How To | M8 Hong Kong | Downgrade with S-ON | To S-OFF - One (M8) General

Out of the Box, my M8 comes with 1.60.708.2.
I've been so upset that I can't go S-OFF with Firewater.
As for Sunshine method, in-app payment declined my credit cards (Myanmar).
And even with my Fav custom ROM, due to base OS difference, there were problems with boot time, boot logo, ...
Finally I found this site
http://bbs.gfan.com/android-7496959-1-1.html
These are what I did.
Stock Nandroid backup and Stock recoveries downloaded from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
1. I firstly restored to 1.60.708.2 by restoring Stock Nandroid from that thread via TWRP recovery.
2. Restored to Stock recovery from that thread.
3. Relocked the bootloader.
4. Download this and rename to HBOOT.zip
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=2359888657&uk=622017286
Download this and rename to 0P6BIMG.zip
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=2360886064&uk=622017286
5. Enter RUU mode by the command:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Then flash HBOOT by
fastboot flash zip HBOOT.zip
6. Then, transfer the downloaded 0P6BIMG.zip to the root of mSD via Card Reader, then insert to the phone.
7. Reboot to bootloader by
fastboot reboot-bootloader
ROM flashing will start automatically.
It will take a long time to complete.
Then ur phone will boot up with 1.54.708.5 downgraded OS.
8. Then Unlock Bootloader.
9. Flash TWRP recovery.
10. Root with SU zip in TWRP.
11. Finally, use Firewater to get S-OFF.
DO IT WITH YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY
I've tried this method and now with SuperCID

ROM - http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=2360886064&uk=622017286
(rename to HBOOT.zip and 0P6IMG.zip)
Steps:
Return to Stock Recovery
Relock the BL
Flash HBOOT.zip in RUU mode.
Put the ROM zip at the root of mSD card
Put the phone to HBOOT and Rom flashing process will automatically undergo.
Then the phone will boot up with out-of-the-factory 1.54.708.5

I just purchased sunshine a couple of days ago this made me sad. $25 is not so cheap.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you.
buying two devices doesn't make 25 dollar for a s-off (per device) cheap. Developers have been offering such services on XDA free for years. And there are always people who are willing to donate to appreciate their effort.
Remember there was a bounty thread where people were willing to pay up to 2 grand for s-off. But the devs asked us to pay a premium price per device, and that's just not in the spirit of XDA.
This is just my two cents. and you have every right to disagree with me.

Of course I am going to disagree. Another take-for-granted user.

will this work on all gsm unbranded m8's?

Will this work for whelped users?

Any idea if it works with VZW? If so would I just RUU a stock ROM afterwards?

I'm sorry friends.
I'm just an end user and just sharing my experience with my Hong Kong version of M8y with this method, which perfectly ok on downgrading and then S-Off'ing my Device.
I don't know it will work on other devices or not.
Anyway, mine was also a whelped device with 1.60.708.x.

how to sim unlock htc wildfire!

ok this is to try clear up the amount of people posting for this.
there are only 2 ways of doing this.
1. BUY a unlock code!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. use xtc clip to gain s-off supercid and sim unlock.
there is no free way!!!!!!!
unless your device has RADIO S-0FF. NOT revolutionary s-0ff as it is a hboot patch. if you are radio s-off ( highly unlikely as it would need to be shipped s-0ff. )( only other way is xtc clip, but then you would already have sim unlock) then unzip and put the attached file (.nbh) on the root of your sdcard. boot to bootloader. then clear s58 data. this WILL factory reset your device!!!
Again there is NO FREE WAY. NO SOFTWARE WE HAVE CAN DO IT!!!

Keep in mind that there's always a free way. Just call your service provider and they will send you an unlock code for your phone within 48 hours. The catch is that you need to have an account in good standing. If you don't, you can always fall back on HTC SIM Unlock. I've used them a few times over the years and even got a refund since they coudn't unlock my ancient imate JAM. http://www.htcsimunlock.com/#oid=1096_1

you need to boot into bootloader using volume down and power after the phone is off. if the white screen says s-off and does not say revolutionary then you have either already used an xtc clip, and the phone will be sim unlocked, or it was sent out like that. if you run the diag.nbh it will clear the security data for the phone, but it will only run if you are radio s-off. it will remove sim lock, and give you supercid so you can run any ruu. as a side effect it will wipe all data from your rom.
so, if you are radio s-off this will give you sim unlock. but it will factory reset your phone in the process so back up what you can

[Q] What do you guys think about this phone?

i received an invite for this phone, total cost for me is going to be like 450 canadian dollars. how are your impressions? i want to know so i make sure i don't waste my money also how hard is it to root? thanks in advance guys
Not hard to root at all. If you're familiar with Nexus phones, then its pretty much.
1. install drivers
2. fastboot oem unlock
3. fastboot flash recovery <recovery>.img
4. put supersu.zip on ur phone
5. flash
6. u have root.
in terms of impressions, just read reviews.. theres a bunch of them online that you can read and see pretty pictures.

