[Q] Sprint LG G2 (LS980) Stuck in Bootloop - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well it's been a while since I broke a phone, so here I am!.... again
LS980. TWRP Rooted. Failed CM. Now stuck in boot loop.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit. I have latest LG drivers. Phone can boot into recovery but nothing else. I cannot boot into LG's "Download Mode". I can get into the "Hard Recovery Mode" which doesn't work anyway (Vol Up + Power). From recovery I can select to wipe cash and data and I can select to install from sdcard (no cards on this thing) or from ADB. When selecting ADB and trying to sideload stuff to it, it tries to load but always fails. If I try to push stuff it always comes back :closed
I cannot access any form of Fastboot. All i can do is let is loop or enter recovery. Since it seems to be the only thing I can access, can someone please assist me in what I should be trying to sideload that might get me a step further? I cannot fastboot so anything there isn't an option. Seemingly all I can try to do is sideload something. What... I'm not really sure. And no :crying: I don't have a backup.
Please help!

I am on verizon. Had this happen to me once. Are you SURE you are hitting the buttons at the right time for download? I have never heard of this failing..on any phone. I would almost bet it's accessible and you aren't hitting it in time..maybe? Good luck!

Still no luck

do you have the LG mobile support tool? If so we can use it to get past this, I did it once recently on my G2. If you still need assistance just say so..

Hey so when you try adb sideload it starts up then fails? Have you tried just pushing to recovery with adb also? Universal drivers? Sorry for all the questions just trying to help

You were right, I was doing it wrong. Once I got into download mode it went easy.
Response to others, I found that if I held vol down by itself long enough, the phone would stop bootlooping and shut off. I could then properly go into download mode.
Thanks for the help

1. Hold the power button until the device is OFF.
2. Download LG drivers to the PC (LG VZW_United_WHQL_v2.11.1) and LG mobile support tool (B2CAppSetup).
3. Install these packages.
4. Plug in you USB cable into the phone but not the computer.
5. Hold volume up and insert the USB cable to the PC- the phone should boot to 'download mode'.
6. Open the support tool and click Options>Upgrade Recovery, follow the prompts.
7. At the first prompt indentify your phone using IMEI/ESN, then click OK
8. Let it do its thing, the phone will reboot and most likely have a bunch of error messages and some FC's. Just hit okay to all messages, the phone will settle after 2 minutes or so.
9. Download freegee from market and reflash recovery of your choice.
10. Make sure you have a ROM saved to the SD to flash
11. Use freegee to reboot to recovery
12. Once in recovery you can reflash the ROM as normal.
13. Reboot and Profit!
*$* Or you could go back to Stock and start fresh!
*$* BEFORE ANY FLASH ALWAYS STOP and MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP!
Good Luck and if you get stuck let me know

Similar issue
I'm stuck in bootloop, no custom recovery or root. All data has been deleted. I have tried the LG support tool, but it locks up. It also tells me my device is a test model, something bad has happened. I can get into download mode but can't flash stock, via the flash tool. It says wrong device, and at the download screen where my phone says rooted it says the model is a D802! Somehow this info got jacked up! I can almost make it through the D802 flash but it fails also. I only did that to confirm my suspicion that the phone thinks its a different model. I'm open to anything, I've tried it all.

I think that's my only option. The Note? That's quite the trade off. One last question, did you say rooted at the download screen even though it wasn't?

How? My phone only boots to download or stock recovery. What mode does the phone need to be in for the tool to work? I can get the process started but the tool locks up every time.

[Q] Royally Screw... Stuck in Fastbook (VZW model) Please Help!

First off, I searched for someone with a similar problem and couldn't find anyone in the same situation.... Also, I'm very familiar with the root/flashy/etc. process coming from a GNex
So I rooted the G2, no problem at all (before OTA). Trouble came when I tried to flash recovery. I couldn't get it to do so, but I was following a guide that stated I needed to perform the OTA before flashing TWRP.
So I finally accepted the OTA and when I did, see first pic, it clearly asked if I wanted to perform a factory reset, I accepted. Then I get dumped into Fastboot, see second pic, and I cannot get out of Fastboot at all. In addition to that, when I plug it up via USB, it won't recognize the phone at all either.
Verizon of course said I was good to take the phone back and have it replaced, but thanks to the "tell tell" message on the Factory Reset option, check first pic - top left corner, they can clearly see it's rooted and will likely not replace it, and I'm out a ton of money.....
Are there any ideas out there as to how I can recover anything????
Thanks in advance!
You not the only one! I think the recovery partition may have got corrupted from a bad CWM flash file. I get the same black screen, fast boot bull****... phone still works at least lol.
You can always flash back to stock with the lg mobile suite, got me out of a bootloop. It should fix recovery partition I would hope

Where do I go to get that?
Or is there anyway I can actually make the phone connect to my computer via USB so that I can hopefully use the Verizon Upgrade Assistant?
I used the LG mobile support tool found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
follow the steps, after the top right of that program will have drop down with "recovery update" or something to do a full restore.
I hope you can get into download mode for this, power +volume up
Good Luck!

