[Q] Omnirom compilation : How to customize Busybox ? - Omni Q&A

I'm using Omnirom to generate a version 4.4.4 for Acer A200 tablet, and it works fine ( see IconiaHD repository )
But I wish to add the option 'microcom' to embedded busybox
I tried to do with direct modifications in config files into ./external/busybox directory, but without success : The generated busybox in final ROM is still the same, without microcom...like 'minimal' config (note : both 'full' and 'minimal' does'nt have MICROCOM option)
Where and how to add/change any parameter to obtain a custom busybox ?

Nobody know ?

[TUT][MOD] FuguTweaks, feel the smoothness of Nexus S

Original thread here. Give thanks to nikademus
This tweak adds responsiveness on the phone. What it does is replace app_process and system_server binaries by the ones found in android 2.3.3_r1 or 3.1 (v0.2)
Note that those binaries have been compiled by me from google official source.
This has been qualified by supercurio as a taste of the Nexus S 2.3.3 smoothness.
It will not make your battery last longer or the opposite. Neither will it improve quadrant benchmarks.

As described above, this tweak will adds responsiveness on the phone, so our device will runs smoother than usual. Also, I'm just found that this tweak will reduce lockscreen-lag yeah I can feel the difference.
This tweak is tested by me on KPN + CF-Root but I'm sure it working on other ROM/firmware, as well as Froyo.
Do this as your own risk!
Always make backup before proceed!
To install, just download one of the file at the link below then flash with CWM (don't forget to mount /system).
Pick one, no need to use them all...
Download v0.1: Download now - currently I'm using this one
--v0.2 REMOVED. It's troublesome.
Manual install & backup:
With any root file manager, goto /system/bin and mount as R/W, backup the following files to your sdcard: app_process, system_server
Copy FuguTweak files (app_process and system_server) to /system/bin, replace the current one.
Set permissions to rwxr-xr-x (755) then change owner to:
Owner = 0 - root | Group = 2000 -shell
Reboot.
Changelog in the original thread.
0.1 = all files taken from 2.3.3 AOSP
0.2 = app_process only, taken from 3.0 AOSP
If your Ace went wrong:
Revert back any changes you've made with this flashable-zip:
Backup KPN
PS: ROM makers, would you give me a proper credit? because I've tested this awesome tweak on SGA

Right! It's Fla.sh X2 "secret" tweak which I've mentioned before
Download v0.1: = CWM recovery
Download v0.2: = root explorer
is above correct fla.sh?
and we can choose any above or do we have to do both (for gingerbread stock)?
thanks!

In linux systems permissions and ownership are assigned to owner, group and others .To get a particular thing to work you have to set right permissions and ownership. For ownership there is chown command and permissions chmod command.
Coming back to the topic you can change ownership by root explorer .Long press the required file and from the popup menu choose the last option-Change Owner
and change Owner = 0 - root | Group = 2000 -shell
.

[SCRIPTSET v2.6][02/28/2012] Build native GNU/Linux applications: the easy way

New: SANE (USB Scanner backend and drivers) - OTG equipped device needed to work for this - YES, Scanner Access Now possible and Easy with your phone
This can (in combination with tesseract-ocr) be very useful to recognize text from scanned images.
For pictures see also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23046120&postcount=187
Update 01/30/2012: Now with a small android app (ScriptStarter) to start services and other shell scripts easily from the GUI. See bottom of the post.
WHAT'S POSSIBLE WITH THIS SCRIPT:
With this bash script your are able to build relatively easy from source a lot of native software (over 90 at the moment) from the GNU/Linux community for your Android phone and you will have
the good experience with free software.
All these tools and programs are not "apps for the GUI" for Android but native running command line tools "under the surface" of your Android GUI like the kernel and other services.
Don't ask me if it makes any sense to install program xy (like MySQL) on a phone. This is your decision. It's possible, so try it and see what you can do with it.
Note: I tested most of the compiled software on a Samsung Galaxy S2 (my phone). I cannot test it on a variety of phones because I have no mobile phone shop...
Currently buildable with this scripts (abstract, see the full list in package_selection.conf):
PHP 5.3.10 (with almost all extensions and XCache)
MySQL 5.5.19 (if you want a full database server on your phone...)
lighttpd 1.4.30
OpenSSH 5.9p1
OpenSSL 1.0.0f
Samba 3.6.3
cURL 7.23.1
bash 4.2

