Charge time discussion - Ascend Mate 7 General

My LG G2 takes about 40 minutes to charge fully. Apparently there is a quick charge technology in the G2. Lately even galaxy S5 also has this technology. Do we know if Ascend Mate7 has this too? With the quick charge tech charging a 4100mah battery to full might take forever. Please share your ideas. Thanks in advance.

Engadget says there is no quick charge technology. Not sure if Engadget has tested it fully.

Here is a manual for Mate2 (I think it is a Mate2 ), it has fast charging and I don't see Mate7 not carry forwarding it.

[Q] Samsung focus charging time

Hi,
Its been 6 months I am using Samsung focus. I am very happy with the phone but it takes exactly 3hours 30 mins to charge from 0% to 100%. Is this normal? or time to replace the battery? I do not remember how much time my phone used to do the same when I bought it. Please help :crying:

A few things you should consider:
1. Never leave your battery to drop under 40%. Get another charger or a secondary battery if needed. Batteries have limited power cycles. About preserving battery life read more in this post. Baseline: charge as often as you can.
2. How do you charge? USB charging is considerably slower than wall charger (500 mA vs 900 mA). For me, the original Samsung wall charger takes about 2.5-3h, from 0 to 100%. But as I was saying above, I tend to avoid complete depletion of the battery (as it reduces battery life) and charge often.
Thanks for your suggestion. I am using original Samsung wall charger to charge the phone. I am surprised that its taking 2.5 to 3h for you as well. Anyways, My wife has Galaxy nexus and it charge from 0 to 100% in less than 60 Mins. Is it Samsung focus which has this problem or almost all smartphone?
I take back on what I said about charging time on Galaxy Nexus. I tested it and taking 125 Mins to charge from 1 to 100 percent

Whoa, I seriously doubt the battery of your wife's phone is in good shape. If you're using a quick charger, it may show 100% in 1h but I seriously doubt it holds same as normal charge.
Most smartphones take at least 2h to charge. Don't take my word for it.
Here's a list of the best Android smartphones, made by CNET, to get the Androids list.
Here is Galaxy S3 (106 min = 1h:46 - considered one of the best smartphones as battery life, afaik), Iphone 4 (130 min = 2h:10), BB Torch 9800 (120 min = 2h) and even Galaxy Nexus (140 min = 2h:20).
LE: As I said, charge your phone as often as you can. For me, first 1h of wall charging shows ~ 60%. I always have a spare usb cable/wall charger with me (they're cheap and saves battery life) and I charge whenever I work or have a break from the phone.
awesome reply . I will now test galaxy nexus. I just posted what she told me about charging time for nexus. If its going to 100% in less than 60 mins ,i need to get it checked. Really appreciate your suggestions on this.
Can we leave the phone on charge before sleeping ? I mean is it OK to over charge the phone? Below is the link where I saw this information from
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrcbcm11830&feature=g-user-u
Quick Suggestion:
Another question if you do not mind.. My friend is in love with windows phone. I suggested her to go for Samsung focus S as she needs bigger screen than focus and less than 400 US $ . What do you think?

