Warranty declined - GPS issues - Authorized dealers? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone. Like a lot of people out there, I flocked to the LG G2 when it was released. Instead of waiting for Bell, Telus or Rogers to stock the phone I decided to get ahead of the pack and buy it from an online retailer.
I picked up the phone from a Canadian website called ncix.com . They stocked the international version (D802). I ordered it for $629.99 .
First impressions were good. Its fast, lasts long, and looks beautiful.
Ive been having issues though. It started when the 4.4 update was released. I started having crazy GPS issues. I used to use my GPS all the time in order to find shops around Edmonton.
Now, after the update, I can no longer use navigation or GPS related apps. I can see that this is a widespread issue. Everyone, to one extent or another, experiences this issue on the LG G2.
I tried everything stock related to try and fix it. Tried thick paper under the GPS contacts, tried pulling them up, no use. Tried using status apps to download agps data, still nothing.
So heres the issue: I called LG support about my problem. I told them where I bought it and they tell me it's out of their hands because I didn't buy it from an authorized LG dealer.
My number one question is, if you know your product has an issue, why prevent someone from receiving warranty for a manufacturer issue?
An even bigger question is: why release a phone that you KNOW has an issue?
Does anyone else support my questions?
This is my last LG product now that I know they release unfinished electronics. Also to know that they do not acknowledge that they screwed up and don't support broken products.

Hey, I'm in a similar boat as you, bought second hand and warranty is apparently non transferrable despite being less than a year old.
Anyway, I really do feel this is a software/firmware issue. I posted in one of the other threads but I'll ask you the same....when I use the Munzee (location based game)app and set GPS to always on my GPS notification icon doesn't go grey like it does with google maps and I don't seem to lose signal. I'm just trying to find someone to test my theory because it would confirm (?) that the problem lies in the GPS putting itself to sleep.

Yes gps is suc** in g2 and i am lazy to get the phone to lg dealer because it will take at least 10 days without phone+its rooted and have custom rom and recovery so i need to get back to stock and wipe all data and then take it to them /:

Well, i got a D806, D802 variant, wich is pretty much the same.
So far i didnt step much in stock 4.4 android, i simply updated my D806 to 4.4 to grab cloudyG3 rom and so far no GPS issues. As far as you havent got warranty, have you thought of going into custom ROMS/Kernels?

My advice is it should be your last smartphone or at least last Android smartphone.
What makes you think phones from Sammy, HTC, Sony, ... don't have GPS issue?
Second note: I'm on stock with 4.4.2 and have no issue with GPS.
Third note: are you running the latest firmware? would you do factory reset and see if it gets any better? or you can find a way to reverse back to their original form. Worst case, root, custom recovery and flash some other ROMs and see what happens next.

I bought the phone brand new, not second hand. Also, they told me they would not honor the warranty because ncix is not an authorized dealer, which should be irrelevant knowing that the phone has this preexisting issue.
I'm not interested in rooting or installing custom roms at this time.

I was just trying to help you by display a few options that what you can do. Choose to do it or not, it's your personal choice.

Refurbished or New?

For those of you that have gone through warranty was the device you got new or was it refurbished? Because I've been having freezing issues, loss of 3G and things like that so I called. T-mobile and the guy said it would be most likely new since the HD2 has been out for only a month and takes awhile to get a device refurbished.

Don't believe anything these bozos tell you. They will contradict the [email protected] out of each other if you talk with more than one of them... this just goes to show you the technical ability of these people. Keep in mind that they don't carry too many Wm for a reason... they cannot support them since they don't have the knowledge to do so.
If they told you that it takes a while to refurbish them because the device has only been out for 1 month, you can go back to them and say "how about you get someone from Europe to help you guys out a bit? They have had the device for a lot longer and still have been unable to solve th issues"
Thanks for the input, i agree with your I asked the guy when a software update will be handed out, he said Microsoft is working on a update and they will hand it out. I was life wtff? But anyone else know? Also how do i reset my phone and back everything up?
I was also told that the HD2 was too new to have refurbished ones sent out. When I received the replacement I was disappointed with the packaging. It looked like it had been handled carelessly. I'll probably keep my original since new sim card installed haven't had any problems. Still have couple more days to decide.
While they may not have any/many phones available that have been "refurbished" (repaired due to some fault), I know they have a ton of phones that were returned but didn't have any issue requiring repair. These are referred to as "NIF" (no issue found) units, and can find their way into the replacement-unit pipeline much quicker than ones that get refurbished.
I suspect that's what whodanu got, and what many others will get. The units get a simple hard-reset and wipe-down essentially, and then certified to ship back out to people who need replacements.

New phone from Tmobile?

So I have one of the original Vibrants from last summer when they first came out. It doesn't matter what I do to the phone, update, root, rom, the gps signal always sucks and never works very well when using it as a gps to navigate somewhere as it always loses signal and the gps stops working.
My question is do you think its worth it to put it back to stock and call Tmobile and complain and see if they will send me a new one? Do the new ones still have the GPS problems? Thanks in advance.
I did that a few weeks ago. They said it was a known problem and that they wouldn't give me a new one. I told them that my volume buttons was loose and then they sent me a refurbished one. Don't tell them your phone is rooted.
No I won't tell them it was rooted at all. I just want the damn GPS to work, it was sold to me on the basis that it had gps and it doesn't even work so it pisses me off.
Tell me if it works then I might do the same.

