I am almost certain that the battery of this one is the same physical battery as the original model, and like what they did with the Moto 360 watch, they just up the mAh by tuning the battery voltage. I'm already sure that the Moto G 2014 battery is the same one as the original G.
With that said, I have enough confidence in Motorola that the phone can deliver 4hours of screen on time, but I seriously doubt it can get anymore than that for medium-heavy usage.

I Just got my moto X today,i will do a full charge and see how it will handle thru the day tomorrow. I'm coming from a Xperia Z2 with a massive battery.. i was trying to use Nexus 5 again with android L, but couldn't stay with it for a full week the battery was damn short ,2 charges every day and i still ended up with a dead phone at night . So i went back to Z2 .

GSMArena did their testing. Not too promising.

It is't easy to replicate those numbers.
Their quality of video, their web browsing patterns. I'm guessing no background apps. not too much installed on the phone.
It's the same situation for all phones though. So the best way to judge would be to compare it to other flagships.
S4, S5, M7, M8, Z1, Z2, G2 and G3... all have better battery life. And with the exception of M7 and Z1 (pre kitkat testing) the others have significantly better endurance according to GSM Arena.
Their tests arent everything.. but the early indications aren't too positive.

It did beat out the previous moto x. That one received 39 so hoping the new one is an improvement at least.

hmmm, I see. I also read KitKat is the culprit for bad battery. Users on code.google site is complaining about how on JB, battery was fine, even on 4.4.2 it was fine. But 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 is killing battery. So we better hope that Android L brings improvements to battery. According to Engadget and Ars, they both said that they saw a 30+% increase of battery on the L preview. Now that's only the preview, imagine what the final version will do!
looking at this article battery isn't good, just average: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/09/1...-new-moto-x-buy-a-turbo-charger-just-in-case/. but he did have a Moto 360 connected all the time, so that plays into it. I have a Moto 360, and I am a bit worried about battery life

I already know that Motorola only aimed for average battery life on the moto x. How do I know? Because they are pushing that key fob battery accessory that matches with your moto x. It charges and also connects to your moto x to locate your keys.

Well PhoneArena just completed their Moto X (2013) battery test and it seems to be more or less the same as Moto X (2014), although I don't really trust their test considering they don't tell us much about it, I do think that battery life will be similar.
Only one way to know for sure, hopefully Anandtech's review comes out tomorrow like planned.

? mAh is a measurement of capacity, completely independent of voltage. If you think of a bucket as a battery: mAh correlates to amount of water the bucket can hold, voltage as depth of water (height of bucket) and current or amps as the diameter of the hole at the bottom through which the water (electricity) flows.

Yes, but you multiple them together to get the Watt hours. They can at least play with the voltages to influence battery life.

That article is a little depressing. That's the 1st one I've seen that said the new Moto X's battery is worst than the predecessor. It's not by much but it's still depressing. The other article where the guy posts his battery screenshots are depressing as well but something is draining his battery as his battery line is not flat where he's not using it. I know the 801 should sleep better than that. Has it been confirmed Moto still has their helper cores in this phone or are they just using the Snapdragon's helper cores?

Well, the results i got so far are average , like i was expecting it to be.. I'm a heavy user, so my comparison is with other phones that i own.
The battery duration for me seems to be close to Galaxy S5, i just wake up in the mourning take the phone off the charger and start my day, reading news, emails, lots of whatsapp messaging, very few calls but with full bars calls don't use much battery, i use Bluetooth music streaming on my commute to work , WiFi on, location on high accuracy , Google now on, high brightness on the screen (85%) . and i played for about 40 minutes of gaming , 4G always on with medium signal, if i switch to 3G i get full bars and better battery life.
So far i have 33% left , 2h 45m screen on , 6h 34m on battery .. For a reference with about the same usage right now with my Xperia Z2 i would have around 57 % . And my Nexus 5 with android L preview would have 10% at the best.
I know people can squeeze much more usage from their battery , but personally i never got near what people brag what they got on posts with 6h SOT , 2 days stand by etc..
I'll update the results later, the phone is new, it's the first battery cycle so i think it will get bit better after 2 or 3 days.

for all that you do, that isn't too bad, considering that the phone has a small battery. my Nexus 4 would have died already if I did what you were doing. I preordered mine, and I don't think I will be using it as much as you, so I should be fine

Yeah, i was gonna say that, if what i got someone thinks it's not bad, they can only do better.. On the other hand if i post my battery stats i get with my iphone 5s witch i barely touch it would be misleading , right now i have 2h 20m of usage and 1 day and 17 hours of stand by , and i have left 73% of battery life.. I think it goes in deep sleep mode or something all the time, because when it was my main phone , it lasted same as my nexus 5, a little more than half of a day . I will attach a picture of it.