Glad to help. I've also spent a lot of time understanding different types of batteries, to max out my devices. So let's answer one at a time:
Q: Can we leave the phone on charge before sleeping ? I mean is it OK to over charge the phone?
A: Yes, you can leave it to charge before sleeping. It does not overcharge, as the guy in the video pointed out. It's actually called "trickler charge", and whenever the battery's charge drops under a specific value (usually 95-97%), it charges again until it reaches 100% and so on. It doesn't overcharge.
Note: I charge my Focus at least once per day. My battery holds 80% of the initial charge after 1.5 years. Check my post I referred below and do read the 2 links there, to better understand today's batteries and how to max their life.
Q: My friend is in love with windows phone. I suggested her to go for Samsung focus S as she needs bigger screen than focus and less than 400 US $ . What do you think?
A: I would suggest a second generation device instead of Focus i917 as well (Focus S, Lumia 900). Besides being a newer model, Focus S has better screen, front camera and weighs less. However, I tend to notice women prefer smaller phones so you might want to clear that with her, first Other than that it would be a big yes.
Note: while the guy in the video seem to know what he's talking about, there are several important points he missed:
1. do not leave your battery to heat up, that damages the battery. You can do that by undercharging it using lower power than needed (that usually means lower amperage -mA- than required, and sometimes this happens over USB, as USB has only 500 mA) or evidently, higher power.
2. try to avoid your battery going less than 40% and charge as often as you can. I will just quote this from one of the links I suggested:
Similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge (DoD) determine the cycle count. The shorter the discharge (low DoD), the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles to prolong life, other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery once in a while. Read more about Battery Calibration
3. it is actually important to calibrate your battery from time to time. Quoting from the same source:
What happens if the battery is not calibrated regularly? Can such a battery be used with confidence? Most smart battery chargers obey the dictates of the chemical battery rather than the electronic circuit, and there are no safety issues. In spite of being out of calibration, the battery charges fully and functions normally; however, the digital readout may become increasingly more inaccurate and will eventually become a nuisance.
GL
Thanks for taking time for such a wonderful reply. That clears everything on battery issues. So my Focus is still going strong . Now I will try my best to charge the battery whenever it reaches 40%.
When coming to focus S , It is one of her requirement for a bigger screen than Focus (1st generation). She saw my wives phone (galaxy nexus) and started liking phones with bigger screens (less than 4.7 inches).
Cant wait for Windows phone 7.8 update and I hope microsoft is giving more than just the home screen update.
Thanks again for your help and appreciate it
I just got a Mint condition Focus yesterday off of Craigslist and it is working great. I 'm coming from Android (I still have an Atrix 2 as a back-up phone) and I'm exploring the Marketplace trying to find WP equievelents of the Android I like. I've found good many of them but theres one I reallly want. Is there a Battery Gauge app? I would like to see the % left. Is there such a app?

Adaptive Fast Charger

Hi guys! I just bought a Note 4 a couple weeks ago and I was wondering if the Adaptive Fast Charger would work on the Note 2014. Haven't tried it yet but I was curious as to whether anyone else has.
Thanks!

It will work, but it won't charge any faster than the original charger.

I own both devices (Note 4 + Note 10.1 2014) and can confirm, that the charger works but not in "fast charge" mode.
Unfortinately the 10.1 charges quite slowly to put it politely. I was hoping that it would at least be slightly faster, although it should be because even on the low power mode, the new base has a slightly higher output.
I also have the Note 4 and Note 10.1 (2014 edition). I can confirm that fast charging doesn't work. Maybe someone knows but I thought an earlier version of Android had the option to turn on fast changing. I assume that it's a function that needs to be implemented at the kernel level.

Well, first of all, it does not charge any faster then normal, at least not significantly enough for me to notice. I have to admit, I did not a test with a stop watch.
The second thing is that when you connect the fast charger to the Note 4, there is a fast charge notification shown in the status bar for a view seconds. This is not the case for the Note 10.1 (2014).
From what I remember with my Asus Transformer Infinity fast charge could be be turned on using Trickster Mod. The kernal has to support it of course.
The Asus units use 15v for charging. If you somehow can trigger this mode on the charger, which someone succeded to with his Iphone, the Note's voltage regulator just will transform 15 instead of 5 volts down to 3.7v, the excess energy will be transforned into heat, and the regulator may fail.
I have a Note 10.1. I just charged it in lightning fast time to full charge. I used it for about 20 minutes. Then the indicator dropped to half and now it indicates dead after a very short period of time. Not sure if the battery is fried or if the software is freaking out. Ive been having charging problems before. Attempting to charge enough to do a factory reset to see if that solves the charging problem. If not - battery replacement.
I never had to cope with a lithium battery, which lost much of its capacity. But with most battery types a huge loss of capacity means that the battery charges from empty to full in no time, and back to zero in no time during use. The voltage range stays normal, thus the battery level should also reach up to 100%, which equals 4,0 to 4,2v in this case.
A battery seemingly no longer reaching full charge is a problem with the Android Coulometer. There are apps which seem to be able to fix this bug.
A similar, more popular Coulometer bug are battery level fluctuations. These aren't that simple to fix, probably only factory reset or the unbricking procedure help. But this bug is self-healing over a LONG time. We're talking bout months.
Thought you might like to know, the original Samsung charger works well, but to achieve maximum results you need to use a 2.5 Amp USB charger. This used to be stated in the Samsung+ app. This almost doubled the speed of charging the tablet. I know that this isn't quick charging, but it's worth knowing.