I had the same issue with GPS on an early Vibrant. I don't have a T-mobile contract, I just use a prepaid T-mobile voice sim with data via wifi (I have a CLEAR hotspot).
I expected T-mobile not to do anything without a contract, but to my surprise they easily agreed to an exchange. The rep went through a check list asking me if I had upgraded to the latest firmware and tried the Samsung app that resets the GPS. I said yes, and the next thing on his checklist was authorize the exchange.
It took 3 weeks for them to process my return and get the replacement to me. I don't know if its new or refurb. I had to send it in without battery, cell sim. ,memory sim or back, and they sent me back the same thing in a non-descript packing.
Again, I don't know if its new or not, it looks mint. The tag inside lists "STA 11.05" which I assume means its manufactured in May 2011, which again would indicate new. (There is also a bar code that says 10.08 on the tag, so I could be wrong).
Now to the bottom line. After a day of testing I only see a marginal improvement in the GPS sync time, but I may not have tested enough yet to know. I'm running stock 2.2 KB5. Besides taking a long time to sync, my old one would occasionally hang when the gps was in use. Too soon to know about that with the replacement.
My experience tracking the replacement through T-mobile was dismal. Eager to get it back I sent it fedex overnight. They promised 7 business day replacement and I "chat"ed with them every other day for status. They basically had no information including confirmation that they received it . All they could do was have me refer to my fedex delivery receipt. As they missed deadlines they made up stories, and unabashedly contradicted promises I could paste in from the earlier "chats". Escalating to supervisors was no better. Basically, until they actually shipped the return after 3 weeks they had no information that it even had arrived.
If you have a contract they may have better return processing options. I had to deal with the pre-paid rules.
Right now I'm not sure what I'm going to do. If the 11.05 date is real, I would hope that it doesn't have the bad solder connection that people have been hacking. I suppose I could try one of the other rom's that some people say work better with gps.
I'm also tempted to try and bypass customer support and write to some higher management at T-mobile to complain. I paid $500 for the Vibrant without a contract. If anyone has a contact I would like to hear about it.
But do the new vibrants have the gps fixed?????

My guess is that the phone was originally built in Aug 2010 and refurbed in May 2011.
That cracks me up, "its a known problem, sorry you're screwed" if its a known problem... shouldn't it get fixed??
Imagine if other things worked like that too. Like when toyota had that brake problem lol

Mine works fine after I got a replacement. I get about 6-8 locks within 3 or 4 seconds and tracks my movement just fine.
Definitely ask for a replacement. I bothered them a couple times, told them I did everything, gps restore, factory reset, blah blah blah, and that it's never worked. I even told them I was rooted so I could try different roms to see if I could get the GPS to work and he just said that it was dangerous to root my phone and that I would have to return it to stock when I sent it back. They did a warranty exchange, so asking for that would help. They also sent me the replacement first and then I sent them back the old one. GPS works awesome now, within 10 feet. I've even locked on to 11 of 13 birds before. I don't always get a great signal but it is 100x's more usable than before.
Get Rom Manager Premium
Use it to put the project V Rom on your phone along with the gps fix and then come back and tell us how much you gave EDT and some of the other guys around here for helping.
I couldn't get mine to work for the longest time either but it's working great now. I don't know, about battery life, but otherwise the thing is smooooth and fast.
Wow, so after all the crying on these forums you guys are going with a carrier again huh? Cry, cry, cry but let's all conveniently forget not getting any updates.
Guess the good news for me is, I'll never get to see all the *****es on here whining again. As I'll be in the unlocked phone forum enjoying any and all benefits many months ahead of time.
It's unbelievable.
Some of you will never, ever learn.

I had the same experience with a replacement phone, received the replacement the next day without paying for expedited shipping. The GPS has been working well, but only since I upgraded to Project V.
I got a replacement about a month ago from my original release device. GPS is much improved, but still not perfect. Fast locks, but using it for driving is still pretty hit and miss, there's just less miss. Still kind of irks me, but I guess this is as good as it gets.
my screen is cracked, though it still works fine. do you think this excusse will work in order to get a new phone? I got my vibrant the day it came out, so the gps has always sucked, though i don't use it all that often to be that much of a problem...
would love to hear what you guys think
thanks in advance!
Totally disappointed with Tmobile. Will not make the same mistake again!

