Issues with AICP ROM on Samsung Galaxy S4 jflte - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am having problems with the phone app, I had the same problem on AOKP Rom which is why I moved over to AICP which is awesome btw When I call someone my handset screen switches off and becomes unresponsive meaning I can't unlock the screen to do things like use the dial pad or switch on speaker. When I have hands free plugged in I can unlock the phone but the phone app is unresponsive meaning I can see all the buttons and the contacts picture but can't use the dial pad, mute the call or switch on speaker. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 jflte on aicp_jflte_kitkat-5.0-NIGHTLY-20140901 but the problem has been ongoing.
I would have posted this to the ROMs dev thread here on XDA but I need more than 10 posts to discuss in a dev thread.

Does anyone know who the maintainer is of the AICP nightly on jflte?

I think I'll just keep updating to the nightly until I find a release where whatever is broken I don't need lol

I really like the AOKP based roms ... can anyone recommend other similar roms that mostly stable on the jflte device?

You know what I love about XDA forums? The community engagement.

and the colour scheme ... top two. Community engagement and the colour scheme

Well ... another day and another great chat with my XDA mates. How y'all doin?

Was on the 09/05 AICP nightly and it seemed to affect my 3G/4G/ Wifi connection .. everything was running very slow on the network side. Updated to the 09/07 nightly and all was ok re networking. Still can't use the phone app tho.

I wonder when the phone app is going to be addressed. I need to get in touch with the maintainer

Don't spam this mutch... maybe your proximity sensor is not calibrated? link.
I use terminal emulator to calibrate it.

In this thread we will do the discussion of this ROM so we don't bother the developers anymore!
Sorry for this question, I am in good faith, but I want to understand if Drewis is developing this kernel alone or collaborating with the team CyanogenMod (or other). I guess the first hypotesis, but maybe they are sharing progress. Repeat, I am gratefully, it's only a curiosity

If I'm not mistaken, texasice, drewis and the rest of the evervolv crew are working on the new kernel alone.

Can anyone post a youtube of the newest version running with HWA to see how it compares with MIUI?
I am curious to see if it's worth installing...
Really appreciate it!!

I can tell you that the latest version is running pretty smooth for me, the UI just seems faster and I can run the Chrome Beta which I couldn't even load up using MeDroid. HWA even at this early stage is giving my N1 a whole new life.
Very promising ROM but far too buggy for me to leave MIUI for it. :/

I flashed the P9 release yesterday (my first ICS release)... pretty smooth in general, Quadrant scores are not far behind the scores I had with CM7.1 (998 with evervolv P9 VS 1039 with CM 7.1)...
Got the same issues as stated in the "not working" section, plus the clock crashes (to set alarms) but that could be just a question of wiping cache/dalvik again.
Coming from CM, I miss all the customizations options in this ROM. Dont get me wrong, texasice did a fantastic job with the ROM and kernel development, especially in figuring out the HWA part...
But I will surely try MeDroid Remix (as soon as it's new release with HWA comes out this weekend) to see what it offers... looking at samuaz's thread, it looks a lot more customizable and coming from CM, it might be just what I'm looking for.
I will surely donate to both texasice and samuaz as well for a fantastic job done on their part, otherwise, we'd be probably stuck with Gingerbread forever.
I know plenty of much newer phones than ours that don't have a mod that can run chrome properly.
That said, if people are playing around with older (more stable?) versions and want to give some of the reboot fixes a try, look up market id com.jrummy.sysctl.config to set the memory without the new kernel or messing with scripts.
A lot of the CM stuff you might be used to is available from other programs. I mostly miss the brightness hacking and night mode filters, but I found a separate program that can make my screen dimmer to use as a night mode. The way the notification toolbar works is slightly different too. And Trebuchet is nice, but not that much different that I can tell.
I have an issue with p4 through p9.
I used trackball wake on build p3 it worked like a charm, but now when I press the trackball, pwr or vol buttons, the soft buttons are lighting but the screen remains black, I have loaded p4, p6, p7, and p9. All Roms work fine initially and appear trouble free up until the phone goes to sleep. After the phone goes to sleep the screen won't wake no matter what I do.
I have tried several SD cards, tried to turn off wifi, tried to change swap sizes from none to 256.... Not sure what else could be causing this???
Any ideas anyone?

