Kindly anybody tell me the softwares to download for rooting droid razr m and how to root it i am new to droid razr m
Towel root Google it... Install the apk and click make it rain

Update to kitkat enable installs from third party in settings go to towelroot.com download the file on your phone and install it. Run it and click make it rain. Then download moto apocalypse apk and run it to unlock your boot loader as well.

would i be able to unlock bootloader after updating to kitkat ??
thanks for your reply one more thing i would like to ask is wheather i would be able to root and unlock after i have updated to kitkat ?? i am asking this questio because sloosecannon in his thread "[How-To][tutorial] Bootloader Unlock, Custom Recovery Razr M" has said "----IMPORTANT NOTE:----
IF you are on the latest OTA and have NOT unlocked, it is impossible at this time to unlock. It may be possible in the future if someone finds another exploit, but not likely. Basically, if you updated without researching (that's why you shouldn't do that) or got a new one after the OTA"
That topic hasn't been updated in some time... As @mrkhigh said yes go ahead and update to KitKat 4.4.2 (as long as its 182/183.46.10) and root/unlock it... If you run into any issues with the ota check back in here and we'll get you the links to rsd lite and firmware...
We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.
If it seems too easy you did it right.
The entire process should take 2 minutes. That's with the phone reboot and the boot loader unlock.

where can I get the factory image for that update? It's years later and I'm desperate to get off of jellybean and get the bootloader unlocked.
Look up restoring/upgrading with rsd light
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55282645
It's all in the first post read it all the second link on rsd has the firmware I checked...
We just achieved a new root method like yesterday, but just do things normal upgrade to .10 NOT .15 then run towelroot then motoapokalypse.apk (spelling I'm sure is wrong) if you update to .15 you most likely will never have an unlocked boot loader

Towelroot does not work on kernels newer than July of 2014...

Good morning everybody.
This has been discussed as a side item in a few topics, but I wanted to make this topic to get a definitive answer on the issue that people could refer to.
For those that do not know, the RAZR M has a root checker in the recovery menu. The values it can report are as follows (test in parenthesis are descriptive and not reported on the device) :
qe 0/0 (never rooted)
qe 1/1 (currently rooted)
qe 0/1 (not currently rooted, but has been rooted in the past)
It is that last report that is most concerning: even once root is removed Verizon/Motorola can still see that the device has been rooted at some time. A factory reset does not reset the checker to 0/0, but there are some reports that using a flashing file with RSDLite and restoring the phone will (in case you need to send in the phone for warranty work).
Is anyone able to personally verify that restoring by flashing will actually revert the check to 0/0? I know that personally, having just gotten my RAZR M, I'd like to keep the option of a warranty on the table.
Thank you to anyone who can help
EDIT: There have been a few mentions on other sites that restoring to 4.0.4 and then taking the OTA update to 4.1.1 will revert the root checker to 'qe 0/0' but I cannot get any verification on here as of yet. I will update this post once someone can confirm.
The term SBF is a complete misnomer and refers to a legacy firmware format for older devices.
We have XML.zip archives of fast boot images now for all dual core Motorola devices.
To answer your question regarding the qe status being reverted by flashing the full XML.zip with RSD Lite, the answer is no, that persists after flashing and should show 0/1 for a device that has been rooted but is not currently.

Thank you, I had not realized the method had changed. I just knew it was still RSDlite and a file like it had been for my Droid X.
Shame about the root check though. I would love to be able to backup/freeze my apps and such without foregoing the warranty.
Thank you for the information.
Re: Does SBFing reset the recovery root checker to "0/0'?
If you RSD to ICS and perform an OTA update to JB that it's defeated.

So you are confirming a personal qe 0/0 when reverting to ICS and then updating to JB over OTA.
Fantastic. I look forward to the link as well.

That's one reference. I did it twice, once unfortunately because my M's speaker kept going out. I bought my M at a 3rd party retailer and the first thing the sales associate did was check the qe values. My current one had 2:1 displayed out of the box, prior to any rooting. I hadn't rooted my phone, but did sync my apps from the playstore. I'm not sure what triggers that value.

I wonder if we could pinpoint the location of the program, and swap the file or folder with a stock, "safe" one, so once a phone is reset, it can't carry a log of root activity.
Sent from my XT907 using xda premium
Strange, since 2/1 isn't even a value I am seeing on other sites. But even with 2/1, yours read 0/0 after a flash to ICS and then an OTA update to JB?
And sorry if it seems I am just beating a dead horse here, but I am hoping to test this myself sometime so I can help verify for others as well, but I don't want to try it unless I am 99% sure it will work.
Anyone else?