[Q] Charging

Hey all, haven't been able to find an answer for this. So I'll open a new thread. Now the question. The phone seems to take a long time to charge. Is it possible for me to use my Note 4's quick charger or can anyone recomend a faster charger for this phone? Charging it with Note 4's 2a charger wont damage the battery? Thank you.
I use a 2.1 out and it charges in about an hour and a half
Charging isn't fast and it seems that if the phone gets warm, it draws less power then too - so on a warm day, it can feel like it's taking years.
Would have been nice to have had wireless charging support and/or turbo charging, but alas not.

Doesn't the phone support quick charging? But Huawei haven't bundled the appropriate charger?
Doesn't appear to. I've got a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 adapter and it doesn't seem any faster, nor say fast charging.
There's a quirk, when the battery shows 100% it actually still keep charging for another 30 minutes. All tests showed that it took 3hours+ to fully charge it. So quick charge my ass.
So just to update, I have tried charging it with note 4's fast charger and it charges the phone from 20 to 100% in about an hour and a half. Which imo isn't that bad. With the included charger, it took me around 2 and a half hours... Huawei really should have included a charger with higher amp, 1 is way to low.

It's sadly very common for phones to ship with poor chargers (1A and even lower), but then again - some phones these days come with NO charging adapter, assuming you'll have a ton of them anyway.
I use a 2.1A 5V charger, but I've tried the faster ones (that can output 9V) and it doesn't speed things up, so while it can charge faster with a better PSU, it won't ever charge as quick as many other flagships. Mind you, has the G4 been given full support yet? Likewise, the Z3 is down as supporting Quick Charge 2.0 on Qualcomm's website, but then turns out to be only some variants. Makes me wonder if the Z3+ supports it in every guise.
Not sure what the reasoning is for devices that could support faster charging not actually allowing it, especially if the manufacturer could profit from selling faster chargers separately.

I read an article about Huawei declining fast-charge for "battery-purposes" so it can have a longer life cycle. But i think Huawei made an exception about the Huawei Honor 7.
I had an Samsung before and never had problems with fast-charging whatsoever.
My P8 was full in about 2 hours with an 2.1 A charger, while my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 took 1,5 hours.
the screenshoot took from Huawei P8 & P8 Max Launching Event 2015 said that p8 has quick charge at min 21.30 but they didnt talk about that in the event

I think this adaptor isn't safe to p8max.. I will try another charger but only 5v with higher amp that will be safe for sure
Now i charge with stock from 3%to100% in about 2.5 h and the phone didn't tell me to remove charger for more half ahour!!

Charging query

Hey guys, i have a few questions regarding charging:
- I was wondering how fast the P10 plus charges with its included charger?
- Is it compatible with a quick charge 3.0 charger ?Have your tried using one? Would it charge just as fast?
- How about using a powerbank how long does it take to charge?
I just wanted to get an idea because the phone i have right now charges super slow (almost 3 hours) . It would be nice to have a fast charging capable phone, less than 2 hours would be even better! Thanks and cheers!
Full charge completed in about an hour.
I believe the phone is using the same SuperCharge technology as the Mate 9. Not sure if any power banks support it yet. But QuickCharge ought to work a bit faster, then regular charging? Don't quote me on that though.
Anyone an idea if you can disable the Quickcharge function? I reckon if not needed, it will be always better for your battery to charge it slowly.

