These 3 tablets need their own sub-forum - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I have the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, and I must admit it is difficult to search for threads specific to this device, mostly because the threads are so generic for what is 3 different models (7" 8" & 10.1"). Even the processors are different, which could get people into trouble.
I've already requested a Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 forum. It makes sense since there is already a Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 forum. But I am curious to know member thoughts as to if there really is a need or I am just missing something.

You are not missing one thing here. There really does need to be separate forums for each size of Galaxy Tab 4 series of tablets. I've got the 8" model and I'd really love a forum just for that tablet. Tab 2 and Tab 3 have forums for each size why shouldn't the Tab 4 tablets be any different?

Later on they probably will, but there are just way to many models and new users will post all over the place in the wrong sections.

True, but by having only 1 forum the stuff is all over the place. Might as well start off split up so that people don't get confused. It would be consistent with other versions.

I fully support. The time has come to make a division

hi folks
we understand you want separate forums for the different versions (3,4 etc)
we split the forums based on several factors , not least of which is popularity and interest.
we'll monitor the traffic and flag your request to the admins as things get busier. at that stage a decision will be made as to if we split the forums.

Thank you very much .

I agree there should be separate threads for each device - I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8". Each device has different specs.

Discussing this request with one of the forum mods for this section. :highfive:

i second the wish for seperate (sub-?) forums!
As far as i understand it the different Tab 4 models have such a different hardware base, dont they?
So topics like firmeware, recoveries and even rooting only work with specific models.. .

I second your second!

I agree! I'm already filtering based on LTE carrier, and having other sizes available too makes it harder..

I hope mods will open subforum for 7.0, 8.0, and 10.1 versions of galaxy tab4.

Hi,
Mods/Admins... it's time i think.

The concept of only separating these devices based on popularity is completely backwards.
It would have taken an additional 2 minutes to create the sub-forums in the beginning, now it will take days to separate out the relevant posts.
It's disappointing.

[Ref] Note 2 Dev List the Unofficial.

This is the unofficial thread to find the list of developers for the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
If you are a developer and or ROM maker/cooker would like to confirm that you are going to dev on this device please send me a pm, and I will add you to the list. In past experiences these types of threads have shown to be very helpful to build dev support for a device, and also to help people decide on a device.
What, actually is the list for?
Basically its for people and devs to see all the dev support the device will have. This sometimes is the deciding factor for getting a phone. If there's huge dev support more people will come. This makes it easier for people to find information on what devs will be supporting the note 2.
To pm me and get added to the list Click Here.

Hi,
Thanks for starting this thread. I just want to ask "Do you think there be a lot of development for this phone?" Particularly for Note II, in general for future Samsung phones.
I just finished watching this video here or here and I just heard about some developers leaving Samsung altogether? Samsung locking bootloaders? Samsung getting too big for their own ego?
I currently own the Int'l N7000 and I found the development to be good for what I want. I didn't check out the i717 thread but I assume they are fair.
I'm not really experienced in rooting but I found Samsung Note to be fairly straight forward. I recently rooted an HTC Amaze 4G and the numerous steps plus the lack of info made me never to buy an HTC phone (even if I do like the HTC One X, my friend has the North American version and he said development is low there).
This is one reason why I'm holding out on the Note II until Feb 2013, maybe even Sept 2013 (in case Note 3) comes out because I want to see how the development plays out.
I know the phone just came out, but I assumed International Note development should be all hunky dory but I never know. Makes me not want to switch devices. I had an Int'l Galaxy S2 previously and development for that is great!
I hear Sony development is awesome. But then, I think I'll just go get a Nexus for ease of development (but the screen is so small!)
What do you guys think?

thanks leafsacc, I wasn't aware of this until now. I'm still not sure what's going on but I assumed there would be a way around a bootloader, as coders always find a way :highfive:
but reading the below, says it could have been verizon which was the cause of the bootloader, not samsung. so why is xdadevtv directing his video to samsung? is it because no open source was given for the s3? has it still not been released? will it be? anyone care to sum it up for some of us who aren't in the know? :>
Based on Samsung’s track record of always shipping devices with unlocked bootloaders, we can all safely deduce that Verizon is the one to blame here.

For starters cm will not support n7100 if samsung dont change their ways. atleast the current dev team in cm will not support newer samsung exynos devices. i9300/n80xx was the last. Only way to get n7100 supported is if samsung cooperate or a new dev join cm dev team.
Without cm support i cannot do my paranoidandroid from source as I do with n7000. Time will tell if some new dev join cm samsung team or samsung get their act together. Dont look good though.