It does NOT reset the root checker. I used RSDlite to take me back to ICS, then I let my phone update itself to JB. I then factory reset my phone, then I checked my root checker and it was still 0/1

It worked on my M. But mine had weird values from the start, before I rooted it. I had to RSD to get rid of safestrap. I haven't bothered with this one yet. (The replacement) I have read posts on other websites that the checker wasn't as accurate as Moto would have liked. I would like an answer to what the 2/1 value means. But we won't know till the boot loader is unlocked. Is there a root checker on the developer edition?

I'm getting the same exact issue. I have a refurb. I was able to root and unlock my previous razr hd. After that one broke and I got a replacement I followed the same steps and still I cannot unlock the bootloader...
You may have covered all of this but im throwing it out there in case something helps:
- Did you take or are you on the most recent OTA update? if so that blocks the unlock exploit (i think this was pushed out over the past couple weeks)
- are you sure you are rerooted and using a working version of superSU?
- have you tried using the Motopocalypse.zip and running that tool vs using Mats utility? Make sure you are giving root privileges when / if it asks.

There is a post on DroidRzr where they are working a root method for the update. It requires fast booting back to the previous update. However, you still won't be able to unlock because the new OTA patches the security vulnerability that allowed the unlock.
From what I've read, going backwards does not reopen the exploit.

Hey Guys,
So I have my Razr M rooted with an unlocked bootloader and I'm running CM 10.1 stable. My headphone jack is messed up due to some hardware issues so VZW is sending me a warranty replacement. As of right now I still have the warning message that pops up about my bootloader being unlocked...if I flash a new bootloader image, this should take care of the message so that if Verizon turns on my phone that it doesn't look like I've unlocked it correct?

Well if you flash the boot logo that will remove the bootloader unlocked image yes... But your still going to be on cm not to mention the custom recovery.... Then you have the built in root checker and it saying that its unlocked in the fast boot menu.... Then your going to get a device that cannot be unlocked maybe even unrootable... I would have replaced it myself rather then risk the up to $500 fee for sending back that device (if they look into it) and having a device that is not unlockable or rootable.... Normally yes the just inspect it for physically damage and toss it in a bin for later repair but I just always have bad luck with this kind of thing so I would have spent 6$ on a head phone jack and put it in....

I've never repaired anything like that and from what I can tell it involves soldering which I have never done and don't own a soldering iron or anything. I'm okay with not having an unlocked bootloader as I figured it was a possibility when I bought the phone in the first place. I just want root mainly to get rid of bloat apps and have AdAway. Those are really the only things I use root for and I don't use a lot of the features that are in some of the custom roms. Especially since I know Kit-Kat is coming to the Razr M now it's not that much of a deal.
Is there a way to flash the stock image and relock the bootloader?
Use Matts utility to flash stock... Then update... There is no way to lock the boot loader... And no soldering needed it's a pressure connect

So I got my new RAZR M today and it's still running 98.16.3.
I'm having trouble finding which update fixes the exploit to lock the bootloader. Is that 98.18.78? It's not imperative that I unlock the bootloader but I don't want to update my phone if it's going to fix the exploit in case I feel like unlocking it in the future.
EDIT: Looks like the build is from May 29th 2013 which would seem like it can be unlocked since the update that broke the exploit was in July correct?

Just read this on Android Authority and was wondering if it would work. Great to hear this. Again, users got REAL lucky on this one considering this wasn't created specifically for this phone, but for the general population of unpatched 4.4.2 kernels.
Word of warning, if you used my UNIVERSAL script to flash 183 onto your phone, you must either manually flash the TZ partition or use my KEEP DATA script before rooting an unlocking else it will fail.
BTW, I just received an email notification from Motorola stating there is another soak test coming, so definitely root and unlocked your phones NOW and I can't stress that more than enough or else, you can kiss root and unlocking good-bye, especially if this is an 4.4.3 update. Once 4.4.3 comes out, /system is no longer writeable and things will get really ugly.
So, root and then unlock your phones on the 4.4.2 KK OTA before the next one comes out or you will be sorry.
BTW, if you're so worried about voiding your warranty, once you root, you've voided your warranty and there is a root checker built into the device, so they can tell if you've rooted or not, so if you're going to root, you might as well unlock the bootloader.
The warranty concern is nonsense. PLENTY of people sent back unlocked phones and no one ever complained. Yes, the soak emails were known about last night which is why we've been trying like hell to get this message out to everyone to get it done NOW. It's an almost certainty that the TZ partition will be secured again. And root will almost assuredly be patched since it was patched in the linux kernel on june 3rd. Unlocking is the surefire way of keeping root forever, and getting to play with new roms which is awesome. Plus, don't like kitkat? Downgrade with my UNIVERSAL script. (Yes, the one that's causing some problems for people unlocking. LOL). We can not stress this enough...NOW is the time to unlock before it's too late. I can't even begin to describe how lucky you all are.
One question. After I unlock the bootloader and they send out 4.4.3, will it be possible to take the update OTA?