FEATURES:
automatic download and untar the cross-compilers (if not already done) for cross compiling
automatic download and untar the source packages (if not already done), that you have selected
solve dependences and reserves additional needed packages
apply patches to the sources if necessary
build them, "install" them in a folder for later "ready to transfer" to your phone and stripes the binaries and libraries to reduce the filesize if selected
autogenerate a tar file and adb push the file to device if selected
allows you to use well-known software like PHP, MySQL, OpenSSL, OpenSSH, OpenVPN, bash and lighttpd on your phone (see the full list in file package_selection.conf, see attachement)
scripting and development on your phone
no limits with BusyBox (without want to be derogative, BusyBox is a wonderful tool), full featured tools like Coreutils, Binutils etc.
build scripts are expandable with other or newer packages you eventual want to have
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
Q: Do I need native GNU/Linux programs and what is that?
A: If you do not know what native Linux applications are, then stop here - you don't need them.
Q: What can I do with these tools?
A: Many things. As a developer you can use the libraries to include them in Android GUI apps, as user you can start for example a webserver on your phone and write some HTML or PHP pages
just for fun or replace BusyBox with full featured tools (or only some commands).
Some tools are also very useful to find network errors, check the network traffic and many more.
Q: What do I need?
A: A Linux installation (VM or real), some Linux knowledge and a little bit time to read all instructions carefully. A rooted Android device with enouth free memory (ext2/3/4 formatted)
See README for details.
Q: Costs?
A: Nothing. The scripts are Open Source (GPL v3), the packages are GPL licensed or under a similar license. The cross-compilers are Open Source or free to use for non-profit purposes.
But I would be pleased if I get a donation and/or a press on the "Thanks button", if the scripts are useful for you. It was a long and hard work...
Note: The attachement scriptset-x.yy.zip is double packed (inside .bz2), because I want preserve the right settings of the scripts.
STEPS:
Selected the desired packages in the config file
Adjust the compiler settings for your phone
Run the build script to download and compile the software
Copy the generated TAR files to your phone or let "adb" this do for you and unpack them in the prepared sysroot folder
For more information please read the instructions in "README"
Please let me also know if you have any problems or if you have questions or further suggestions.
Thanks go to the Open Source community and a lot of people/webpages with hints about cross-compiling software.
Thanks
smitna

ScriptStarter
02/03/2012 Added a small ScriptStarter for the GUI. With this app, written with JQuery, PhoneGap and Java (wrapper to execute the shell scripts) it's possible to start for example the lighttpd web server, Pure-FTPd or MySQL from within the Android GUI without a terminal and read the output. If a script needs root access, there is a checkbox to allow this. For this to work, copy the script sush in the script folder. All scripts ending with .sh can be started (please choose after the first start your script folder on the device to add the scripts to the selection, normally your [SYSROOT]/sbin folder).
Three buttons (start, stop and status) are predefined for start-stop-status scripts, there is also a parameter input field for more start values.
Free GPL v3 source code also included (Eclipse project). Please don't expect too much eye-candy. The GUI could be much better, but my CSS skills are very limited...
I added a few example scripts in the zip file, for example a battery stats reader. Before starting these scripts, have a look in the source code to be sure that they are compatible with your device.
Update 0.97 02/03/2012: Now the stderr is also printed in the output window
Update 0.99 02/10/2012: Replaced scrolling api with a much better solution (jScrollPane) for the output window. Not the real Android scroll feeling, but it's usable.
Thanks! I would hit the Thanks button, but I am on my mobile atm.

it make dynamic binarys but i don't want dymanic type (because it difficult to divide one thing and maybe not work on android's libs)
how can i make static type?
ps : oh...it has so many comile error (even can't read or count all)

I hope I understand your question. Why not dynamic?
Yes, you have to set the parameters for your mobile phone. For TARGET_MARCH try "armv7", for TARGET_MFLOAT "softfp" and for TARGET_MFPU "vfp" but check this last setting carefully for this phone.
It's very hard to build a full static binary (and sometimes nearly impossible) and it's also hard to build against bionic (with NDK). I had no good experience with it . A lot of compiler runs wasn't sucessful. Edit: I also had for example massive problems with openssl. I couldn't find a way to build it with NDK or static and then build other programs like cURL with openssl support.
Static binaries are also too big and not necessary. For this we have a sysroot environment to be independent from bionic and without the restrictions. The compiled libs and binaries are linked to the CodeSourcery glibc and have set the custom "rpath" for the dynamic loader. That's no problem I think.
that's simple
if someone want to make some binary for all version of android (even same cpu) it will not work well (defend on basic lib(ex : libc) is ok but complex things will not work)
i know make static type binary is very difficult but it valable