Change the usb cable with normal one it will charge slowly
Think my post on this subject in the P10 forum may be of help/interest as it applies to the P10+ as well... Especially to clarify the non compatibilty with Qualcomm Quick chargers
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72386219&postcount=3
Incidentally, for the nerds amongst us (is that all of us? Lol!) the theoretical fastest time to charge the P10+ from flat would be 50 minutes on a Super charger (3750mAh battery with a 5V4.5A/4.5V5A charger).
I've seen rates of well over 1% per min on my P10 to start with, although this drops as the battery gets over 90%, but I'd be suprised if it would take more than 90 mins unless the phone was being used heavily at the same time.
Around an hour would be a very good time overall, probably a more average time would be around 75 mins

Thanks, yes! I already noticed this 'solution'.
So far, I can't find a software solution to disable it.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I have done some testing.
With QC 2.0 (my old Motorola Turbo charge 15) I charge phone from 20% to 90% with rate 65%/hour (1 hour and 10 minutes time)
With QC 3.0 (charger and cable from original Chinese packaging) I charge phone form 30% to 87% with rate 95%/hour (40 minutes)
I think this scenario is common for most users when they need to charge phone in hurry.
Later I will add also charging rate for quick wireless charger included in box and maybe also some QC 4.0+ if I get my hands on some.
In my case, I bought a PD3.0 charger from Aukey and my Mi Mix 3 is charging from 0% to 100% in 1h08 !
In fact after a few research I found that Power Delivery Technology is compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge because Quick charge is working with Power Delivery and add a few security technology, but power delivery already have some.
Nevermind, I tested it and indeed My PD3.0 charger (max 15V and 3A) with a anker cable wich support up to 5A is working faster than the QC3 charger !
I suppose a QC4.0 should be better, but for now I think PD3.0 is the best solution !
I second @romain1672...I've converted all my chargers to USB-PD since I've divested from non-USB-C devices and my Mi Mix 3 flies with them.
I believe the wireless charging is relatively slow, think one review said three hours for full charge? But that's expected to be honest.
I've heard it said that slow charging is better for battery life, so in effect, wouldn't the wireless charger be better than cabled, if you're not pressed for time?
It took me exactly 1h45 to charge from 17% to 100% with the wireless charger. It's pretty fast for a wireless charger, but the only issue is that it heats lot of more than wired, and i read somewhere that heat isn't good for battery health.
Hi guys, I just bought the Razer Phone charger (it's the only one I could get quickly with Quick Charge 4.0+ in the UK). Not the most scientific of tests, but it went from 30% to 87% in 30 mins. I tested from 30% again today with a Quick Charge 3 charger and in 30 minutes it made it to 80%.
Sorry I didn't run from 0-100%, I can probably test that more easily this weekend if people are interested?
Fast enough that for the first time since owning a smart phone I never have to think about looking for a charge, even when travelling.
Does anyone know of any wireless chargers/charging stands that charge the mix 3 as fast as the included one? I've tried a couple I had with previous phones and they just charge so much slower
This charger is becoming annoying.
I place my phone on the puck by my bed. Sometimes, before falling asleep, I hear the sound indicating charge stopping.
Then, in the morning I find my phone has moved off the puck. And it is not me! The phone slips away if not perfectly aligned centrally on the puck. It is not surprising as the induction forces between the puck and phone will be opposing but the manufacturer should have spotted this and made the puck/phone with more friction between them.

Bro, I use my brothers Samsung Wireless Charger "EP-NG930" from his S8. Google it to see it. I can't post a pic of it since I leave it in the office but underneath it is rated at 9V 1.67A (15W)
I must say it charges pretty much the same, if not, faster than the included one since it has a built-in noiseless fan behind the coils