Despite having a slightly yellow band, I love this device. See sig for the devices I have, the 1+1 is my favorite.
As for root it's just as easy as a Nexus, flash custom recovery then flash SuperSU.zip in recovery.

You get a very nice phone for a decent price. Other than this TLDR; read the reviews by tech sites as I fully agree with them on nearly everything.
In other words; I am not sure you can get a half as decent (specs and software) phone for double the price from another brand.

No offense but that should have been easier to google than even type the question. It is very easy to root, you just need to unlock the bootloader and flash another recovery. Please note that unlocking the bootloader will factory-reset your device for security reasons.

First thing I recommend for anyone to do on their phone regardless whether or not they plan on rooting or not is to unlock their bootloader.
This is because you will have the opportunity to backup your phone's data / text messages etc; whereas, if the bootloader is not unlocked you will lose all your data.
Having the bootloader unlocked does not compromise any security/protection/etc

How do I restore stock system so that I can accept an OTA?
Copy the system.emmc.win from your TWRP backup folder to the folder containing fastboot on your PC (or any folder, if fastboot is in your PATH). Make sure your Android SDK platform-tools are up to date!!
Reboot the device into Download mode (adb reboot download) and connect to PC.
Fastboot flash the backup file* (fastboot flash system system.emmc.win).
Fastboot flash stock recovery (fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img)
Reboot to system, install OTA.

Almost Brick my phone when updating firmware. Close call !!!

Just got the M9 today.
Unlocked, rooted, Installed TWRP, S-Off.
Then I was trying to update to the latest 1.32.40.17 firmware, but I forgot to superCID (11111111).
My cid was HTC__059.
So, the phone stalled forever...had no choice but Vol Up + Power button. Then the phone was tuck at a weird screen with few options of reboot the phone, reboot to bootloader... But no matter what option to choose, the phone just did not reboot to that.
Vol up + Power...Vol down + Power....I dont remember what I pressed cuz I had to press those combo many times, but luckily got back to the download mode. & things went well.
So......SuperCID right after S-Off people.
What a close call
This happened to me, but it happened for no reason. Screen said press this for reboot then just went back to the same screen. Had to hard reboot to fix
PEBKAC.

Good advice. Wish there were more threads like this, cos I am not new to flashing but new to htc..
i am unlocked and rooted, but still S-On. Contemplating to go S-off.
So, after S-off then SuperCid, does that mean we can flash "any" rom from any custom rom/any region? but if we are 1.32 we cannot flash 1.40 roms right? we must go back to stock to take the update? i think that is where a few (who are new to htc like me) are confused.
I believe that with S-on, u can flash custom rom that has matching base/firmware.
Put your phone in download mode, the OS tells you your firmware.
Look for roms that has matching base/ firmware.
You dont have to go back to stock. You can flash the latest OTA, it will update your phone to the latest firmware, then flash latest rom.
S-off & superCID let you flash any firmware, any radio, any rom from any region.
I do think $25 is worth the S-off for my case.
I flashed the latest firware, but didnt like it much because of some kernel bugs. So i went back to 1.32 for more stability.

I was browsing the threads here and it seems the verizon htc 10 can be rooted, s-off, and bootloader unlocked via the Sunshine program. However, can I do it myself or do I have to mail the phone to someone?
Also, does the device have to have a certain build # to be able to root, soff, and unlocked? As I will ask the person I am selling what build they are using if so.
Thank you!
Hi,
I just got this phone yesterday and just went through this process. Upon immediately getting home from Verizon, I ran sunshine and it worked right away. I believe my firmware was something low like 1.19 or so. From what it sounds like though is that sunshine will work at even more recent firmware versions. Sunshine is just an app you can run yourself. All you have to do is enter your credit card and it will run. Hope this little bit of info helps.
Sunshine will work until Android N.
Verizon won't update us again til N
Pulled same crap with M9.

Opt for s-off locked. No need to do unlocked.

Just to reinforce what others have said, the phone can be rooted with any current Verizon firmware versions, and you will be required to run Sunshine for S-Off/Locked status. As has been said Sunshine is a breeze to use and the developers certainly deserve the mandatory donation, lol. Though the carriers were quick to lose interest in the 10 I've been very happy with the purchase all around, I would definitely recommend it as a daily driver that's fairly safe to tinker with (due to s-off)!
Yes, you can do it by yourself but I haven't tried it yet. It is a kinda long procedure and in between the process if you press the wrong key or did something wrong then you end up with bricking your phone. Rest of all you can read here :- http://www.tekpirates.com/verizon-htc-10-unlock-bootloader-root-system-gain-s-off-install-cwm-twrp-recovery/.

You have no idea what you are taking about and the article you linked is gobbledygook and computer translated.

With the latest version of sunshine, you can do it directly from the app. You don't have to mail your device anywhere.

Nope. Any variant of the HTC 10 should work.
