Droid Turbo Price and Pics ( Moto Maxx 2) - Droid Ultra General

Hello guys, yesterday i was reading the android news and i found about motorola registering Moto Maxx, as a unbranded name (unlike DROID MAXX) so that could be the possible next generation of our beloved maxx phones, i really hope its not Verizon exclusive this time, so we can get updates as fast as Moto x+1, or whatever name gets at the end and with no inffluence of the carrier making decisions on the look of the OS, dialer and other stuff.
Moto Maxx Article: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/07/30/moto-maxx-trademarked-by-motorola-for-new-phone/
so far we know this about moto x+1:
snapdragon 800 (included voice recognition on the chip)
2 gb ram
5.2'' 1080p screen
32gb internal + Sd slot
2900 mah battery
12mpx camera (hope its good)
so far nothing about wireless charging
so the places Moto Maxx can improve its the battery (at least 3500mah) and wireless charging for those who want to expend extra for these features.
So what do you guys think so far?
im willing to buy the new maxx if its gonna have the updates as fast a moto x+1 and including all features, not changing looks or dialers or stuff like that like now because of verizon.
Edit:
Latest Specs:
5.2'' Screen at 2k (2560×1440)
Snapdragon 805 @.265Ghz
3Gb of Ram
21 Megapixel Camera
3900mAh Battery
Wireless Charging
NFC
Turbo Charging Included

We also know that there is a 5.9" Moto phone code named 'Shamu' in the works. MotoMaxx could be the title for that as well. X+1 could be 5.2 and Moto Maxx could be the 5.9"

its belived to be the new nexus 6

If there's no Developer Edition, I'm not buying. If we find an unlock method for the next gen, Motorola can easily lock the BL with an OTA quite like the RAZR HD because no legitimate method would exist...
Also, if the Snapdragon 800 always listening core is used instead of the low power one like on the current models, the battery would get sucked down faster with the same capacity battery on the next model, would it not? I love this thing too much to let it go anyways.

It better not be that picture leaked with the woven black back.
I keep reading 1.7gbs worth of ram. Should be 3+.
Sent from my unlocked consumer edition Motorola Droid Maxx xt1080m.

The snapdragon 8xx always listening feature is supposed to be low power. Baffles me why other manufacturers, like LG in the G3 didn't include that. It is the absolute killer feature of the Maxx.
I'm excited for the next generation Maxx, I've picked up a G3 for the big display, but surely miss always listening and notifications.

Highly doubt it will be the successor to our phones...as it will almost certainly fall in line with the Moto X family...
However...its very likely that there will be a VZW exclusive Droid counterpart...and THAT would be the successor to out phones...
We still know next to nothing concrete about the Droid Quantum or the Droid Titan

You know. My camera became suddenly way better after the last update and I was happy with it since they added exposure control . I'm a bit ticked that it wasn't this good from day 1. HDR is really useful now too.

I guess I'm just not understanding what your saying. Are you saying that when you touch the screen to do autofocus it also does auto exposure or gives you a setting for exposure.

I will definitely be ordering through comcast. Hopefully they have a $200 visa deal and not the usual $100-150
Moto Trade up was great too. Wonder if they'll revise that? I got my current maxx September 9th and was able to get the price adjusted for a Verizon30 promo and got the trade up.
I hope we see 3gbs of ram.

I have the maxx but the camera is horrid. I keep checking the back to see if the plastic is off the camera. Anyone play with both phones? Is the g2 UI at least bearable and how do the battery usage compare?

Haven't make a purchase but I am also stuck deciding between the 2. What is important to me is root access and tethering, camera less so. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems from reading the Ultra/Maxx forums that root could permanently disappear with the next OTA. Or I could get the Maxx developer edition, probably have permanent root (am I wrong here also) and perpetuate my unlimited data plan.
Just seems like there is a lot more developer activity happening for the G2. Also battery life appears comparable to the Maxx.