So I got my phone running on the latest p11 finally. It works great, has been running for days, no reboots, pretty fast and seems stable so far... AND battery life has been awesome!
What I found was the CWM recovery was jacking my sd card when I partitioned it. I tried 4EXT recovery and all has been well after that.
No obvious issues other than camera preview...
Sometimes while on call the mic stops responding.. People calling me are not able to hear me..
I'm running p11 and not facing any other issues except the known one like camera preview etc ...
Anybody else facing similar issue?
*le bump*
Please do not let this topic die.
New rom is out. I had problems with wifi. No work around seem to work. I wait till the next version which I believe or hope to be stable one. Have to thank texasice, the rom is super smooth. ;-)

i think he posted a rebuilt p12 in the thread. it might be on the op page by now.
I just installed p13 today, it seems to work fine. The interface is a bit sluggish in places, for example Google Play is quite slow, and buttons don't always respond immediately. Is that normal for this rom?

Try to flash a standalone Tiamat ICS kernel and see if that helps. Download it here: http://tiamat-dev.com/mahimahi/

Thanks, I tried the 0314-kernel and got slightly better results in the Quadrant benchmark (1004 as opposed to 937). But it didn't make a noticable difference in interface responsiveness.
It's not dreadful, but just not nearly as good as FroYo. But I'm not gonna expect any better since this is just a community work-in-progress rather than an official release.

My Jelly Bean Thread

Since I can't post to the pershoot's dev thread, here's a my own JB thread.
I am currently using :
BOOTLOADER: recovery.tar.md5 (from:droidbasement)
ROM: cm-10-20121018-EXPERIMENTAL-p4.zip (from: droidbasement)
GAPPS: gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip (from: goo.im/gapps)
I have a p4 wifi but could only get my hands on the p4 build do to net traffic. It seems to work just fine on a wifi only device. The only difference seems to be the additional phone app and an triangle icon in the system tray. Don't laugh, but it took me a bit of digging to figure out what that triangle icon was!
I am also using the circle battery mod, which for those who don't know replaces the power meter.
I have been using the experimental builds for quite some time now. Other than the known issues and the occasional lockup I am having no issues.
In the past the wifi would go to sleep and never wake up, but builds after 09-26-2012 no longer have this problem. I can now set my wifi to sleep with the tablet, and have no problems what so ever. If you have this problem then try an app named "Advanced Wifi Lock". I tried many others and this is the only one that seemed to fix the problem.
All to report for now.
Why don't you just get 10 useful posts.... It's not that difficult

Please debate the point. I'm now up to 4!
Dude where did you found the circle mod? That mod rly nice

Hi my friend...
that triangle icon is used to be the phone signal meter in 3G(p7500) version,so it shows that you don't have a signal
Just installed the latest CM10 (18 Oct), coming from LQ8 and very happy so far (my G.Tab is the 3G version).
My only real problem is HDMI out, which is pretty important to me. I have done a search but I found only references to old problems with it and nothing about the problem which I am having: it works (no audio though) but the resolution is 640x400!
Anyone know if that's the "normal" behaviour for this build? (i.e. if this is a known problem)
If it is I hope audio and resolution get fixed ASAP since I have no intention of going back to stock!!

[Q] On Screen Buttons Position

Just got a Nexus 4 last week, Love the phone but it does rattle and I take it most people think it's the SIM tray rattling or something in the camera, but it isn't. It's the earpiece grate. If I tap the back where the earpiece is, it rattles loudly and if I hold the earpiece while in a call, it doesn't buzz. The buzz isn't interference, it's the earpiece grate vibrating.
Anyways, that's not what this is about and I rarely make calls so the buzz isn't an issue, I'm rooted, running CM10.1 stable and TWRP for a recovery. I modified the build.prop to allow lockscreen rotation and now I am wondering about rotating the on screen buttons. On my Nexus 7 when I hold the tablet in landscape the buttons rotate to the bottom of the screen, but with the Nexus 4 they stay on the side and just rotate the actual button images, as if you were holding a phone with capacitive buttons.
I'm basically wondering if there is something I can, preferably in build.prop, so that the buttons rotate to the bottom of the screen, because I'm so used to that from my N7 that having them on the side is weird and annoying.
I saw AOKP has that feature, but CM doesn't. You may consider switching to AOKP. If not, try to find a mod or something.

