Note 3 data keeps dropping - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys I need your help, I have had this note 3 for 1 month I notice that my data keeps dropping in and out but yet I have 3 to 4 bars of signal, I have pulled Sim card out and also did a soft reset but still the same problem I am wondering if this is a common problem or should I just take back the note and get a refurb note.

Hey, are you rooted or pure stock. If you're rooted I'd try flashing a different modem in Odin here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47400062
If you're pure stock and not rooted at all, I'd probably give big red a call or stop in at your nearest store for a replacement.

Thank you for this. I am running stock rooted NC2. Going to try the NC4 file to see if it helps. Both data and voice have not been great on my phone lately. Even text messages have failed sometimes.
Are these instructions correct?
-download modem file, extract
-start Odin.
-Select "phone" and fetch the modem.bin file.
-Only thing checked should be "Auto Reboot"
-Put phone in download mode
-Plug in USB
-hit Start
-reboot

I'm on vacation right now so I can't completely confirm but the modem file should show up in the ap slot. It varies from phone and area but nc4 works great for me. Some people are using the mje modem on kk. It's a trial and error for you. Hope it's just the modem and not your phone.

I experienced this issue when running on GSM networks, i fixed my data stability issue by adjusting my APN settings and changing a couple of uncommon things such as adjusting mvno type to IMSI, bearer type to LTE, and removing the port for data (not MMS!), and fixed my signal stability issue by upgrading or downgrading the modem depending on what rom i was running.

If I am under verizon because they do not use GSM how do I Change apn setting and also whatever else do I have to change on a non rooted phone.

I'm not quite sure why you'd need to change APN settings if you're still on verizon (unless you're using a network that runs off of verizon towers). But the answer to your question is go to settings > mobile networks > Access Point Names. You'll need to leave MCC and MNC as they are. Those change based on what kind of network you are connected to. If you change those your APN settings will not save.

Hi Christaina do you think by changing those setting will help my phone from dropping data on and of while on foxfi and surfing the net

The only reason I ask is I have unlimited data and I use this for all of of my needs and I cannot afford to have data dropping so much

That honestly sounds like a modem issue but could potentially be fixed by apn settings by actually setting the authentication type, APN type set to default, hirpri, internet, mms I don't know any of the verizon APN settings because im using this phone on straight talk through AT&T towers.

flash MJE modem

Thanks

What are your APN settings?

Make sure your APN protocol only has the value "ipv6". Perhaps you see this mentioned in a recent post...

Uk here.. dial *#*#4636#*#* set phone network from wcdma prefered to LTE/GSM-PRL, turn radio off then back on .. now even though they are the wrong settings it's the only way i can can decent 3G(H) speeds and not have the minute or two 3G lockups... shrugs.

Phone: SGH-I337M Telus Model - Phone is couple of days old...
Ok here is how it started...
1-Motochopper root (worked great)
2-Installed Goldeneye ROM and wifi fix (which seemed to work at first)
3-Noticed data is not working (no lte logo, nothing, just wifi and phone calls working)
4-Checked APN settings (all good)
5-Tried different radio, No Luck
6-Tried 3 other ROMs, No Luck
7-Reflashed to stock July Samsung Telus Stock ROM with ODIN (no luck)
8-Wipe Data/Factory Reset (before next flash)
9-Reflashed to April Samsung Stock Telus ROM with ODIN
10-Tested data connection and APN settings (no luck)
11-Updated (with internal update) to July Stock Samsung Telus ROM with ODIN (no luck)
I cant get data to work no matter what I do. I am 2 weeks to late to return to the store and I am at wits end.
If anyone could assist I would be forever gracious and would even paypal you a beer/coffee... :good:
Thanks.
You sure you've got the apn settings and radio correct? If so it's either a hardware problem or it's not on your end but an issue with the carrier. You've tried everything I would do.
I believe some APN settings are case sensitive. Please check/confirm.

You're welcome! I only learnt of the case sensitivity through sharpehenry too! Will thank them after posting this
EDIT: I see that your issue was resolved and I didn't even read to the end! I was posting about your APN settings being case sensitive. I'm glad you got it figured out! Please share how to fix that with others!

Restricted access change - voice disabled (Verizon)

So I've been getting this message occasionally the last few days, and voice/calling does indeed get disabled. A simple restart gets me back up and running for a day or so.
I am rooted but I specifically only noticed this since replacing my mobile hotspot provisioning app with the modified version from the dev forum.
Anyone else ever get this? It's a system notification in my task bar. I'll grab a screenshot next time. Think it's something to worry about?

Galaxy S5 no service

For the past week I've been having problems with network. It keeps showing No Service for a couple of minutes, and I can't receive calls/messages in the meantime. I attached a screenshot
I tried to google "Galaxy s5 no service" and there is a post on technobezz.com where they say to enter Service mode by dialing code *#*#4636#*#* but it didn't work for me
I contacted my service provider (Rogers), they reset network settings and I thought it fixed the issue as it was working fine for a couple of hours but then it started doing same thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Friends of mine were at my house over the weekend and he had a samsung s4 and had the same problem after logging onto my wifi. It is the wifi causing the problem. I had an old modem and netgear router that we hooked up and then we were able to receive calls like you should. We switched out the modem/router combo on Sat to my older setup and my phone is still working normally! I called my dsl provider and told them about the problem as I just bought the modem/router combo from them recently.
They never heard of anything like this. I do find it hard to believe that the home wifi equipment disrutes the cell phone signal. But my phone is now working!!! Anyone ever heard of this or that can explain why this would happen I would love to hear about it.
I was having the same problem and what fixed mine was going to settings>more networks>mobile networks>network operators,, once the scan finishes I had 2 networks named the same ( in my case EE) I then just tried the other EE network and up to yet its all working , hope this helps and you all get yours fixed :good:

[Q] Nexus 4 with Android 5.0.2 and MetroPCS

Hi, I bought a used Nexus 4 off eBay with Android 5.0.2 (edit: 5.0.1) on it. I'm trying to use it with MetroPCS. I can send/receive calls and texts on it, but I have no data connection. Wi-Fi is working.
I've tried taking the sim card out/in and I've also tried every APN setting for MetroPCS I can find, with no luck. Any other ideas?
This may not be the issue but worth a check: Check under "settings", "data usage", that setting "cellular data" is set on. It somehow turned off on mine once and resulted in the same symptoms.

I forgot to mention I checked I that too. I think I've checked most of the likely culprits by now.
Are you sure it's on 5.0.2? There is no official 5.0.2 factory image for the n4 so you must be on a custom rom. I'd flash back to the 5.0.1 factory image and see if it works then
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
Oops, yes, I checked, it's on 5.0.1. Don't know where I got the idea it's on 5.0.2.
