last 6 months. Ported an old voice line to Republic and liked the Moto G so well that I grabbed a unlocked one to port a second line to T-mo.

Huh, I just decided to move to cricket, so I can use vanilla international unlocked phones. I didn't want the new Moto X (too large for my tastes) but this really makes me feel better about my decision.

[Q] Well Sprint is giving me the boot!

Sprint notified me via letter today that I would no longer have service after the 5th of July. I moved out of Sprint's service area around September of last year and knew this was coming eventually. I am actually shocked it took so long .
As sad as I am to leave Sprint and my Evo; I must move forward!
That being said, what phones are on the horizon? I will probably switch to Verizon because they still have unlimited data. I'm not adverse to prepaid as those services have come a long way in the last few years.
I am liking the Thunderbolt, as it is the most similar to our Evos.

Nope and nope, bummer really. Not a lot of choices here in Arkansas, especially in a smaller town. I remember when it was just Alltel and $0.25 a minute lol.
When are dual core phones going to explode? There doesn't seem to be many on the market. I want something with some serious XDA support of course. There is no way I could run a stock Android phone anymore .

Wow... $250?.. really? nearly mint EVO's in my area are going for $150. something like that would be asking for a trade of a blackberry or HTC Magic. lol
ok, not to get off topic, but in other areas are people on craigslist asking for iPhone 3GS or 4's for "every better phone ever"?
it seems like whenever I go on, I see someone going "I'll trade my stupid, dumb EVO 4G for an iPhone 3GS"
and I'm dumbfounded and almost willing to trade in my iphone that has sat here for a YEAR in for another EVO...because I love this phone so much. lol

I haven't really heard of any dual core on Verizon except for the droid bionic which probably will have a locked bootloader so it might get rooted or might not. At&t should have Galaxy S2 by then or the HTC Sensation on T Mobile hoping that its shipped with a unlocked bootloader.

New phone suggestions

Hey dudes. Well, getting the itch for something new. After having my Epic 4g for over a year (and the fact I'm a phone whore) thinking of switching from crapola Sprint to Verizon. Network has been crappy to say the least in the last months. I've tried a multitude of roms, themes, but can't seem to shake it. Be that as it may, anybody in the same boat?
Any suggestions on what to get? I've been seeing the Prime talk and all, but who knows how long that will be before it comes out. I was looking at the Bionic, being that I can't upgrade to the Epic Touch, and again the crappy Sprint network. Any other suggestions?
Sorry to be leaving you all in a few weeks, it's been a nice run

Really? recommend AT&T?!?! I've been begging work to ditch their contract with AT&T and move to verizon so I could actually use the phone they provide me.
Just got the woman setup with the Droid 3 on VZW. It's nice and fast, but the custom rom scene is nonexistant yet.. The stratosphere should be out this weekend (so you don't miss yer epic too much lol) and i've heard a couple other phones are headed to VZW soon worth lookin into as well.

I'm thinking the Bionic right now. Was thinking the Droid 3, but after looking at both, I like the size of the Bionic. Why is it funny? it is always cheaper through a retailer then directly. You can get it for 1 penny on amazon. The only downside ordering it through a 3rd party is if you cancel after 30 days but before 180 days you pay 200$+ extra to cancel.

Thanks, that was always a concern when it came to Motorola, at least IMO
Still, considering you can get an Epic for $100 off contract and run CM10 on it, and a SGS3 for $150 via Amazon/Best Buy, I am kinda unwilling to risk jumping on board another phone with slim development prospects, until I hear otherwise. Perhaps if CM accepts the device...

This isn't true. LG has a keyboard phone in the pipeline called the Cayenne.
The Photon is a no-go for me due to embedded battery. As it is I need to use an extended battery with the Epic and always carry a spare for backup.
When batteries were always replaceable I considered physical keyboard my deal breaker. Now replaceable battery is my deal breaker. I'd like a keyboard too, but if I *HAD* to choose between keyboard and replaceable battery I'd go with the replaceable battery. Keyboard does me no good if the phone is dead...

It sucks for VZW customers but also sucks for HTC. The DNA's not selling well on VZW and once the SGS4's released won't sell at all. VZW has almost as many subscribers as all of Japan and HTC getting them and the other three U.S. carriers to sell the One under its own name would have been a huge win. VZW not carrying it means HTC lost a little under half the U.S. as a sales opportunity for the One and the DNA's not strong enough against the SGS4 to move the sales needle for them. It's a shame. When asked about devices with larger than 5" displays on an analyst's call in February HTC's CFO said "yes, in the coming months." So maybe there will be a "Droid" by HTC phablet on VZW in the future.

Verizon did get the Note 2?
Verizon is a carrier that wants to have their way with a device. If they can't put their carrier branding all over it and make a weird commercial they don't want it.
CDMA carriers always miss out/ late getting phones. It's best to be on GSM if you like to change phones

Looking for sound advice

Hey all. I'm coming to T Mobile within the next month (I've been on sprint for like 10 yrs). I've owned A LOT of android devices, including the galaxy nexus. Basically I'm torn here: I love stock android because it's the best and because development on it is incredible. I am tempted however by the note 3. I imagine dev support will also be strong for the note 3 and I just don't know which way to go. If I got one or two questions answered about the nexus 4 tho, it might help. That's where you all come in.
First and foremost, and I may be totally misunderstanding this but, is it true that this device has no lte? Or has that been remedied somehow? If it doesn't have lte, how is the data speed it DOES get? Secondly, and I suppose more generally, what do you think--if you were in my shoes--would you stick with the nexus, or jump to the note 3?
Thanks in advance, really appreciate it!

Okay... Here's my two cents... I have an lte nexus from vzw... it is the best android I've ever had..... The g3 has lte with vzw and I would think the same with sprint or T-Mobile because their towers are sometimes shared... however.... Any unlimited data is where it's at... And I am grandfathered into ud from Verizon.. So I may be a bad reference on this... but the g3 should be sweet for ya

T-mobile USA, you can achieve LTE by simply flashing an older radio. I would say battery life is enough but not the best, you will need to tweak it a bit with custom kernels etc. With my current tweaks, my battery lasts me about 2 days light usage. With medium - high usage, will last about a day.
I would choose N4 and use leftover money on accessories.

EDIT: sorry, forgot to ask, how's the battery life?

As I am sure you have seen by just skimming through the forum, LTE is capable on our phone since there are roms out there LTE based. The phone is relatively inexpensive at this time. Also whether LTE or 4G depending on your area speeds are great either way. KitKat is on its way and the use of Google Wallet is what will keep me using stock Google or at least the fact there are quite a few rom choices.
It's cool to hear everyone so far have the same opinion. I think I'm leaning towards the nexus. When I was on sprint and the nexus 4 came out I was SO pissed that only t mobile got it. Now, this is like poetic justice that I'm able to finally have it...lol.
Just curious, I may get the same device for my wife--she's not into the whole rooting and running custom rom game tho, so for her sake, is the data fast enough?

You think it'll be in October? I heard November--but yeah, the thought did cross my mind. How long is t mobile's return policy?

Well, they are usually announced late October, and launched early November. I'm not really sure how long T-Mobile's return policy is, I am on prepaid and I got my Nexus 4 from Google way back last November.

Having you two guys' opinion REALLY means a lot. I believe I've ran mods/roms made by at least one of you, if not both. Thanks again.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with the monthly installment of like $14 for the nexus. I'm kinda hoping that if I get it and the 5 comes out in the next 30 days, they'll let me exchange it.