I prefer the stock feel of CM10.1 with minimum customization. I don't like Paranoid, AOKP or PAC so I won't switch, I was hoping someone might direct me to a mod. I did see one for the Galaxy Nexus, but it involved some heavy framework modifications, which I can do, but I'd like one intended for the Nexus 4.
Umm when I ran paranoid android with phablet ui buttons were at bottom but I don't know any way else

not to polute your cornflakes but thats a pretty wild assumption you have there. pac, maybe, but all the other roms? its either the same or less. cm isn't minimal, they have the heaviest framework of all because that rom needs to run on legacy devices. a nexus rom comes with a stock aosp image and extends it. same goes for the features, cm has ALOT and much or most of it is not stock and/or does not follow the principles that make stock what it is. im kinda used by these statements and im willing to bet thats your first nexus because in that case you should take what you know about roms and flip it upside down - things are *very* different on this platform, if not opposite.

It's not my first Nexus device and clearly you have no idea what I meant. Have you seen the number of options and features in Paranoid Android? AOKP? PAC?
My point is, is that CyanogenMod is the original custom ROM and all of these other ROMs somehow borrow from CyanogenMod and all of them, except maybe AOKP, have more features than I'd ever use and I don't want them on my device. I also own a Nexus 7 which is rooted, running the latest CyanogenMod build with the latest TWRP and bootloader and it does exactly what I asked for in this thread, so I was wondering if it's possible to do the same on my Nexus 4.
If you compare the degree of customization provided by AOKP, PAC and PA with CM you'll notice that CM lacks plenty of features, which doesn't bother me in the least because I don't use most of them. I'd also like to know what you mean about CyanogenMod being made for legacy devices affecting all builds of CyanogenMod, seeing as how CM builds are cooked from the stock device sources and Cyanogenmod sources, AKA exactly what you just said...
I think moles knows a little something about ROMs

No bugs at all.
I don't meet any bugs at all. I've been using it for 2 days.
No camera or headphone bugs too.
Everything is alright.
But I could not find "show connection speed" button and "darkUI" button.

CM11 doesn't have those features normally
1) Flash the ROM without GAPP.
2) Boot and make sure you can get to the home screen.
3) Reboot and Flash GAAP.
4) Clear cache and data.
1. SystemUI crashes randomly not very frequent though.
2. Lockscreen freezes and needs reboot to fix..
3. Auto Brightness is not dark to my expectations in dark..i know i can use apps to bring it my liking but sharing just my thoughts..
Testing More....
4. Ghost touch is still on this ROM..just as Morkee, i am not sure if i am the only one..
5. Systemui is crashing more frequently now..
Download link has been removed...??
Any updates to the issues mentioned above..is anyone else facing the some/all/additional issues please report
+1 bro, im facing same problem

Point is that its a pain to sort through all pages and links, and a bit confusing to find the latest build/ least bugs/ patches etc. IMO I think OP should update his first post accordingly.
yeah, I think it's much better to open a thread for each ROM. It's a huge mess and often you don't know to what ROM the comments refer to.
btw, is this rom multi-language?
And what does "quite stable" mean?
I recommend flashing this rom. It's way more solid than the miui dev roms.
+1 for having a new, separate thread to discuss this rom specifically. Not sure why that guy is complaining.

Spurious processes running in the background.
What is system server running in the background, there seems to be a few extra processes running not in the official cm12.1 i was running on my s5 before i bought the note 2
Idk, u can try removing them with titanium backup
Wow glad I finally decided to check back to see some more roms for this phone. I had been using one of the first aosp roms for this phone without vibrate. While it was working fine, I did miss the vibrate function. Checked back and saw this one and it looked pretty damn good. Installed it with no issues at all and so far it is working perfectly.
Can't connect to web with data connection. Only WiFi.
I'm kind of surprised this thread did not get any bigger. Seems a lot of people have overlooked a really good rom. I've been using this rom for 6 months now and I still have 0 problems with it. Don't know how much longer this phone is going to last but it's still chuggin along. Did have to finally replace the battery as it developed a bulge in it (got this phone when it first came out so it's been while). Other than that I'm good. This rom is solid.