FYI Hashcode just released safestrap for MotoX (and so very likely the Maxx). Should be able to use that to grab updates/updated roms.
I own both phones and the G2 is better then the Maxx in every aspect. Hardware (processor, audio chip set, screen, ir blaster), UI customization, camera, development, except for build quality. The Maxx has Kevlar backing and a louder speaker vs shiny plastic and I think mono speaker. You could say better battery and radio but honestly it's about same strangely.

I personally base my decision off the software of each phone. I had an s4 and while it was good I enjoy my Maxx leaps and bounds more than I did my s4. The s4 and g2 are different but they are both skinned versions of Android where the Maxx is mostly stock. Also the active notifications and the touchless control are features I've actually used in the short time I've had it, yet I never used the s4's features. Finally, my maxx has yet to lag at all due to the fact that stock android runs smoother than most skinned versions. Just my 2 cents
I really wish that people would relax about the specs of phones these days. The quad cores are so freaking overkill on a phone it's silly. The Maxx is totally optimized as a phone and runs as smoothly as ant phone on the market. And if you're counting cores, the maxx has 8. By my count, that's double the G2. The 1080 vs 720 screen? Are you kidding me? It's a 5 inch screen! The human eye cant tell, people. it's a joke!
The maxx is a better phone. It's bare-bones android and has some incredibly cool, useful stuff. Knock on? big woop. give me touchless control and active notifications over that.
It's pissing in the wind, I know. But all this spec war nonsense is nothing but that. Nonsense.

Thank you for this. It's refreshing to see someone else with a bit of sense. While I will say the G2 has a nice camera, everything else about it seems cheap to me. I hate shiney plastic. Another reason I sold my S4, Note 2, S3 and the other phones I've used in the past several months.
I love Motorola's build quality. Even the One has had some quality control issues (seams not lining up).
Anyway, still befuddled as to why people praise other devices and how much better they are in a Droid forum.... Opinions are fine, but at least put some facts in or anything more than "it's just better" because I said so.

if its about the camera quality..then I would say G2 is better than Maxxx....but if it is Motorola vs LG then I will say Motorola is far much better than LG...because the build of Motorola is very much impressive as comparable to LG
Being that I finally got my maxx and have played with the G2 bunch of times.. We have a g2 on display at our store now.. I would choose the maxx.. Besides the camera which is getting fixed with a software update its a great phone.. I can't really find anything wrong with it to complain about

The maxx has a total of 6 cores. 2 for the cpu and 4 for the gpu. And IMHO, that droid maxx is perfect except for the terrible camera software (which is fixed with a 3rd party camera app like camera360 ultimate), the lack of external storage, and the inability to remove the battery. I LOVE the minimalistic version of android! This phone NEVER lags! <3

1) Every Adreno 320 has x4 cores(Nexus 4, HTC one, S4 US ver), Moto is the only one that places any emphasis on this
2) The LP contextual core and natural whatever shouldn't even be considered as cores. Why? Because every little thing would be counted into the core total. Let's take the S600 SoC for instance. It has the 320(x4 core), x4 CPU, and an audio DSP(x1), does this mean it's a 9-core system?
Moto's interpretation of cores is misleading and is a marketing scheme.

Without any real standard as to what constitutes a "core" in the mobile space, as opposed to the PC world, I think it's important now that companies are starting to be "creative" with their marketing that we specifically call out what they are saying are cores, lest we be taken by surprise.

The iPhone 5s has two cores. It runs circles around a 4 core Samsung phone. Ignore the core BS.