If iPhone can give this kind of battery life, why can't the GS3?

So I did an extensive test on my gf's new iP5. (ended up getting 8.5 hours of 'awake' time usage)
Usage: Amount of time iPhone has been awake and in use since the last full charge. The phone is awake when you’re on a call, using email, listening to music, browsing the web, or sending and receiving text messages, or during certain background tasks such as auto-checking email.

Usage (2nd full day of usage):
- LTE on all day, BT on, no WiFi at all
- Brightness set to manual at ~ 20% brightness (still quite viewable during the day though. gotta love IPS LCD displays.)
- A few videos, use of camera, panoramic shots, heavy LTE browsing including data intensive sites like TheVerge, Engadget, other tech blogs. No gaming, and phone calls that added up to ~10 minutes total
- iP5 is equipped with a 1424 mAh battery. 8.5 hours of usage for an LTE device is tremendously awesome in my book.
- I'm a proud Verizon Galaxy Nexus owner, btw. And no, I would never replace the gnexus for the paltry 4.0 inch iP5 haha. I prefer productivity driven OS :fingers-crossed:

I was wondering the same thing. I read am article a few days back however on how its extremely impressive that Apple has made all their components so very energy efficient. It is actually quite impressive, and JUST IMAGINE the battery life we could get if Samsung did the same!!

I'm really looking forward to the Razr HD Maxx from Googorola. If that phone can do 7 hours of on-screen usage w/ LTE on all day I will run and buy one asap lol.
Wow!! That is seriously impressive.
Is it because our S3 has more pixel to process or something?
But 8.5 hours of screentime is almost impossible in S3..even with WiFi and Data off all the time...
I know background processing in Android kinda sucks the juice out of battery..but most of the background jobs are uselss and are without user conscious...\\

I think Google is aware of power consumption on Android devices, which is why I like the new Razr line.
I spoke with a Google Maps engineer and they're concerned about battery consumption usage while using that app. He is saying that they're trying to free up clutter in Google Maps.
oh and the Apple Maps was atrocious in terms of battery life. I enabled 3D viewing mode and panned around for a few minutes. I lost 5% battery life in that time period. I was NOT impressed.

actual on-screen time, afaik. (it means 'awake' time)
i set the device so it never locks itself automatically, so the screen was on the entire day mostly.
there are caveat's however, as you can listen to music and have screen off and that will be considered as 'usage.' I made sure I did not do this during my testing.
iPhone is designed from ground up to give as good a battery life as possible and a smooth UI. It is a design philosophy. Android on the other hand is designed for realtime multitasking, battery life and UI smoothness be damned. That's why our 2100 mah SGS3 has worse battery life than a 1400 mah iPhone and the animations are patchy all over despite having a stronger CPU and GPU. There's nothing that can be done about it other than rewrite Android from scratch.

I didn't leave the screen on and keep it like that all day.
I used it a good amount. heavy LTE browsing, viewed some trailers, push email, facebook, and texting throughout the day sprinkled with some camera usage and actively using the panoramic feature. Did a small bit of Apple Maps but that app was garbage. Completely kills battery life.
Where is the screen on time at? That just says usage which would represent total awake time not just screen time. I have got close to 8 hours awake time before with 5 hours screen on time. Here is a screenshot of what i am trying to ask. Notice the difference in awake vs screen time.
Not tying to say that you didn't get 8 hours. Jus5 trying to figure out if we are comparing apples to apples rolleyes with the term 'usage'.
Edit: Nevermind see that you and others beat me to this question and answer.

I've got a few mates with the 5 and none of them are reporting biblical battery endurance, and they would because we banter about this stuff constantly so to be frank I do not even come close to believing you....
I am hearing horror stories about iphone 5 battery life. A friend of mine in Hong Kong said he was down to 10% after 5 hours use with only 2 hours screen time. He said his friend is experiencing the same thing. I did a Google search and discovered many others are getting woeful battery performance also. I rarely get less than a day with that kind of use on my SGS3.