You are right, if you want to build a "portable" binary, you have to set very safe settings, like TARGET_MARCH="armv5", the full list is in the "README". But it's not my main target to offer a solution that is easy portable to other phones, instead you can build the software with optimizations for your phone to "get the best" for it

thanks for patch files
I want to try this, to install some apps(most interested fro mc), but I don' t wanna change my sd card.
Can I use phone' s /data partition as mysysroot directory? I have 1.5GB space available on data partition, it is 2GB all.
And If yes, I must create the dir: /data/mysyroot? And where to create this dir on pc? On root directory of my linux system?

You can use the /data partition. Just create a new folder, for example /data/sysroot. On your PC you have to create the same temporary with full user rights. This is not your working dir for building. Create a new dir in /home/user and unpack the files there. In settings insert the /data/sysroot as TARGET_SYSROOT and change the other settings for your phone and choose mc=yes. Then start the ./build.sh
Thanks for your quick answer.
Just to make clear because my english understanding is not in a high level
I must create the /data/sysroot dir under "/"(root directory) on linux pc with superuser rights?

Yes, that is right. But this is the only step you need to do as root or better with root rights. After this work as usual as user.

Please notice first, that you should not run this script as root!!
Then there is something wrong with the build of the first needed packages:
ZLIB=yes
OPENSSL=yes
CURL=yes
GETTEXT=yes
LIBXML2=yes
READLINE=yes
NCURSES=yes
- The script cannot find the readline sources. Do you have a subfolder readline-6.2 in folder sources in your builddir? Same for the other source folders. The script first downloads the packages to folder packages, extract the tars in folder sources, repeated for all selections.
(look at line 67 in your log: ./build.sh: 1402: cd: Python-2.7.2: No such file or directory)
- You have no "xz", install it first and make sure, that the other necessary packages are installed. MySQL and gcc are "two pass" compilations and this builds generating temporary binaries, runable on your linux pc. So you need all for a successful compilation of such binaries like gcc, make, python etc. on your linux machine. If you are using Ubuntu, then install the "meta-package" build-essential, look in the README.
Do you have the other unpacking tools like gunzip etc. Please install also "bison"
You should do following steps:
1. First select only the necessary packages (see above), all others to no.
2. If zlib, python, readline an the others are cross-compiled (without errors) and the libraries are in ./sysroot/lib, then deselect them (=no) and select mysql=yes and start a second run with ./build.sh

In a short time I release a new version with better error and program checks and some small bug fixes. With this version it's not longer necessary to edit the build.sh, it's now all in only two separated configuration files (configuration and package selection).
hmm...fail to compile mysql again

Hello dateno1,
first: you have *NOT* changed to a user account as promised
The va_list is only a note, not an error, no problem (but ask the MySQL devs why they haven't adapted the code to gcc 4.6.1).
Your Python cross binaries and libraries are not ok (from you broken first build?). Please start from a "fresh state" (delete the folder sources/Python-2.7.2 and sysroot) or start from a total clean state.
Please use the latest 1.5 version of the script because of the xargs warnings at the end
Delete the complete sysroot folder, there are some folders not in place (data and docs). There is a script remove_all_files.sh
Start this script in your buildroot with ./remove_all_files.sh to remove all files and symlinks in subfolder sysroot.
Edit: delete the sysroot folder complete, there are some other missing folders from your first build!
Start again with ./build.sh and activated packages (the "ALWAYS NEEDED" one and MySQL)

[WINDOWS/ADB] (Busybox 1.19.4) Uncolored ls output! (compiled from source)