Nexus Users

Do you guys think there'll be a surge of orders from Nexus users who don't want to upgrade to a phone as big as the Nexus 6?
The new Moto X is the closest to a Nexus phone now (not phablet).
I think it's more likely that they stick with the Nexus 5 and pray Google comes back down to earth next year. I can't imagine that releasing a 5.9" phone as your one and only is going to pay off.
Yeah, I think the Moto X might pick of a few Nexus users (myself included) if the next Nexus device really only offers a 6" screen. But I suspect the reasons people want a Nexus device go deeper than that. The 1st Gen. Moto X got almost no development. If you want the roms and the hacks and all that, nothing is like the Nexus (and the Moto X is far from 2nd runner up, in terms of amount of development). So the near stock rom on the Moto X is a bit of a mirage. I'm still not sure I'm ready to make the jump and lose out on the development options (as well as the increased control and potential privacy offered by something like Cyanogen, over any manufacturer maintained rom).
Also the price on the Nexus has always been at least $100 lower than what a Moto X goes for. That's going to be a big deciding factor. Nothing talks like money.
But for people who aren't into the roms and just like the stock Android experience and don't care about price so much, maybe some of them will jump ship from the Nexus.
Severely doubt a 5.92" screen... 5.2" is more likely. Otherwise, the other released and confirmed specs look good. Just depends on battery life for me.

Literally everything is pointing to a 5.9" screen. No one is even acknowledging that a 5.2" device is even in the works any more. More likely the 5.2" phone everyone was talking about was the Droid Turbo.
Are the Nexus 5 and Moto X using the same size sim?
EDIT: Nope. Curses.
Yea cause I'm most likely one of them. I think the better speakers is what I want most. Weak speakers is the only thing I don't like about the Nexus
I hope I don't offend some people, but it seems a sizable percentage of Nexus people look down on the Moto X because they think it's an overpriced stock Android phone and think it cost too much. This is also true with OPO users. They think just because a phone use stock Android it automatically worth less. They don't take in consideration the difference in hardware design and add-on features. I just think installing CM on the X just take away all the great things about it.

I was a Nexus 4 user, and why I got the Moto X is because my n4 was dying on me. Also, it's a nice phone, and the added hardware and software tweaks is worth enough for the price imo. I just want a clean stock experience, and that is why I like both the Nexus and Moto X

Nexus user here - owned every Nexus phone since the original. I've picked up a Moto X simply because this year's Nexus is too large. But I agree with the analysis here - the X is a good substitute, but it isn't quite the same thing and I hope we won't see any negatives from that. If we don't get L pronto I will be complaining all over Twitter :crying:
I bought the nexus 5 first and the moto x after but sold my nexus 5 and used the moto x exclusively. My wife got a new iphone so now i'm using her nexus 5.
Things i like since moving to the Nexus 5
larger crisper screen.
snappier performance (very noticable) whether in games, browsing, and using google now voice commands, everything just comes quicker and faster.
willingness to take more pictures because it has a better camera
Things i REALLY miss from the moto X
Active display. LED light from N5 doesn't cut it for me anymore
Touchless controls. I can't wake my phone from sleep. I don't use it much but when I want to I can't with the N5
--mics Moto's mics are awesome. I don't have to raise my voice like I do with the N5 when using the OK google command.
* on the N5 i have the google voice detection turned on for all screens and it drains the battery a little more. When plugged in, i leave the screen on so I have somewhat of touchless control.
Speaker - The moto's speaker is super loud compared to the N5.
Moto Assist - I use "AGENT" for the N5 but it's just not the same. The text reading and replying is very similar but with the Moto's mics the experience is better on the moto, but agent works very well as an alternative. Incoming calls aren't read out loud to you in Agent but they are in Moto Assist. AGENT relies on connecting to a trusted device in order for drive mode to come on while moto assist is able to detect when you're driving even w/o connecting to the trusted bluetooth device.
Battery life - i consistently get an hour more of SOT time with the moto over the N5 with just about the exact same type of usage.
There are a few other quirks between the two but these are the major ones for me.
The Moto X 2014 seems to blend both of these phones together and that's why I'm really wanting it, despite the battery life complaints. If it's equal to or greater to the moto x 2013 I'll probably get it. ESPECIALLY if the moto nexus doesn't have the moto tweaks. I doubt it does but i'm holding onto that small sliver of hope it does. These moto enhancements are very very very usual and i wish Google would bake these into Android but then Moto wouldn't be as unique any longer.

