[Q] Messed up my phone real good - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people of the world!
I have a LG D802 rooted 16GB, and it all started when I tried using flashify to install twrp. It said that it flashed, and without any backups, I tried it and when I tried it out, to my horror it wasn´t working saying secure boot error and i couln´t access recovery mode and download mode. After a while I tried No recovery mode and download mode and etc.. IT WORKED!! well sorta... I accidently pulled out the lg cable before i could replace the tz.img and recovery.img and now my phone is stuck in twrp, and when I try the tot method, my computer doesn´t react in any way to my phone and in the phone, the blue lines should be moving, but in my phone they aren´t. Seems like my phone always freezes then and I don´t know why. Also when I go twrp, with usb already connected, then the buttons don´t work. So I am in a crappy situation, also i don´t know how i could get back to replace them, and this is why I am asking the smart people of xda for help :fingers-crossed:

Thanks.
I just tried to do an OTA update while rooted and got the continuous TWRP boot loop.
This fixed it in no time at all!

Flashed a D802 on my VS980 Verizon G2

Alright like a idiot I downloaded a international rom and didn't pay attention...flashed in TWRP and went to reboot so it obviously doesn't work. Tried to use the Flashtool to revert back to the stock Verizon software and it throws the error of the Device Model is different. IMEI is right, BIN, DLL, SWV, SWOV all show the VS980 since I'm trying to flash that.
So have I killed it completely or is there a way to recover? Sure hope there is
I can get into the download mode still
Also appears that it boots into fastboot and can send fastboot commands via the command prompt
Wow this dropped quick...just putting this to the top so I can hopefully get it up and running quicker.
Please check the same thread about LG repair cost. It looks like you need to repair it. you have mismatch in model name in build.prop, so there is no solution as for now. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506208
Ya I saw that after this morning...was hoping it wouldn't come to that. Mine says rooted on the download screen so hopefully that doesn't cause a issue when I send it in.
have you tried pushing a .img using fastboot, as you seem to be able to get to it?

Nope as I'm not exactly sure which one I didn't want to attempt anything and break it further
If you could point me to the right one I would appreciate it

Hey man are you able to access recovery at all by holding down Vol down+Power, releasing it when the LG splash screen appears for a sec, and then immediately pressing it again? I saw someone a day or two ago was able to put a ROM on a flash drive and install it from there in TWRP.
Mine actually seems to be booting into fastboot when I hold down the power button and it reboots. I can't get it to turn off completely, I can get into download mode if I hold down volume up and power if it's plugged into the computer. If I hold down the power button it will reboot and seems to be in some sort of fastboot when it tries to power on

Makes sense and should be easy enough except that thread makes it out that the boot.img really wouldn't change the device model. Unless it contains it in the img file
Which .img file would I be pushing? The boot.img?
I guess it would be more like which one? Would I be able to just used the one from say CleanRom?
Wohoo! Finally got it up and going...thought for sure it was toast.
I flashed the boot.img through fastboot and then was getting "secure boot unsuccessful" on the screen when it tried to boot. Kept trying to get it into the recovery and it finally did so when it went to the splash screen about pressing the power it put me into TWRP.
I tried to restore the backup that I had stored and it started to but then turned off, I'm not sure if it was because the battery was so low or if it was just the jacked up file structure but it wouldn't get any father than the LG splash screen. The LED would flash green then blue and it would just sit there.
That was when I thought for sure it was toast, let it sit and charge for awhile and still couldn't get back into the recovery but was able to get into download mode. Flashed the stock software via LG Tools and it finally booted.
Not sure if anyone else will run into this issue but now it's documented lol
help a bro

What's the command input for the push
All I know is its the along the line of push/c:/(boot.img location)
It's more like "fastboot flash boot boot.img" you can't push it via adb, unless you're already in TWRP.

Will the phone boot normally so you can get to play store or it just won't boot at all? Are you using volume down and power, just making sure? Sometimes it can be finnicky like that.

ok i just tried it manually and the factory reset screen showed up, but when i pushed the power button twice the screen went black with the backlight on...
OK, try downloading quick boot from play store and TWRP from play store. Quick Boot will give you an option to reboot directly to recovery, try that first. Then, if that doesn't work, you can try running TWRP app and that allows you to flash a new recovery using the TWRP interface whole your phone is running. You may want to go to the TWRP website and download the most current version for your model first.
Edit: just use the TWRP app to install or reinstall the actual recovery you downloaded from the TWRP site linked below.

thank you i will try that now
The black screen with white lettering in the top left corner is the bootloader.
If you have adb you can download a new twrp recovery image and do a "fastboot flash recovery path_to_recovery\recovery_name.img" and then try rebooting into recovery. It should work fine.