Well I don't get it because it is sharing most of the hardware with S3 so the stuff should be at least ported easily.

You still need one of the dev maintaining exynos devices to buy n7100 and then maintaining it... we can hope for someone to step up but its their freetime and money. Entropy512 told me he would be buying at&t version which is nearly identical if samsung would change their behavior. All we can do for now is to sit and wait...

This is a great thread. I hope more chefs will chime in.
I am considering a Note II but it is absolutely vital that CM is developed for it, together with Paranoid Android. Especially since Key Lime Pie (CM11?) is be around the corner.
I also think it is important with AOSP/AOKP development for it.
So I hope the issue will be sorted during this month. If not, I am afraid that I have to consider a different game plan.
Buying a device without proper developer support is a no go for me.
For everyone woundering about my sources here is a statement from Entropy512:
Entropy512 said:
Not likely to happen. If CM comes to the Note 2, it will only be if a new maintainer steps up.
Most of the current Exynos maintainer team (myself, espenfjo, codeworkx) and others have all decided that our current devices will be our last non-Nexus Exynos devices. I'm not sure about xplodwild, but I have a feeling he's highly unlikely to take up another Haxxinos with the rest of us gone and given his prior experiences with it.
If Samsung changes their attitude towards developers, this might change, but their attitude lately (zero documentation, zero platform source code, a trend towards bootloader locking - Only the Verizon S3 has a locked bootloader now, but Samsung has had the infrastructure in place since the S2 and they are constantly adding more checks) has led to the current Exynos maintainer team deciding that enough is enough. I don't think any of us are going to do anything to make Samsung's Exynos devices more attractive to any particular market segment until they provide assistance (in the form of technical documentation and source code) in return. I don't know about the others, but if they offer me a free device I'll say no - I refuse to participate in a PR stunt like the I9100 donations were.
Pretty much the only way I'll go back is if I see reference platform source that is up to the same standards as CAF and omapzoom, or they actually start providing real documentation and source code for the devices I'm currently working with.

Thanks entwicklun,
I Googled "verizon locked bootloader samsung galaxy note" and from what I understand that it was Verizon's request to lock the bootloader. Not sure what I would do if I was Samsung but my guess is, if it helps sell more phones on Verizon then lock the boot loader. Money talks, right?
But then I'm hearing news about Samsung not giving developers this and that, just like the example below.

And I also need a phone that will have Paranoid Android (and the odd CM here and there), but it must also a 5" phablet. I guess there is nothing wrong with my current Note, but again by searching on Google there's a possibility that the "next big thing" might be the HTC Google Nexus X+. If that has an expansion card slot, that's it, I'm not getting the Note 2.

I've already ordered my note 2, but I would fully support the dev crew. even if that means selling my note 2 at a loss and buying what's being developed, pending though. I do like phablets and if the x+ doesn't have an exspansion slot then I probably wouldn't buy it.
I also hope aokp devs on the note 2. I certainly love their ROMS

Utacka sir is so kind to us all in his PA thread
Anyways, I think devving for this device would initially start with kanged TW based ROMs. With CM wary on supporting the device, it does seem a bit dark but hey, I am sure there are others to step up.

I am the same, an expansion card slot is a big plus.
development support is also a big factor.
I would flash aokp right now but i'm so scared of emmc bug (which I assume will not be in the Note 2 just like it did not exist in GB ROM Notes. But who knows if "Key Lime Pie/Kandy Kane" might have a similar brick bug) on ICS kangs that I just stay far, far, away.
My ultimate fav is CassiesXtraLite so it's good to see thering1975 on the list.

This Forum is Fast Becoming a Ghost Town

This past week, I noticed a dramatic decrease in forum activity. Perhaps many have already jump shipped to the N4. Whatever the reason, I hope there is still significant development and support until the new S4 is released. It was a short and sweet run as the best Android device. :crying:
Stop the drama.
Reported, activity is as usual.
Yeah noticed this also S1 & S2 forum's was significantly more active and still are to some degree than the S3 one.
Think it's down to a number of factors ie variations of the S3 doesn't help, alot jump ship to the LTE version when that was release, plus the Galaxy Note 2 & now the Nexus 4 as you said.
The Galaxy I9300 is no longer the top dog of smartphone, so intrest isn't there as much as past Galaxy Smartphones.