Dynamic Notifications is a nice substitute to use on the N5.
The N6/X at 5.9" is too big.
My take on it is that Motorola provides the nearest to Nexus experience (aside from GPE editions), with some extras in the sensors/software. The new Moto X is of the same hardware generation as the Nexus 5, so I think most will stick with the 5 unless they want a larger phone, and those will go to the 6 (which is about 1/2 generation newer if we believe the Snapdragon 805 [I almost called it a dragonball - now that will show my age in the mobile chip world] rumor). The phone jumpers will end up trying both the X and the 6, and may end up back at the 5.
I've been scratching my head between a Nexus 5 and Moto X to replace my work-supplied blackberry (company started to support Android in August) and think I am about to pull the trigger on the X. I thought about the M8 GPE, but holding both the new X and the M8 yesterday, the X definitely won out in-hand.

It's actually has some better features but it was ugly to look at from an angle since the n5 doesn't have the best viewing angles. Plus the turn screen on when pulling out of the pocket didn't work as well as the moto. Another feature I really like. Saves that power button.

Also, the battery drain will be a little bit more since the n5 screen is LCD. Having an active display like feature is made for amoled screens if you want to conserve battery

I'm considering the Moto X but I am waiting to see if a root method (an prefereably an easy way to unlock the bootloader like the first gen Moto X) appears for the non-pure edition devices. If that doesn't happen by January, I may just have to rock a stupidly huge device. Being able to root and customize/backup/automate to my heart's desire is the most important feature of a phone to me. Second is stock Android and fast updates (so obviously the Moto X meets that).
For those of us on Verizon who have suffered through the Galaxy Nexus' shortcomings (late / no updates) and the fact that the N4 and N5 weren't available on VZW. ---- the new MOTO X is really the only reasonable choice. Just ordered mine on Sunday to replace my ancient Galaxy Nexus. I'm hoping it is "pure enough". I do need someone to gain root though....

I know. Almost 3yrs at this point. But what was I gonna do? We have unlimited data on our two phones, and get a nice discount through my wife's work. And she travels in places like Kentucky and West Virginia so the Verizon coverage is a big deal. If it was just me I would've switched to T-Mobile already. So, considering that....what could I do but keep the Galaxy Nexus? I couldn't stand Samsung's crapware etc, and nothing else interested me. The new X is the first thing that seems like a real option.
I hope it lives up to my expectations.
My wife is still rocking a Motorola Droid Razr. If you think the Galaxy Nexus struggles to function now you should try her phone....she gave up before me, and she still uses a Blackberry Curve for work.

I am thinking why this needed its own thread when the "Nexus 6: What Do you think?" Thread could have easily housed this opinion for conversation sake.
Also from what I understand, the Camera and Battery are poorly optimized compared to the N6 with 5.0/Volta. A bigger battery and camera do not mean **** if it is not optimized with the proper software/configuration, which considering that is all in the hands of Verizon I am not holding my breath on any speedy updates regardless on who makes the phone.
if the turbo had a unlockable bootloader and the ability to flash custom roms that would be a toughy for me

The 2013 Droid/Verizon(Moto X/Ultra/Mini/Maxx) line has been the first to receive updates outside of Nexus devices. So much for that argument.
I am debating Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo as well.
Droid Turbo sizing is good and outside of the Nexus phones it is the most stock android experience.
I want root and the smoothest most consistent camera of the two and from what I read, that is the Nexus.
The Turbo will be updated to perform better over time. If not perfect at first, it will be tightened up.
I wanted a device with a screen similar to the Note 4, so no the Droid Turbo would not have been perfect for me.
I would buy it too, in addition to get the Moto Suite/Moto Voice, Moto Display, etc. Unfortunately, I have no choice but a GSM Phone.

There is a GSM version of this phone that went through the FCC that is listed as electrically identical.
This is rumored to be the Moto X Play and a version was released in Latin America as the Moto Maxx.