Hey!
I don't know if it has been posted before (and from what I can see in the "similar threads", it hasn't), but here it goes:
I've built, as my first ARM compilation, an uncolored ls output BusyBox (latest version, might I add) for you all .
Yes, I grew effin' tired of the whole garbage output when doing "ls" in busybox under Windows, and all of the solutions I saw in the interwebz (and XDA) were like, modify the CMD, use another command-line app (Console2 anyone?), put ANSI.SYS files on your path (Ewwww) and stuff like that. I had an out-of-the-box thought and said, hey, why don't I just fix the problem by recompiling busybox and setting --color as if it were --color=never.... always??
Well, I did, and here it goes. Enjoy.
It has been tested with my Nook Simple Touch, but YDMV (Your Device May Vary). I assume it could work in any, since I compiled it using codesourcery's ARM toolchain.
Take it easy on me though, I'm not very experienced in this ARM compiling stuff. If you guys are interested in the source, I'll post it. It's a small mod in coreutils/ls.c.
Enjoy
Hey, at least say thanks I wanna hear success stories and suggestions and stuff y'know! D: xD
can you make this flashable via cwm ?
I just figured out that I could replace the busybox link with one to toolbox to get rid of the color characters (ie. "ln /system/bin/toolbox /system/bin/ls) but I'll give this a try and if it works flawlessly, will include it in my ROM.

Hmm that's interesting, what does toolbox do in this case? is it somehow a stripped-down busybox of sorts?. Hehe, I'd love if you do use it though XD
Works on Micromax A70
Here is the flashable zip I made
Darkguy'sbusybox
If u get status 0 error while flashing then open the zip and go to this location
META-INF-->com-->google-->android and replace the update-binary with the one from any of your custom ROMs in same location
@darkguy2008
Good work
Add the flashable zip to OP
Thanks a lot mate! A very helpful contribution
Thanks buddy

kitchen rom

I'm creating a cooked rom based on the stock rom ita LT9 4.1.2, you can change the battery in the status bar without Xposed? I would include the circular battery with percentage inside. decompiling an apk? which one?

I think it's enough that you throw it into the SystemUI.apk(have a look inside that apk, if it's not there then it is in secframework.apk) (/res/.../XHDPI). Open the apk in winrar (you might have to rename it from .apk to .zip) and drag and drop the new files. Decompiling isn't necessary for this sort of thing.
Also, check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918500
I did this a long time ago so some of what I just said might be wrong, if you need more help then just say so.
I would like to use as a basis the stock rom 4.1.2 : N7000XXLT9_N7000ITVLT3_ITV.zip
I used the kitchen to create workfolder following all the steps suggested by the program , I found the following problems:
1 ) during the procedure appeared to me the following warning :
Warning : A valid boot.img is not found . You have the option to add a
' fake ' boot.img So THAT the features of the kitchen can still
function normally.
This boot.img will be automatically removed from your ROM 's
ZIP file When Is It built .
Add boot.img (y / n)? (default: y) "
is this normal? how to solve ?
2 ) Working folder information ( v)
Android OS version: 4.1.2
Device: GT- N7000
Model: GT- N7000
ROM Name : JZO54K.N7000XXLT9
CSC version: It 's normal that there is nothing written here ?

3) throughout the META-INF folder there are only 2 files: update-script; update-script.bak
4) scripts / get_api_level: line 18: more: command not found
5) I checked the update-script and there are 3 warning in the report:
7/101: copy_dir PACKAGEystem SYSTEM:

How do I resolve this? I tried a lot of on-line but have not found anything. My goal is to make me a custom rom from the last stock (LT9) ... what should I do?
Check my old tutorial I used myself when cooking Custom Roms for the N7000 with the kitchen. Following the steps should avoid most problems.

Sorry, but only repeating the problems you actually have won't solve anything because it isn't really clear what you did before.
The error here seems to be a hint that your cygwin installation isn't correct.
So please try to follow the steps in my tutorial exactly. Start from scratch.

It works. I have re-installed windows ...
can you tell me how to add new info in device info? (rom name, rom maker, release date, build version ...)

No. Because you do this partly when using the kitchen step by step. Or when changing your updater-script.
The kitchen is a great help and simplifies cooking a rom - but it still is a little bit more complicated than heating baby food in the microwave. And if you really want your "custom" rom you should start to learn what happens in each step. And this can't be done by revealing everything...

OnePlus 5 Kali Nethunter

Hello boys & girls!
I want to port the Kali Nethunter rom to the OnePlus 5.
Because it is my first time i need some people who can port it together with me.
Offensive Security has a nice tutorial on their website but its getting complicated when i come to the modify kernel part.
I really need some help with that.
More info:
offensive-security.com/kali-linux-nethunter-download
Porting info:
github.com/offensive-security/kali-nethunter/wiki/Porting-Nethunter
Sorry due the spam restrictions i cant post the links.
If you got some tips or advice on how to do it let me know! :good:
Greetings,
Stefjoe
Let me see...
EDIT: Ok. I can't help sorry

Any luck with this? Having a hard time myself.
I've looked at it myself and it seems complicated to me because I've never done that before but maybe anyone here is able to do it...