I remember the days when i had a Galaxy S1 and the forums were crowded!
It had countless roms and kernels! Not that we don't have enough here but there's no comparison...
I jumped ship from an I9300 to N7100.
The only thing I regret not having is the activity on the forum!
That... and Siyah dualboot!
All these freaking model variations are just gonna ruin everything because if you an early adopter maybe 2 months later another model with more Ram comes along and obviously everyone wants that and it has 10 months to build up a bigger scene and kill off any work done on the original.
I mean I was almost certain I was gonna get the S4 on release day but now things aren't as black & white as they where for S1 & S2.

the s2 is too old but still good.

Still not sufficient. A 650€ flagship should be supported more than 2 years and 2 poor versions. Ics & JB...
Or at least let the community do their job...
I totally agree, and don't understand the attitude of some people here... I didn't buy the phone just to replace it at the end of contract. It's still working perfect and I don't see the need for a replacement. Samsung should just let the community handle the updates if they are to lazy to do it themselves.
S2 till it dies, and when it does, another s2.
Fu*k it, I'll buy a couple s2 when they get 300 bucks cheap here (It's still at 600 bucks unbranded, 400 branded, crazy).

Ok, chill out now, no need to get sentimental.
I really wanna see 5.0 and what it's all about, I'm somewhat skeptical on the gigant upgrade that would represent against JB.
If a couple of devs make it work with no issues on their ROMs I don't see why we can't lobby up and ask for that update.
I mean, samsung devs vs xda devs...I'm sticking with our troops.
One thing's for sure, if the galaxy nexus gets it, I'll burn tires right in front of Samsung.

that's too bad..
Yes, if Samsung would now release all the sources (required by the license) we could keep upgrading our devices on our own. The S2 community has done a fabulous job, and we would get some disaffected devs back if we had all the sources. This is still a great phone. I'd hazard to say that there aren't many (any?) other 2 year old phones that still run this well on the "latest" software. I agree it might be still going strong in 4 years. Due to Samsung's intransigence however I think my next has to be Nexus. But it's hard to justify giving this up. Despite a faded screen, and reduced capacity of the battery, it still screams smoothly!

Note 4 Bootloader Unlock Now a Very Real Possibility!

I know, right? We really need some good news with this device, especially since Verizon is holding back updates from us that fix a lot of the issues with the phone. Unlocked bootloader would be the best thing ever. I just hope the guy who found this decides to release it, it seems some users have given him trouble over it. Annoying him won't help.
Please do more research guys. This has been debunked lots of times. The person that found the exploit said it wouldn't work on Verizon note 4.

Would you mind showing me where he has stated this? Because I have a feeling you didn't even look at what I've linked. Would be quite remarkable for this to be "debunked lots of times" in just the 4 or 5 weeks it's been publicly shared. This is a brand new exploit affecting pretty much every device running a Snapdragon 805. He explicitly names the Note 4 as a vulnerable device, and he successfully unlocked the Droid Turbo with the exploit.
What's the point of having a unlock bootloader. I a note 4 DE and there's barley any development. I'm pretty sure a lot of devs had moved on.

He explicitly names the Note 4 as a vulnerable device, and he successfully unlocked the Droid Turbo with the exploit.

I have a feeling you didn't bother to click page 2 of the Verizon note 4 General forum. If you did you would see there has already been 2 threads about this, so why you make another.
The 2 developers have already said twice this won't work. Not sure where it was mentioned but it was thrust me.

Yet I find nothing from the actual developers that found the exploit, which was your claim.

Old vs New Galaxy Note 8

Did Samsung really have a Galaxy Note 8 from several years ago and now a 2017 version? It seems from the forum postings this is so but I can wrap my brain around reusing the same model number so close together.
Yes, I believe it was a tablet; the smaller (8") version of the Note 10.1. It would be nice if the naming convention of these devices was more consistent as to not confuse people, but I'm not sure which way is better and it seems that neither do the manufacturers.

Two diff devices. The Note 8.0 is this thread, and it is a tablet, unless you are in the UK, which is a phablet.
No comparisons, yet newbies want to post threads here without taking notice the device shown for reference and the bazillions of posts are older than the new Note 8.
Most all here know and state their devices by model number and have used Note 8.0 not Note 8 as a name, unless they are lazy and don't type the .0 at the end.
