Hey guys,

What is your personal settings?
This setting is very confusing for me, it is useless.

All you can do is positioning the ring. I like the setting with the ring put near camera icon, but its not that easy.
Gesendet von meinem LG-D855 mit Tapatalk

i've set the ring in the middle..in that position it loses too much blue colors...and a bit above yours...too dark for me in that position.
that tool is a good idea but is too hard to set...

We all have different taste on what looks good and what doesn't. What's point of this thread again?

This is mine. Just trying to kill a little but of the washed out look. Screen is kind of a letdown, but this helps a bit.

What's the point of your comment? I think the point of the thread is stated well, and it's legit. I'm also curious what people are setting their color correction too.
You may not be, but it isn't all about you.

The point of the thread is to give people an idea of what others are using to compare or to give others a starting point.

Here's mine. I'm very happy with it.

I would rather prefer a tool to set the white level of the screen.
Compared my G3 to the wife's G2 today, my screen is very pinkish, hers is a perfect white, this is the only concern I do have with my G3

So one thing I have noticed is vertical adjustments change black and white and horizontal adjustments change color. Try making a setting and toggle on and off to compare, i like to go through my app drawer to see if the dark colors are too shaded. Another thing i do is use a reference like xda in chrome to see if the brown and yellow theme looks like it does on my laptop for a good consistency and nice deep color. I'm sitting at the camera icon as well but thought I'd share some ideas on testing and using visual references on things you've seen across different displays to know correct color tones.

Horizontal does hue..... which will more or less completely screw up your phone's color balance
Vertical does the contrast. Go into your laptop display or monitor and crank the contrast, your colors will start to haze and wash out a bit. Dropping it a smidge should make the blacks a bit more, well, black and your colors pop a little bit more.
It's be much nicer to have granular controls of the different colors... but at least this is something.

Thanks for clearing up the hue and contrast part. I was going off of what i saw from trial and error and wasn't 100% sure of the effects of hue and contrast.

Yeah.... Hue is better known as "Why the F does my screen look like a smurf on an acid trip puked on my screen?" Any adjustment to that needs to be extremely fine and each color needs to be discrete. An all-in-one slider is about as useful as that HUE knob that us old-timers used to have on our televisions. Made everything look like a cheesy alternative music video from the early 80's.

Doesn't this affect the entire screen and the whole phone? Apps included?

New Galaxy S2 Batch Better Screen

I have bought 2 Galaxy S From the first batch for me and my.
Now I just purchased one for my father.
And his screen is much better, may be it is just the calibration
But the color seem more bright, vivid and white.
the color of mine is more yellow.
Just a thought
May be Samy improve for the last batch
No pictures and it didnt happen..

mine is very white as well, I have seen the ones with yellowing and mine doesn't have it.
May be is only that i don't have chance and the 2 first i get is like that.
In fact i don't see a band like other thread mention, it just like calibration thing.
But it is ok, if i haven't see my dad's one i would never notice
i don't think picture would reveal that small details, and will send his phone to the dad day.
Thx
Have you checked the Settings>display> Background Effects to verify both are on the same setting, and yours isn't on movie?
I read somewhere that some specific models have a yellowish colour problem on the screen..
This really shouldn't be normal, so my best answer is to send it in for repair
No yellowing on mine all looks good.
Are both phones using the same brightness settings?
On my phone, when the brightness is low, whites have a yellow cast, but on full brightness, they look very good.
Mine is white as well. No yellowish color or pink spots on camera shots.

What he described is not the problem that people are facing.
BTW Engadget are simply repeating what people are saying here. They have no information of their own and it was people here mailing them that alerted them to the problem in the first place.

I've noticed on mine that the colour temperature gets warmer at lower brightnesses. Also dark grey takes on a brown cast. On full brightness it's perfect though. No left hand side yellow cast either that I can see.
There's 60 pages of discussion on this already and the points you're making have been made there a dozen times. Do we really need another 60 page thread on the exact same issue? In the other thread there's also a code to tell what version of screen you have. It would be interesting to see if the claimed "new batch" has a different version.

The main question arises....HAS THE BANDING issue been rectified...so i can FINALLY go head with my S2 purchase ? I'm hesitant to purchase such an expensive device..KNOWING it has a very obvious banding defect...and it seems samsung is unaware of its existence!
I had to ask this question, when I had my S8500 I always set the Brightness to 0, still the screen was enough bright with vivid colors and good contrast looked very sharp and there was no Bluish tint on the screen. But here with S-AMOLED+ if I set the Brightness to mid level or higher then the screen performs well and probably beat the former screen. But when it's set to Auto brightness it seems that the screen has a bluish effect and the whites are not perfectly white, the pictures are not that crisp like it was on the former one, in this case I'd easily say that former screen was better. Now is this a feature of S-AMOLED+ or problem? In low or 0 brightness it is the S-AMOLED which perform much better but not S-AMOLED+ !

Nobody seems bothered by the display's sharpening artifacts? Amazing!

This is very obvious the first few hours using the phone. Horrible sharpening halos around texts most noticeable on gray and non white backgrounds. It kills the black contrast of the text as well making it look gray and not to mention a pain to read. You can spot it easily in browser forums here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2250376 and here: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-2/

Am I the only one bothered by this?
I used to feel that aswell on my Acer GD245HQ when i was like 2 cm from it, then i got glasses and standed at a normal distance and they disapear
Supercurio is busy working his magic for the display a few of his tweets:
"with tuned sharpening, perceived sharpness can be nicely improved, sans visible artefacts"
"image processor from GS3 is from a newer generation than any existing devices, adding finer controls over useful parameters"
"settings are clearly over-cooked (not the first time and no preset is reasonable /accurate) it's perfect for Display Expert"
He's also addressing black crush etc...

i agree. unless it is norm to put your phone very near your eyes, use a magnifying lens or microscope when using your phone daily.
I just viewed the linked pages on my gs3 and I'm having a very hard time seeing what you're talking about. How does the text look remotely grey? And what halos? Text is sharp and easy to read even when zoomed out a fair bit. As you'd expect since it's a 300+ ppi screen.
Are you talking about the anti-aliasing? You don't want the font to be anti-aliased or something? Even in your magnified photo, I can't see what the problem is?