This is what appears in the top left of the screen when the LG splash pops up for a split second and goes black if you were curious.

That being said, you need to push a working recovery onto the device. If you can get into android, then you can access ADB from there and push the working recovery. You should be able to find the latest version of vzwG2 twrp in the g2 general section.
If you can't get into android, then you're ****ed as far as I'm aware. However, if this is the case then you can send it into LG and they will fix it right up for you

I've heard some people say that LG just reflashed the phone while they left root on there. I completely formatted the phone so there was nothing left on it before I sent mine in just in case.

You can't access ADB unless youre in android or a recovery, and you are in neither. You would usually be able to access fastboot (similar to ADB) which is another safety feature so you dont get bricked, but from what i've tried in this state i haven't been able to get into either.
You can try to play around with the android partitions in QHUSB_BULK and potentially fix it if you restore a recovery or something along those lines. But like I had said, I had no success with that.
Your best bet is to send it format the device and send it into LG so they can reflash everything.
Same issue, fixed it today
I had the same issues with a non-loading boot loader & a non-booting ROM. Follow the instructions in the thread linked below to restore stock firmware, and then root, TWRP, and install a custom ROM afterwards. The link to the LG Flash Tools was not one that worked for me, but a quick google search will get you the right file (top 3 results proved fruitful for me).

Black screen on recovery boot

So I rooted my g2 then I used clockwork mod app to install recovery. Well I booted to recovery and it's just sets at a black screen. When plugged into a computer it pops up to format like 30 drives. I have tried the recovery batch file for cwm and it results in the same thing. Tried flashify and flashing twrp and still have the same thing. Please I have no idea what else to do.

I ended up flashing back to stock and then rooted with ioroot15 and then followed these instructions http://www.android.gs/install-twrp-recovery-lg-g2/ It worked.
But me being an idiot didn't take my titanium backup off the phone before the flash so I lost all my settings. #draganddrop #oopsies

Hello,
I am on VS98012B as well. I rooted with 'ioroot24' .. That all went fine. Now when I am trying to install a custom recovery (got botched the first couple times) ... now I can not get the phone to pop up the RSA fingerprint and when I try to boot into recovery using ADB commands or quickboot the phone just goes to a black screen and if it is plugged into the computer (windows 7) it pops up a bunch of different drives at me like endleesss was having. I could use and would appreciate some pointers!
Thanks!

I am getting this exact same problem, I used ioroot25, which also went fine. When I go to reboot into recovery I just get a black screen. When I boot into recovery with it plugged into my computer I also get Windows telling me that I need to format a bunch of drives before I can use them. I also get one drive that lets me open and it has a "images" folder in it, with a bunch of other files inside that. Not sure what is going on but any help would be awesome.

Seeing this exact same thing after going to a 4.4.2 ROM. I was coming from a 4.2.2 with TWRP 2.7 and now cannot get back in to recovery mode. I get just a black screen and also see the multiple drives popup when I plug in USB to the pc. I've tried flashing different recoveries with no luck. Hope a fix for this can be found.
Same problem but worse
I have this problem as well and have known that it needing fixing. Problem is the phone tried to auto-update to kitkat at night and now all i get is lg logo some commands in the top left then it tried to install via stock recovery. I can't get away from this as far as I know yet. I can't get to dl mode to just flash stock. I feel i might be completely boned. I tried pulling the battery ribbon to see if that would kick it out of this commanding it into recovery but I really don't know what to do at all at this point. Can someone help please or atleast tell me im boned so i can try to salvage. maybe do a warranty replacement. Thanks in advance
This thread will help with the "drives popping up", "black screen" etc..
--------------------------
For the ones with fastboot issue who can't enter dload mode:
download yor corresponding laf.img
Download this
extract it, put your laf.img inside(rename laf.bin to laf.img if needed), run "run this", you should be able to boot to download mode.

I was able to follow all of the directions in that post though it doesn't seem to have done the trick. I have left a post in that thread asking their opinion on things but idk if it will be answered since it is such a large post.
If you have any experience with these partitions, could you direct me to a way to stop the device from trying to run the OTA. This seems to be the largest problem as to why its not working since it pushes itself into recovery every boot, though it seems the recovery partition flash didn't take for some reason.
I am using 64-bit Ubuntu could that be an issue?