Thanks for the thought, however that thread is assuming you have ADB access which I cannot get my computer to recognize my phone while it's in fastboot through ADB....
Downer I have a day old phone and I may have to go ahead and make an insurance claim against because I'm not paying $549 for a new one...
Or is there a way I can completely bork this so it doesn't even get to the Factory Reset option, or at least so it won't show Rooted, so I can just take it back to VZW haha???
Hold the volume up and while holding, plug in USB. Should put it in download mode. If adb then can recognize, reinstall the recovery. If not, hold the power and volume down until it starts to reboot, when you see the LG logo, let go and immediately repress them and hold until it asks you to push the power button to reset phone. When you do reset, it will actually take you to the twrp recovery.
VZW LG G2
So if u can get into download mode use the lg moble softwear to restore it.adb is not required for that

OTA Bootloop Help

I have a Verizon LG G2 I tried to flash my backed up stock recovery with Flashify so I could flash the most recent OTA. After accepting the OTA update my phone restarted, tried to install the update, hung at a black screen but was still turned on. If I power it off and back on it shows the LG logo, some white text, then goes to the same black screen. What appears to be happening is that my backup recovery did not restore properly and it's hanging when it tries to go into recovery. It's almost like my recovery partition is blank.
I've tried to follow the instructions to flash back to stock, but I do not believe I'm actually able to get my phone into download mode. When it is plugged into my windows 7 computer with the LG drivers installed it shows up in device manager as QHSUSB_BULK.
Is there any way for me to push a stock recovery, or even a custom recovery to my phone so I can somehow salvage it, or am I permanently bricked?

I'm still trying to find a solution I will post here if i have any luck. I've dug through a lot of forum posts and I think what makes us unique is the fact that we have a corrupt or blank recovery partition.

Ive looked through a lot too. and its crazy how that would happen i made sure it was rebooting correctly before i took the ota and then when i did the ota bam! only screens i can get to come up are the hardware key control mode and the factory hard reset which both go to white screens after I do them both. every one else probably has not taken the ota.

One difference in what mine is doing and what your phone is doing. I go to a solid black screen not a white screen. It's very hard to tell my phone is even turned on. I'm having to look if the back-light to verify if it's on or not. I can hold my power button for 10 seconds through one LG logo cycle and then it turns off.

I hope someone helps us out. I really cant afford a new one because the warranty is void. I was going back to stock because of all of the little bugs that need to be ironed out in roms. cause kit kat is around the corner hopefully and my problem virtually is the same i might have had my brightness on auto or something prior to that.

After following the instructions on the above link i was able to get fastboot status on my phone. It did not fully restore my phone however. I was able to flash twrp via fastboot. I was then able to boot into twrp and run the command at this link via twrp terminal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696

Ignore all the message, unplug you phone get ready to type the command, plug it in and immediately press enter to run the command. it took some trial and error, and i had to use this other post to help me out. I actually got fastboot working first, then used this post to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595 to get download mode working, and to flash twrp recovery. After that i used this post to run the command line from with twrp. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696 . I didn't have to flash the factory tot to my phone, but i have that option now because download mode is working. This process will work, there is hope for you getting your phone back. I'm fully recovered. I decided 12B is not worth it in the mean time, but if you want 12B you need to flash the factory tot and then upgrade. There is a way to root 12B, but as of this time you are unable to get Custom Recovery on it.