It isn't the anti alisaing. I increased the contrast a little to show the problem more clearly.
Notice the halos around the characters? Still dont know what is wrong? In browser tap menu, brightness and colors, select level 1 power saving. This makes the display color a little bluish but also eliminates the sharpening and makes the text much better looking as it should. Compare it to default and see if you notice a difference.

I think this is a legitimate issue. I can see the poor text rendering in all lighting conditions unlike complains about imperfect blacks that can only be seem in pitch dark conditions. Joking aside the poor whites are also an issue.

I Still Can See Pixels in S4

Somehow I can still see the border of font is jaggies for example white text on dark background in xda app or keyboard. I can see red and green pixel at the border of text..

The pixel arrangement does cause the odd artifact to appear on fonts, yes. I sometimes see green halos on the top edges of white fonts on black if i really want to look for it.
There is also a very clear row of red sub pixels at the bottom of the display. if this is what the OP means by 'the boarder' then yep its there and nope he's not just 'seeing things'. Id post an image from my SLR which shows it very clearly but i need 10 posts to link to external websites lol.
Anyway, it's there and real. But its so small that you can't see it really unless you are looking for it. So my advice to the OP is just dont worry about it And my advice to everybody else is.....get your eyes tested

It's just crap images, not the lack of pixels. Find a PDF document (vector graphics instead of pixels) and you won't be able to see any.

Is that your full profile? No changes to hue, saturation or contrast?
Well, I actually tweak red and green a lot to try find that sweet spot. I don't touch anything other than rgb scale although reducing saturation a little makes it look a little clean.
If anyone really experienced there have made a modification where the sRGB mode could even be improved with KCAL please do share. I like the sRGB mode as it is, but the whitepoint is far from being perfect and when you place it next to iP7 then it becomes more than clear. The default mode should be banished by the way, its the worst I have seen since them early Samsung AMOLED days.
Wish there was a profile which could place our phone near iPhone 7's accuracy/saturation/calibration.

I am sure someone has a setting for this. Just need them to find the thread and reply.
250, 238, 256 is what I use.
You will never match the iPhone 7 display. It is calibrated, at the factory, per display. We can post settings all we want, but each display can look different than another. But sRGB on the Pixel XL has a definite green bias... this helps resolve it, at least in the white balance. With my Pixel XL next to my iPhone 7 Plus, the 7 Plus is still clearly more color accurate sometimes... and other times, they look pretty close. Just turn on sRGB, adjust the white balance to your liking, and leave it alone. That's the best you can do if you want color accuracy. We lack the granular control capability to do a proper calibration, even if you had the equipment, as far as I know.

I use 246, 226, 256 to correct the green tint in sRGB mode.
Lets warm up.
I kind of miss the warmer hue my Nexus 5X had (It was, from a color accuracy standpoint, much more accurate too). The blue tint this screen has is a bit too much for my liking. After playing around for the last day or so I think I've found some settings that I like that reminds me of my N5X display.
I'm sure i'll be tweaking these slightly as time goes on, but I'm happy with what I've got so far:
Red: 235
Green: 247
Blue: 226
Saturation: 30
Value: 132
Contrast: 132
Hue: 0
sRGB: Off
?
Thank you for these profiles, they are good to test with, although every screen will be different coming from the factory. So tweaking might always be necessary.
Still, tweaking from a good base is way better than working from scratch.
Anyone using the default display mode with corrected green tint? What settings are you using?
I'm using 250, 235, 256 currently, through no delicate tweaking.
I don't like any yellowish, greenish profiles. Here are my profile, enjoy ?
Red 195
Green 178
Blue 215
Saturation 25
Value 129
Contrast 129
Hue 5

Good day! I've purchased s8 yesterday and found one annoying thing. When i'm setting some dark wallpaper (using Samsung Themes), it looks fine, but when using Edge panel or on lock screen, when background image is blurry, some particular dark areas are not so smooth, they are looking like some high-compressed image, dark square artifacts. I was hoping that the problem was in using wallpaper with not so good quality (found one with little to no artifacts), but then in completely dark room even there i found one place with those artifacts
Can someone please check this image set as wallpaper? On a lock screen, when you are prompted to draw a pattern to unlock your phone, look at blurry wallpaper in a dark room with brightness set to medium. On my phone i see those wierd artifacts.

Thank you for your help, but that's not quite what i was asking. You see, as wallpaper it's fine, no problems whatsoever, it's when this wallpaper is blurry i'm seeing those artifacts. Could you please try to use edge panel in a dark room ( i used bathroom with the lights out) with medium brightness?
And unfortunately you cannot capture it on screenshot, would you be so kind just to tell me if there anything wrong with the image?
Thank you again

I've asked for help on different forums, and i've been told that it can actually be something of a normal state, amoled displays are great at showing black color, but grey-ish in low lit environment and with low brightness can show this simptoms. So i don't know, maybe we should just ignore it. I'll continue research on that subject.
Same here!
No, that's not just your phone. I have the same problem with my s8+ too. All black wallpapers that I've used with bright objects in it causes that annoying 'artifact.' I see it whenever I had to put my PIN on my phone in a dark room. It is annoying! other than that, everything seems ok so i'm guessing that it's caused by a bug.