[Help] Non-UK Device in UK

Hi Xda would be really helpful if anyone could help with this one.
Bascially my cuzon bought a Note 4 on Ebay and when it came shortly after we discovered he was having major issues with the phone he was losing 3G and 4G and sometimes texts would go and sometimes they wouldn't.
Anyway we took this up with the buyer who said he would send us another one once he had received this one back. We sent the device back and revived the same one back i knew this when i compared the imei number. This was about 6 months ago since then the case has gone cold Ebay has done nothing and the seller and disappeared, after taking this to trading standards they have hit a brick wall. They are still trying at the present time but they have told us that we are stuck with the device.
When i spoke to Samsung about these issues they told me something interesting that the device was a none-UK device and im pretty sure non-EU.
So my question is this, is there anyway that this issue could be fixed. The device works brilliantly apart from that, i was thinking (Although not sure) Would flashing a UK stock rom work or anything along those lines.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't update and Samsung counter at bestbuy can't flash

Picked up an S7 Edge off swappa. Love the device but having issues that I could use some input on asap as this may have to go back..
Had complaints of several missed calls sitting on my desk at home. Did some test calls myself to verify. Some go through some don't. Using signalcheck pro reveals - 100-105db which ain't great. My current S4, previous LG G4, Iphone 4 & 5s never had a problem receiving calls here in the house. Not a 5 bar location by any means but always worked.
Being a new device I thought maybe verify updates before open a case to send it back.. Based on info I found online, both the baseband and kernel appear to be behind a good bit (pic attached).
Saw a recommendation here to take it to samsung desk at Best Buy. Guy there at the counter wasn't too focused but when I explained and asked if he could flash it he seemed to know what I was talking about. Connected phone, prompted on phone screen for permission so I know it was trying to connect.. This is when it gets weird:
The guy asks me if it's been rooted (which of course doesn't exist yet as far as I can tell). Says his software won't flash it and is throwing an error something about "the binary system is different or tampered or something". Very strange. On boot I verify on the phone that knox isn't tripped and it shows 'official' version, etc.
Not sure where to go from here. Guy implied that if I sent it in that they'd reject it as tampered based on what his computer was saying..
Any suggestions before I try to return this thing, if I even can..
Here is the link to the version pic. Would appreciate if someone can confirm mine is behind on updates like I believe it is:

Tried smart switch but it said it wasn't supported. Never used it before (used odin on previous phones) so maybe I'm just not understanding how it's supposed to work.
I also visited another Samsung counter at a different best buy today with the same results (incorrect binary reported by their software). Then I visited the local AT&T warranty center. The guy there was pretty cool (phone's on Cricket but he helped anyway) and he was able to flash it without any problem or odd messages. Baseband, kernel, versions & dates now appear correct: https://www.dropbox.com/s/09c6ts4y44quiph/s7osinfo.png?dl=0
Now just have to see if it has any impact on the poor reception I was getting in the house..
The same exact thing happened to me, thank God I was within my 14 days so I returned the phone and bought another from att, the Samsung people acknowledged this was a known issue with attt s7e, but yea samsung wasn't able to reflash the phobe either

I'd imagine you could get a new one under warranty if it's a known issue.

WIFI wont turn on anymore

Hi Guys , I would appreciate if anyone could help.
I have a V20 Taiwan model since November .
The WiFi suddenly does not turn on anymore .
When I click the switch the screen just stays at 'turning WiFi on' and does nothing .
I have reset the phone 2 times and no difference .
Is this a common issue with this phone . I would really appreciate any help.
The phone e has never been modified or rooted .Etc.
Everything is original.
Cheers
I didn't see any other people report this kinda issue. I guess there's an issue with either the wifi driver (aka radio) or the hardware itself. You should try flashing the ROM again. If that doesn't help, you've had to send it to the service center for hardware failure.
I have the exact same problem... Sending it back for repair.
@bazzazz, @Frayday
Reviving an old thread because mine is showing same WiFi problems after seven months. Resetting to factory / flashing default ROMs doesn't solve the problem. Just wanted to know if both of your phone's could be repaired by the LG service centre. What did they say?

Mine was purchased from DWI . Hong Kong . Sent it back and was told that it could not be repaired. They sent me a new phone .. But here we are again 1 year later and having issues with severe lag and overheating . Not a great phone by any means . I will be Going back to Xiaomi real soon ..
Interesting, I too bought mine on DWI... I sent it back for repair. They said the unit was faulty and a new one is supposedly on the way. I wonder where they get the phones from. Maybe they are refurbished phones?
Thanks to both of you. I bought it online from Amazon India from a seller of repute, at 50% discount. It seems that they were selling refurbished units without proper quality checks. I bought this phone basically for using as a music player and easy photography (without carrying a DSLR) and this was never used as my daily phone. Now it seems that I have to limit the use for camera and music only. Very very dejected. Further the phone was never elevated from Nougat 7.0. God knows when 8.0 will arrive. Never going to buy LG again.

Hello, sorry for my late reply. They actually fixed it and it has been working fine every since. Oreo is running smoothly too! I actually love my LG V20... it has everything I need, including removable batteries (not ready to give that up yet, don't want to carry a powerbank with me or wait 30 minutes for my phone to charge a bit. Swap the battery and ready to go!)

I got it repaired in June,2018, free of cost as the phone was still in warranty. The service personnels were good and they changed the hardware, probably the motherboard within 3 days as the same was not in their stock. Note the same is running well but sadly no Oreo update in India yet. And I doubt Oreo will ever come to India. I will continue to use my phone as Music player and non DSLR camera.
If I flash the original kdz file, the warranty is still valid?
Does the date appear when kdz was written?
