[S-OFF][MOD]Remove Tampered banner with flashable zip. Also zip if you want it back! - One (M8) General

I got the actual command from this thread.I've just created the flashable zip
YOU NEED S-OFF TO DO THIS
I hope scotty1223 doesn't mind
This zip just removes the tampered banner from the bootloader. I've also included a zip to revert it back just in case you want it(for some reason )
Just flash the zip from the recovery and you're done!
I was not sure if I should create a new thread or not. If any mods believe that I shouldn't just delete the thread.
************************************NOTE*********************************************
I've tested this only on International M8. If you want to make sure this is going to work on your variant then type this command in a terminal emulator or ADB Shell:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p6.img
This will create a file in your SD Card. Upload the file here and I'll check and tell you whether this MOD is going to work for your variant.
UPDATE:
RemoveV2.zip does not work. Do not use it!.
UPDATE:
RemoveV3.zip fixes the garbage byte problem. Everyone should flash this one if Remove.zip does not work!.

I think it works but if you want to make sure
in a terminal emulator or an adb shell type this:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p6.img
Now there is a file on your sdcard with the name mmcblk0p6.img
Send me the file and I'll tell you if it's going to work

Working just great
M8 UL variant, S-Off working perfectly well. Thanks mate :good:
Edit: Harman-Kardon mod installed in case you need to know. Running Maximus HD 6.0.1 under KK 4.4.3.

No matter what i do its not working on international m8 here?

Great thanks... Worked a treat!

Did you try to do this before using the adb command and failed? I had a similar problem and scotty helped me on his thread.
Try the following. Flash the revert zip first to reset it in case of errors and try the remove zip afterwards

I'm not sure if it's essential but do you have busybox installed?

The zip file did its job correctly. I've checked the file you sent me. Are you sure the "TAMPERED" banner is still visible in the bootloader? This does not remove the red text but only the TAMPERED banner. This script just changes one byte and it's already changed

Will this work on T-Mo M8?

Hey man, I know people are saying in the XT 530 thread that I posted a link to your ROM without permission, but it is not so. I posted the link to another indonesian website from where I got the file. Like I mentioned, I was searching for this rom for warranty purposes and came across this on that particular website. Funny that google and even xda never threw up your post as a search result all this time.
No harm done, I did not repost your link.

Here's a quick trick :
Have 7zip on your pc.
Copy systemUi.apk to desktop.
Extract using 7zip.
U'll have the statusbar icons in res/drawable...
Find new png images(any other phone's systemui.apk)
Now open 7zip locate to that .apk and replace all those files with new one.
Replace systemui.apk back into system/app.
Restart the device n u r done.
If u want me to do it for u pm me i'll do it when m free.

ROM problems thread

Hi everyone, I'm making this so that any problems with ROMS can be discussed here, and any associated fixes. This way we don't clutter the actual ROM threads and all the problems/fixes are in one place. :good:
I'll start it off.
I just ported over a 4.1.2 ROM but the soft keyboard FC's literally every 5 seconds. Any ideas? I tried pulling a logcat from the computer and it says "Unable to open log device '/dev/log/main': No such file or directory
Attached is a screenshot.
I'm gonna try to install a different keyboard from the playstore and see if that one works.

I had that same problem on one of my first ICS ports, just sub it out for any of the working ones on the Shift. Don't forget to switch out the lib too.
I would say the same thing as ryan, as far as the keyboard is concerned.
And as far as the logcat problem, the only time i have ever had that error was when it was a bad flash. Googling the error gives you a bunch of different reasons this error could happen. I doubt it is a kernel problem, as some sites suggests, because I'm guessing you are using one of the kernels we already have and none of the other roms have the same problem. So I would look into one of the other suggestions that pop up when googling.
Yeah, I'll look into it when I get home today. And i know it cant be a bad flash because i wiped 10 times before flashing it.
Sent from my PG06100
Well i think I found the error. I found a post on stackoverflow that led me to the etc/init.d folder...and in one of the files there I found this
Code:
rm /dev/log/main
Now why that was in there, i have no idea. Hopefully that fixes that part and then I'll just swap out the soft keyboard and Latin_ime.so to fix the AOSP keyboard and all should be good....so if all goes well, expect a new port in the dev section :good:

Really easy, replace the apk with one that you know works... For this example we'll use the 4.2 keyboard from my ROM. Delete both the apk and the libjniLatin_IME.so from system/lib. Replace with the working apk and the corresponding lib (libjniLatin_IMEgoogle.so or something close to that) and rezip. If that doesn't work see if you can get a flashable like the Xperia T keyboard to work after boot. If that doesn't work, there is probably a major problem.

Did the logcat tell you anything about the error? Most times it will mention the lib missing. Even if you see it there it may be the wrong version, and you would need to grab it from the port.

If you are you need to
1. Open the ROM with 7zip or winrar and move the boot.img to where fastboot is located and then run this command from fastboot

If your not check the md5 sum with the one provided on dev-host. And redownload/transfer if needed

There are many ways to do this but this is the easy way just extract the whole ROM to a folder and go to system folder and under it u will see built.prop file open it in notepad++ and not the notepad,, and delete the line and restart accordingly

[TOOL] Password/pin/pattern removal tool flashable in TWRP

Hi, I'm a lazy bastard, and I also rock a number of ROMs. It's such a pain to remember my previous pattern lock if I want to restore a TWRP backup from a different ROM. I found this easy method to get rid of security.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/themes/tool-remove-lockscreen-password-pin-t3692411
When you are ready to use it, just restore your ROM backup in TWRP; Flash this Unlock_PIN_PW.zip; When your phone boots up you should have no pesky security problems.
Works good?

You can also just delete all gatekeeper.* and locksettings.* files under /data/system after restoring the backup.
Under 8.X ROMs there is just a locksettings.db file, if I'm right.

Hi, I'm a lazy bastard, and I also rock a number of ROMs. It's such a pain to remember my previous pattern lock if I want to restore a TWRP backup from a different ROM. So I made a flashable zip that automates the process of deleting the five /data/system files associated with security after I restore a ROM.
Please be aware that this may not work if you have encrypted /data. If any brave soul wants to test it, let me know.
So, directions are:
Download Unlock_PIN_PW.zip from here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3gcDbDvV4MkWXRHTUswY3JSYnc
Place it in your /sdcard or otg for safe keeping (you never know when you might need it)
When you are ready to use it, just restore your ROM backup in TWRP; Flash this Unlock_PIN_PW.zip; When your phone boots up you should have no pesky security problems.