Looks like the signal to me, the decline seems consistent with WiFi to cellular/low signal back to Wi-Fi. Are you in an LTE area? I find that dropping to 3g in areas that I have poor LTE signal helps when I'm getting this type of drain

But yeah... Almost 8 hours with only an hour and a bit of screen time isn't ideal. I think allot of the motorola stuff is making your Android OS as high as it is. I've got mine down to about a 13 to 16 percent average by the end of my charge.
And if your screen is 50 percent with an hour time In 8 hours, you must be running it pretty bright.
Some people don't want to do the cutbacks I do, which is great.... But it will effect your battery for sure.

Auto-brightness drains the battery faster. It will cause the phone to poll the light sensor (frequently) and then constantly raise/lower the brightness of the screen. Odds are, you need it adjusted once and set there. Manual brightness doesn't need to poll the sensor or worry about what brightness level to adjust to.

The biggest transitional obstacle for me to overcome switching from the Note 3 was battery life. I got simply insane battery life with the Note 3 (around 8hrs SOT consistently) so I expected to be extremely disappointed with the battery life that I would get out of the Moto X. Much to my suprise this Moto X actually gets decent battery life. Honestly, in comparison to any other device other than the N3 it gets downright awesome battery life. I can't complain at all about my daily usage stats. I don't at all feel like my phone is on a leash. I can comfortably just use my device for 8-9:30hrs under heavy use and get 4-5hrs SOT. I'm sure if I adjusted my usage I could get even better battery life but due to my work I have to be on the phone constantly.
I have read some other posts with people saying that the battery life isn't good but I can only assume that they must have some app not functioning properly. Maybe something else is going on due to rooting or even exchange accounts or poor signal strength. I'm not really sure as I can't trouble shoot it myself. I was initially having issues after the Kit Kat update so I performed a few FDR in Recovery and all my issues are fixed. Even better, my battery life is even better now than it was prior to the update.
The other major difference this time around (I've gone into Recovery to FDR my MX twice now) is that I decided to not to use ART and I stuck with Dalvik this go round and it's made a substantial difference regarding battery life. I'll give it a few more days to see how it goes. After I get a good idea of how it performs I'll switch over to ART to see how it performs.
Keep in mind that none of my battery tests are scientific. This is all real world tests and first hand experiences. I just figured this may help someone or even ease a potential Moto X buyers mind a little.

Moderate use, little use, more moderate use...lasted this long without a charge. Have been trying to drain all the way and charge all the way up almost every time to try and calibrate it correctly.

You should not ever let your battery drain all the way. Lithium Ion batteries can't be calibrated the way Ni-Ca (Nickel Cadmium) batteries used to be able to. In fact draining a lithium ion battery makes your battery health worse and can lower battery life over time if you continually do this. Best to keep it above 20% if possible.

All this time, I thought you need to drain the battery before charging it again..thanks for the info..
after updating to 4.4 my battery is absolutely terrible. 4.2... id get 4hours screen on time at minimum... holding for 30+ hours total. 4.4.... i'm seeing maybe 2 hours screen on time... holding for les than 20hours total.
wiped... did factory reset... no change. considering going back to 4.2.

Sony Xperia Z3 - 2 Day Battery Life [INFO]

Morning, Evening, Afternoon All (depends where you are) I'm really excited about the Xperia Z3 Compact!!!
So If you're interested in this phone I'm certain by now, you've seen the claim for 2 DAYS OF BATTERY LIFE which is why I'm sure the majority are here! Yes I'm excited about the Camera's Blazing high ISO count and superb IP rating w/ underwater feature but without good battery they won't mean much.
In this day and age were all skeptics about battery life claims until we experience it ourselves, and for good reason! Either way I'm just here to drop some info about that.
The Z3 Compact will also be featuring a Stamina Mode for 4 days and even an Ultra Mode for 7 days battery, Kinda amazing! Ultra Mode limits you to pretty much calling and texting according to SONY but that's probably good to save battery for long periods where you only need your phone for emergencies.
Below is from "Strategy Analytics" who ran z3 Compact battery test on behalf of SONY. Here is a link to the CLAIM TEST AND RESULTS.
2-day battery life
During battery performance testing conducted between July and September 2014 in a laboratory under an active use conditions reflective of the Typical Smartphone User by Sony Mobile Communications AB the Z3 lasted at least 48 hours minutes on average until battery exhaustion.
Battery performance testing reflective of a Typical Smartphone User usage profile involved using the device for approximately 5 hours in a 24-hour period, for a range of typical usage scenarios (calling, texting, web, sns, games, camera, music and video). Default settings were applied for the device during battery performance testing including display brightness of 100Nits and Battery stamina mode off.
Typical Smartphone User usage profile. This involved using the device for approximately 5 hours in a 24-hour period, for a range of typical usage scenarios (calling, texting, web, sns, games, camera, music and video).