HEY! I'm on the d801 as well and I've been where you're at a number of times, unfortunately. But I've always gotten out. Here's the conclusion I've reached. Trying to flash directly back to stock without wiping all the partitions first is what makes the RDTool get stuck. It's like the phone runs out of memory and can't host a full Gig+ of data since your last ROM is in the way. Sorry if I'm wrong but I'm only assuming you didn't wipe everything except the Internal storage. The good thing every time this has happened to me is that your recovery partition should be intact. Mine always is, and we're on the same variant. Another thing, booting back into recovery is not impossible. It's all in the timing it takes from the first time you see the LG logo while holding volume - and the power button, but don't let go. What worked for me was to let the phone cycle between off and boot power states twice until the phone is completely off again. You may even notice the LED indicator flash red. Release your keys if the phone stays off and immediately hold the combo down again until the phone tries to boot again just don't let go of the buttons. Once it powers down again, leave the phone alone for a few minutes. Come back and this time get ready to boot into recovery. The combo button press will initiate boot but don't let go until the next time you see the LG logo flash, then quickly release and depress the vol down power up combo and hold. May take a minute longer than usual but the reset menu should pop up thereafter. Tap power 2 more times and you should back into recovery. It's worked every time for me. Let me know if you're good and whether this helped!
Good Luck,

K, now if you're only seeing the blue dots when you attach by USB your phone to PC, then you're not fully in DL mode to process the kdz. You should see a white wheel in the center of the screen when you connect and a viewing mirror near the base of your phone with ROOTED in red directly below that. And you're sure your PC is detecting your phone? You've the drivers installed? Because when RDT tells you to run the tool, you'll see some binary code in the viewing window I spoke of, the white wheel will turn and below it will be shown the COM port to which you're connected and a solid thin red bar will begin to fill a space in the viewer showing you the progress.
Also, be sure when attempting the first steps I gave you to boot into recovery that you are not USB connected. It won't work.
And, try to remember if your phone was well enough charged, should have been at least 80% full. It happened to me once that I couldn't boot recovery and my phone would go to fastboot like yours until I left it alone to charge and then I repeated the stepsvi laid out to get back into recovery. This part is paramount!
Please READ CAREFULLY
I used to be in your same situation. I thought I had bricked my phone for good. I finally figured it out. Here is my solution from my Thread.
Esteef said:
Okay, after 12+ hours of trying every method possible on XDA I finally resolved my issue. I will update the first post just incase any others care or fall into the same dilemma I was in.
The LG Mobile Support tool would not download the firmware and it would NOT ask me for my IMEI to download it either.
So my solution....
***
Installed LG Mobile Support Tool then Installed the LG Drivers. (FROM HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
BEFORE I connected the phone to the computer. I opened the LG Mobile support tool clicked (Options on the top right).
When the dropped down opened, I clicked the (Upgrade Recovery) option. THEN, is when the prompt opened to ask me what my IMEI is.
Before I entered my IMEI, I connected my phone to the computer in download mode, then proceeded to enter my IMEI and hit OK.
This is when the LG Mobile Support tool SUCCESSFULLY downloaded the latest official LG firmware and installed it.
*** BE AWARE, with the phone connected to the PC, the prompt NEVER appeared to enter my IMEI.
*** But with the phone disconnected, the prompt came up every time. This might be the trick for some people.
*** with the IMEI prompt opened, I then connected the phone , entered the IMEI, then hit OK. BOOM HERPES....
Well I'll polish this up more later. I hope this works for every LG G2 Variant and not just the T-Mobile one (D801)

Sounds good. A full charge can make all the difference. I learnt the hard way! One or more of us will be along should you need further help.
I do hope you get this sorted! I've come back from the brink too many times to not believe you won't.

You are welcome... The first time I did it too my battery was at 28% and I panicked since I got the low battery error.
I could of sworn that my phone officially became a paper weight. My heart dropped.
I'm glad you are up and running with the rest of us!

I know this thread is a bit old, but it saved my butt. Your method worked perfectly. Thank you for this post.

G2 bricked won't boot past LG

Hey guys I just got another one of these damn G2s
Anyway, got root fine on 12b and had issues trying to push the twrp recovery image to it, it kept failing for some reason. So I tried the Flashify option... and as you can tell by the thread title it worked excellently. And by excellently I mean I'm bricked.
I can get into download mode. But it won't boot past the LG logo. All I get is a black screen. Can someone help me revert to stock and get twrp installed?
Thanks:laugh: I'm using an S4 right now so no rush.
Also I'm a little illiterate on Android so take is slow and dumb it down- I don't develop and I don't code, I just enjoy other people's work as a casual user.

Try holding volume down + power
Immediately when LG appears let go of both and ONLY hold onto power, should boot into option to factory reset
Hit power button 3 times to continue.
Tried that. It processes the reset and then immediately tries to reboot, and bootloops again.

WHen your g2 is powered off just hold volumeup and connect to a PC. If it doesn't go past the blue dots then you can't enter download mode either.