[Q] Sprint LG G2 (LS980) Stuck in Bootloop

Well it's been a while since I broke a phone, so here I am!.... again
LS980. TWRP Rooted. Failed CM. Now stuck in boot loop.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit. I have latest LG drivers. Phone can boot into recovery but nothing else. I cannot boot into LG's "Download Mode". I can get into the "Hard Recovery Mode" which doesn't work anyway (Vol Up + Power). From recovery I can select to wipe cash and data and I can select to install from sdcard (no cards on this thing) or from ADB. When selecting ADB and trying to sideload stuff to it, it tries to load but always fails. If I try to push stuff it always comes back :closed
I cannot access any form of Fastboot. All i can do is let is loop or enter recovery. Since it seems to be the only thing I can access, can someone please assist me in what I should be trying to sideload that might get me a step further? I cannot fastboot so anything there isn't an option. Seemingly all I can try to do is sideload something. What... I'm not really sure. And no :crying: I don't have a backup.
Please help!

You were right, I was doing it wrong. Once I got into download mode it went easy.
Response to others, I found that if I held vol down by itself long enough, the phone would stop bootlooping and shut off. I could then properly go into download mode.

1. Hold the power button until the device is OFF.
2. Download LG drivers to the PC (LG VZW_United_WHQL_v2.11.1) and LG mobile support tool (B2CAppSetup).
3. Install these packages.
4. Plug in you USB cable into the phone but not the computer.
5. Hold volume up and insert the USB cable to the PC- the phone should boot to 'download mode'.
6. Open the support tool and click Options>Upgrade Recovery, follow the prompts.
7. At the first prompt indentify your phone using IMEI/ESN, then click OK
8. Let it do its thing, the phone will reboot and most likely have a bunch of error messages and some FC's. Just hit okay to all messages, the phone will settle after 2 minutes or so.
9. Download freegee from market and reflash recovery of your choice.
10. Make sure you have a ROM saved to the SD to flash
11. Use freegee to reboot to recovery
12. Once in recovery you can reflash the ROM as normal.
13. Reboot and Profit!
*$* Or you could go back to Stock and start fresh!
*$* BEFORE ANY FLASH ALWAYS STOP and MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP!
Good Luck and if you get stuck let me know

It says wrong device, and at the download screen where my phone says rooted it says the model is a D802! Somehow this info got jacked up! I can almost make it through the D802 flash but it fails also. I only did that to confirm my suspicion that the phone thinks its a different model. I'm open to anything, I've tried it all.

I think that's my only option. The Note? That's quite the trade off. One last question, did you say rooted at the download screen even though it wasn't?

do you have the LG mobile support tool? If so we can use it to get past this, I did it once recently on my G2. If you still need assistance just say so..

How? My phone only boots to download or stock recovery. What mode does the phone need to be in for the tool to work? I can get the process started but the tool locks up every time.

it still said rooted ... I told the tech straight up it was my fault and mentioned I wished I had gotten the n3 and he said it was on the list as an approved replacement I was stoked

You were right, I was doing it wrong. Once I got into download mode it went easy.
Response to others, I found that if I held vol down by itself long enough, the phone would stop bootlooping and shut off. I could then properly go into download mode.
Thanks for the help

How was this resolved?

[Q] Pretty sure my LG G2 is bricked...Permanantly.....

So Verizon just released their 25B update. I did not want to accept it, as I was rooted and I have a custom recovery. When I was unlocking the screen I accidentally pressed install. It said shutting down, so I held down the power button and shut it down before It went to "update" When I turned the phone back on, I went into recovery and restored and rebooted. I got to the LG logo and it booted me into TWRP. So I then tried another restore point and it did the same thing. Any thing I can do?
Maybe try factory wipe in TWRP? and see the device will boot normally?

We should be able to get this fixed.
Do you ave access to a windows PC ? If so You could enter Download mode and flash the stock TOT file or KDZ file for your phone.
Since your in ubuntu , could you check if the Phone enumerates as a Disk drive ? If so Can you check as what device it shows up ?
EG /dev/sdb or sdc or sdd . Once you have that Could you run this command and output what it says ?
gdisk -l /dev/sdX (Replace X with the actual character that the phone shows up as).
:good:
I'm sorry. I forgot to say no download mode either. I still have my LG flash tool from a soft brick before.im not that good at explaining things that's why I accidentally left it out

If you have access to twrp I think this is what you need.
I had no idea about that. Thank you so much. But I just got finished with Verizon and they are sending me a new phone