UPDATE: GSMARENA has released battery life results for the Xperia Z3! Their test show (DRUM ROLL) 4 DAYS :victory: & this is without stamina or ultra mode, I can't contain myself any longer! We haven't heard of numbers like this since the good old candy bar phone days. I loved playing snake on nokia phone! You can't be NOT be excited for the Z3C! Also click the link for the full phone review for the Xperia Z3 Compact.
2ND UPDATE: The phone has dropped in India! Most if not all of the US bands seem to be supported on the international version as well according to the White Paper
and we have an actual user review on reddit, only thing I found great here is he's the first I've seen to actual post LOW LIGHT shots. BEEN waitinga while for this!! Be excited people!

Hello here.
I really like my iPhone 5, but after all rumors of iPhone 6 (most of them will be true), I decided back to Android. At first, new look (iP6) it's not for me. Second, battery is deal breaker here. It is not possible to stand long with this specs and low capacity battery. Screen and connectivity take all. I really hope to get smartphone with 1 full day battery life.

The z3 compact looks alot like the z1 compact but with a 2600mah battery instead of 2300mah. My z1 compact easily outlasts my brother's iphone 5c that is less than a year old.

The comparision above is quite accurate. Yes, it is possible. The stamina mode work wonders already, and if you ever plan to install a more efficient ROM like Cyanogenmod, I am sure the battery claims will be all true. I own a Z1 Compact ' the battery is unbelievable, plus the Z3 Compact battery will be even better. The iPhone 6 specifications are all lame compared to this anyway.
Sure, you can't expect the battery to last at all if you are playing games or roaming on a place with bad signal all day long.

That stamina mode sounds awesome honestly! The Z3C is supposed to do 2 days under moderate use which if true is absolutely amazing! Maybe we'll get back to the nokia/candy/flip phone days where phones actually lasted a week. One can only dream

Agreed! Don't forget there's also the option for 'Ultra Stamina Mode' - basically reserved for old-school-Nokia features only (calls and smses), with the battery lasting around a week

Yep, it does the charging (I think that's it's sole purpose) , although slower than the wall charger, but since the battery life will be great we won't have to charge often anyway
Thanks!

Post/discuss your battery life!

We were missing a dedicated thread for discussing battery life, maybe due to the fact that not many have the phone yet.
I test LG phones and I put them through the same battery test with 3 topics, video playback, surfing and gaming at different screen brightness.
You can see the results here in Swedish, you can easily understand the numbers in the diagrams
Or you can read the whole article Google translated (turned out pretty good grammatically).
So post your battery results and discuss how to make it better (or worse)!

Ye, the battery time is much better than G3 if you do light usage, but as soon as you fire up some little heavier so the SoC has to work it plummets quickly.
The standby time is pretty good, several hours per %. But I did have some problem with Google Now wakelocks I think (hard to check without root), became better after uninstalling updates for Google Search and Google Play Services and then reinstalling.

Damn i was really hopeing for a great battery on the g4 after the announcement of the 808 chip. im coming from a ****ty droid razr m that dies quickly after a day, with terrible stand-by time. But i guess as long as the g4 battery is better than my phone, its still an upgrade
So after a a full day of my normal usage yesterday, web browsing, simpler games, some minutes of phone call. I did test that chess program in the other thread that ate like 10+% of my battery pretty quickly.

I ended the day at like 19%, then I forgot to charge it over the night, and it was down to 11% when I woke 12 hours later (Yay weekend). Then I used it down to 3% (dont mind the 30% after charging a while). I do have something under Android-System that is using my GPS and is draining battery sometimes, not much, but still irritating. I tried turning off lots of stuff, but cant seem to find the culprit.

I used G3 before G4 and G2 before that. G4 is better than G3 at light work like chatting, surfing, watching video, but gaming and when it stresses the SoC it becomes worse, even worse than G3. Some days ago I had 3:45 SoT at 3% when I had used the chess app in the other thread for a while. The day after I got 5 hours and 20% left because I had done mostly chatting and browsing.
The screen is almost as power efficient as G2 (which is awesome considering QHD and larger). But SD808 eats power like a fat kid eats candy.