yes but there may be some jumping through hoops like unrooting or sbfing but you will not lose any data and you can just reroot by flashing a superuser.zip . unless moto goes from nice to evil and this ota re locks boot loaders
That's what I'm wondering. Will they relock the bootloader or leave it be since these phones are nearly two years old.

Stop that. They're not going to relock the bootloader. However, screw OTA's. Wait for the FXZ to leak and use my RSD Script Generator to create a KEEP DATA or UNIVERSAL script and flash that with RSD. Flash custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) and flash supersu zip and be done with the whole thing. Forget unrooting and trying to make the OTA work. Too much effort. LMAO
---------- Post added at 11:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:11 AM ----------
See what you've done? These poor people are now paranoid about bootloader relocking. LOL! They won't relock it. It's physically blowing an eFuse to do the unlock. Relocking would be extremely problematic and cause more problems than they'd solve. And given the likelihood that this was "accidentally" done (cough cough) in the first place, there's an almost 0 chance of relocking.

Good to hear. I want everyone with these phones to do so. This is a great opportunity. No one should be sitting on the fence this time.
Indeed great news. Too bad my XT926 is not by me right now(being used by my father) and I can get my hand on it till september.
My XT926 is bootloader locked and has JB 4.2. build is 9.18.94 I guess. I have my phone rooted and since then using safestrape 3.12 and has stock rom and RageHD ROM on it. I can remember last time trying to install OTA the update process failed even I have used voodoo root keeper to hide the root.
So now my questions:
1. Is the right procedure for me: Remove Safestrape->Install OTA KK->using methods described here for KK for unlocking?
2. What was the reason the OTA update failed? Safestrape?
3. Can I uninstall Safestrape through it's "uninstall" function?
4. After uninstall if I choose OTA update, will it be the current KK which contains this old exploit for bootloader unlocking?
5. If I wait till september to do it myself, if there is another OTA out which patches this exploit again, can I fake a Moto web site and pointing it to the current KK (183), lets say change the host file on XT926. Is this even possible?

From the description I see that the script will flash a 760MB file, the KK 4.4.2 (KDA20.62-10.1). So I won't be afaid that when I wait for some months even if Moto patched their OTA for this bootloader exploit, the unpatched bootloader is still in (KDA20.62-10.1), which I assume is build 183, so I will still be able to use this exploit, as long as my phone is in JB (4.2) state?

Rooted and unlocked using the apk's. Doesn't get any easier than that. Now what is the preferred custom recovery for most of you?

Thanks billycar11!
From the description I see that the script will flash a 760MB file, the KK 4.4.2 (KDA20.62-10.1). there is no jb 4.2 i think you mean 4.1..2 . but you will not be able to use it on jelly bean you need to update to kitkat root then unlock.
hey all. i just got a used razr m verizon from ebay. it came with 4.1.2 (98.30.1.xt907)
i dont want to **** this up and not be able to unlock my bootloader, can i towlroot then Motopocalypse on the firmware im on now or do i have to do something else?
RSD Lite or House of Moto to 183.46.10 (NOT .15) and you'll be set. TowelRoot would work on your version, however, Motopocalypse would not. Jump to that version I said above and they will both work. Once unlocked, you're permenantly unlocked and can do any update you'd like.

Happy flashing. Be sure to do a full backup before going too crazy.

ok got unlocked the bootloader. had to use the APK. for some reason, my computer is being stupid and if i run the batch file for the unlock it just sits after starting service daemon.
one question. i rebooted my phone a couple times just to be sure and i noticed that screen saying warning your bootloader is unlocked. will i see that warning every time i boot the device? if so is there a way to get rid of it?
Yeah you'll see that every time unless you flash a new boot logo.... That post should have all the information you should need... If you need any further assistance just ask and we'll do our best to help