Moto X Play & Moto X Style Announced - Extremely Disappointed!!

http://www.redmondpie.com/moto-x-style-moto-x-play-announced-specs-release-date-price/
I think it's officially time for me to move onto something else after my Moto X 2nd Gen!
Here's what completely puts me off upgrading to the Moto X Play (Style is completely out of the question!!!):
-SIZE!!!
-Heavier
-Thicker
-No 802.11ac WiFi
-Almost same type of processor!
-No 4k video recording
-Same single speaker design instead of dual speakers
-No OIS (this should be standard by now for a 2015 flagship!!!)
Are any of you guys enticed by this crap?? Seems like selling their soul to the devil (Lenovo) has made them completely lose it!
Apparently the Moto X Style has an LCD display?????? I take it no Moto Display on this version then??
Extremely disappointed in Motorola but those of you that used to whinge about having a micro SD slot will be over the moon lol.
This is what is called a flounce?

I'm assuming you aren't in the US, since that phone won't even be available to us. I'll see what the next nexus phones are like, but chances are it will come down to the camera for me this time around

I was surprised that they didn't talk about software improvements... I was hoping Motorola would add more assist/voice features
But price is a huge positive....
I think I'll keep hold of my X 2014 for another year and go for the iPhone 7 next year.
I'll really miss Tasker and Moto Voice though

Yeah, I am totaly disappointed too. I will keep my moto x too and will now try to root it.
Moto Display in a LCD is a big challange.
The moto x is always not the flagship model of the motorola.
The Droid Turbo did!
But the next version of Droid has not even announced yet

The X Play version isn't their flagship anymore, it's like a higher-mid tier option. And considering its battery size at a price point that starts at $300 dollars, I'd say you're getting a pretty good deal. The 2014 X retailed at $500 in case you don't remember.

Well I would have called the nexus 6 their flagship of 2014 instead of the turbo since the droid line was Verizon exclusive.

The X play is more like the step between the MOTO G and the MOTO X. It doesn't look like the nexus is returning to Motorola this year so the new MOTO X probably will be their flagship device. I mean 6 core processor, 21 megapixel camera, 5 megapixel front facing camera.
What could come out topping that on Motorola's end? Oh ya and 5.7 inch full resolution screen. As well as a micro SD slot returning. Did you guys read the specs? What more do you want out of a phone

Something that's as sleek as the Moto X 2014??
Something that's as thin and compact in my hand?
Metal back?
These things are huge and I believe this is gonna be their downfall.
I've been a massive Moto X fan since they first released the very first Moto X but I really can't stand the new models and am sad that I'll be forced to move to another device (most likely an iPhone).

I'm pretty sure the majority of users here will happily trade an extra millimeter of thickness to accommodate a bigger battery.
You'll be saying the same thing when the Moto X 2016 is announced lol. It seems to be getting bigger each year. I'm certain next year's model will hit 6 inches in screen size like the Nexus 6.

Very disappointed in the new Moto X Style announcement. 5.7" is way too big. 5.2" is my limit. Also the snapdragon 800 series 808 or 810 are very disappointing to me along with losing the Amoled display. I will be holding onto my 2014 Moto X until next year.

I bought the new Moto G, because hell, it's $220, why not? And then will wait to see what the next Nexus is like. I agree, 5.7 is just too damn big.
Sounds like I'm one of the few who likes the new size. It's physically about the same size as the iPhone 6+ which fits in my pocket fine and the larger size is great for movies and games when coupled with the stereo speakers.
I also prefer the LCD to AMOLED. MotoDisplay is still going to be doable and with LCDs becoming more and more efficient it shouldn't have a huge impact on battery life.

Exactly my thoughts on it!
Moto X Play seems a downgrade to me in all aspects other than the battery department. I'll reserve my judgement on the 21MP camera until it's been properly tested.
Another phone I'm now considering is the Z4 Compact if it loses some fat.