At 0% its much darker than G3, at 100% its pretty much same as G3, not sure where that extra 25% brightness went really. I havent had any problem seeing the screen in the sun, not that I bring it up in direct sunlight much, also since I havent gotten it to overheat and lower brightness automatically, it should be a much better experience in the sun.
Zerolemon for me then
Thank you for this thread. This is all I needed to hear.
I have suffered through sub-2-hour screen on time on the G3 for a year now. I have done everything, turning off location, even getting the phone warranty replaced once, getting the Lollipop update, factory resetting yesterday. I have uninstalled apps, left them installed and Greenified. I have done some pretty in-depth testing with Gsam, Better Battery Stats, and the stock battery usage chart. I'm rooting my G3 right now just because I am scientifically curious what in the bleeding ****ing hell is eating my battery on this phone that I wiped yesterday. Yesterday.
I'm either going to Edge up to a Droid Turbo, like my wife has, since my Droid Maxx never did this, get an S6 Edge, or even just get a dumbphone I can make calls on and charge every 3 days, then get literally a Gpad or Nexus 8 or some smallish Android tablet with LTE.
After preordering the flagship phone last year, with more RAM and better specs than everything on the market, then suffering with charge-twice-a-day battery life for a year, I think smartphones have literally failed me, and I think I'm done.

LG G6 T-Mobile USA Owners Thread

Finally got my LG G6 T-Mobile USA yesterday 3/23/2017. Was really excited waiting to get my hands on it since there was no models to view even at the store. All we had were Youtube video's of reviews given to people by LG for free.
My initial impression out of the box was WOW, what a sweet looking device with the glass back, and all around hot look. But once powering it up I was blown back of how narrow the screen was compared to my 5.5" G4. It took a day to get use to this somewhat smaller screen though it suppose to be a 5.7". Aside from that is where it gets good.
LG's 7.0 UI is freaken amazing. You have to use it to appreciate it. I've always been an LG UI fanboy, but this is a whole new level of awesomeness.
Next is finally out of the box wireless charging. No more cheap Chinese sticker mod to use like on my G4. It works flawlessly on my wireless charger. A nice big notification comes on screen when wireless charging starts.
Love also the camera app as it goes in and out of regular mode and wide angle mode on the fly.
There's more to write, but just wanted to put a few notes here of what I though on day 2 of using the G6.
I got it unlocked already really easily. Look in the development section on how to do it.
Any TWRP dev around? Please help us get this to our device please, please, please!!! )))
Edit.....
After a week of usage I decided to return it as I could'nt get used to the smaller narrow screen size. Getting the S8+

I though the newer battery technology didn't need that anymore like back in the day. Could be wrong.
Btw, its day 3 now and I've gotten use to the narrower 5.7" display. I also noticed that reading Google News articles seemed loaded up with tons of more news clips when scrolling down. Maybe they just updated the app? lol

As far as the battery technology, yes, they say that, but because the Android OS still needs to calibrate itself, so the battery is not going to calibrate so much, but the Android OS would need that, just like the cache process.
I changed my text size to small, kind of like a smaller dpi and I get tons more stuff on the screen. I am getting used to it that it feels like my OnePlus 3t is awkward.

Interesting. What I can tell you is that it depends on a lot of things from cellular network, wifi, running apps , and usage generally. I think this phone has 3300 mAh which is not bad compared to most phones. I agree that the software needs to be optimized. I am waiting for root and I'll do greenify and see stuff. With my usage, I'll probably get like 5 hours SOT

i got mine yesterday the 24th of march.
the battery life is good, i used it since i got it without charging it for about 3 for hours downloading apps setting everything up and wasnt draining fast.
i dont really like the front camera, the color is just not to good in my own opinion. back camera is good i like it, no problem.
it does feel narrow comparing it to my g3 yes i upgraded from g3.
i like the features, like fingerprint, etc.
screen look crisp. good, yes.
so thats my day and a half review for now..

I like the wireless charging because you don’t have to fuss with plug unplug just set it down like normal and it just charges. Mind you with the proper ROM and kernel you can get faster charging [at least on my N5].
Thank you
I've never actually liked LG UI, but I have to say, I really like it this time around. Its just overall very clean looking. It may seem that way to me seeing as I came from an S7 edge and even on Nougat, it was so sloooooow.