The white screen where you can hard reset the phone? Yes.. I can get into it, but accepting the reset simply puts the phone back into a boot cycle.

[Q] LG G2 D802 Bricked..help me please

Hi!
I managed to get my device totally bricked.
Phone is on bootloop and I only get LG logo and then "Security Error" message. I can't enter recovery mode or download mode. Only mode I'm able to go is the "Hardware key control mode" mode, where I can see my IMEI code. I can't get windows or linux to recognize my phone. I've tried several drivers, but no luck getting my laptop recognize my phone. I have also tried couple of tutorials to solve this problem, but the main problem seems to be that I can't get my laptop to recognize my phone.
Is there anything I could do or should I just buy a new phone?
Hi Jutei,
What led to this bricking? Were you trying to install a ROM? Which ROM was it? Was it a wrong variant? Please be specific as to what you did to brick it..
Also, some people have seen success by installing this driver. Are you familiar with ADB?

Hi deathbytalkshow!
I ended up to this stage by rooting with this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887) and trying to flash with this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development-d802/rom-xenonhd-d802-t3036576).
First I wiped data and cache. Then rooted and it went trough with no problems. I tried to flash with this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager. It booted to recovery and started flashing. Soon it said that flashing failed and after reboot I found myself in this bootloop.
Hope this helps someone to help me.
Try this:
1. Turn phone off.
2. Press POWER+VOL DOWN
3. When LG Logo appears, immediately release POWER+VOL and press and hold VOL UP+VOL DOWN

Hi, I tried this and got to the factory reset window. It started to do reset, but pretty soon it booted and went back to bootloop. So this didn't help. I'll try those ADB drivers today.
Hi, tried adb drivers, but no luck. My laptop still doesn't recognize my phone. USB gives power, but beside that windows doesn't seems to notice that my device is plugged. Is there anything else I could try?
so you didnt make a backup before flashing? what recovery did you flash? i bricked my phone with rom manager before and will never use it again but i had a backup and was still able to get it to eventually boot into twrp to restore.

also if you never turned on usb debugging i dont think you can get a computer to see it unless its fully booted.

Yeah, I was stupid enough not to backup. The recovery was the stock one. Is that where I went wrong? Should I've had custom recovery installed?

I turned usb-debugging was on before phone got bricked. I think the phone should be found somehow on computer. For example this fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48765620#post48765620) needs Linux to recognize the phone, but I can't even do that. I guess the problem here is that my phone won't enter the download mode. I'm going to try with couple of different computers when I get back home from my holidays.
I also found another fix to try. I have to drain the battery and after a little re-charge I should be able to enter the download mode. I'm trying this next.
yes thats where you made your mistake. that also makes me think download mode wont work period, but im not positive. im surprised rom manager even tried to flash anything without a recovery. thats why i dont use apps like that anymore because you wouldnt of been able to **** it up that bad on your own. so you said you tried the key combo to take you to the factory restore? if you didnt flash a recovery then i would think you could get that to work. did you look into lg's flash tool? maybe that will somehow read it. i remember seeing a post in the general forum about a way to take the phone apart and short the chip out but ive never had to actually read it so i couldnt tell you whats all involved. sorry bout your phone.

Well, I just got myself in the same boat.
The phone will show the LG Logo then the security error and shut down. When plugged in with a USB to the PC it will just reboot.
Nothing is showing in Device Manager either. I done the same in the stock recovery and I tried to Side load CM12 it failed and straight into this loop.
I got nothing now. I just done see how shorting circuits will fix the issue when it's just software. Absolute nightmare as the 12 months warranty has gone.
I tried to do a hard reset and I get the android man saying its working then it shuts down and starts the error again. I'm unable to get in the Download Mode either and I'm stuck
I don't know what to do now. The flash and Support tool will not recognize the phone.
jfletch86, I tried LG Flash Tool, but the problem is that it just says no devices found. Same problem with fix I linked, I can't do anything to my phone if my laptop doesn't find it. I'm beginnig to loose hope

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that you are in the same boat. Symptoms are the same. It seems that we have bricked our phones pretty badly. Hopefully someone comes up with fix that works. Problem is that anyone wise enough to fix this isn't stupid enough to end up this stage.
I'm hoping the same too. I just don't know why it wont allow me to do anything.
I have a nexus 4 and I've never had a problem.
I am getting nothing when plugged into my PC and its like the phone is turning on and off in the boot loop and the lg symbol.
I get the hard reset menu but the computer still doesn't recognise.
I just feel sick at the moment !!