How is a one carrier phone the flagship? The Moto X is, has been and will be the flagship.
I don't mind the new size. As I get older a bigger screen is good for my eyes, lol. I did say I'd pick my next phone on getting at least a half way decent camera so that will determine it for me. I was also thinking having expandable storage would be important for my purposes so it's nice that Motorola is kind of bucking that trend.
It'll be interesting to see what Google come up with.

So true! I use my phone as much as a mobile computing device as a phone so a big screen is good for me too. I can see how guys who want to carry the phone in their pocket don't like larger phones and if you can read those smaller screens great but I can't.

Moto G Turbo released!!!!!

Moto G 3rd Gen extended version is supposedly released with some bumped up feature... :good:
Source http://www.phonearena.com/news/Moto...device-will-be-released-November-13th_id75508
including bump in price
Specs sound like the Moto X Play.

Sadly the screen is HD, Moto corrected his mistake later.

I was also feeling cheated but when I seen the price I wasn't still thinking to be cheated. It's something like 287€ that's very different from the 197€ of the moto g 2015 16Gb. It's another price zone and maybe it will never be relased in other country than mexico. I think that moto g 2015 will have better diffusion because of his very nice rapport quality/price.

I did at first as well, but comparing the preliminary specs of the G Turbo to the Moto X Play, might as well buy the X play if you want the Snapdragon 615 SoC as it has a much higher capacity battery than the new G Turbo.
I would imagine the Moto G Turbo would at least be usable in the US, since it will likely be sold as GSM unlocked? Either way, I am happy with my G3, the fact that the display is 720p helps with the performance that the Adreno 306 can offer. I wonder how the Adreno 405 does at 1080p resolution, time to look at some benchmarks.
Would seem odd to only release a higher priced phone in a developing market. I'd bet we see this come to the US soon.
Dont go for the screen resolution as it is yet not confirm its just a rumor.....

According to several articles moto corrected them the rumors, stating it was the same 720 resolution as the Moto G. IMO, this is good. All the reviews for the 615 budget phones come back with some choppy performance from time to time. They are also all 1080. Thus, 720 ought to be smoother on that processor, no? Also, if it is kept to 720, the battery will hopefully still be a strong contender.
I can't wait to see some hands on numbers, but this seems like the phone for me. I like the G, except that 410 processor scared me a bit. The 615 will likely help keep the phone 'future proof'?

For that price, it's no longer a budget phone.

Really? Isn't the Play just the G turbo with a larger battery (we don't have it here in the US)? Wow. Wonder if the 615 is a bust? I heard some of the 800 series ended up being bad. Wonder if I should really wait for the G turbo or just grab a G 2gb...

If they make it full HD with that battery capacity, you should probably skip on that.
Besides, next generation of chipsets should be out soon. Wait for a month or two, and you'll have plenty of more options.

Might be worth the wait, though, for what it's worth the turbo has a 720 display. The initial 1080 reports were false.

Actual specs available here... I imagine it performs pretty well with the 720 display and Adreno 405. I would like to see some benchmarks for this device, there don't seem to be any out there yet.

1080p screen on the Moto X Play and it shows, there are lots and lots of micro lags all the time, the GPU really struggles with 1080p apparently. That said i would still rather have my MXP than my original Nexus 5.

Ahh, that explains it. So, in the Moto G that 615 will likely be smooth since it's a 720 display. Like it was said earlier, I'd like to see benchmarks.
Wonder if / when we'll see additional markets announced.

... Anyone seeing hands on reviews for this phone? I understand it is only released in Mexico, but country specific releases haven't stopped tech news in the past. I really want to know how the 615 fairs with the 720. We already know it's a rough one with 1080. I have high hopes moto is onto something.

I've been searching for the same. I think it's mostly a mexico release.
Snapdragon 430 and 617 have been launched. I hope Moto waits and launches the next Moto G with the updated processors, preferrably in April or May.