Any progress?
The only problem to port nethunter to the OP5 is to add HID and CDROM support to the kernel but in order to do so, those patches have to be ported to kernel version 4.4+ ...
Otherwise packet injection over usb works fine on OOS.
I'm trying to compile a kernel with packet injection for RR.
Tell me if you want the kernel ... I've modded Adin's kernel (OOS) and Lightning kernel (LOS).
You will then have to install the nethunter chroot zip and you're good to go.

I think you can find the patch for HID and CDROM support here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2196707
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/46bd47757a9f34c1d95dd2620414893212fb0526
FYI I don't know anything about patching kernels so i might be wrong
Well this leads to the hid patch :
github.com/pelya/android-keyboard-gadget/blob/master/kernel-3.4.patch
And this to something about the CDROM patch for the OP3 :
github.com/binkybear/androiddevs_kernel_oneplus_msm8996/commit/fc6f4b6b5f70509fbc5d583e8315f88119acb3c2
Not yet allowed to post links...
Anyway i need some help from other devs to port those to 4.4 :silly:...
Arka1n,
Hey,
I saw the post regarding putting nethuntr on the 1+ 5.
Are you willing to give me the needed kernel too plz?
Thanks

OnePlus5
I just got mine and want to do the same. I currently have nethunter on the original oneplus one and it works great. I am hoping it's the same process. Has anyone done it on any of the oneplus phones before? I ask because it took me at least 3 weeks every day after work playing with it. I bricked it maybe 3 times and OnePlus team remotely fixed it and finally I got it working. It wasn't easy.
If somebody has, please share your experience. I will try to pull up all of the links I used and videos I watched before I finally got nethunter to boot.
I want to do this to the oneplus 5 so I can use it for nethunter then wipe the onplus one and use it as my phone. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. I will come back and post the info I used for the oneplus one and anything I find for the oneplus 5.
cheers
Nethunter for OnePlus 5
I found a way to "port" but not the entire kernel.
I managed to create chroot and can run Kali shell after one failed trail.
IMPORTANT : I went into bootloop(only boots into twrp) once while trying to remount /system as rw. But then I figured out SElinux must be disabled. You know what to do if you went into a bootloop, but just take a backup (nandroid backup didn't work for me)
And I also lost all of my data after I flashed stock recovery.
Everything seems to be working fine. But there is a problem with the Nethunter 3.0.
The
Code:
apt-get
does not work.
However, I pinged google.com and I get replies.
So, we need to install metapackages manually. At least for now.
What I did :
1. Download OnePlus One nethunter 3.0 ROM
2. Locate the apks (<nethunter_extracted>/data/app)
3. Install in this order :
• Nhterminal
• VNC
• Nethunter app
4. Open the Nethunter app and install the chroot
( I selected full chroot, however, you may choose minimal chroot too instead )
5. From any root explorer, we need to copy the files that are under /data/data/com.offsec.nethunter/files/scripts/*
to
/system/bin
(If you don't find the .../files/scripts, open Nethunter app and try again)
6. After copying the files to /system/bin,
There are three important files :
•bootkali
•bootkali_bash
•bootkali_login
We need to symlink these ↑
Important : we need to make the system writable first.
Run from AndroidSU shell:
Code:
#setenforce 0
Code:
#mount -o rw,remount /system
Then, linking :
Code:
ln -s /data/data/com.offsec.nethunter/files/scripts/bootkali /system/bin/bootkali
Code:
ln -s /data/data/com.offsec.nethunter/files/scripts/bootkali_bash /system/bin/bootkali_bash
Code:
ln -s /data/data/com.offsec.nethunter/files/scripts/bootkali_login /system/bin/bootkali_login
You can remount /system to read-only if you wish to.
7. Next, install BusyBox to /system/bin
Usually, it is installed to /su/xbin.
But we need to install to /system/bin too.
This step is necessary.
8. Now, the Kali shell works fine.
Try running
Code:
#bootkali
in AndroidSU shell and you should be in the Kali shell
You can also open Nhterminal app and select Kali.
9. You may install the other apks now.
Enjoy ~ !!
